In 2012, T. Miyazaki and A. Togbé gave all of the solutions of the Diophantine equations $(2am-1)^x+(2m)^y=(2am+1)^z$ and $b^x+2^y=(b+2)^z$ in positive integers $x,y,z,$ $a>1$ and $b\ge 5$ odd. In this paper, we propose a similar problem (which we call the shuffle variant of a Diophantine equation of Miyazaki and Togbé). Here we first prove that the Diophantine equation $(2am+1)^x+(2m)^y=(2am-1)^z$ has only the solutions $(a, m, x, y, z)=(2, 1, 2, 1, 3)$ and $(2,1,1,2,2)$ in positive integers $a>1,m,x,y,z$. Then using this result, we show that the Diophantine equation $b^x+2^y=(b-2)^z$ has only the solutions $(b,x, y, z)=(5, 2, 1, 3)$ and $(5,1,2,2)$ in positive integers $x,y,z$ and $b$ odd.
We say that $M$ and $S$ form a \textsl{splitting} of $G$ if every nonzero element $g$ of $G$ has a unique representation of the form $g=ms$ with $m\in M$ and $s\in S$, while $0$ has no such representation. The splitting is called {\it nonsingular} if $\gcd(|G|, a) = 1$ for any $a\in M$. In this paper, we focus our study on nonsingular splittings of cyclic groups. We introduce a new notation --direct KM logarithm and we prove that if there is a prime $q$ such that $M$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_q$, then there are infinitely many primes $p$ such that $M$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_p$.
Suppose that $n$ is a positive integer. In this paper, we show that the exponential Diophantine equation $$(n-1)^{x}+(n+2)^{y}=n^{z},\ n\geq 2,\ xyz\neq 0$$ has only the positive integer solutions $(n,x,y,z)=(3,2,1,2), (3,1,2,3)$. The main tools on the proofs are Baker's theory and Bilu-Hanrot-Voutier's result on primitive divisors of Lucas numbers.
Let $G$ be a finite abelian group. We say that $M$ and $S$ form a \textsl{splitting} of $G$ if every nonzero element $g$ of $G$ has a unique representation of the form $g=ms$ with $m\in M$ and $s\in S$, while $0$ has no such representation. The splitting is called \textit{purely singular} if for each prime divisor $p$ of $|G|$, there is at least one element of $M$ is divisible by $p$. In this paper, we mainly study the purely singular splittings of cyclic groups. We first prove that if $k\ge3$ is a positive integer such that $[-k+1, \,k]^*$ splits a cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_m$, then $m=2k$. Next, we have the following general result. Suppose $M=[-k_1, \,k_2]^*$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_{n(k_1+k_2)+1}$ with $1\leq k_1< k_2$. If $n\geq 2$, then $k_1\leq n-2$ and $k_2\leq 2n-5$. Applying this result, we prove that if $M=[-k_1, \,k_2]^*$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_m$ purely singularly, and either $(i)$ $\gcd(s, \,m)=1$ for all $s\in S$ or $(ii)$ $m=2^αp^β$ or $2^αp_1p_2$ with $α\geq 0$, $β\geq 1$ and $p$, $p_1$, $p_2$ odd primes, then $m=k_1+k_2+1$ or $k_1=0$ and $m=k_2+1$ or $2k_2+1$.
Given integers $k_1, k_2$ with $0\le k_1<k_2$, the determinations of all positive integers $q$ for which there exists a perfect Splitter $B[-k_1, k_2](q)$ set is a wide open question in general. In this paper, we obtain new necessary and sufficient conditions for an odd prime $p$ such that there exists a nonsingular perfect $B[-1,3](p)$ set. We also give some necessary conditions for the existence of purely singular perfect splitter sets. In particular, we determine all perfect $B[-k_1, k_2](2^n)$ sets for any positive integers $k_1,k_2$ with $k_1+k_2\ge4$. We also prove that there are infinitely many prime $p$ such that there exists a perfect $B[-1,3](p)$ set.
In 1956, Je$\acute{s}$manowicz conjectured that, for positive integers $m$ and $n$ with $m>n, \, \gcd(m,\, n)=1$ and $m\not\equiv n\pmod{2}$, the exponential Diophantine equation $(m^2-n^2)^x+(2mn)^y=(m^2+n^2)^z$ has only the positive integer solution $(x,\,y,\, z)=(2,\,2,\,2)$. Recently, Ma and Chen \cite{MC17} proved the conjecture if $4\not|mn$ and $y\ge2$. In this paper, we present an elementary proof of the result of Ma and Chen \cite{MC17}.
Permutation polynomials (PPs) of the form $(x^{q} -x + c)^{\frac{q^2 -1}{3}+1} +x$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ were presented by Li, Helleseth and Tang [Finite Fields Appl. 22 (2013) 16--23]. More recently, we have constructed PPs of the form $(x^{q} +bx + c)^{\frac{q^2 -1}{d}+1} -bx$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$, where $d=2, 3, 4, 6$ [Finite Fields Appl. 35 (2015) 215--230]. In this paper we concentrate our efforts on the PPs of more general form \[ f(x)=(ax^{q} +bx +c)^r ϕ((ax^{q} +bx +c)^{(q^2 -1)/d}) +ux^{q} +vx~~\text{over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$}, \] where $a,b,c,u,v \in \mathbb{F}_{q^2}$, $r \in \mathbb{Z}^{+}$, $ϕ(x)\in \mathbb{F}_{q^2}[x]$ and $d$ is an arbitrary positive divisor of $q^2-1$. The key step is the construction of a commutative diagram with specific properties, which is the basis of the Akbary--Ghioca--Wang (AGW) criterion. By employing the AGW criterion two times, we reduce the problem of determining whether $f(x)$ permutes $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ to that of verifying whether two more polynomials permute two subsets of $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$. As a consequence, we find a series of simple conditions for $f(x)$ to be a PP of $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$. These results unify and generalize some known classes of PPs.
In this paper, we show that an order $m$ dimension 2 tensor is primitive if and only if its majorization matrix is primitive, and then we obtain the characterization of order $m$ dimension 2 strongly primitive tensors and the bound of the strongly primitive degree. Furthermore, we study the properties of strongly primitive tensors with $n\geq 3$, and propose some problems for further research.
In this paper, we mainly discuss the characterization of a class of arithmetic functions $f: N \rightarrow C$ such that $f(u^{2}+kv^2)=f^{2}(u)+kf^{2}(v)$ $(k, u, v \in N)$. We obtain a characterization with given condition, propose a conjecture and show the result holds for $k \in \{2, 3, 4, 5 \}$.
Four recursive constructions of permutation polynomials over $\gf(q^2)$ with those over $\gf(q)$ are developed and applied to a few famous classes of permutation polynomials. They produce infinitely many new permutation polynomials over $\gf(q^{2^\ell})$ for any positive integer $\ell$ with any given permutation polynomial over $\gf(q)$. A generic construction of permutation polynomials over $\gf(2^{2m})$ with o-polynomials over $\gf(2^m)$ is also presented, and a number of new classes of permutation polynomials over $\gf(2^{2m})$ are obtained.
In this paper, we obtain the sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative irreducible matrix. We also apply these bounds to various matrices associated with a graph or a digraph, obtain some new results or known results about various spectral radii, including the adjacency spectral radius, the signless Laplacian spectral radius, the distance spectral radius, the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph or a digraph.
Let $H$ be a Krull monoid with class group $G$ such that every class contains a prime divisor (for example, rings of integers in algebraic number fields or holomorphy rings in algebraic function fields). For $k \in \mathbb N$, let $\mathcal U_k (H)$ denote the set of all $m \in \mathbb N$ with the following property: There exist atoms $u_1, ..., u_k, v_1, ..., v_m \in H$ such that $u_1 \cdot ... \cdot u_k = v_1 \cdot ...\cdot v_m$. Furthermore, let $λ_k (H) = \min \mathcal U_k (H)$ and $ρ_k (H) = \sup \mathcal U_k (H)$. The sets $\mathcal U_k (H) \subset \mathbb N$ are intervals which are finite if and only if $G$ is finite. Their minima $λ_k (H)$ can be expressed in terms of $ρ_k (H)$. The invariants $ρ_k (H)$ depend only on the class group $G$, and in the present paper they are studied with new methods from Additive Combinatorics.
In this paper, we consider infinite sums derived from the reciprocals of the generalized Fibonacci numbers. We obtain some new and interesting identities for the generalized Fibonacci numbers.
In this paper, we show that the exponent set of nonnegative primitive tensors with order m(\geq 3) and dimension n is {1,2,\ldots, (n-1)^2+1}; and propose some open problems for further research.
Recently, Song and Qi extended the concept of P, P_0 and B matrices to P, P_0, B and B_0 tensors, obtained some properties about these tensors, and proposed many questions for further research. In this paper, we answer three questions mentioned as above and obtain further results about P, P_0, B and B_0 tensors.
In this paper, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for a nonnegative tensor to be a primitive one, show that the exponent set of nonnegative primitive tensors with order $m(\ge n)$ and dimension $n$ is $\{k| 1\le k\le (n-1)^2+1\}. $
Permutation polynomials have been a subject of study for a long time and have applications in many areas of science and engineering. However, only a small number of specific classes of permutation polynomials are described in the literature so far. In this paper we present a number of permutation trinomials over finite fields, which are of different forms.
