Precision Analysis for $\boldsymbol{H_0}$ Using Upcoming Multi-band Gravitational Wave Observations

We investigate how multi-band gravitational wave (GW) observations can constrain the uncertainties in the Hubble parameter ($H_0$) using primordial black holes (PBHs) as possible sources. Our framework combines scalar-induced and merger-induced GWs from PBHs, and forecasts on a combination of two future detectors Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and the Einstein Telescope (ET), enabling a multi-band analysis. We perform a statistical forecast of the PBH parameters, $M_{\rm PBH}$ and $f_{\rm PBH}$, using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimates and Fisher matrix analysis. Imposing $\mathrm{SNR} \geq 1$, we identify the accessible PBH parameter space and propagate these uncertainties to estimate the corresponding uncertainties in $H_0$. For $\delta \theta_i/\theta_i \leq 0.1$, with $\theta_i \equiv M_{\rm PBH}(f_{\rm PBH})$, we find $\delta H_0 \lesssim 2~{\rm km\,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1}}$ in a conservative approach, improving to $\delta H_0 \lesssim \mathcal{O}(0.1)~{\rm km\,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1}}$ for $\delta \theta_i/\theta_i \leq 0.01$ for an optimistic approach of precision measurement. The results are further found to be largely insensitive to the fiducial choice of the $H_0$, with only moderate dependence on the PBH collapse efficiency. These findings demonstrate that multi-band GW observations provide an independent and complementary approach to constraining the uncertainties in $H_0$, with the potential to provide a novel, cosmic distance ladder-independent measure of the Hubble parameter.

Scalar and Spinor Quasi Normal Modes of a 2D Dilatonic Blackhole

External non-minimally coupled scalar and spinor field perturbations have been studied in a (1 + 1) dimensional dilatonic blackhole spacetime [1, 2]. Exact analytical expressions of the quasi- normal mode frequencies have been found for both the cases. In the scalar perturbations the quasi-normal mode frequencies turn out to be purely imaginary and negative. Furthermore we have found that the quasi-normal frequencies for Dirac field exhibit both real and imaginary part. The QNM frequencies decay monotonically with the overtone number under certain class of the blackhole parameters. The decay profile ensures the stability of the blackhole spacetime under these perturbations.

Decoding Horizonless Spacetime: Plasma-Induced Features in a Rotating Wormhole Shadow

We investigate the shadow properties in a recently proposed geometry of a rotating wormhole under realistic astrophysical conditions, particularly in the presence of a cold and non magnetized plasma environment surrounding the wormhole throat. Using the Hamilton Jacobi formalism, we derive the orbit equation under specific plasma density profiles, where we consider plasma as dispersive medium and disregard its influence on the background geometry. The electron density distribution is chosen to preserve a generalized Carter constant. We explore the shadow cast by this class of rotating wormhole in the presence of both homogeneous and non homogeneous plasma as seen by an asymptotic observer. The photon regions are visualized, and the influence of geometric parameters, plasma parameters, and the observer inclination angle with the rotation axis on the resulting shadow morphology is analyzed. We tried to implement constraints on the plasma and the geometrical parameters of the wormhole such as the spin parameter and the deviation (from Kerr) parameter in the back drop of recent observational bounds coming from the deviation from circularity of the shadow boundary ($\Delta C$) and deviation of the average shadow radius from Schwarzschild ($\delta$). The bound on $\Delta C$ is satisfied by the theoretically allowed range of parameters thus not found very useful to put any constraint, we could impose stringent constraints on the parameters based on the observed value of $\delta$. By comparing the optical characteristics of the image of these wormholes with those of Kerr black holes under analogous plasma conditions, we identify the features that could serve as discriminants for similar types of compact objects.

Characterizing a class of accelerating wormholes with periodic potential

The newly discovered Wormhole C--metric is a solution of Einstein's field equation coupled with a phantom scalar field which describes the accelerated wormholes. In the zero acceleration limit the solution reduces to an asymptotically flat wormhole. For certain range of parameter space this solution doesn't possess any horizon, thus making it a viable candidate of wormhole. To completely unveil this property we have studied the topological properties of this spacetime and shown that the throat is marginally connected. In the aforementioned range of parameters, the spacetime doesn't posses any photon orbit confirming the absence of shadow. We further analysed the stability of this spacetime under scalar perturbation. Under the usual boundary conditions (outgoing waves at both spatial infinities) there exists a continuous spectra. On the contrary one may achieve the quantization of the modes by exploiting a different but physically intuitive boundary condition. The lowest lying mode behaves as normal mode, and the imaginary part comes into play for the modes corresponding to first overtone number $(n=1)$ marking the onset of quasi-nomral modes for all azimuthal quantum number, $L$. We have also argued that the spacetime has a tendency to hold the excitation in it due to the external perturbation, rather than a fast de-excitation.

Shadow of higher dimensional collapsing dark star and blackhole

The shadow of a black hole or a collapsing star is of great importance as we can extract important properties of the object and of the surrounding spacetime from the shadow profile. It can also be used to distinguish different types of black holes and ultra compact objects. In this work, we have analytically calculated the shadow of a higher dimensional collapsing dark star, described by higher dimensional Vaidya metric, by choosing a slightly generalized version of Misner--Sharp mass function. We have also numerically investigated the properties of the shadows of the black holes and the collapsing stars for a slightly more general mass function. Examining the potential influence of extra spatial dimensions on the shadow, we have explored the possibility of distinguishing higher dimensions from the standard four-dimensional spacetime.

Effective General Relativistic Description of Jamming in Granular Matter

We propose here that certain observational features of granular matter in the infrared limit, exhibiting the phenomenon of {\it jamming}, arise from an underlying effective general relativistic description. The proposal stems from the assumption (which we justify on physical grounds) that grains in granular matter move freely in an {\it effective} curved Riemannian space. The termination of their trajectories at the onset of jamming is obtained from the focussing of a converging congruence of geodesics in such a space, as a solution of the Raychaudhuri equation for such congruences. This may happen irrespective of whether or not the curvature is sourced by external stresses (via an effective Einstein equation), although the properties of the resultant jammed state solution do differ in the two cases. A definite prediction of this geometrical approach is the negative role played by those trajectories which twist about each other, in reaching the jammed state. The local symmetries of granular interaction, translational and rotational invariance (corresponding to `force balance' and `torque balance' in standard force-based approaches to jamming) are inherent in the effective general relativity framework. A recently-proposed effective elasticity model of the jammed state, based on a tensorial variant of standard electrostatics (Vector Charge Theory), is seen to be entirely subsumed within the linearized version of the effective general relativistic description.

Probing the post-Minkowskian approximation using recursive addition of self-interactions

We address the problem of deriving the post-Minkowskian approximation, widely used in current gravitational wave literature by investigating a possible deduction out of the recursive N\"other coupling approach, from the Pauli-Fierz spin-2 theory in flat spacetime. We find that this approach yields the post-Minkowskian approximation correctly to the first three orders, without invoking any weak-field limit of general relativity. This connection thus establishes that the post-Minkowskian approximation has a connotation independent of a weak-field expansion of general relativity, which is the manner usually presented in the literature. As a consequence, a link manifests between the recursive N\"other coupling approach to deriving general relativity from a linear spin-2 theory in flat spacetime and theoretical analyses of recent detection of gravitational wave events.

Kinematics of Two-particle Scattering in Black Hole Backgrounds

We show that particle scattering in general curved backgrounds entails {\it six} independent, kinematical Mandelstam-like invariants, instead of the two in flat spacetime. Spacetime isometries are shown to lead to constraints between these parameters, so that for standard black holes like Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstr\"om, or Kerr spacetimes, the number of {\it independent} parameters may be less than six. We compute the values of these independent parameters very close to the event horizon of the black holes. We demonstrate the existence of kinematical domains in the parameter space of particle trajectories for which some of the independent invariants may become unbounded above, as the point of collision approaches the event horizon. For particle scattering, this would imply the possibility of scattering with very large center-of-mass energy squared and/or very large momentum-transferred squared, making this astrophysically a laboratory for physics beyond the standard model.

Gravitational Waves with Orbital Angular Momentum

Compact orbiting binaries like the black hole binary system observed in GW150914 carry large amount of orbital angular momentum. The post-ringdown compact object formed after merger of such a binary configuration has only spin angular momentum, and this results in a large orbital angular momentum excess. One significant possibility is that the gravitational waves generated by the system carry away this excess orbital angular momentum. An estimate of this excess is made. Arguing that plane gravitational waves cannot possibly carry any orbital angular momentum, a case is made in this paper for gravitational wave beams carrying orbital angular momentum, akin to optical beams. Restricting to certain specific beam-configurations, we predict that such beams may produce a new type of strain, in addition to the longitudinal strains measured at aLIGO for GW150914 and GW170817. Current constraints on post-ringdown spins, derived within the planewave approximation of gravitational waves, therefore stand to improve. The minimal modification that might be needed on a laser-interferometer detector (like aLIGO or VIRGO) to detect such additional strains is also briefly discussed.

Bacteria Around an Acoustic Black Hole: Trapping and Frame-Dragging

Motivated by the need to conceive freely-precessing gyroscopes for detecting acoustic frame-dragging predicted recently in rotating acoustic analogue black holes, we report an incipient investigation on the hydrodynamics of nematic active fluids. With a specific assumption on barotropicity of a nematic fluid, we discern acoustic analogue black hole spacetimes experienced by linear perturbations of the velocity potential. For vanishingly small diffusivity of the active particles, linear perturbations of the active particle concentration reveal a profile with an enhancement close to the acoustic horizon, hinting towards the possibility of partial trapping of active matter by the acoustic black hole. We further show that, as anticipated, the dynamical nature of the orientation (`polarization') of individual particles indeed opens up the possibility of their use as freely-precessing gyroscopes. In addition, inclusion of diffusivity of active particles in the inviscid solvent is shown to lead to a small effective viscosity. Depending on the sign of the diffusion coefficient, this can either yield superfluid-like behaviour, or enhance the net viscosity, of the nematic system. In either situation, acoustic superradiance, theoretically analyzed and experimentally observed recently for mildly viscous standard fluids, is thus predicted to occur for nematic fluids.

Magnetogenesis in Matter - Ekpyrotic Bouncing Cosmology

In the recent past there have been many attempts to associate the generation of primordial magnetic seed fields with the inflationary era, but with limited success. We thus take a different approach by using a model for nonsingular bouncing cosmology. A coupling of the electromagnetic Lagrangian $F_{\mu\nu}F^{\mu\nu}$ with a non background scalar field has been considered for the breaking of conformal invariance. We have shown that non singular bouncing cosmology supports magnetogenesis evading the long standing back reaction and strong coupling problems which have plagued inflationary magnetogenesis. In this model, we have achieved a scale invariant power spectrum for the parameter range compatible with observed CMB anisotropies. The desired strength of the magnetic field has also been obtained that goes in accordance with present observations. It is also important to note that no BKL instability arises within this parameter range. The energy scales for different stages of evolution of the bouncing model are so chosen that they solve the problems of Standard Big Bang cosmology as well.

Inflationary field excursion in broad classes of scalar field models

In single field slow roll inflation models the height and slope of the potential are to satisfy certain conditions, to match with observations. This in turn translates into bounds on the number of e-foldings and the excursion of the scalar field during inflation. In this work we consider broad classes of inflationary models to study how much the field excursion starting from horizon exit to the end of inflation, $\Delta \phi $, can vary for the set of inflationary parameters given by Planck. We also derive an upper bound on the number of e-foldings between the horizon exit of a cosmologically interesting mode and the end of inflation. We comment on the possibility of having super-Planckian and sub-Planckian field excursions within the framework of single field slow roll inflation.

Scalar Kaluza-Klein modes in a multiply warped braneworld

The Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of a massive scalar field on a 3-brane embedded in six dimensional multiply warped spacetime are determined. Due to the presence of warping along both the extra dimensions the KK mass spectrum splits into two closely spaced branches which is a distinct feature of this model compared to the five dimensional Randall-Sundrum model. This new cluster of the KK mode spectrum is expected to have interesting phenomenological implications for the upcoming collider experiments. Such a scenario may also be extended for even larger number of orbifolded extra dimensions.

A critical analysis of thermodynamic properties of braneworld black holes in anti-de Sitter spacetime

Thermodynamic properties of Schwarzschild-Anti de-Sitter (Sch-AdS) and Reissner-Nordström-Anti de-Sitter (RN-AdS) blackholes in 3+1 dimensional spacetime are studied critically with special reference to the warped braneworld black holes with non-vanishing cosmological constant on the brane. Explicit dependence of the thermodynamic variables on the parameters of the braneworld model such as the induced three brane cosmological constant as well as the bulk cosmological constant have been determined. Hawking-Page phase transition has been discussed for both Sch-AdS and RN-AdS black holes. At the phase transition point it is shown that the parameters mass, charge and cosmological constant get correlated by an inequality relation which originates from the background warped geometry model.

Modulus stabilization of generalized Randall Sundrum model with bulk scalar field

We study the stabilization of inter-brane spacing modulus of generalized warped brane models with a nonzero brane cosmological constant. Employing Goldberger-Wise stabilization prescription of brane world models with a bulk scalar field, we show that the stabilized value of the modulus generally depends on the value of the brane cosmological constant. Our result further reveals that the stabilized modulus value corresponding to a vanishingly small cosmological constant can only resolve the gauge hierarchy problem simultaneously. This in turn vindicates the original Randall-Sundrum model where the 3-brane cosmological constant was chosen to be zero.

Localization of fields on brane

Warped braneworld scenario provides an alternative to the usual Kaluza-Klein compactification of extra dimensions through the so-called localization of fields. Randall-Sundrum type models do not directly prove, rather, assume that all standard model fields are localized to the TeV brane. I will provide the mechanism for addressing the problem and discuss the issue of localization of fields on the brane for various types of braneworld models available in the literature.

Chiral fermions in a spacetime with multiple warping

In a six dimensional brane world model with multiple $S_1/Z_2$ warping, two of the 4-branes at the boundaries have coordinate dependent brane tensions in order to implement the orbifolded boundary conditions consistently. Such brane tension is shown to be equivalent to a scalar field distribution on the brane [1]. We show that in such a scenario a masslesss left chiral fermion on the 4-brane localizes naturally on the standard model 3-brane located at one edge of the compact manifold while the massless right chiral fermion wave function as well as the wave functions for the massive fermion modes peak away from this brane. This offers a mechanism of obtaining massless chiral fermion with only one of its chiral component present in our brane.

Fermion localization in generalised Randall Sundrum model

A generalized two-brane Randall-Sundrum warped braneworld model admits of solutions of the warp factor for both positive or negative cosmological constant on the visible 3-brane which can resolve the naturalness problem in connection with the fine tuning of Higgs mass in the standard model of elementary particles. To explore the location of the standard model fermions in such a generalized warped model, we, in this work, determine the dependence of the localization profile of a bulk fermion on the brane cosmological constant brane tension and the bulk fermion mass. Our results reveal that for a positive and small value of the induced cosmological constant a bulk fermion is localized close to the brane. On the other hand for a visible brane with negative cosmological constant and positive tension, the fermions are localized inside the bulk leading to phenomenologically interesting possibilities.
