Asymptotic stability of Benjamin--Ono multisolitons in $L^2(\mathbb R)$

We prove the following dichotomy result for $L^2(\mathbb R)$ solutions to the Benjamin--Ono equation: On windows traveling at any speed, the solution either converges to zero or to a soliton dictated by the spectral properties of the Lax operator associated to the initial data. As an application of this result, we prove asymptotic stability of Benjamin--Ono multisolitons in $L^2(\mathbb R)$. Specifically, we show that solutions to the Benjamin--Ono equation emanating from small $L^2(\mathbb R)$ perturbations of multisolitons evolve towards a series of separating one-solitons when viewed in windows traveling with these solitons.

Orbital stability of Benjamin--Ono multisolitons

We show that multisoliton solutions to the Benjamin--Ono equation are uniformly orbitally stable in $H^s(\mathbb{R})$ for every $-\tfrac12<s\leq \frac12$. This improves the regularity required for stability up to the sharp well-posedness threshold; previous work (even on single solitons) had required $s\geq \frac12$. One key ingredient in our argument is a new variational characterization of multisolitons. A second ingredient is the extension to low-regularity slowly-decaying solutions of the Wu identity on eigenfunctions of the Lax operator. This extension also allows us to clarify the spectral type of the Lax operator for such potentials by precluding embedded eigenvalues.

Global well-posedness for intermediate NLS with nonvanishing conditions at infinity

The intermediate nonlinear Schrödinger equation (INLS) describes the dynamics of the envelope of weakly nonlinear internal waves in a stratified fluid of finite depth. While the INLS equation is known to admit dark soliton solutions, these solutions possess nonvanishing boundary conditions at spatial infinity and therefore fall outside the scope of existing well-posedness frameworks. This paper establishes the local and global well-posedness of a generalized INLS equation in Zhidkov-type spaces tailored to these nonvanishing boundary conditions. Furthermore, we rigorously justify the deep-water limit, proving that solutions of the generalized INLS converge to those of the generalized Calogero-Moser (CM) derivative NLS equation in Zhidkov-type spaces. Our well-posedness theory relies on the modified energy method combined with frequency envelopes, marking the first application of these techniques to Zhidkov-type spaces.

Zero dispersion limit of the Calogero-Moser derivative NLS equation

We study the zero-dispersion limit of the Calogero-Moser derivative NLS equation $$i\partial_tu+\partial_x^2 u \pm\,2DΠ(|u|^2)u=0, \qquad x\in\mathbb{R},$$ starting from an initial data $u_0\in L^2_+(\mathbb{R})\cap L^\infty (\mathbb{R}),$ where $D=-i\partial_x,$ and $Π$ is the Szegő projector defined as $\widehat{Πu}(ξ)=1_{[0,+\infty)}(ξ)\widehat{u}(ξ).$ We characterize the zero-dispersion limit solution by an explicit formula. Moreover, we identify it, in terms of the branches of the multivalued solution of the inviscid Burgers-Hopf equation. Finally, we infer that it satisfies a maximum principle.

On the global well-posedness of the Calogero-Sutherland derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We consider the Calogero-Sutherland derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the focusing (with sign $+$) and defocusing case (with sign $-$) $$ i\partial_tu+\partial_x^2u\,\pm\,\frac2i\,\partial_xΠ(|u|^2)u=0\,,\qquad (t,x)\in\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}, $$ where $Π$ is the Szegő projector $Π\left(\sum_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}\widehat{u}(n)\mathrm{e}^{inx}\right)=\sum_{n\geq 0 }\widehat{u}(n)\mathrm{e}^{inx}$. Thanks to a Lax pair formulation, we derive the explicit solution to this equation. Furthermore, we prove the global well-posedness for this $L^2$-critical equation in all the Hardy Sobolev spaces $H^s_+(\mathbb{T}),$ $s\geq0\,,$ with small $L^2$-initial data in the focusing case, and for arbitrarily $L^2$-data in the defocusing case. In addition, we establish the relative compactness of the trajectories in all $H^s_+(\mathbb{T}),$ $s\geq0\,.$

Traveling waves & finite gap potentials for the Calogero-Sutherland Derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We consider the Calogero-Sutherland derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation \begin{equation}\tag{CS} i\partial_tu+\partial_x^2u\,\pm\,\frac{2}{i}\,\partial_xΠ(|u|^2)u=0\,,\qquad x\in\mathbb{T}\,, \end{equation} where $Π$ is the Szegő projector $$Π\Big(\sum_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}\widehat{u}(n)\mathrm{e}^{inx}\Big)=\sum_{n\geq 0 }\widehat{u}(n)\mathrm{e}^{inx}\,.$$ First, we characterize the traveling wave $u_0(x-ct)$ solutions to the defocusing equation (CS$^-$), and prove for the focusing equation (CS$^+$), that all the traveling waves must be either the constant functions or plane waves or rational functions. A noteworthy observation is that the (CS)-equation is one of the fewest nonlinear PDE enjoying nontrivial traveling waves with arbitrary small and large $L^2$-norms. Second, we study the finite gap potentials, and show that they are also rational functions, containing the traveling waves, and they can be grouped into sets that remain invariant under the system's evolution.
