Non-extendably shellable skeleta of simplices

We disprove a long-standing open conjecture due to Simon stating that all skeleta of simplices are extendably shellable. In particular, for every $d \geq 3$ we provide a pure $d$-dimensional shellable simplicial complex which is not shelling completable.

A weak Lehmer code for type $F_4$

We provide an algorithm to construct a multicomplex for any lower Bruhat interval of $F_4$, such that its rank--generating function equals that of the Bruhat interval. For Weyl groups, it is always possible to find such a multicomplex thanks to the work of Bj\"{o}rner and Ekedahl. The algorithm is based on only two functions, which weaken the notion of Lehmer code for finite Coxeter groups, motivated by the fact that a strong Lehmer code for type $F_4$ does not exist. We also realize the set of palindromic Poincar\'e polynomials of $F_4$ as an induced subposet of the Bruhat order that forms a lattice.

The Lehmer complex of a Bruhat interval

We introduce Lehmer codes, with immersions in the Bruhat order, for several finite Coxeter groups, including all the classical Weyl groups. This allows to associate to each lower Bruhat interval of these groups a multicomplex whose f-polynomial is the Poincar\'e polynomial of the interval. Via a general construction, we prove that these polynomials are h-polynomials of vertex-decomposable simplicial complexes. Moreover we provide a classification, in terms of unimodal permutations, of Poincar\'e polynomials of smooth Schubert varieties in flag manifolds.

Equivalence between invariance conjectures for parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials

We prove that the combinatorial invariance conjecture for parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, formulated by Mario Marietti, is equivalent to its restriction to maximal quotients. This equivalence lies at the other extreme in respect to the equivalence, recently proved by Barkley and Gaetz, with the invariance conjecture for Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, which turns out to be equivalent to the conjecture for maximal quotients.

Reflections and quotients in Coxeter groups

We present a formula relating the set of left descents of an element of a Coxeter group with the sets of left descents of its projections on maximal quotients indexed by simple right descents. This formula is an instance of a general result involving quotients and descents.

Linearly shellable complexes

We introduce the class of linearly shellable pure simplicial complexes. The characterizing property is the existence of a labeling of their vertices such that all linear extensions of the Bruhat order on the set of facets are shelling orders. Coxeter complexes of weak intervals and lower Bruhat intervals of parabolic right quotients, as type-selected Coxeter complexes of lower Bruhat intervals of parabolic left quotients, are proved to be linearly shellable. We also introduce the notion of linear strong shellability.

Linear extensions and shelling orders

We prove that linear extensions of the Bruhat order of a matroid are shelling orders and that the barycentric subdivision of a matroid is a Coxeter matroid, viewing barycentric subdivisions as subsets of a parabolic quotient of a symmetric group. A similar result holds for order ideals in minuscule quotients of symmetric groups and in their barycentric subdivisions. Moreover, we apply promotion and evacuation for labeled graphs of Malvenuto and Reutenauer to dual graphs of simplicial complexes, providing promotion and evacuation of shelling orders.

Wachs permutations, Bruhat order and weak order

We study the partial orders induced on Wachs and signed Wachs permutations by the Bruhat and weak orders of the symmetric and hyperoctahedral groups. We show that these orders are graded, determine their rank function, characterize their ordering and covering relations, and compute their characteristic polynomials, when partially ordered by Bruhat order, and determine their structure explicitly when partially ordered by right weak order.

Immanant varieties

We introduce immanant varieties, associated to simple characters of a finite group. They include well-studied classes of varieties, as Segre embeddings, Grassmannians and certain other classes of Chow varieties. For a one-dimensional character $\chi$, we define $\chi$-matroids by a maximality property. For trivial characters, by exploring the combinatorics of incidence stratifications, we provide a set of generators for the Chow vector spaces of the corresponding immanant varieties.

The intermediate orders of a Coxeter group

We define a class of partial orders on a Coxeter group associated with sets of reflections. In special cases, these lie between the left weak order and the Bruhat order. We prove that these posets are graded by the length function and that the projections on the right parabolic quotients are always order preserving. We also introduce the notion of $k$-Bruhat graph, $k$-absolute length and $k$-absolute order, proposing some related conjectures and problems.

Artin group injection in the Hecke algebra for right-angled groups

We prove some injectivity results: that a Coxeter monoid $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra (or $0$-Hecke algebra) injects in the incidence $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra of the corresponding Bruhat poset, for any Coxeter group; that the Hecke algebra of a right-angled Coxeter group injects in the Coxeter monoid $\mathbb{Z}[q,q^{-1}]$-algebra (and then in the incidence $\mathbb{Z}[q,q^{-1}]$-algebra of the corresponding Bruhat poset); that a right-angled Artin group injects in the group of invertible elements of the Hecke algebra of the corresponding Coxeter group (and then in the group of invertible elements of a Coxeter monoid algebra and in the one of an incidence algebra).

P-flag spaces and incidence stratifications

For any finite poset P we introduce a homogeneous space as a quotient of the general linear group with the incidence group of P. When P is a chain this quotient is a flag variety; for the trivial poset our construction gives a variety recently introduced in [20]. Moreover we provide decompositions for any set in a projective space, induced by the action of the incidence group of a suitable poset. In the classical cases of Grassmannians and flag varieties we recover, depending on the choice of the poset, the partition into Schubert cells and the matroid strata. Our general framework produces, for the homogeneous spaces corresponding to the trivial posets, a stratification by parking functions.

$p$-Jones-Wenzl idempotents

For a prime number $p$ and any natural number $n$ we introduce, by giving an explicit recursive formula, the $p$-Jones-Wenzl projector ${}^p\operatorname{JW}_n$, an element of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_n(2)$ with coefficients in ${\mathbb F}_p$. We prove that these projectors give the indecomposable objects in the $\tilde{A}_1$-Hecke category over ${\mathbb F}_p$, or equivalently, they give the projector in $\mathrm{End}_{\mathrm{SL}_2(\overline{{\mathbb F}_p})}(({\mathbb F}_p^2)^{\otimes n})$ to the top tilting module. The way in which we find these projectors is by categorifying the fractal appearing in the expression of the $p$-canonical basis in terms of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis for $\tilde{A}_1$.

Parabolically induced functions and equidistributed pairs

Given a function defined over a parabolic subgroup of a Coxeter group, equidistributed with the length, we give a procedure to construct a function over the entire group, equidistributed with the length. Such a procedure permits to define functions equidistributed with the length in all the finite Coxeter groups. We can establish our results in the general setting of graded posets which satisfy some properties. These results apply to some known functions arising in Coxeter groups as the major index, the negative major index and the D-negative major index defined in type $A$, $B$ and $D$ respectively.

The generalized lifting property of Bruhat intervlas

In [E. Tsukerman and L. Williams, {\em Bruhat Interval Polytopes}, Advances in Mathematics, 285 (2015), 766-810] it is shown that every Bruhat interval of the symmetric group satisfies the so-called generalized lifting property. In this paper we show that a Coxeter group satisfies this property if and only if it is finite and simply-laced.
