A prospective randomized study of patient-centered AI for clinical visit preparation

Patients often arrive at brief, time-constrained clinical visits unsure of what to expect or ask, and millions of adults now turn to general-purpose AI chatbots to prepare beforehand. Yet whether conversational AI improves visit readiness remains unclear. We designed a large language model (LLM)-based visit preparation agent to guide patients before an appointment by gathering clinical context, setting visit expectations, providing relevant health information, building a prioritized list of questions for their clinician, and generating a summary. In a prospective consented randomized study in the Google Health app, 802 U.S. adults held 866 health-related conversations with the visit preparation agent (standard or concise variant) or a minimally prompted control chatbot built on the same LLM. The visit preparation agent significantly outperformed the control across blinded clinician evaluations and patient self-reports. In clinician reviews of completed sessions (n = 272), the agent achieved a 16.6% higher rate of comprehensive preparation (67.2% vs. 50.6%; P < 0.05) and an 8.5% higher rate of alignment with patients' health context (98.9% vs. 90.4%; P < 0.01), while maintaining high medical safety and appropriateness across all study arms. Patient post-surveys (n = 460) showed 16.8% higher visit preparedness (73.8% vs. 57.0%; P < 0.01), 14.3% higher confidence in knowing what to ask (81.4% vs. 67.1%; P < 0.01), and 12.0% higher overall satisfaction (74.0% vs. 62.0%; P < 0.05). Clinician and participant metrics were not significantly correlated, indicating that expert review and patient self-assessment capture complementary dimensions of patient-facing AI. These findings suggest that LLM chatbots can safely help patients prepare for clinical visits, with greater benefit when following a structured workflow, and motivate future studies on in-visit communication and clinical outcomes.

Bayesian Learning-Aided Near-Field Channel Estimation for mmWave Hybrid MIMO systems employing Uniform Circular Array

This work conceives a Ring-Bayes channel learning framework that unifies Bayesian learning with near-field channel estimation in millimeter-wave (mmWave) hybrid MIMO systems. As the number of antennas scales up, users increasingly fall within the near-field region, rendering the conventional planar-wave assumption invalid. Moreover, the widely studied uniform linear arrays (ULAs) at the base station are impractical for large-scale deployment, whereas uniform circular arrays (UCAs) achieve superior beamforming gain and spatial directivity with the same antenna aperture. To exploit these advantages, we design a near-field concentric-ring codebook that captures channel features jointly in angular and distance domains. Leveraging this structure, the proposed Ring-Bayes framework enables highly accurate recovery of UCA near-field channels. Extensive simulations confirm that our approach delivers substantial improvements over existing methods, establishing Ring-Bayes as a powerful and scalable solution for next-generation mmWave communications.

Revolutionizing Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: Advances and Challenges of 3D Printing System and Control

The advent of 3D printing has transformed the pharmaceutical industry, enabling precision drug manufacturing with controlled release profiles, dosing, and structural complexity. Additive manufacturing (AM) addresses the growing demand for personalized medicine, overcoming limitations of traditional methods. This technology facilitates tailored dosage forms, complex geometries, and real-time quality control. Recent advancements in drop-on-demand printing, UV curable inks, material science, and regulatory frameworks are discussed. Despite opportunities for cost reduction, flexibility, and decentralized manufacturing, challenges persist in scalability, reproducibility, and regulatory adaptation. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of AM in pharmaceutical manufacturing, exploring recent developments, challenges, and future directions for mainstream integration.

Aggregated Customer Engagement Model

E-commerce websites use machine learned ranking models to serve shopping results to customers. Typically, the websites log the customer search events, which include the query entered and the resulting engagement with the shopping results, such as clicks and purchases. Each customer search event serves as input training data for the models, and the individual customer engagement serves as a signal for customer preference. So a purchased shopping result, for example, is perceived to be more important than one that is not. However, new or under-impressed products do not have enough customer engagement signals and end up at a disadvantage when being ranked alongside popular products. In this paper, we propose a novel method for data curation that aggregates all customer engagements within a day for the same query to use as input training data. This aggregated customer engagement gives the models a complete picture of the relative importance of shopping results. Training models on this aggregated data leads to less reliance on behavioral features. This helps mitigate the cold start problem and boosted relevant new products to top search results. In this paper, we present the offline and online analysis and results comparing the individual and aggregated customer engagement models trained on e-commerce data.

A perspective on correlation-based financial networks and entropy measures

In this brief review, we critically examine the recent work done on correlation-based networks in financial systems. The structure of empirical correlation matrices constructed from the financial market data changes as the individual stock prices fluctuate with time, showing interesting evolutionary patterns, especially during critical events such as market crashes, bubbles, etc. We show that the study of correlation-based networks and their evolution with time is useful for extracting important information of the underlying market dynamics. We, also, present our perspective on the use of recently developed entropy measures such as structural entropy and eigen-entropy for continuous monitoring of correlation-based networks.
