Constraining the Little Higgs model of Schmaltz, Stolarski, and Thaler with recent results from the LHC

In this paper, we use the latest Higgs measurements from ATLAS and CMS to constrain the parameter space of the model of Schmaltz, Stolarski and Thaler, a Little Higgs model with two Higgs doublets, which we will refer to as the BLH model. We account for all production and decay modes explored at ATLAS and CMS in two scenarios: a general case, which assumes the $h_0$ state is light ($m_{h_0} \approx 125$ GeV) and the masses of the other neutral scalars ($H_0$ and $A_0$) are allowed to vary, and a case with a near-degeneracy between the masses of the $h_0$ and $A_0$ and, for some choices of parameters, the $H_0$ states. The near-degeneracy scenario can result in an enhanced diphoton rate, as measured by ATLAS, but is largely ruled out by a combination of the $h_0 \rightarrow τ^+τ^-$ and the heavy $H_0 \rightarrow W^+W^-$ measurements. In the general case, we find large regions of parameter space that are in better agreement with either the ATLAS or CMS results than is the SM. However, a significantly enhanced diphoton rate is only possible through large contributions to the $h_0 γγ$ effective coupling from charged Higgs bosons in a region of parameter space that borders on violation of perturbativity in the scalar sector.

Exploring the heavy quark sector of the Bestest Little Higgs model at the LHC

We present discovery limits for heavy quarks in the Bestest Little Higgs model via pair production at the LHC running at $\sqrt{s} = 7 \mathrm{TeV}$. We study pair produced heavy top-like quarks decaying to $b\bar{b}W^+W^-$ and $t\bar{t}ZZ$ final states and singly produced heavy top-like quarks via t-channel $W$ exchange. These results are compared to currently available limits on heavy top-like quark cross sections from CMS (with 1.14 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity) for two scenarios of Yukawa couplings. We find that the CMS data limits the mass of the lightest top partner to larger than 413 GeV in the first scenario, where the two lightest top-partners have a small mass splitting, and 364 GeV in the second scenario, where the mass splitting between the two lightest top-partners is larger.

Dark matter in a Simplest Little Higgs with T-parity model

Little Higgs models may provide a viable alternative to supersymmetry as an extension of the Standard Model. After the introduction of a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, dubbed T-parity into Little Higgs models they also contain a promising dark matter candidate. We investigate a heavy neutrino as a dark matter candidate in the Simplest Little Higgs with T-parity (SLHT) model. First we calculate relic density constraints on the parameter space of the model and then discuss collider signatures for the SLHT dark matter.

Distinguishing Between Models with Extra Gauge Bosons at the ILC

Extra neutral gauge bosons arise in many extensions of the Standard Model. If one were to be discovered it would be necessary to measure its properties so that we could understand its origins. In this report we find that Z' couplings can be measured at the ILC precisely enough to distinguish between models up to a Z' mass of 2-3 TeV. An important ingredient in these measurements is polarization of the e^- and to a lesser extent e^+ beams. b and c-quark tagging would also give important additional information.

Discovery Potential for Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons in e^+e^- Collisions at LEP

We study the discovery limits for doubly charged Higgs bosons, Delta^{--}, obtainable at the LEP e^+e^- collider. We expect that the LEP2 collaborations can rule out the existence of a doubly charged Higgs boson of mass below about 190 GeV for Yukawa couplings greater than 0.1. However, even for larger values of M_Delta, evidence for the Delta can be seen due to contributions from virtual intermediate Delta's provided they have relatively large values of the Yukawa couplings.

Signatures of Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons in e gamma Collisions

We study the discovery potential for doubly charged Higgs bosons, Delta^--, in the process e- gamma -> e+ mu- mu- for centre of mass energies appropriate to high energy e^+e^- linear colliders and the CLIC proposal. For M_Delta < sqrt{s}_{e gamma} discovery is likely for even relatively small values of the Yukawa coupling to leptons. However, even far above threshold, evidence for the Delta can be seen due to contributions from virtual intermediate Delta's although, in this case, mu- mu- final states can only be produced in sufficient numbers for discovery for relatively large values of the Yukawa couplings.

Discovery and Identification of W' Bosons in e gamma to nu q +X

We examine the sensitivity of the process e gamma to nu q +X to W' bosons which arise in various extensions of the standard model. We consider photon spectra from both the Weizsacker Williams process and from a backscattered laser. The process is found to be sensitive to W' masses up to several TeV, depending on the model, the center of mass energy, the integrated luminosity, and assumptions regarding systematic errors. If extra gauge bosons were discovered first in other experiments, the process could also be used to measure W' couplings. This measurement would provide information that could be used to unravel the underlying theory, complementary to measurements at the Large Hadron Collider.

Constraints on Extra Gauge Bosons in e gamma Collisions

We investigate the sensitivity of e- gamma ---> nu_e nu_mu(bar) mu- to extra charged gauge bosons. The sensitivity is much below that of e-e+ ---> nu nu(bar) gamma. We conclude that e- gamma ---> d u(bar) nu_e and e- gamma ---> f f(bar) e- are also inferior to e+e- collisions in setting bounds on extra charged and neutral gauge bosons and on four fermion contact interactions.

Discovery and Identifictation of Extra Gauge Bosons in e^+e^- -> nu nubar gamma

We examine the sensitivity of the process e+e- -> nu nubar gamma to extra gauge bosons, Z' and W', which arise in various extensions of the standard model. The process is found to be sensitive to W' masses up to several TeV, depending on the model, the center of mass energy, and the assumed integrated luminosity. If extra gauge bosons were discovered first in other experiments, the process could also be used to measure Z' nu nubar and W' couplings. This measurement would provide information that could be used to unravel the underlying theory, complementary to measurements at the Large Hadron Collider.

Constraints on Couplings of Extra Gauge Bosons from e+e- --> nu nubar gamma

If extra gauge bosons are observed at the LHC or at a linear e+e- collider, the reaction e+e- --> nu nubar gamma can give information on the couplings (W' nu l) and (Z' nu nubar). The total cross section and polarization asymmetries are the most sensitive observables for such a measurement. Small systematic errors are crucial to obtain reasonable coupling constraints, especially for a high luminosity collider.

Discovery limits for Techni-Omega production in $eγ$ Collisions

In a strongly-interacting electroweak sector with an isosinglet vector state, such as the techni-omega, $ω_T$, the direct $ ω_T Z γ$ coupling implies that an $ω_T$ can be produced by $Z γ$ fusion in $e γ$ collisions. This is a unique feature for high energy $e^+e^-$ or $e^-e^-$ colliders operating in an $eγ$ mode. We consider the processes $e^- γ\to e^- Zγ$ and $e^- γ\to e^- W^+ W^- Z$, both of which proceed via an intermediate $ω_T$. We find that at a 1.5 TeV $e^+e^-$ linear collider operating in an $eγ$ mode with an integrated luminosity of 200 fb$^{-1}$, we can discover an $ω_T$ for a broad range of masses and widths.

Phenomenology of neutral heavy leptons

We continue our previous work on the flavour-conserving leptonic decays of the Z boson with neutral heavy leptons (NHL's) in the loops by considering box, vertex, and self-energy diagrams for the muon decay. By inclusion of these loops (they contribute to the input parameter M_W) we can probe the full parameter space spanned by the so-called flavour-conserving mixing parameters ee_(mix), μμ_(mix), ττ_(mix) in a superstring-inspired model of neutrino mass. We compare the results of our analysis with the existing work in this field and conclude that flavour-conserving decays have certain advantages over traditionally considered flavour-violating ones.

Single Neutral Heavy Lepton Production at e^+e^- and μ^+ μ^- Colliders

Many extensions of the Standard Model include extra fermions. We here consider a model containing Dirac neutral heavy leptons in addition to massless neutrinos. These neutral heavy leptons can be produced singly along with a massless neutrino in $e^+ e^-$ and $μ^+ μ^-$ collisions. The production rates depend on the neutral heavy lepton masses and mixing parameters. We here consider the rates for this process and potential signatures for the machine energies and luminosities suggested for the Snowmass study.

Photon and Z induced heavy charged lepton pair production at a hadron supercollider

We investigate the pair production of charged heavy leptons via photon-induced processes at the proposed CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Using effective photon and Z approximations, rates are given for $L^+L^-$ production due to $γγ$ fusion and $Z γ$ fusion for the cases of inelastic, elastic and semi-elastic $pp$ collisions. These are compared with the corresponding rates for production via the gluon fusion and Drell-Yan mechanisms. Various $γγ$ and $Z γ$ differential luminosities for $pp$ collisions are also presented.

Some constraints on neutral heavy leptons from flavor-conserving decays of the Z boson

Small neutrino masses can arise in some grand unified models or superstring theories. We consider a model with an enhanced fermion sector containing Dirac neutral heavy leptons. The dependence on the mass and mixing parameters of these new fermions is investigated for several measurable quantities. We study the flavor-conserving leptonic decays of the Z boson and universality breaking in these decays. We also consider the W boson mass dependence on neutral heavy lepton parameters.
