Understanding the enhanced $\phi \eta^{\prime}$ decay mode of the $\phi(2170)$ through strange-meson loops

The nature of the strangeonium-like $\phi(2170)$ remains controversial. Recent measurements of $e^+e^-\to\phi\eta^{(\prime)}$ reveal a striking puzzle: a broad $\phi(2170)$-like structure appears in the $\phi\eta^\prime$ channel but not in $\phi\eta$, despite the strong phase-space suppression of $\phi\eta^\prime$. We investigate this unexpectedly large $\phi\eta^\prime$ decay fraction within the excited-strangeonium assignment. A combined analysis of the $e^+e^-\to\phi\eta$ and $e^+e^-\to\phi\eta^\prime$ cross sections is performed by including short-distance amplitudes from vacuum quark-pair creation and long-distance transitions mediated by strange-meson loops. The short-distance mechanism predicts too small a $\phi\eta^\prime/\phi\eta$ strength ratio to explain the data. In contrast, strange-meson loops naturally enhance this ratio because the SU(3)-flavor factor at the $K^{(*)}K^{(*)}\eta^{(\prime)}$ vertex suppresses the transition to $\phi\eta$ relative to $\phi\eta^\prime$. The resulting overall description of both cross sections supports an important role for long-distance dynamics in hidden-strangeness decays of excited vector strangeonia. More intriguingly, although the excited strangeonium contributions have been included, the current high-precision $\phi\eta$ data still favor the existence of an extra narrow vector state near $2.15~\mathrm{GeV}$ with a width of about $25~\mathrm{MeV}$. If confirmed, it would be a promising exotic-hadron candidate in the light-vector sector. Furthermore, we test $\Gamma(Y\to\phi\eta)/\Gamma(Y\to\phi\eta^\prime)=0.25$, $1$, and $4$ as fit inputs and obtain similarly good descriptions of the cross sections in all three cases. The present data therefore do not allow this ratio to discriminate among different internal configurations of the narrow state.

Potential of the reaction $e^+e^-\to p\bar{p}\pi^0$ for constructing higher $\rho$-meson spectroscopy above 2.4 GeV

The spectrum of light unflavored vector mesons above 2.4 GeV has not yet been firmly established experimentally. In this work, we demonstrate that the process $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}\pi$ serves as a particularly promising channel as a probe for higher isovector $\rho$ excitations. In contrast to typical electron-positron annihilation processes into purely light-meson final states, the reaction $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}\pi$ benefits from a relatively low continuum background, on the order of $(50\sim100)~\text{pb}$ around 2.4 GeV, which enhances the visibility of even modest resonance contributions. In addition, the comparatively high production threshold further suppresses potential contamination from lower $\rho$-meson excitations. Our analysis based on effective Lagrangian approach indicates that the observed lineshape of the $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}\pi$ cross section measured by BESIII can be naturally interpreted by including the $\rho(5S)$ and $\rho(6S)$ contributions, namely the fourth and fifth radial excitations of $\rho(770)$. In particular, the pronounced rise of the cross section near 2.4 GeV provides strong evidence for the contribution of $\rho(5S)$ signal. Their branching ratios to the $p\bar{p}\pi$ final state are found to be below 4\%, which do not contradict with usual expectations. In addition, we evaluate pion-induced production of these two $\rho$-meson states as a complementary probe, offering useful guidance for the relevant experiments such as COMPASS.

Decoding the role of $\rho$ mesonic states for elucidating the $e^+e^-\to a_2(1320)\pi$ data and other reactions

Recently, the BESIII Collaboration observed a $\rho$-like structure $Y(2044)$ in $e^+e^-\to a_2(1320)\pi$, suggesting that $Y(2044)$ may be a candidate of vector meson $\rho(2D)$ by comparing resonance parameters. However, the theoretical prediction for the combined branching ratio $\Gamma_{e^+e^-}\mathcal{B}_{a_2(1320)\pi}$ for the pure $\rho(2D)$ state is about two orders of magnitude smaller than the experimental value. To resolve this discrepancy and decipher the nature of $Y(2044)$, this work propose an $S$-$D$ mixing scheme to reanalyze the cross section of $e^+e^-\to a_2(1320)\pi$, and find that the aforementioned branching ratio discrepancy can be resolved. Our results show that the $Y(2044)$ structure can be reproduced by introducing four theoretically predicted $S$-$D$ mixing $\rho$ meson states $\rho_{3S-2D}^{\prime}$, $\rho_{3S-2D}^{\prime\prime}$, $\rho_{4S-3D}^{\prime}$, and $\rho_{4S-3D}^{\prime\prime}$ as intermediate resonances, in which dominant contribution arises from $\rho_{3S-2D}^{\prime\prime}$ and their inference effect is also significant. Furthermore, we reanalyzed five additional isospin vector processes $e^+e^-\to \omega\pi^0$, $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$, $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-$, $e^+e^-\to \rho \eta$, and $e^+e^-\to \eta^{\prime} \pi^+\pi^-$ based on the same $S$-$D$ mixing framework, and simultaneously reproduced their experimental cross section data. This work provides a unified framework to elucidate all observed $\rho$-like structures near 2 GeV in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation processes, and suggests that the $S$-$D$ mixing effect may be crucial for understanding the mass spectrum and decay behaviors of the higher $\rho$ meson states.

Role of $4S$-$3D$ mixing in explaining the $\omega$-like $Y(2119)$ observed in $e^+e^-\to\rho\pi$ and $\rho(1450)\pi$

The BESIII Collaboration has recently reported a new resonance structure in the cross-section analyses of the $e^+e^- \to \rho\pi$ and $e^+e^- \to \rho(1450)\pi$ processes, displaying characteristics akin to an $\omega$-meson. However, its measured mass, $M = 2119 \pm 11 \pm 15 \, \text{MeV}$, significantly deviates from the predictions of the unquenched relativized potential model for conventional $\omega$ vector meson spectroscopy. To address this discrepancy, we propose a $4S$-$3D$ mixing scheme and investigate the corresponding decay properties within this framework. Our analysis demonstrates that the mixed state $\omega_{4S\text{-}3D}^\prime$ exhibits excellent agreement with the observed resonance, not only in mass and width but also in the products of its dielectron width and branching ratios, $\Gamma_{e^+e^-}^{\mathcal{R}}\times\mathcal{B}_{\mathcal{R}\to\rho\pi}$ and $\Gamma_{e^+e^-}^{\mathcal{R}}\times\mathcal{B}_{\mathcal{R}\to\rho(1450)\pi\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0}$. The determined mixing angle, $\theta = -\left(31.1^{+2.1}_{-3.1}\right)\degree$, strongly supports the interpretation of this structure as the $\omega_{4S\text{-}3D}^\prime$ state. Furthermore, we predict dominant decay channels for $\omega_{4S\text{-}3D}^\prime$ and its partner state $\omega_{4S\text{-}3D}^{\prime\prime}$. These predictions, together with the proposed mixing mechanism, provide crucial guidance for future experimental studies aimed at probing this structure and rigorously testing the $4S$-$3D$ mixing hypothesis.

Higher strangeonium decays into light flavor baryon pairs like $\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}$, $\Sigma\bar{\Sigma}$, and $\Xi\bar{\Xi}$

In this work, we investigate the decay behaviors of several higher strangeonia into $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ through a hadronic loop mechanism, enabling us to predict some physical observables, including the branching ratios. Furthermore, we assess the reliability of our research by successfully reproducing experimental data related to the cross section of $e^+e^-\to\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}$ interactions. In this context, we account for the contributions arising from higher strangeonia, specifically $\phi(4S)$ and $\phi(3D)$. Additionally, we extend this study to encompass higher strangeonia decays into other light flavor baryon pairs, such as $\Sigma\bar\Sigma$ and $\Xi\bar\Xi$. By employing the same mechanism, we aim to gain valuable insights into the decay processes involving these particles. By conducting this investigation, we hope to shed light on the intricate decay mechanisms of higher strangeonia and their interactions with various baryons pairs.

Broad resonance structure in $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$ and higher $\rho$-meson excitations

Recently, the BaBar Collaboration reported a broad resonance structure near 2 GeV when analyzing the $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$ process, which provides a good opportunity to study the higher $\rho$-mesonic states. When considering the $\rho(1900)$ and $\rho(2150)$ contributions, the experimental data of the cross section of $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$ around 2 GeV can be well depicted, especially the observed broad resonance structure in $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$ containing two substructures is suggested by the present work. Additionally, we also indicate a possible signal of $\rho(5S)$ around 2.5 GeV in the $e^+e^-\to f_1(1285)\pi^+\pi^-$ process. The obtained result may provide a valuable hint to identify higher $\rho$ mesons, which will be a new task for the BESIII and Belle II experiments with the accumulation of higher precision data.

The role of the $\omega(4S)$ and $\omega(3D)$ states in mediating the $e^+e^-\to \omega\eta$ and $\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ processes

The $e^+e^-\to \omega\eta$ and $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ processes are ideal platforms to search for higher $\omega$ states. Focusing on the observations of two enhancement structures around 2.2 GeV existing in $e^+e^-\to \omega\eta$ and $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ at BESIII, we analyze how the $\omega(4S)$ and $\omega(3D)$ states play the role in the $e^+e^-\to \omega\eta$ and $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ processes. The present study is supported by theoretical $\omega$ mesonic spectroscopy. For reproducing the data of the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to\omega\eta$ and $\omega\pi^0\pi^0$, the intermediate $\omega(4S)$ and $\omega(3D)$ should be introduced, which indicates that the enhancement structures around 2.2 GeV existing in $e^+e^-\to\omega\eta$ and $\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ contain the $\omega(4S)$ and $\omega(3D)$ signals. Nonetheless, in the process $e^+e^-\to\omega\eta$, the $\omega(4S)$ plays a dominant role, while the $\omega(4S)$ and $\omega(3D)$ have similar sizable contributions in the process of $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0\pi^0$, which leads to a difference in the line shape of enhancement structure in the cross sections under the interference effect. Thus, we find a solution to alleviate the puzzling difference of resonance parameter of two reported enhancement structures around 2.2 GeV existing in $e^+e^-\to \omega\eta$ and $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0\pi^0$ at BESIII. The present study provides valuable information to construct $\omega$ meson family, which can be accessible at future experiment like BESIII.

Identifying the contribution of higher $\rho$ mesons around 2 GeV in the $e^+ e^- \to \omega\pi^0$ and $e^+ e^- \to \rho \eta^{\prime}$ processes

The properties of the light vector meson states around 2.0 GeV have been poorly understood for a long time, which has become a barrier to the expansion to higher light vector meson spectrum. Recently, the BESIII collaboration released the measurements of the $e^+ e^- \to \omega\pi^0$ and $e^+ e^- \to \rho\eta^{\prime}$ reactions above 2.0 GeV, both of which are ideal processes to study the isovector $\rho$ meson family. In this work, through carrying out a combined analysis of the Born cross section data for the above two processes with the theoretical support on mass spectrum, and production and strong decay behaviors of the $\rho$ meson family around 2.0 GeV, we identify the enhancement structure near 2034 MeV observed in $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0$ to be the interference contribution from two resonances $\rho(1900)$ and $\rho(2150)$, and another enhancement structure at 2111 MeV reported in $e^+e^-\to\rho\eta^{\prime}$ to be the contributions from $\rho(2000)$ and $\rho(2150)$. This conclusion means that the $e^+e^-\to\omega\pi^0$ and $e^+e^-\to\rho \eta^{\prime}$ are the excellent golden channels to establish $\rho(1900)$ and $\rho(2000)$, especially for a $D$-wave state $\rho(2000)$, whose experimental search in the $e^+e^-$ collision should be quite challenging. The relevant cross section measurements with higher precision are expected in the future BESIII and Belle II experiments.

Toward charged $Z_{cs}(3985)$ structure under a reflection mechanism

Very recently, the BESIII collaboration reported a charged hidden-charm structure with strangeness in the recoil mass of $K^+$ of a process $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*-}D^0K^+$ or $D_s^{-}D^{*0}K^+$, which is named as $Z_{cs}(3985)^{-}$. The newly observed charged structure can be treated as a partner structure with strangeness of well-known $Z_{c}(3885)^{-}$ reported in a process $e^+e^-\to D^{*-}D^0\pi^+$. In this work, we propose a novel picture to understand the nature of $Z_{cs}(3985)$. By performing a combined analysis for the line shape of the recoil mass distribution of $K^+$ at five energy points $\sqrt{s}=4.628, 4.641, 4.661, 4.681, 4.698$ GeV, we find that the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ can be explained as a reflection structure of charmed-strange meson $D_{s2}^{*}(2573)$, which is produced from the open-charm decay of $Y(4660)$ with a $D_s^*$ meson. Furthermore, we predicted the angular distribution of final state $D_s^{*-}$ in process $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*-}D^0K^+$ based on our proposed reaction mechanism, which may be an essential criterion to test the non-resonant nature of $Z_{cs}(3985)$ further.

Potential higher radial excitations in the light pseudoscalar meson family

Inspired by the event accumulation around 2.6 GeV in the $\eta^\prime\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass spectrum of $J/\psi\to \gamma \eta^\prime\pi^+\pi^-$, which was reported by the BESIII Collaboration, we carry out the study of the mass spectrum and decay behavior of four radial excitations in the pseudoscalar meson family, which include $\eta^{(\prime)}(6S)$ and $\eta^{(\prime)}(7S)$. Combining with these analysis, we present the calculation of the reactions induced by a pion or kaon on the proton target which are relevant to these four discussed states. According to this information, we give concrete experimental suggestion of searching for them, which will become a new task for future experiments.

Role of the low-lying nucleon resonances in the $p\bar{p} \to \psi \eta$ reaction

Within the effective Lagrangian approach, we study the $p\bar{p} \rightarrow \psi\eta$ [$\psi\equiv\psi(3686)$, $J/\psi$] reaction at the low energy where the contributions from nucleon pole and low-lying nucleon resonances, $N(1520)$, $N(1535)$ and $N(1650)$ are considered. All the model parameters are determined with the help of current experimental data on the decay of $\psi \to p \bar{p} \eta$. Within the model parameters, the total and differential cross sections of the $p\bar{p} \rightarrow \psi\eta$ reaction are predicted. We show that the relative phases between different amplitudes of different nucleon resonance will change significantly the angular distributions of the $\bar{p} p \to \psi \eta$ reaction. Therefore, we conclude that these reactions are suitable to study experimentally the properties of the low-lying nucleon resonance and the reaction mechanisms. We hope that these theoretical calculations can be tested by future experiments.

Exotic pentaquark states with the $qqQQ\bar{Q}$ configuration

In the framework of the color-magnetic interaction model, we have systematically calculated the mass splittings for the S-wave triply heavy pentaquark states with the configuration $qqQQ\bar{Q}$ $(Q=c,b;q=u,d,s)$. Their masses are estimated and their stabilities are discussed according to possible rearrangement decay patterns. Our results indicate that there may exist several stable or narrow such states. We hope the present study can help experimentalists to search for exotic pentaquarks.

Surveying exotic pentaquarks with the typical $QQqq\bar{q}$ configuration

As a hot issue, exploring exotic pentaquarks is full of challenges and opportunities for both theorist and experimentalist. In this work, we focus on a type of pentaquark with the $QQqq\bar{q}$ ($Q=b,c$; $q=u,d,s$) configuration, where their mass spectrum is estimated systematically. Especially, our result indicates that there may exist some stable or narrow exotic pentaquark states. Obviously, our study may provides valuable information for further experimental search for the $QQqq\bar{q}$ pentaquarks. With the running of LHCb and forthcoming Belle II, we have a reason to believe that these predictions present here can be tested.
