Phase-enhanced nonreciprocal photon-phonon conversion via coupled optomechanical cavities

Nonreciprocity, characterized by direction-dependent signal propagation, is fundamental to technologies such as isolators, signal routing, and precision sensing. This letter theoretically demonstrates nonreciprocal phonon transport and the conversion between photon and acoustic phonon signals in coupled optomechanical cavities via phase-dependent driving. It is demonstrated that, in contrast to nonreciprocal phonon transport, which necessitates both dissipation and phase-induced violation of time reversal symmetry, the nonreciprocity in photon-phonon conversion can occur without violating time reversal symmetry. We demonstrate that such nonreciprocity arises due to the path-dependent asymmetry in photon-phonon conversion. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the nonreciprocity of photon-phonon conversion can be further enhanced, achieving isolation levels of up to 40 dB by suitably modifying the phase difference of the driving lasers.

Quantum Key Distribution with a Negatively Charged Quantum Dot Single-Photon Source

Various quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols require bright single-photon sources with a very low probability of multiphoton emission. In this work, we investigate single-photon generation from a negatively charged quantum dot embedded in an elliptical pillar microcavity, driven by either resonant excitation or adiabatic rapid passage (ARP). Our results show that ARP excitation significantly suppresses multiphoton emission and improves photon indistinguishability compared to resonant excitation. We further evaluate the secure key rates of both BB84 and twin-field QKD (TF-QKD) using a quantum-dot single-photon source and compare its performance with that of Poisson-distributed sources (PDS), such as weak coherent pulses. The analysis reveals that ARP provides a modest but consistent enhancement in secure key rate relative to resonant excitation. We show that quantum-dot single-photon sources offer improved performance compared to PDS sources at short and intermediate distances within the chosen parameter regime; however, at longer distances, PDS sources slightly surpass them in both decoy-state BB84 and TF-QKD under the same conditions.

Polarization entanglement and qubit error rate dependence on the exciton-phonon coupling in self-assembled quantum dots

Polarization-entangled photons are key resources for a wide range of protocols in quantum computation and quantum key distribution. Achieving a near-unity degree of polarization entanglement is essential for minimizing qubit error rates in secure key distribution. In this work, we theoretically investigate polarization-entangled photon pairs generated via a quantum-dot radiative cascade embedded in a micropillar cavity. To account for the unavoidable exciton-phonon interactions in the quantum dot-cavity system, we develop a polaron master-equation framework and examine its impact on the degree of entanglement and the resulting qubit error rate. We derive analytical expressions for phonon-induced incoherent scattering rates and show that one-photon incoherent processes dominate, leading to a substantial reduction of entanglement. We further demonstrate that at elevated phonon-bath temperatures, cavity-mediated effects, such as cross-coupling between exciton states, ac Stark shifts, and multiphoton emission, are significantly suppressed due to phonon-induced renormalization of the cavity coupling strength and the Rabi frequency. Finally, we analyze a BBM92 quantum key distribution protocol and study the evolution of the qubit error rate as a function of the phonon-bath temperature.

Effects of phase-gradient on the nonadiabatic dynamics and photon-phonon conversion in one-dimensional array of optomechanical cavities

Manipulation of photonic and phononic coupling in the coupled cavities plays a crucial role in the development of nonreciprocal devices and photon-phonon conversion. Here, we theoretically investigate how the phase gradient of a driving laser affects the coupling between photonic and phononic modes. This, in turn, affects and offers the controllability of the nonadiabatic dynamics of the population of hybrid eigenmodes following a sudden change in the optomechanical coupling. We show that the controllable nonadiabatic dynamics can be attributed to the phase-induced alteration of the bandgaps in the hybrid eigenmodes. We further demonstrate that the phase-assisted control of the relative weight of photonic and phononic modes in the hybrid eigenmodes also contributes to the nonadiabatic dynamics. Finally, we investigate the effects of phase on the coherent conversion of photon-phonon in a finite-size array.

Effects of cavity-mediated processes on the polarization entanglement of photon pairs emitted from quantum dots

Semiconductor quantum dots are among the best sources of on-demand entangled photon pairs. The degree of entanglement, however, is generally limited by the fine structure splitting of exciton states. In this paper, we theoretically investigate the generation of polarisation-entangled photon pairs under two-photon excitation and cavity-assisted two-photon emission, both in the weak and strong cavity coupling regimes. We demonstrate and clarify that cavity coupling together with an excitation pulse reduces the degree of entanglement in three different ways. Firstly, in a strong coupling regime, cavity introduces the unequal ac-Stark shift of horizontally and vertically polarised exciton states, which results in the effective splitting of exciton states. Secondly, it induces the cross-coupling between the exciton states even in the weak coupling regime, causing the creation of unfavorable two-photon states. Finally, higher excited states of the cavity modes also contribute to the reduction of entanglement. Therefore, in the setting considered here, cavity coupling, which is generally required for the efficient collection of emitted photons, degrades the entanglement both in weak and strong coupling regimes.

Coherence-mediated squeezing of cavity field coupled to a coherently driven single quantum dot

Coherence has been remaining a key resource for numerous applications of quantum physics ranging from quantum metrology to quantum information. Here, we report a theoretical work on how maximally created coherence results in the squeezing of cavity field coupled to a coherently driven single quantum dot. We employ a recently developed polaron master equation theory for accurately incorporating the impact of exciton-phonon coupling on squeezing.

Cavity-assisted enhanced and dephasing immune squeezing in the resonance fluorescence of a single quantum dot

We theoretically demonstrate the enhanced and dephasing immune squeezing in the resonance fluorescence of a single quantum dot (QD) confined to a pillar-microcavity and driven by a continuous wave laser. We employ a formalism based on Polaron master equation theory for incorporating the influence of exciton-phonon coupling quite accurately in the dot-cavity system. We show a significant enhancement of squeezing due to cavity coupling of the QD as compared to that of an ideal single two-level system in free space. Particularly, we show a four-fold enhancement in squeezing as compared to that of a single QD without cavity coupling. We further demonstrate the persistence of squeezing even when the pure dephasing becomes greater than the radiative decay rate. These novel features are attributed to the cavity-enhanced coherence causing partial reduction of the deteriorating effects of phonon-induced incoherent rates. We also show that the deteriorating effects of phonon-induced incoherent rates on squeezing can be partially circumvented by properly adjusting the detunings.

Simultaneous control of optical dipole force and coherence creation by super-Gaussian femtosecond pulses in lambda-like atomic systems

We report a study on the optical dipole force on a beam of neutral three-level like atomic system induced by a femtosecond super-Gaussian pulse. We show that maximum coherence between the ground state |1> and the excited state |2> could be achieved using a train of femtosecond pulses. In addition, it is possible to control the trajectory of the atoms in an atomic beam by using the same scheme. The robustness of the scheme against the variation of the pulse parameters is also investigated.

Ultrafast and selective coherent population transfer in four-level atoms by a single frequency chirped few-cycle pulse

We report and propose a simple scheme to achieve the ultrafast and selective population transfer in four-level atoms by utilizing a single frequency chirped few-cycle pulse. It is demonstrated that the almost complete population may be transferred to the preselected state of atoms just by manipulating the so called chirp offset parameter. The robustness of the scheme against the variation of laser pulse parameters is also investigated. The proposed scheme may also be useful for the selective population transfer in molecules.

Frequency modulated few-cycle optical pulse trains induced controllable ultrafast coherent population oscillations in three-level atomic systems

We report a study on the ultrafast coherent population oscillations (UCPO) in two level atoms induced by the frequency modulated few-cycle optical pulse train. The phenomenon of UCPO is investigated by numerically solving the optical Bloch equations beyond the rotating wave approximation. We demonstrate that the quantum state of the atoms and the frequency of UCPO may be controlled by controlling the number of pulses in the pulse trains and the pulse repetition time respectively. Moreover, the robustness of the population inversion against the variation of the laser pulse parameters is also investigated. The proposed scheme may be useful for the creation of atoms in selected quantum state for desired time duration and may have potential applications in ultrafast optical switching.

Optical dipole force on ladder-like three-level atomic systems driven by chirped few-cycle-pulse laser fields

We report a study on the optical dipole force in a ladder like three level atomic systems in the context of coherent population transfer with the chirped few-cycle-pulse laser fields. The phenomenon of coherent population transfer is investigated by numerically solving the appropriate density matrix equations beyond the rotating wave approximation. On the other hand, optical dipole force is calculated by numerically solving the force equation and density matrix equations self-consistently. By analysing the centre-of-mass motion, it is shown that the optical dipole force with chirped pulses may be used for focusing and defocusing of atoms in an atomic beam similar to the near or non-resonant optical dipole force. Moreover, the robustness of the population transfer against the variation of the pulse parameters and the effect of the variation of the Rabi frequencies and the chirp rates on the optical dipole force are also investigated. The proposed scheme may open new perspectives in the focusing and de-focusing of atoms and molecules in an atomic beam, since this scheme mitigates the demand for the generation of transform-limited pulse laser fields at arbitrary frequencies.

Gaussian and sinc shaped few-cycle pulse driven ultrafast coherent population transfer in lambda- like atomic systems

We report and propose a simple scheme to achieve efficient and fast coherent population transfer (CPT) by utilizing either a nonlinearly chirped Gaussian shaped few-cycle laser pulse or an unchirped sinc-shaped few-cycle laser pulse. The proposed scheme is shown to be fairly robust against the variation of the laser parameters such as temporal pulse width, chirp rates, carrier envelope phases and Rabi frequencies. We find that compared to the so-called stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) technique, our scheme for complete population transfer with few-cycle Gaussian shaped laser pulses requires less pulse area.

Ultrafast and efficient coherence creation in {\Lambda}-like atomic systems driven by nonlinearly chirped few-cycle pulses

We report an ultrafast and efficient way to create the maximum coherence between the two lower states in a -like atomic systems, driven by two nonlinearly chirped few-cycle pulses. The phenomenon of coherent population trapping and electromagnetically induced population transfer are investigated by solving the appropriate density matrix equations without invoking the rotating wave approximation. The robustness of the scheme for maximum coherence against the variation of the laser parameters are tested numerically. We also demonstrate that the proposed scheme could be used to obtain complete population transfer to an initially empty ground state.

Optical Force on Two-level Atoms by Few-cycle Pulsed Gaussian Laser field beyond the Rotating Wave Approximation

We report a study on light force on a beam of neutral two-level atoms superimposed upon a few-cycle pulsed Gaussian laser field under both resonant and off-resonant condition. The phenomena of focusing, defocusing and steering of the neutral atoms in the laser field is analysed by solving the optical Bloch equation beyond the rotating wave approximation and the force equation self-consistently .We find that two-level atoms in an atomic beam could be focused and defocused for large, positively and negatively detuned interaction even in the regime of extreme nonlinear optics. The so-called optical potential may be used for stable trapping of the neutral two-level atoms for large positively detuned interaction. This work successfully reproduces some of the features reported in recent experimental and theoretical works.

Modulation Instability of Ultrashort Pulses in Quadratic Nonlinear Media beyond the Slowly Varying Envelope Approximation

We report a modulational instability (MI) analysis of a mathematical model appropriate for ultrashort pulses in cascaded quadratic-cubic nonlinear media beyond the so-called slowly varying envelope approximation. Theoretically predicted MI properties are found to be in good agreement with numerical simulation. The study shows the possibility of controlling the generation of MI and formation of solitons in a cascaded quadratic-cubic media in the few cycle regimes. We also find that stable propagation of soliton-like few-cycle pulses in the medium is subject to the fulfilment of the modulation instability criteria.
