Weighted Perimeters and pth Moments of Inertia of Convex Curves and Surfaces

We study a shape optimization problem among convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^n$ that minimize or maximize weighted perimeters of the form $\int_{\partial\Omega} \phi(|x|) \, \mathrm{d} H^{n-1}(x)$ under a standard perimeter constraint. We prove the existence of extremals for general weight functions in any dimension. In dimension two, we prove that the degenerate needle configuration $(-a,a)\times \{0\} \subset \mathbb{R}^2$ is the optimizer for a wide family of weights, including $|x|^p$ for $p \in (0,2]$ and $|x|^{-\alpha}$ for $\alpha \in (0,1)$, among convex curves satisfying a symmetry assumption.

A mixed eigenvalue problem on domains tending to infinity in several directions

The aim of this article is to analyze the asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues of elliptic operators in divergence form with mixed boundary type conditions for domains that become unbounded in several directions, while they stay bounded in some directions (cylindrical domains). The limiting behavior of such eigenvalues is shown to depend on an ensemble of eigenvalue problems defined on a domain that is unbounded only in one direction. The asymptotic behavior of the eigenfunctions are also discussed. This work is a continuation of the work done in [6].

Asymptotic issue for fractional laplacian on long cylinders

In this paper, we are concerned with the asymptotic behavior of weak solutions to certain elliptic and parabolic problems involving the fractional $p$-Laplacian in cylindrical domains that become unbounded in one direction. The nonlocal nature of the operator describing the equations creates several technical difficulties in treating problems of this type. The main results, obtained within a nonlocal abstract framework, extend and complement related properties established in the local setting.

Finsler $p$-Laplacian in domains becoming unbounded

We study the asymptotic behavior of sequences of solutions, energies functionals, and the first eigenvalues associated with the Finsler $p$-Laplace operator, also known as the anisotropic $p$-Laplace operator on a sequence of bounded cylinders whose length tends to infinity. We prove that the solutions on the bounded cylinders converge to the solution on the cross-section, with a polynomial rate of convergence in the general case and exponential convergence in some special cases. We show that energies on finite cylinders, with the multiplication of a scaling factor, converge to the energy on the cross-section. Finally, we investigate the convergence of the first eigenvalue and, for a specific subclass, we provide the optimal convergence rate.

The Trudinger type inequality in fractional boundary Hardy inequality

We establish Trudinger-type inequality in the context of fractional boundary Hardy-type inequality for the case $sp=d$, where $p>1, ~ s \in (0,1)$ on a bounded Lipschitz domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^d$. In particular, we establish fractional version of Trudinger-type inequality with an extra singular function, namely $d$-th power of the distance function from $\partial \Omega$ in the denominator of the integrand. The case $d=1$, as it falls in the category $sp=1$, becomes more delicate where an extra logarithmic correction is required together with subtraction of an average term.

A fractional Hardy-Sobolev inequality of Michael-Simon type on convex hypersurfaces

In this paper we prove a fractional version of a Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type interpolation inequality on hypersurfaces $M\subset\R^{n+1}$ which are boundaries of convex sets. The inequality carries a universal constant independent of $M$ and involves the fractional mean curvature of $M.$ In particular, it interpolates between the fractional Micheal-Simon Sobolev inequality recently obtained by Cabr\'e, Cozzi, and the first author, and a new fractional Hardy inequality on $M$. Our method, when restricted to the plane case $M=\R^n$, gives a new simple proof of the fractional Hardy inequality. To obtain the fractional Hardy inequality on a hypersurface, we establish an inequality which bounds a weighted perimeter of $M$ by the standard perimeter of $M$ (modulo a universal constant), and which is valid for all convex hypersurfaces $M$.

Boundary fractional Hardy's inequality in dimension one: The critical case

We prove fractional boundary Hardy's inequality in dimension one for the critical case $sp =1$. Optimality of the inequality is obtained for any $p$. The extra logarithmic correction term appears in usual fashion. We also provide a concrete (workable) example of a sequence of smooth functions that converges to constant function in $W^{s,p}((0,1))$ for $sp=1$ and $p=2$.

Fractional Hardy inequality with singularity on submanifold

We establish fractional Hardy inequality on bounded domains in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with inverse of distance function from smooth boundary of codimension $k$, where $k=2, \dots,d$, as weight function. The case $sp=k$ is the critical case, where optimal logarithmic corrections are required. All the other cases of $sp k$ are also addressed.

Boundary Hardy inequality on functions of bounded variation

Classical boundary Hardy inequality, that goes back to 1988, states that if $1 < p < \infty, \ ~\Omega$ is bounded Lipschitz domain, then for all $u \in C^{\infty}_{c}(\Omega)$, $$\int_{\Omega} \frac{|u(x)|^{p}}{\delta^{p}_{\Omega}(x)} dx \leq C\int_{\Omega} |\nabla u(x) |^{p}dx,$$ where $\delta_\Omega(x)$ is the distance function from $\Omega^c$. In this article, we address the long standing open question on the case $p=1$ by establishing appropriate boundary Hardy inequalities in the space of functions of bounded variation. We first establish appropriate inequalities on fractional Sobolev spaces $W^{s,1}(\Omega)$ and then Brezis, Bourgain and Mironescu's result on limiting behavior of fractional Sobolev spaces as $s\rightarrow 1^{-}$ plays an important role in the proof. Moreover, we also derive an infinite series Hardy inequality for the case $p=1$.

On Fractional Orlicz-Hardy Inequalities

We establish the weighted fractional Orlicz-Hardy inequalities for various Orlicz functions. Further, we identify the critical cases for each Orlicz function and prove the weighted fractional Orlicz-Hardy inequalities with logarithmic correction. Moreover, we discuss the analogous results in the local case. In the process, for any Orlicz function $\Phi$ and for any $\Lambda>1$, the following inequality is established $$ \Phi(a+b)\leq \lambda\Phi(a)+\frac{C( \Phi, \Lambda )}{(\lambda-1)^{p_\Phi^+-1}}\Phi(b),\;\;\;\forall\,a,b\in [0,\infty),\,\forall\,\lambda\in (1,\Lambda], $$ where $p_\Phi^+:=\sup\big\{t\varphi(t)/\Phi(t):t>0\big\},$ $\varphi$ is the right derivatives of $\Phi$ and $C( \Phi, \Lambda )$ is a positive constant that depends only on $\Phi$ and $\Lambda.$

Fractional Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities on the Heisenberg group

The aim of this work is to establish some cases of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities on the Heisenberg group for the fractional Sobolev spaces. Here we work with the fractional Sobolev spaces as given by Adimurthi and Mallick in [1]. Our inequalities also give an improvement on the range of indices for the Hardy type inequality established in [1].

Magnetic fractional Poincar\'e inequality in punctured domains

We study Poincar\'e-Wirtinger type inequalities in the framework of magnetic fractional Sobolev spaces. In the local case, Lieb-Seiringer-Yngvason [E. Lieb, R. Seiringer, and J. Yngvason, Poincar\'e inequalities in punctured domains, Ann. of Math., 2003] showed that, if a bounded domain $\Omega$ is the union of two disjoint sets $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$, then the $L^p$-norm of a function calculated on $\Omega$ is dominated by the sum of magnetic seminorms of the function, calculated on $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$ separately. We show that the straightforward generalisation of their result to nonlocal setup does not hold true in general. We provide an alternative formulation of the problem for the nonlocal case. As an auxiliary result, we also show that the set of eigenvalues of the magnetic fractional Laplacian is discrete.

Fractional boundary Hardy inequality for the critical cases

We establish generalised fractional boundary Hardy-type inequality, in the spirit of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality for different values of $s$ and $p$ on various domains in $\mathbb{R}^d, ~ d \geq 1$. In particular, for Lipschitz bounded domains any values of $s$ and $p$ are admissible, settling all the cases in subcritical, supercritical and critical regime. In this paper we have solved the open problems posed by Dyda for the critical case $sp =1$. Moreover we have proved the embeddings of $W^{s,p}_{0}(\Omega)$ in subcritical, critical and supercritical uniformly without using Dyda's decomposition. Additionally, we extend our results to include a weighted fractional boundary Hardy-type inequality for the critical case.

Nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problems in cylindrical domains becoming unbounded in one direction

The aim of this work is to characterize the asymptotic behaviour of the first eigenfunction of the generalised p-Laplace operator with mixed (Dirichlet and Neumann) boundary conditions in cylindrical domains when the length of the cylindrical domains tends to infinity. This generalises an earlier work of Chipot et.al. "Asymptotics of eigenstates of elliptic problems with mixed boundary data on domains tending to infinity" published in Asymptotic Analysis in 2013, where the linear case p=2 is studied. Asymptotic behavior of all the higher eigenvalues of the linear case and the second eigenvalues of general case (using topological degree) for such problems is also studied.

Hardy and Poincar\'e inequalities in fractional Orlicz-Sobolev spaces

We provide sufficient conditions for boundary Hardy inequality to hold in bounded Lipschitz domains, complement of a point (the so-called point Hardy inequality), domain above the graph of a Lipschitz function, the complement of a bounded Lipschitz domain in fractional Orlicz-Sobolev setting. As a consequence, we get sufficient conditions for regional fractional Orlicz Poincar\'e inequality in bounded Lipschitz domains. Necessary conditions for fractional Orlicz Hardy and regional fractional Orlicz Poincar\'e inequalities are also given for bounded Lipschitz domains. Various sufficient conditions on open sets are provided for fractional Orlicz Poincar\'e inequality and regional fractional Orlicz Poincar\'e inequality to hold.

Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu Domains

Bourgain et al.(2001) proved that for $p>1$ and smooth bounded domain $\Omega\subseteq\mathbb{R}^N$, \begin{equation*} \lim\limits_{s\to1}(1-s)\iint \limits_{\Omega \times \Omega}\frac{\lvert f(x)-f(y) \rvert^p}{\lvert x-y \rvert^{N+sp}}dx dy=\kappa \int \limits_{\Omega}\lvert \nabla f(x) \rvert^p dx \end{equation*} for all $f\in L^p(\Omega)$. This gives a characterization of $W^{1,p}(\Omega)$ by means of $W^{s,p}(\Omega)$ seminorms only. For the case $p=1$, D\'avila(2002) proved that when $\Omega$ is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary, \begin{equation*} \lim\limits_{s\to1}(1-s)\iint \limits_{\Omega \times \Omega}\frac{\lvert f(x)-f(y) \rvert}{\lvert x-y \rvert^{N+s}}dx dy=\kappa [f]_{BV(\Omega)} \end{equation*} for all $f\in L^1(\Omega)$. This characterizes $BV(\Omega)$ in terms of $W^{s,1}(\Omega)$ seminorm. In this paper we extend the first result and partially extend the second result to extension domains.

Fractional Poincar\'e Inequality for Unbounded Domains with Finite Ball Condition: Counter Example

In this paper we investigate the fractional Poincar\'e inequality on unbounded domains. In the local case, Sandeep-Mancini showed that in the class of simply connected domains, Poincar\'e inequality holds if and only if the domain does not allow balls of arbitrarily large radius (finite ball condition). We prove that such a result can not be true in the `nonlocal/fractional' setting even if finite ball condition is replaced by a related stronger condition. We further provide some sufficient criterions on domains for fractional Poincar\'e inequality to hold. In the end, asymptotic behaviour of all eigenvalues of fractional Dirichlet problems on long cylindrical domains is addressed.

On the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of nonlinear elliptic problems in domains becoming unbounded

We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of nonlinear elliptic problems under Dirichlet boundary conditions and mixed (Dirichlet, Neumann) boundary conditions on domains becoming unbounded. We make intensive use of Picone identity to overcome nonlinearity complications. Altogether the use of Picone identity makes the proof easier with respect to the known proof in the linear case. Surprisingly the asymptotic behavior under mixed boundary conditions critically differs from the case of pure Dirichlet boundary conditions for some class of problems.
