Description of the recently observed hypernucleus $^{15}{\!\!\!_{Ξ^-}}$C within a quark-meson coupling model

We investigate within a quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, the structure of the bound $Ξ^-$ hypernucleus $^{15}{\!\!\!_{Ξ^-}}$C ($^{14}$N + $Ξ^-$), which has been observed in a recent analysis of the KEK-E373 experiment. In the QMC model, light quarks in nonoverlapping nucleon and $Ξ^-$ bags interact self-consistently with isoscalar-scalar ($σ$), isoscalar-vector ($ω$), and isovector-vector ($ρ$) mesons in the mean field approximation. The parameters of the model (quark-meson coupling constants and masses) are mostly fixed from the nuclear matter saturation properties. The QMC model closely reproduces the separation energies of the two $Ξ^-$ hyperon states in $^{15}{\!\!\!_{Ξ^-}}$C reported in the KEK-E373 analysis, and identifies their quantum numbers. We also make predictions for the cross sections for the production of the $^{15}{\!\!\!_{Ξ^-}}$C hypernuclear specta in the ($K^-, K^+$) reaction on a $^{15}$O target within a covariant effective Lagrangian model using the $Ξ^-$ bound state spinors obtained within the same QMC model.

Charm production in interactions of antiproton with proton and nuclei at ${\bar P}ANDA$ energies

We study the production of charmed baryons in the antiproton-proton and antiproton-nucleus interactions within a fully covariant model that is based on an effective Lagrangian approach. The baryon production proceeds via the $t$-channel $D^0$ and $D^{*0}$ meson-exchange diagrams. We have also explored the production of the charm-baryon hypernucleus $^{16}_{Λ_c^+}$O in the antiproton - $^{16}$O collisions. For antiproton beam momenta of interest to the ${\bar P}ANDA$ experiment, the 0$^\circ$ differential cross sections for the formation of $^{16}_{Λ_c^+}$O hypernuclear states with simple particle-hole configurations, have magnitudes in the range of a few $μ$b/sr.

Charmed-baryon production in antiproton-proton collisions within an effective Lagrangian model

We study the productions of charmed baryons ${\bar Λ}_c^- Λ_c^+$, ${\bar Λ}_c^- Σ_c^+$, and ${\bar Σ}^- Σ_c^+$ in the antiproton-proton collisions within an effective Lagrangian model that has only the baryon-meson degrees of freedom and involves the physical hadron masses. The baryon production proceeds via the $t$-channel exchanges of $D^0$ and $D^{*0}$ mesons in the initial collision of the antiproton with the target proton. The distortion effects in the initial and final states are accounted for by using an eikonal approximation-based procedure. We find that the reaction amplitudes of all the production channels are dominated by the $D^{*0}$ meson-exchange diagrams. We discuss the relative roles of tensor and vector components of the $D^{*0}$ coupling in the $D^{*0}$ meson-exchange component of the total production cross sections. The magnitudes of the cross sections are predicted for each final state for the range of beam momenta of relevance to the ${\bar P}ANDA$ experiment.

Determination of the $^{36}$Mg($n,γ$)$^{37}$Mg reaction rate from Coulomb dissociation of $^{37}$Mg

We use the Coulomb dissociation (CD) method to calculate the rate of the $^{36}$Mg(${n,γ}$)$^{37}$Mg radiative capture reaction. The CD cross sections of the $^{37}$Mg nucleus on a $^{208}$Pb target at the beam energy of 244 MeV/nucleon, for which new experimental data have recently become available, were calculated within the framework of a finite range distorted wave Born approximation theory that is extended to include the projectile deformation effects. Invoking the principle of detailed balance, these cross sections are used to determine the excitation function and subsequently the rate of the $^{36}$Mg($n,γ$)$^{37}$Mg reaction. We compare these rates to those of the $^{36}$Mg($α,n$)$^{39}$Si reaction calculated within a Hauser-Feshbach model. We find that for $T_9$ as large as up to 1.0 (in units of 10$^9$ K) the $^{36}$Mg($n,γ$)$^{37}$Mg reaction is much faster than the $^{36}$Mg($α,n$)$^{39}$Si one. The inclusion of the effects of $^{37}$Mg projectile deformation in the breakup calculations, enhances the ($n,γ$) reaction rate even further. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the $(n,γ)$ $β$-decay $r$-process flow will be broken at the $^{36}$Mg isotope by the $α$-process.

Production of $Λ_c^+$ hypernuclei in antiproton - nucleus collisions

We investigate the production of charm-baryon hypernucleus $^{16}_{Λ_c^+}$O in the antiproton - $^{16}$O collisions within a fully covariant model that is based on an effective Lagrangian approach. The explicit ${\bar Λ}_c^ - Λ_c^+$ production vertex is described by the $t$-channel $D^0$ and $D^{*0}$ meson-exchanges in the initial collision of the incident antiproton with one of the protons of the target nucleus. The $Λ_c^+$ bound state spinors as well as the self-energies of the exchanged mesons employed in our calculations are derived from the quark-meson coupling model. The parameters of various vertices are taken to be the same as those used in our previous study of the elementary ${\bar p} + p \to {\bar Λ}_c^- + Λ_c^+$ reaction. We find that for antiproton beam momenta of interest to the ${\bar P}ANDA$ experiment, the 0$^\circ$ differential cross sections for the formation of $^{16}_{Λ_c^+}$O hypernuclear states with simple particle-hole configurations, have magnitudes in the range of a few $μ$b/sr.

${\bar D}D$ meson pair production in antiproton-nucleus collisions

We study the $\bar D D$ (${\bar D}^0 D^0$ and $D^-D^+$) charm meson pair production in antiproton (${\bar p}$) induced reactions on nuclei at beam energies ranging from threshold to several GeV. Our model is based on an effective Lagrangian approach that has only the baryon-meson degrees of freedom and involves the physical hadron masses. The reaction proceeds via the $t$-channel exchanges of $Λ_c^+$, $Σ_c^+$, and $Σ_c^{++}$ baryons in the initial collision of the antiproton with one of the protons of the target nucleus. The medium effects on the exchanged baryons are included by incorporating in the corresponding propagators, the effective charm baryon masses calculated within a quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. The wave functions of the bound proton have been determined within the QMC model as well as in a phenomenological model where they are obtained by solving the Dirac equation with appropriate scalar and vector potentials. The initial- and final-state distortion effects have been approximated by using an eikonal approximation-based procedure. Detailed numerical results are presented for total and double differential cross sections for the ${\bar D}^0 D^0$ and $D^-D^+$ production reactions on $^{16}$O and $^{90}$Zr targets. It is noticed that at ${\bar p}$ beam momenta of interest to the ${\bar P}ANDA$ experiment, medium effects lead to noticeable enhancements in the charm meson production cross sections.

${\bar p}p$ annihilation into ${\bar D}D$ meson pair within an effective Lagrangian model

We study the charmed meson pair (${\bar D}^0 D^0$ and $D^- D^+$) production in ${\bar p}p$ annihilation within an effective Lagrangian model that has only the baryon-meson degrees of freedom and involves the physical hadron masses. The reaction amplitudes include terms corresponding to the t-channel $Λ_c^+$, $Σ_c^+$ and $Σ_c^{++}$ baryon exchanges and the s-channel excitation, propagation and decay of the $Ψ$(3770) resonance into the charmed mesons. The initial- and final-state distortion effects have been accounted for by using a simple eikonal approximation-based procedure in the same way as was done in our previous study of the ${\bar p}p \to {\bar Λ}_c^-Λ_c^+$ reaction within a similar model. The ${\bar D}^0 D^0$ production reaction is dominated by the $Λ_c^+$ baryon exchange process, and the corresponding total cross sections are predicted to be in the range of 0.18 - 0.7 $μ$b for antiproton beam momenta varying between threshold and 20 $GeV/c$. The $Ψ$(3770) resonance contributions have a large influence on the differential cross sections of the $D^- D^+$ production reaction.

Projectile deformation effects in the breakup of $^{37}$Mg

We study the breakup of $^{37}$Mg on Pb at 244MeV/u with the recently developed extended theory of Coulomb breakup within the post-form finite range distorted wave Born approximation that includes deformation of the projectile. Comparing our calculated cross section with the available Coulomb breakup data we determine the possible ground state configuration of $^{37}$Mg.

Coulomb breakup of $^{37}$Mg and its ground state structure

We calculate Coulomb breakup of the neutron rich nucleus $^{37}$Mg on a Pb target at the beam energy of 244 MeV/nucleon within the framework of a finite range distorted wave Born approximation theory that is extended to include the effects of projectile deformation. In this theory, the breakup amplitude involves the full wave function of the projectile ground state. Calculations have been carried out for the total one-neutron removal cross section $(σ_{-1n})$, the neutron-core relative energy spectrum, the parallel momentum distribution of the core fragment, the valence neutron angular, and energy-angular distributions. The calculated $σ_{-1n}$ has been compared with the recently measured data to put constraints on the spin parity, and the one-neutron separation energy ($S_n$) of the $^{37}$Mg ground state ($^{37}$Mg$_{gs}$). The dependence of $σ_{-1n}$ on the deformation of this state has also been investigated. While a spin parity assignment of $7/2^-$ for the $^{37}$Mg$_{gs}$ is ruled out by our study, neither of the $3/2^-$ and $1/2^+$ assignments can be clearly excluded. Using the spectroscopic factor of one for both the $3/2^-$ and $1/2^+$ configurations and ignoring the projectile deformation effects, the $S_n$ values of $0.35 \pm 0.06$ MeV and $0.50 \pm 0.07$ MeV, respectively, are extracted for the two configurations. However, the extracted $S_n$ is strongly dependent on the spectroscopic factor and the deformation effects of the respective configuration. The narrow parallel momentum distribution of the core fragment and the strong forward peaking of the valence neutron angular distribution suggest a one-neutron halo configuration in either of the $2p_{3/2}$ and $2s_{1/2}$ configurations of the $^{37}$Mg ground state.

Reaction ${\bar p}p \to {\bar Λ}_c^-Λ_c^+$ within an effective Lagrangian model

We study the charmed baryon production reaction ${\bar p} p \to {\bar Λ}_c^- Λ_c^+$ using the $t$-channel $D^0$ and $D^{*0}$ meson exchange diagrams within an effective Lagrangian model involving the physical hadron masses and the coupling constants determined from SU(4) flavor symmetry. The initial and final state distortion effects are accounted for by using a simple eikonal approximation based procedure. The vertex parameters of our model have been checked by employing them to calculate the cross sections for the ${\bar p} p \to {\bar Λ} Λ$ reaction within a similar model. We predict the ${\bar Λ}_c^- Λ_c^+$ production cross sections in the range of 1-30 $μb$ for antiproton beam momenta varying between threshold to 20 GeV/c. The respective roles of $D^0$ and $D^{*0}$ meson exchanges and also those of the vector and tensor components of the $D^{*0}$ coupling have been investigated

$Ξ^-$ hyperon and hypernuclear production in the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction on nucleon and nuclei in a field theoretical model

We investigate the production of a cascade hyperon ($Ξ$) and bound $Ξ^-$ hypernuclei in the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction on proton and nuclear targets, respectively, within a covariant effective Lagrangian model. The $K^+Ξ^-$ production vertex is described by excitation, propagation and decay of $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonance states in the initial collision of a $K^-$ meson with a free or bound proton in the incident channel. The parameters of the resonance vertices are taken from previous studies and SU(3) symmetry considerations. The model is able to provide a good description of the available data on total and differential cross sections for the $p(K^-, K^+)Ξ^-$ reaction. The same mechanism was used to describe the hypernuclear production reactions $^{12}$C$(K^-,K^+)^{12}{/!/!/!_{/Xi^-}}$Be and $^{28}$Si$(K^-,K^+)^{28}{/!/!/!_{Ξ^-}}$Mg, where $Ξ$ bound state spinors calculated within a phenomenological model have been employed. Both the elementary and hypernuclear production cross sections are dominated by the contributions from the $Λ$(1520) intermediate resonant state. The beam momentum dependence of the $0^\circ$ differential cross sections for the formation of the $Ξ$ hypernuclei is found to be remarkably different from what has been observed previously in the impulse approximation model calculations

Production of the H dibaryon via the (K^-,K^+) reaction on a $^{12}$C target

We study the production of the stable six-quark $H$ dibaryon via the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction on a $^{12}$C target within a covariant effective Lagrangian model. The calculations are performed within a factorization approximation, in which the full production amplitude is written as a product of the amplitudes for the $K^- + p \to K^+ + Ξ^-$ and $Ξ^- + p \to H$ processes. The $K^+Ξ^-$ production vertex is described by excitation, propagation and decay of $Λ$ and $Σ$ resonance states in the initial collision of a $K^-$ meson with a target proton in the incident channel. The parameters of the resonance vertices are taken to be the same as those determined previously by describing the available data on total and differential cross sections for the $p(K^-, K^+)Ξ^-$ reaction within a similar model. The $Ξ^- + p \to H$ fusion process is treated within a quark model where the $H$ dibaryon is considered as a stable particle. For the $K^+$ meson angle fixed at 0$^o$, the $H$ production cross-section is found to be about 2.9 $μb/sr$ for $H$ mass just below the $ΛΛ$ threshold at a $K^-$ beam momentum of 1.67 GeV/c. This is an order of magnitude larger than the value for this quantity reported earlier in calculations performed on a $^3$He target using a different model for the cascade hyperon production. We have also calculated the beam momentum dependence of the $H$ production cross section and the energy spectrum of the emitted $K^+$ meson.

Production of strangeness -1 and -2 hypernuclei within a field theoretic model

We present an overview of a fully covariant formulation for describing the production of strangeness -1 and -2 hypernuclei using probes of different kinds. This theory is based on an effective Lagrangian picture and it focuses on production amplitudes that are described via creation, propagation and decay into relevant channel of intermediate baryonic resonance states in the initial collision of the projectile with one of the target nucleons. The bound state nucleon and hyperon wave functions are obtained by solving the Dirac equation with appropriate scalar and vector potentials. Specific examples are discussed for reactions which are of interest to current and future experiments on the hypernuclear production.

Structure and Coulomb dissociation of 23O within the quark-meson coupling model

We study the ground-state structure of nuclei in the vicinity of the one-neutron dripline within the latest version of the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model with a particular emphasis on 23O. For this nucleus the model predicts a [22O(0+) + n (2s_{1/2})] configuration for its ground state, with a one neutron separation energy in close agreement with the corresponding experimental value. The wave function describing the valence neutron-core relative motion was then used to calculate the Coulomb dissociation of 23O on a lead target at a beam energy of 422 MeV/nucleon. The experimental neutron-core relative energy spectrum and the total one-neutron removal cross sections are well described by the calculations. The widths of the longitudinal momentum distributions of the 22O fragment are found to be broad, which do not support the formation of a neutron halo in this nucleus.

Production of $Ξ^-$-hypernuclei via the ($K^-,K^+$) reaction in a quark-meson coupling model

We study the production of $Ξ^-$-hypernuclei, $^{12}_{Ξ^{-}}$Be and $^{28}_{Ξ^{-}}$Mg, via the ($K^-,K^+$) reaction within a covariant effective Lagrangian model, employing the bound $Ξ^-$ and proton spinors calculated by the latest quark-meson coupling model. The present treatment yields the $0^\circ$ differential cross sections for the formation of simple s-state $Ξ^-$ particle-hole states peak at a beam momentum around 1.0 GeV/c with a value in excess of 1 $μ$b.

Production of cascade hypernuclei via the (K-,K+) reaction within a quark-meson coupling model

We study the production of bound cascade hypernuclei via the (K-,K+) reaction on 12C and 28Si targets within a covariant effective Lagrangian model, employing the cascade bound state spinors derived from the latest quark-meson coupling model as well as Dirac single particle wave functions. The K+-cascade production vertex is described by excitation, propagation and decay of Lambda and Sigma resonance states in the initial collision of a K- meson with a target proton in the incident channel. The parameters of the resonance vertices are fixed by describing the available data on total and differential cross sections for the cascade production in elementary (K-,K+) reaction. We find that both the elementary and hypernuclear production cross sections are dominated by the contributions from the Lambda(1520) intermediate resonant state. The 0 degree differential cross sections for the formation of simple s-state cascade particle-hole states peak at a beam momentum around 1.0 GeV/c, with a value in excess of 1 mub.

Production of a cascade hyperon in the K^- - proton interaction

We investigate the production of a cascade hyperon (Xi) through the K^- + p --> K^+ (K^0) + Xi^- (Xi^0) reactions, within an effective Lagrangian model where these reactions proceed via excitations of Lambda and Sigma resonance intermediate states in s- and u-channels. The coupling constants at the various vertices are taken from previous studies and SU(3) symmetry considerations. The calculated total cross sections of these reactions, which are in good agreement with the available data, are dominated by the contributions from the Lambda(1520) intermediate resonant state. However, the K^+ meson angular distributions show selectivity to other resonant states in different angular regions and interference among these states leads to their strong backward peaking.

Dilepton production in proton-proton and quasifree proton-neutron reactions at 1.25 GeV

We investigate the pp --> pp e+e- and quasifree pn --> pn e+e- reactions within an effective Lagrangian model at the laboratory kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV for which experimental data have recently been reported by the HADES Collaboration. The model uses a meson-exchange approximation to describe the initial nucleon-nucleon (NN) scattering. Contributions to the reaction amplitudes are included from the NN bremsstrahlung as well as from the excitation, propagation and radiative decay of the Delta(1230) isobar state. It is found that the HADES data on the e+e- invariant mass distribution in the pp --> pp e+e- reaction are reproduced excellently by our model where the Delta isobar term dominates the spectrum. However, the quasifree pn --> pn e+e- cross sections are underpredicted in the invariant mass region of 0.40 - 0.55 GeV/c^2 even after including contributions of the eta Dalitz decay and the subthreshold production and decay of the rho^0 meson via the baryonic resonance N*(1520). In the case of the quasifree pn --> pn e+e- reaction, a strong sensitivity to the pion electromagnetic form factor is observed which helps to bring the calculated cross sections closer to the data in the higher dilepton mass region.
