Gevrey well-posedness of quasi-linear hyperbolic Prandtl equations

We study the hyperbolic version of the Prandtl system derived from the hyperbolic Navier-Stokes system with no-slip boundary condition. Compared to the classical Prandtl system, the quasi-linear terms in the hyperbolic Prandtl equation leads to an additional instability mechanism. To overcome the loss of derivatives in all directions in the quasi-linear term, we introduce a new auxiliary function for the well-posedness of the system in an anisotropic Gevrey space which is Gevrey class $\frac 32$ in the tangential variable and is analytic in the normal variable.

Semantic Communications with Explicit Semantic Base for Image Transmission

Semantic communications, aiming at ensuring the successful delivery of the meaning of information, are expected to be one of the potential techniques for the next generation communications. However, the knowledge forming and synchronizing mechanism that enables semantic communication systems to extract and interpret the semantics of information according to the communication intents is still immature. In this paper, we propose a semantic image transmission framework with explicit semantic base (Seb), where Sebs are generated and employed as the knowledge shared between the transmitter and the receiver with flexible granularity. To represent images with Sebs, a novel Seb-based reference image generator is proposed to generate Sebs and then decompose the transmitted images. To further encode/decode the residual information for precise image reconstruction, a Seb-based image encoder/decoder is proposed. The key components of the proposed framework are optimized jointly by end-to-end (E2E) training, where the loss function is dedicatedly designed to tackle the problem of nondifferentiable operation in Seb-based reference image generator by introducing a gradient approximation mechanism. Extensive experiments show that the proposed framework outperforms state-of-art works by 0.5 - 1.5 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) w.r.t. different signal-to-noise ratios (SNR).

A Statistical Study of Solar White-Light Flares Observed by the White-light Solar Telescope of the Lyman-alpha Solar Telescope on the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S/LST/WST) at 360 nm

Solar white-light flares (WLFs) are those accompanied by brightenings in the optical continuum or integrated light. The White-light Solar Telescope (WST), as an instrument of the Lyman-alpha Solar Telescope (LST) on the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), provides continuous solar full-disk images at 360 nm, which can be used to study WLFs. We analyze 205 major flares above M1.0 from October 2022 to May 2023 and identify 49 WLFs at 360 nm from WST observations, i.e. with an occurrence rate of 23.9%. The percentages of WLFs for M1 - M4 (31 out of 180), M5 - M9 (11 out of 18), and above X1 (7 for all) flares are 17.2%, 61.1%, and 100%, respectively, namely the larger the flares, the more likely they are WLFs at 360 nm. We further analyze 39 WLFs among the identified WLFs and investigate their properties such as white-light enhancement, duration, and brightening area. It is found that the relative enhancement of the white-light emission at 360 nm is mostly (>90%) less than 30% and the mean enhancement is 19.4%. The WLFs' duration at 360 nm is mostly (>80%) less than 20 minutes and its mean is 10.3 minutes. The brightening area at 360 nm is mostly (>75%) less than 500 arcsecond2 and the median value is 225. We find that there exist good correlations between the white-light enhancement/duration/area and the peak soft X-ray (SXR) flux of the flare, with correlation coefficients of 0.68, 0.58, and 0.80, respectively. In addition, the white-light emission in most WLFs peaks around the same time as the temporal derivative of SXR flux as well as the hard X-ray emission at 20 - 50 keV, indicative of Neupert effect. It is also found that the limb WLFs are more likely to have a greater enhancement, which is consistent with numerical simulations.

Monolayer Fe$_{3}$GaX$_{2}$ (X=I, Br, Sb): high-temperature two-dimensional magnets and a novel partially ordered spin state

We systematically investigated the effects of charge doping and strain on monolayer Fe$_3$GaTe$_2$, and proposed three new novel two-dimensional magnetic materials: monolayer Fe$_3$GaX$_2$ (X=I, Br, Sb). We found that both strain and charge doping can tune the magnetic interactions, and the tuning by charge doping is more significant. Differential charge analysis revealed that the doped charges predominantly accumulate around Te atoms. Based on this insight, we introduced Fe$_{3}$GaI$_{2}$, Fe$_{3}$GaBr$_{2}$, and Fe$_{3}$GaSb$_{2}$ monolayers. The Fe$_{3}$GaI$_{2}$ and Fe$_{3}$GaBr$_{2}$ monolayers contain I and Br atoms rather than Te atoms, emulate electron-doped Fe$_{3}$GaTe$_{2}$ monolayer, resulting in notably high T$_c$ values of 867 K and 844 K, respectively. In contrast, the Fe$_3$GaSb$_2$ monolayer mimics hole-doped Fe$_{3}$GaTe$_{2}$ monolayer, presents a mix of FM and antiferromagnetic interactions, manifesting a distinctive partially ordered magnetic state. Our study demonstrates that substitution atoms based on the charge-doping effect offer a promising approach for predicting new magnetic materials. The proposed Fe$_{3}$GaI$_{2}$, Fe$_{3}$GaBr$_{2}$, and Fe$_{3}$GaSb$_{2}$ monolayers hold great potential for spintronics applications, and may stimulate the pursuit of new types of spin liquid.

Fundamental Limitation of Semantic Communications: Neural Estimation for Rate-Distortion

This paper studies the fundamental limit of semantic communications over the discrete memoryless channel. We consider the scenario to send a semantic source consisting of an observation state and its corresponding semantic state, both of which are recovered at the receiver. To derive the performance limitation, we adopt the semantic rate-distortion function (SRDF) to study the relationship among the minimum compression rate, observation distortion, semantic distortion, and channel capacity. For the case with unknown semantic source distribution, while only a set of the source samples is available, we propose a neural-network-based method by leveraging the generative networks to learn the semantic source distribution. Furthermore, for a special case where the semantic state is a deterministic function of the observation, we design a cascade neural network to estimate the SRDF. For the case with perfectly known semantic source distribution, we propose a general Blahut-Arimoto algorithm to effectively compute the SRDF. Finally, experimental results validate our proposed algorithms for the scenarios with ideal Gaussian semantic source and some practical datasets.

The linear response theory approach to the sub-GeV dark matter in the Sun

In recent years, the importance of the electronic in-medium effect in the sub-GeV dark matter (DM) direct detection has been recognized and a coherent formulation of the DM-electron scattering based the linear response theory has been well established in the literature. In this paper, we apply the formulation to the scattering between DM particles and solar medium, and it is found that the dynamic structure factor inherently incorporate the particle-particle scattering and in-medium effect. Using this tool and taking a benchmark model as an example, we demonstrate how the in-medium effect affect the scattering of DM particles in the Sun, in both the heavy and light mediator limit. Formulae derived in this work lay the foundation for accurately calculating the spectra of solar-accelerated DM particles, which is of particular importance for the detection of DM particles via plasmon in semiconductor targets.

Domain Invariant Representation Learning and Sleep Dynamics Modeling for Automatic Sleep Staging

Sleep staging has become a critical task in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders to prevent sleep related diseases. With growing large scale sleep databases, significant progress has been made toward automatic sleep staging. However, previous studies face critical problems in sleep studies; the heterogeneity of subjects' physiological signals, the inability to extract meaningful information from unlabeled data to improve predictive performances, the difficulty in modeling correlations between sleep stages, and the lack of an effective mechanism to quantify predictive uncertainty. In this study, we propose a neural network based sleep staging model, DREAM, to learn domain generalized representations from physiological signals and models sleep dynamics. DREAM learns sleep related and subject invariant representations from diverse subjects' sleep signals and models sleep dynamics by capturing interactions between sequential signal segments and between sleep stages. We conducted a comprehensive empirical study to demonstrate the superiority of DREAM, including sleep stage prediction experiments, a case study, the usage of unlabeled data, and uncertainty. Notably, the case study validates DREAM's ability to learn generalized decision function for new subjects, especially in case there are differences between testing and training subjects. Uncertainty quantification shows that DREAM provides prediction uncertainty, making the model reliable and helping sleep experts in real world applications.

6G Network AI Architecture for Everyone-Centric Customized Services

Mobile communication standards were developed for enhancing transmission and network performance by using more radio resources and improving spectrum and energy efficiency. How to effectively address diverse user requirements and guarantee everyone's Quality of Experience (QoE) remains an open problem. The Sixth Generation (6G) mobile systems will solve this problem by utilizing heterogenous network resources and pervasive intelligence to support everyone-centric customized services anywhere and anytime. In this article, we first coin the concept of Service Requirement Zone (SRZ) on the user side to characterize and visualize the integrated service requirements and preferences of specific tasks of individual users. On the system side, we further introduce the concept of User Satisfaction Ratio (USR) to evaluate the system's overall service ability of satisfying a variety of tasks with different SRZs. Then, we propose a network Artificial Intelligence (AI) architecture with integrated network resources and pervasive AI capabilities for supporting customized services with guaranteed QoEs. Finally, extensive simulations show that the proposed network AI architecture can consistently offer a higher USR performance than the cloud AI and edge AI architectures with respect to different task scheduling algorithms, random service requirements, and dynamic network conditions.

On the global existence and uniqueness of solution to 2-D inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in critical spaces

In this paper, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of solution to $2$-D inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations \eqref{1.2} with initial data in the critical spaces. Precisely, under the assumption that the initial velocity $u_0$ in $L^2 \cap\dot B^{-1+\frac{2}{p}}_{p,1}$ and the initial density $ρ_0$ in $L^\infty$ and having a positive lower bound, which satisfies $1-ρ_0^{-1}\in \dot B^{\frac{2}λ}_{λ,2}\cap L^\infty,$ for $p\in[2,\infty[$ and $λ\in [1,\infty[$ with $\frac{1}{2}<\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}λ\leq1,$ the system \eqref{1.2} has a global solution. The solution is unique if $p=2.$ With additional assumptions on the initial density in case $p>2,$ we can also prove the uniqueness of such solution. In particular, this result improves the previous work in \cite{AG2021} where $u_{0}$ belongs to $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{0}$ and $ρ_0^{-1}-1$ belongs to $\dot{ B}_{\frac{2}{\varepsilon},1}^{\varepsilon}$, and we also remove the assumption that the initial density is close enough to a positive constant in \cite{DW2023} yet with additional regularities on the initial density here.

Channel-Transferable Semantic Communications for Multi-User OFDM-NOMA Systems

Semantic communications are expected to become the core new paradigms of the sixth generation (6G) wireless networks. Most existing works implicitly utilize channel information for codecs training, which leads to poor communications when channel type or statistical characteristics change. To tackle this issue posed by various channels, a novel channel-transferable semantic communications (CT-SemCom) framework is proposed, which adapts the codecs learned on one type of channel to other types of channels. Furthermore, integrating the proposed framework and the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems integrating non-orthogonal multiple access technologies, i.e., OFDM-NOMA systems, a power allocation problem to realize the transfer from additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels to multi-subcarrier Rayleigh fading channels is formulated. We then design a semantics-similar dual transformation (SSDT) algorithm to derive analytical solutions with low complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed CT-SemCom framework with SSDT algorithm significantly outperforms the existing work w.r.t. channel transferability, e.g., the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of image transmission improves by 4.2-7.3 dB under different variances of Rayleigh fading channels.

On the one time-varying component regularity criteria for 3-D Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper, we consider the one time-varying component regularity criteria for local strong solution of 3-D Navier-Stokes equations. Precisely, if $β(t)$ is a piecewise $H^1$ unit vector from $[0,T] $ to $\Bbb{S}^2$ with finitely many jump discontinuities, we prove that if $\int_0^{T}\|u(t)\cdot β(t)\|_{\dot{H}^{\frac32}(\mathbb{R}^3)}^2\,dt<\infty,$ then the solution $u$ can be extended beyond the time $T.$ Compared with the previous results concerning one-component regularity criteria, here the unit vector $β(t)$ varies with time variable.

Superconductivity in Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene: C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$

The deposition and intercalation of metal atoms can induce superconductivity in monolayer and bilayer graphenes. For example, it has been experimentally proved that Li-deposited graphene is a superconductor with critical temperature $T_{c}$ of 5.9 K, Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene C$_{6}$CaC$_{6}$ and K-intercalated epitaxial bilayer graphene C$_{8}$KC$_{8}$ are superconductors with $T_{c}$ of 2-4 K and 3.6 K, respectively. However, the $T_{c}$ of them are relatively low. To obtain higher $T_{c}$ in graphene-based superconductors, here we predict a new Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$, which shows higher Ca concentration than the C$_{6}$CaC$_{6}$. It is proved to be thermodynamically and dynamically stable. The electronic structure, electron-phonon coupling (EPC) and superconductivity of C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$ are investigated based on first-principles calculations. The EPC of C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$ mainly comes from the coupling between the electrons of C-$p_{z}$ orbital and the high- and low-frequency vibration modes of C atoms. The calculated EPC constant $λ$ of C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$ is 0.75, and the superconducting $T_{c}$ is 18.9 K, which is much higher than other metal-intercalated bilayer graphenes. By further applying -4\% biaxial compressive strain to C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$, the $T_{c}$ can be boosted to 26.6 K. Thus, the predicted C$_{2}$CaC$_{2}$ provides a new platform for realizing superconductivity with the highest $T_{c}$ in bilayer graphenes.

Pinching estimates of hypersurfaces by a generalized Gauss curvature flow

A variant of the Gauss curvature flow for closed and convex hypersurfaces is considered. We reveal that if the initial hypersurface is pinched enough, then this property is preserved. Furthermore, based on some structure assumptions on the speed function of the shrinking flow, we show that the flow converges to a sphere. This may generalize the result of B. Chow\cite{CW85} to the possible non-homogeneous curvature flows.

A composite ansatz for the calculation of dynamical structure factor

We propose an ansatz without adjustable parameters for the calculation of dynamical structure factor. The ansatz combines quasi-particle Green's function, especially the contribution from the renormalization factor, and the exchange-correlation kernel from time-dependent density functional theory together, verified for typical metals and semiconductors from plasmon excitation regime to Compton scattering regime. It has the capability to reconcile both small-angle and large-angle x-ray scattering (IXS) signals with much improved accuracy, which can be used, as the theoretical base model, in inversely inferring electronic structures of condensed matter from IXS experimental signals directly. It may also used to diagnose thermal parameters, such as temperature and density, of dense plasmas in x-ray Thomson scattering experiments.

Integrated Sensing and Communication enabled Multiple Base Stations Cooperative Sensing Towards 6G

Driven by the intelligent applications of sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication systems such as smart city and autonomous driving, which connect the physical and cyber space, the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) brings a revolutionary change to the base stations (BSs) of 6G by integrating radar sensing and communication in the same hardware and wireless resource. However, with the requirements of long-range and accurate sensing in the applications of smart city and autonomous driving, the ISAC enabled single BS still has a limitation in the sensing range and accuracy. With the networked infrastructures of mobile communication systems, multi-BS cooperative sensing is a natural choice satisfying the requirement of long-range and accurate sensing. In this article, the framework of multi-BS cooperative sensing is proposed, breaking through the limitation of single-BS sensing. The enabling technologies, including unified ISAC performance metrics, ISAC signal design and optimization, interference management, cooperative sensing algorithms, are introduced in details. The performance evaluation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of multi-BS cooperative sensing schemes. With ISAC enabled multi-BS cooperative sensing (ISAC-MCS), the intelligent infrastructures connecting physical and cyber space can be established, ushering the era of 6G promoting the intelligence of everything.

Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access Enhanced Multi-User Semantic Communication

Semantic communication serves as a novel paradigm and attracts the broad interest of researchers. One critical aspect of it is the multi-user semantic communication theory, which can further promote its application to the practical network environment. While most existing works focused on the design of end-to-end single-user semantic transmission, a novel non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based multi-user semantic communication system named NOMASC is proposed in this paper. The proposed system can support semantic tranmission of multiple users with diverse modalities of source information. To avoid high demand for hardware, an asymmetric quantizer is employed at the end of the semantic encoder for discretizing the continuous full-resolution semantic feature. In addition, a neural network model is proposed for mapping the discrete feature into self-learned symbols and accomplishing intelligent multi-user detection (MUD) at the receiver. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system holds good performance in non-orthogonal transmission of multiple user signals and outperforms the other methods, especially at low-to-medium SNRs. Moreover, it has high robustness under various simulation settings and mismatched test scenarios.

Optimizing Mobile-Edge AI-Generated Everything (AIGX) Services by Prompt Engineering: Fundamental, Framework, and Case Study

As the next-generation paradigm for content creation, AI-Generated Content (AIGC), i.e., generating content automatically by Generative AI (GAI) based on user prompts, has gained great attention and success recently. With the ever-increasing power of GAI, especially the emergence of Pretrained Foundation Models (PFMs) that contain billions of parameters and prompt engineering methods (i.e., finding the best prompts for the given task), the application range of AIGC is rapidly expanding, covering various forms of information for human, systems, and networks, such as network designs, channel coding, and optimization solutions. In this article, we present the concept of mobile-edge AI-Generated Everything (AIGX). Specifically, we first review the building blocks of AIGX, the evolution from AIGC to AIGX, as well as practical AIGX applications. Then, we present a unified mobile-edge AIGX framework, which employs edge devices to provide PFM-empowered AIGX services and optimizes such services via prompt engineering. More importantly, we demonstrate that suboptimal prompts lead to poor generation quality, which adversely affects user satisfaction, edge network performance, and resource utilization. Accordingly, we conduct a case study, showcasing how to train an effective prompt optimizer using ChatGPT and investigating how much improvement is possible with prompt engineering in terms of user experience, quality of generation, and network performance.

Stability and superconductivity of freestanding two-dimensional transition metal boridene: M4/3B2

The small atomic mass of boron indicates strong electron-phonon coupling, so it may have a brilliant performance in superconductivity. Recently, a new 2D boride sheet with ordered metal vacancies and surface terminals (Mo4/3B2-x) was realized in experiments (Science 2021, 373, 801). Here, the 2D monolayer freestanding Mo4/3B2is evidenced to be thermodynamically stable. Through electronic structure, phonon spectrum and electron-phonon coupling, monolayer Mo4/3B2 is found to be an intrinsic phonon-mediated superconductor. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is determined to be 4.06 K by the McMillian-Allen-Dynes formula. Remarkably, the Tc of monolayer Mo4/3B2 can be increased to 6.78 K with an appropriate biaxial tensile strain (+5%). Moreover, we predict that other transition metal replacing Mo atoms is also stable and retaining the superconductivity. Such as monolayer W4/3B2 is also a superconductor with the Tc of 2.37 K. Our research results enrich the database of 2D monolayer superconductors and boron-related formed materials science.
