A note on Iwasawa-type decomposition

We study the Iwasawa-type decomposition of an open subset of SL(n,C) as SU(p,q)AN. We show that the dressing action of SU(p,q) is globally defined on the space of admissible elements in AN. We also show that the space of admissible elements is a multiplicative subset of AN. We establish a geometric criterion: the symmetrization of an admissible element maps the positive cone in C^n into itself.

Standard Monomial Theory of RR varieties

We construct the RR varieties as the fiber products of Bott-Samelson varieties over Richardson varieties. We study their homogeneous coordinate rings and standard monomial theory.

The Poisson geometry of SU(1,1)

We study the natural Poisson structure on the Lie group SU(1,1) and related questions. In particular, we give an explicit description of the Ginzburg-Weinstein isomorphism for the sets of admissible elements. We also establish an analogue of Thompson's conjecture for this group.

Row Convex Tableaux and Bott-Samelson Varieties

By using row convex tableaux, we study the section rings of Bott-Samelson varieties of type A. We obtain flat deformations and standard monomial type bases of the section rings. In a separate section, we investigate a three dimensional Bott-Samelson variety in detail and compute its Hilbert polynomial and toric degenerations.

Polygons in Minkowski space and Gelfand-Tsetlin for pseudounitary groups

We study the symplectic geometry of the moduli spaces of polygons in the Minkowski 3-space. These spaces naturally carry completely integrable systems with periodic flows. We extend the Gelfand-Tsetlin method to pseudo-unitary groups and show that the action variables are given by the Minkowsky lengths of non-intersecting diagonals.

A symplectic approach to van den Ban's convexity theorem

Let G be a complex semisimple Lie group and τa complex antilinear involution that commutes with the Cartan involution. If H denotes the connected subgroup of τ-fixed points in G, and K is maximally compact, each H-orbit in G/K can be equipped with a Poisson structure as described by Evens and Lu. We consider symplectic leaves of certain such H-orbits with a natural hamiltonian torus action. A symplectic convexity theorem of Hilgert-Neeb-Plank then leads to van den Ban's convexity theorem for (complex) semisimple symmetric spaces.

Toric degenerations of weight varieties and applications

We show that a weight variety, which is a quotient of a flag variety by the maximal torus, admits a flat degeneration to a toric variety. In particular, we show that the moduli spaces of spatial polygons degenerate to polarized toric varieties with the moment polytopes defined by the lengths of their diagonals. We extend these results to more general Flaschka-Millson hamiltonians on the quotients of products of projective spaces. We also study boundary toric divisors and certain real loci.

A note on Lagrangian loci of quotients

We study hamiltonian actions of compact groups in the presence of compatible involutions. We show that the lagrangian fixed point set on the symplectically reduced space is isomorphic to the disjoint union of the involutively reduced spaces corresponding to involutions on the group strongly inner to the given one. Our techniques imply that the solution to the eigenvalues of a sum problem for a given real form can be relayed to the quasi-split real form in the same inner class. We also consider invariant quotients with respect to the corresponding real form of the complexified group.

The Geometry of Polygons in R^5 and Quaternions

We consider the moduli space M_r of polygons with fixed side lengths in five-dimensional eucledian space. We analyze the local structure of its singularities and exhibit a real-analytic equivalence between M_r and a weighted quotient of the n-fold product of the quaternionic projective line HP^1 by the diagonal PSL(2,H)-action. We explore the relation between M_r and the fixed point set of an anti-symplectic involution on a GIT quotient Gr(2,4)^n/SL(4,C). We generalize the Gel'fand-MacPherson correspondence to more general complex Grassmannians and to the quaternionic context, and realize our space M_r as a quotient of a subspace in the quaternionic Grassmannian Gr_H(2,n) by the action of the group Sp(1)^n. We also give analogues of the Gel'fand-Tsetlin coordinates on the space of quaternionic Hermitean matrices and briefly describe generalized action-angle coordinates on M_r.

A Poisson structure on compact symmetric spaces

We present some basic results on a natural Poisson structure on any compact symmetric space. The symplectic leaves of this structure are related to the orbits of the corresponding real semisimple group on the complex flag manifold.

Poisson structures on complex flag manifolds associated with real forms

For a complex semi-simple group G and its real form G0 we define a Poisson structure on the flag variety of G such that all the Bruhat cells (for a suitable choice of a Borel subgroup of G) as well as all the G0-orbits are Poisson submanifolds. We show that each intersection of a G0-orbit with a Bruhat cell is a regular Poisson submanifold and we compute the dimensions of its symplectic leaves.

Geometry of Four-vector Fields on Quaternionic Flag Manifolds

The purpose of this paper is to describe certain natural 4-vector fields on quaternionic flag manifolds, which geometrically determine the Bruhat cell decomposition. This structure naturally descends from the symplectic group, where it is related to the dressing action given by the Iwasawa decomposition of the general linear group over the quaternions.

Integrable systems associated with the Bruhat Poisson structures

The purpose of this note is to give a simple description of a (complete) family of functions in involution on certain hermitian symmetric spaces. This family, obtained via bi-hamiltonian approach using the Bruhat Poisson structure, is especially simple for the projective spaces, where the formulas in terms of the moment map coordinates are presented. We show how these functions are related to the Gelfand-Tsetlin coordinates. We also show how the Lenard scheme can be applied.

Tetraplectic structures, tri-momentum maps, and quaternionic flag manifolds

The purpose of this note is to define tri-moment maps for certain manifolds that carry closed non-degenerate 4-forms and an $Sp(1)^n$-action. Examples include quaternionic vector spaces and flag manifolds. We show how this map can be used ro reduce such manifolds to the ones with fewer symmetries. The images of such maps for quaternionic flag manifolds, which are defined using the Dieudonné determinant, resemble the polytopes from the complex case.

Logarithmic forms with twisted coefficients

Given a compact Kaehler manifold, we consider the complement U of a divisor with normal crossings and a unitary local system V on it. We consider a differential graded Lie algebra (DGLA) of forms with holomorphic logarithmic singularities and vanishing residues. We construct a spectral sequence corresponding to the anti-holomorphic filtration of this algebra and compute its E1 term. This spectral sequence converges to the L2 cohomology H2*(U, V). We show that this DGLA is formal, although it does not always satisfy to the d'd''-Lemma.

Moduli of flat bundles on open Kaehler manifolds

We consider the moduli space MN of flat unitary connections on an open Kaehler manifold U (complement of a divisor with normal crossings) with restrictions on their monodromy transformations. Using intersection and L2 cohomologies with degenerating coefficients we construct a natural symplectic form F on MN. When U is quasi-projective we prove that F is actually a Kaehler form.
