A lattice model of heavy-light three-body system

We present a study of a $1+1$ dimensional heavy-light three-body system in finite volume. The heavy-light system is simulated by a coupled-channel $ϕ^4$ type lattice model, and both ground state and excited states of multiparticle energy spectra are measured on various lattices. The lattice simulation data analysis is performed based on variational approach.

A new PIR-based method for real-time tracking

Pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors are considered to be promising devices for device-free localization due to its advantages of low cost, less intrusive, and the immunity from multi-path fading. However, most of the existing PIR-based localization systems only utilize the binary information of PIR sensors and therefore require a large number of PIR sensors and a careful deployment. A few works directly map the raw data of PIR sensors to one's location using machine learning approaches. However, these approaches require to collect abundant training data and suffer from environmental change. In this paper, we propose a PIR-based device-free localization approach based on the raw data of PIR sensors. The key of this approach is to extract a new type of location information called as the azimuth change. The extraction of the azimuth change relies on the physical properties of PIR sensors. Therefore, no abundant training data are needed and the system is robust to environmental change. Through experiments, we demonstrated that a device-free localization system incorporating the information of azimuth change outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of higher location accuracy. In addition, the information of the azimuth change can be easily integrated with other PIR-based localization systems to improve their localization accuracy.

Exceptional cycles for perfect complexes over gentle algebras

Exceptional cycles in a triangulated category $\mathcal T$ with Serre duality, introduced by N. Broomhead, D. Pauksztello, and D. Ploog, have a notable impact on the global structure of $\mathcal T$. In this paper we show that if $\mathcal T$ is homotopy-like, then any exceptional $1$-cycle is indecomposable and at the mouth; and any object in an exceptional $n$-cycle with $n\ge 3$ is at the mouth. Let $A$ be an indecomposable gentle $k$-algebra with $A\ne k$. The Hom spaces between string complexes at the mouth are explicitly determined. The main result classifies "almost all" the exceptional cycles in $K^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$, using characteristic components and their AG-invariants, except those exceptional $1$-cycles which are band complexes. Namely, the mouth of a characteristic component $C$ of $K^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$ forms a unique exceptional cycle in $C$, up to an equivalent relation $\approx$; if the quiver of $A$ is not of type $A_3$, this gives all the exceptional $n$-cycle in $K^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$ with $n\ge 2$, up to $\approx$; and a string complex is an exceptional $1$-cycle if and only if it is at the mouth of a characteristic component with {\rm AG}-invariant $(1, m)$. However, a band complex at the mouth is possibly not an exceptional $1$-cycle.

Transmission coefficient of interacting few-body system in one dimensional space

We present a novel way of defining transmission coefficient of one spatial dimensional few interacting electrons system. The formalism is based on the probability interpretation of unitarity of physical scattering $S$-matrix. The relation of our formalism to the well-established method for describing the conducting properties of non-interacting systems, Landauer-Büttiker formula, is discussed. The transport properties of interacting two-electron system is also discussed as a specific example of our formalism.

Variational approach to $N$-body interactions in finite volume

We explore variational approach to the finite-volume $N$-body problem. The general formalism for N non-relativistic spinless particles interacting with periodic pair-wise potentials yields N-body secular equations. The solutions depend on the infinite-volume N-body wave functions. Given that the infinite-volume N-body dynamics may be solved by the standard Faddeev approach, the variational N-body formalism can provide a convenient numerical framework for finding discrete energy spectra in periodic lattice structures.

Multiple-particle interaction in $1+1$ dimensional lattice model

Finite volume multiple-particle interaction is studied in a two-dimensional complex $ϕ^4$ lattice model. The existence of analytical solutions to the $ϕ^4$ model in two-dimensional space and time makes it a perfect model for the numerical study of finite volume effects of multi-particle interaction. The spectra from multiple particles are extracted from the Monte Carlo simulation on various lattices in several moving frames. The $S$-matrix of multi-particle scattering in $ϕ^4$ theory is completely determined by two fundamental parameters: single particle mass and the coupling strength of two-to-two particle interaction. These two parameters are fixed by studying single-particle and two-particle spectra. Due to the absence of the diffraction effect in the $ϕ^{4}$ model, three-particle quantization conditions are given in a simple analytical form. The three-particle spectra from simulation show remarkable agreement with the prediction of exact solutions.

An solvable three-body model in finite volume

In this work, based on consideration of periodicity and asymptotic forms of wave function, we propose a novel approach to the solution of finite volume three-body problem by mapping a three-body problem into a higher dimensional two-body problem. The idea is demonstrated by an example of two light spinless particles and one heavy particle scattering in one spatial dimension. This 1D three-body problem resembles a two-body problem in two spatial dimensions mathematically, and quantization condition of 1D three-body problem is thus derived accordingly.

An numerical approach for finite volume three-body interaction

In present work, we study an numerical approach to one dimensional finite volume three-body interaction, the method is demonstrated by considering a toy model of three spinless particles interacting with pair-wise $δ$-function potentials. The numerical results are compared with the exact solutions of three spinless bosons interaction when strength of short-range interactions are set equal for all pairs.

Weighted finite impulse response filter for chromatic dispersion equalization in coherent optical fiber communication systems

Time-domain chromatic dispersion (CD) equalization using finite impulse response (FIR) filter is now a common approach for coherent optical fiber communication systems. The complex weights of FIR filter taps are calculated from a truncated impulse response of the CD transfer function, and the modulus of the complex weights is constant. In our work, we take the limited bandwidth of a single channel signal into account and propose weighted FIR filters to improve the performance of CD equalization. A raised cosine FIR filter and a Gaussian FIR filter are investigated in our work. The optimization of raised cosine FIR filter and Gaussian FIR filter are made in terms of the EVM of QPSK, 16QAM and 32QAM coherent detection signal. The results demonstrate that the optimized parameters of the weighted filters are independent of the modulation format, symbol rate and the length of transmission fiber. With the optimized weighted FIR filters, the EVM of CD equalization signal is decreased significantly. The principle of weighted FIR filter can also be extended to other symmetric functions as weighted functions.

A coupled-channel formalism for three-body final state interaction

From dispersion relation approach, a formalism that describes final state interaction among three particles in a coupled-channel system is presented in this work. Different representations of coupled-channel three-body formalism with only spinless particles in both initial and final states are derived.

One spatial dimensional finite volume three-body interaction for a short-range potential

In this work, we use McGuire's model to describe scattering of three spinless identical particles in one spatial dimension, we first present analytic solutions of Faddeev's equation for scattering of three spinless particles in free space. The three particles interaction in finite volume is derived subsequently, and the quantization conditions by matching wave functions in free space and finite volume are presented in terms of two-body scattering phase shifts. The quantization conditions obtained in this work for short range interaction are Lüscher's formula like and consistent with Yang's results in \cite{Yang:1967bm}.

Hybrid evolutionary algorithm with extreme machine learning fitness function evaluation for two-stage capacitated facility location problem

This paper considers the two-stage capacitated facility location problem (TSCFLP) in which products manufactured in plants are delivered to customers via storage depots. Customer demands are satisfied subject to limited plant production and limited depot storage capacity. The objective is to determine the locations of plants and depots in order to minimize the total cost including the fixed cost and transportation cost. A hybrid evolutionary algorithm (HEA) with genetic operations and local search is proposed. To avoid the expensive calculation of fitness of population in terms of computational time, the HEA uses extreme machine learning to approximate the fitness of most of the individuals. Moreover, two heuristics based on the characteristic of the problem is incorporated to generate a good initial population. Computational experiments are performed on two sets of test instances from the recent literature. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and analyzed. Compared with the state-of-the-art genetic algorithm, the proposed algorithm can find the optimal or near-optimal solutions in a reasonable computational time.

Dispersive approaches for three-particle final states interaction

In this work, we present different representations of Khuri-Treiman equation, the advantage and disadvantage of each representations are discussed. Using a toy model for scattering amplitude, we study the sensitivity of solution of KT equation to the left hand cut of this toy model and to the different approximate methods. At last, we briefly discuss Watson's theorem when three particles in final states are involved.

Three-body Final State Interaction in $η\to 3 π$

We present an unitary dispersive model for the $η\to 3 π$ decay process based upon the Khuri-Treiman equations which are solved by means of the Pasquier inversion method. The description of the hadronic final-state interactions for the $η\to 3π$ decay is essential to reproduce the available data and to understand the existing discrepancies between Dalitz plot parameters from experiment and chiral perturbation theory. Our approach incorporates substraction constants that are fixed by fitting the recent high-statistics WASA-at-COSY data for $η\to π^+ π^- π^0$. Based on the parameters obtained we predict the slope parameter for the neutral channel to be $α=-0.022\pm 0.004$. Through matching to next-to-leading order chiral perturbation theory we estimate the quark mass double ratio to be $Q=21.4 \pm 0.4$.

Analytic continuation of Pasquier inversion representation of Khuri-Treiman equation

The single integral form of Pasquier inversion representation of Khuri-Treiman (KT) equation presents great advantages for describing final state interaction of three-body decay or production processes. However, the original form of Pasquier inversion representation is only given in decay region and regions below. For the regions above, analytic continuation of original form is required. Because of non-trivial nature of analytic continuation procedure, it is the purpose of this work to obtain a well-defined Pasquier inversion representation of KT equation for all the energy range.

Scheduling step-deteriorating jobs to minimize the total weighted tardiness on a single machine

This paper addresses the scheduling problem of minimizing the total weighted tardiness on a single machine with step-deteriorating jobs. With the assumption of deterioration, the job processing times are modeled by step functions of job starting times and pre-specified job deteriorating dates. The introduction of step-deteriorating jobs makes a single machine total weighted tardiness problem more intractable. The computational complexity of this problem under consideration was not determined. In this study, it is firstly proved to be strongly NP-hard. Then a mixed integer programming model is derived for solving the problem instances optimally. In order to tackle large-sized problems, seven dispatching heuristic procedures are developed for near-optimal solutions. Meanwhile, the solutions delivered by the proposed heuristic are further improved by a pair-wise swap movement. Computational results are presented to reveal the performance of all proposed approaches.

Irradiation effects in the Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy bombarded with MeV Au ions

Irradiation effects in Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy, which is an newly developed structural material for molten salt reactor (MSR), have been systematically investigated by using 3MeV Au ions at different fluences, corresponding to dpa number (displacement per atom) of 1~ 30. GIXRD measurement indicates that the microstrain of the irradiated samples increased from 0.14% to 0.22% as dpa increased from 1 to 30. In the meanwhile, nanoindentation results reveal the Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy underwent radiation-induced hardening first and then softening at dpa of 30. The swelling rate of Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy was found around 1.3% at 30 dpa, which means only 0.04% per dpa. Besides, Raman spectra shows that carbon segregation appeared after Au ions irradiation. Our results are very helpful for understanding irradiation damages in Nickel-base alloys, especially for those in purpose of being used in future MSR nuclear energy system.
