Incompressible and fast rotation limits for 3D compressible rotating Euler system with general initial data

This paper is concerned with the low Mach and Rossby number limits of $3$D compressible rotating Euler equations with ill-prepared initial data in the whole space. More precisely, the initial data is the sum of a $3$D part and a $2$D part. With the help of a suitable intermediate system, we perform this singular limit rigorously with the target system being a $2$D QG-type. This particularly gives an affirmative answer to the question raised by Ngo and Scrobogna [\emph{Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst.}, 38 (2018), pp. 749-789]. As a by-product, our proof gives a rigorous justification from the $2$D inviscid rotating shallow water equations to the $2$D QG equations in whole space.

Dispersion of compressible rotating Euler equations with low Mach and Rossby numbers

In this paper, we consider the low Mach and Rossby number singular limits and longtime existence of strong solution to the initial value problem of 3D compressible rotating Euler equations with ill-prepared initial data. We establish the Strichartz decay estimates that are uniform to the Mach number, the Rossby number, and the ratio of these two parameters for the associated linear propagator without any restrictions on the frequency. In particular, difficulties arisen from the degeneracy of the phase function and the vanishing of the ratio of the two parameters are addressed by elaborately designed splitting techniques and discussions for each frequencies. Using the decay estimates, we prove the longtime existence and obtain a rate of convergence to zero of strong solution to the compressible rotating Euler equations with initial data of finite energy in $\mathbb{R}^3$.

Low Mach number limit of strong solutions to the compressible primitive equations with gravity

In this paper, we explore the low Mach number singular limit of the local-in-time strong solutions to the compressible primitive equations with gravity for general adiabatic coefficient. First we construct the uniform estimate for the solutions to the non-dimensional compressible primitive equations with general ill-prepared initial data. Due to the effects of gravity and the anisotropy of the system, the operator with large coefficient in this model is not explicitly skew-symmetric. Thus, obtaining the uniform estimate requires novel techniques. After that, we investigate rigorously the low Mach number limit of the compressible primitive equations with both well-prepared and ill-prepared initial data. The limiting system is shown to be the incompressible primitive equations with inhomogeneous density that depends on the vertical variable.

On the Generalization and Advancement of Half-Sine-Based Pulse Shaping Filters for Constant Envelope OQPSK Modulation

The offset quadrature phase-shift keying (OQPSK) modulation is a key factor for the technique of ZigBee, which has been adopted in IEEE 802.15.4 for wireless communications of Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), etc. In this paper, we propose the general conditions of pulse shaping filters (PSFs) with constant envelope (CE) property for OQPSK modulation, which can be easily leveraged to design the PSFs with CE property. Based on these conditions, we further design an advanced PSF called $\alpha$-half-sine PSF. It is verified that the newly designed $\alpha$-half-sine PSF can not only keep the CE property for OQPSK but also achieve better performance than the traditional PSFs in certain scenarios. Moreover, the $\alpha$-half-sine PSF can be simply adjusted to achieve a flexible performance tradeoff between the transition roll-off speed and out-of-band leakage.

STAR-RIS Aided Covert Communication

This paper investigates the multi-antenna covert communications assisted by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). In particular, to shelter the existence of communications between transmitter and receiver from a warden, a friendly full-duplex receiver with two antennas is leveraged to make contributions to confuse the warden. Considering the worst case, the closed-form expression of the minimum detection error probability (DEP) at the warden is derived and utilized as a covert constraint. Then, we formulate an optimization problem maximizing the covert rate of the system under the covertness constraint and quality of service (QoS) constraint with communication outage analysis. To jointly design the active and passive beamforming of the transmitter and STAR-RIS, an iterative algorithm based on globally convergent version of method of moving asymptotes (GCMMA) is proposed to effectively solve the non-convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed STAR-RIS-assisted scheme highly outperforms the case with conventional RIS.

Simultaneously Transmitting and Reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) Assisted Multi-Antenna Covert Communications: Analysis and Optimization

This paper investigates the multi-antenna covert communications assisted by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). In particular, to shelter the existence of covert communications between a multi-antenna transmitter and a single-antenna receiver from a warden, a friendly full-duplex receiver with two antennas is leveraged to make contributions where one antenna is responsible for receiving the transmitted signals and the other one transmits the jamming signals with a varying power to confuse the warden. Considering the worst case, the closed-form expression of the minimum detection error probability (DEP) at the warden is derived and utilized in a covert constraint to guarantee the system performance. Then, we formulate an optimization problem maximizing the covert rate of the system under the covertness constraint and quality of service (QoS) constraint with communication outage analysis. To jointly design the active and passive beamforming of the transmitter and STAR-RIS, an iterative algorithm based on semi-definite relaxation (SDR) method and Dinkelbachs algorithm is proposed to effectively solve the non-convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed STAR-RIS-assisted scheme highly outperforms the case with conventional RIS, which validates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm as well as the superiority of STAR-RIS in guaranteeing the covertness of wireless communications.

Physical Layer Security for NOMA-Enabled Multi-Access Edge Computing Wireless Networks

Multi-access edge computing (MEC) has been regarded as a promising technique for enhancing computation capabilities for wireless networks. In this paper, we study physical layer security in an MEC system where multiple users offload partial of their computation tasks to a base station simultaneously based on non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), in the presence of a malicious eavesdropper. Secrecy outage probability is adopted to measure the security performance of the computation offloading against eavesdropping attacks. We aim to minimize the sum energy consumption of all the users, subject to constraints in terms of the secrecy offloading rate, the secrecy outage probability, and the decoding order of NOMA. Although the original optimization problem is non-convex and challenging to solve, we put forward an efficient algorithm based on sequential convex approximation and penalty dual decomposition. Numerical results are eventually provided to validate the convergence of the proposed algorithm and its superior energy efficiency with secrecy requirements.

High-Mobility Wideband Massive MIMO Communications: Doppler Compensation, Analysis and Scaling Law

In this paper, we apply angle-domain Doppler compensation for high-mobility wideband massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) uplink transmission. The time-varying multipath channel is considered between high-speed terminal and static base station (BS), where multiple Doppler frequency offsets (DFOs) are associated with distinct angle of departures (AoDs). With the aid of the large-scale uniform linear array (ULA) at the transmitter, we design a beamforming network to generate multiple parallel beamforming branches, each transmitting signal pointing to one particular angle. Then, the transmitted signal in each branch will experience only one dominant DFO when passing over the time-varying channel, which can be easily compensated before transmission starts. We theoretically analyze the Doppler spread of the equivalent uplink channel after angle-domain Doppler compensation, which takes into account both the mainlobe and sidelobes of the transmit beam in each branch. It is seen that the channel time-variation can be effectively suppressed if the number of transmit antennas is sufficiently large. Interestingly, the asymptotic scaling law of channel variation is obtained, which shows that the Doppler spread is proportional to the maximum DFO and decreases approximately as $1/\sqrt{M}$ ($M$ is the number of transmit antennas) when $M$ is sufficiently large. Numerical results are provided to corroborate the proposed scheme.

Angle-Domain Doppler Pre-Compensation for High-Mobility OFDM Uplink with a Massive ULA

In this paper, we propose a Doppler pre-compensation scheme for high-mobility orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) uplink, where a high-speed terminal transmits signals to the base station (BS). Considering that the time-varying multipath channel consists of multiple Doppler frequency offsets (DFOs) with different angle of departures (AoDs), we propose to perform DFO pre-compensation at the transmitter with a large-scale uniform linear array (ULA). The transmitted signal passes through a beamforming network with high-spatial resolution to produce multiple parallel branches. Each branch transmits signal towards one direction thus it is affected by one dominant DFO when passing over the time-varying channel. Therefore, we can compensate the DFO for each branch at the transmitter previously. Theoretical analysis for the Doppler spread of the equivalent uplink channel is also conducted. It is found that when the number of transmit antennas is sufficiently large, the time-variation of channel can be efficiently suppressed. Therefore, the performance will not degrade significantly if applying the conventional time-invariant channel estimation and equalization methods at the receiver. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed scheme.

High-Mobility OFDM Downlink Transmission with Large-Scale Antenna Array

In this correspondence, we propose a new receiver design for high-mobility orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) downlink transmissions with a large-scale antenna array. The downlink signal experiences the challenging fast time-varying propagation channel. The time-varying nature originates from the multiple carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) due to the transceiver oscillator frequency offset (OFO) and multiple Doppler shifts. Let the received signal first go through a carefully designed beamforming network, which could separate multiple CFOs in the spatial domain with sufficient number of receive antennas. A joint estimation method for the Doppler shifts and the OFO is further developed. Then the conventional single-CFO compensation and channel estimation method can be carried out for each beamforming branch. The proposed receiver design avoids the complicated time-varying channel estimation, which differs a lot from the conventional methods. More importantly, the proposed scheme can be applied to the commonly used time-varying channel models, such as the Jakes' channel model.
