Small eigenvalues of pseudo-Laplacians

We extend the Otal-Rosas bound on the number of small eigenvalues of the Laplacian on a hyperbolic surface to the small eigenvalues of pseudo-Laplacians. In the process, we extend the work of Colin de Verdi\`ere on the spectral theory of pseudo-Laplacians to hyperbolic surfaces with more than one cusp.

On the spectral stability of finite coverings

We prove the non-existence of new eigenvalues in $[0,\Lambda]$ for specific and random finite coverings of a complete and connected Riemannian manifold $M$ with Ricci curvature bounded from below, where $\Lambda$ is any positive number below the essential spectrum of $M$ and the spectrum of the universal cover of $M$, provided the representation theory of the fundamental group of $M$ satisfies certain conditions.

Large Steklov eigenvalues under volume constraints

In this note we establish an expression for the Steklov spectrum of warped products in terms of auxiliary Steklov problems for drift Laplacians with weight induced by the warping factor. As an application, we show that a compact manifold with connected boundary diffeomorphic to a product admits a family of Riemannian metrics which coincide on the boundary, have fixed volume and arbitrarily large first non-zero Steklov eigenvalue. These are the first examples of Riemannian metrics with these properties on three-dimensional manifolds.

On the Spectrum of Certain Hadamard Manifolds

We show the absolute continuity of the spectrum and determine the spectrum as a set for two classes of Hadamard manifolds and for specific domains and quotients of one of the classes.

Normal covering spaces with maximal bottom of spectrum

We study the property of spectral-tightness of Riemannian manifolds, which means that the bottom of the spectrum of the Laplacian separates the universal covering space from any other normal covering space of a Riemannian manifold. We prove that spectral-tightness of a closed Riemannian manifold is a topological property characterized by its fundamental group. As an application, we show that a non-positively curved, closed Riemannian manifold is spectrally-tight if and only if the dimension of its Euclidean local de Rham factor is zero. In their general form, our results extend the state of the art results on the bottom of the spectrum under Riemannian coverings.

Bottom of spectra and coverings of orbifolds

We discuss the behaviour of the bottom of the spectrum of scalar Schrödinger operators under Riemannian coverings of orbifolds. We apply our results to geometrically finite and to conformally compact orbifolds.

On the Steklov spectrum of covering spaces and total spaces

We show the existence of a natural Dirichlet-to-Neumann map on Riemannian manifolds with boundary and bounded geometry, such that the bottom of the Dirichlet spectrum is positive. This map regarded as a densely defined operator in the $L^2$-space of the boundary admits Friedrichs extension. We focus on the spectrum of this operator on covering spaces and total spaces of Riemannian principal bundles over compact manifolds.

Spectral estimates for Riemannian submersions with fibers of basic mean curvature

For Riemannian submersions with fibers of basic mean curvature, we compare the spectrum of the total space with the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator on the base manifold. Exploiting this concept, we study submersions arising from actions of Lie groups. In this context, we extend the state of the art results on the bottom of the spectrum under Riemannian coverings. As an application, we compute the bottom of the spectrum and the Cheeger constant of connected, amenable Lie groups.

Spectral estimates and discreteness of spectra under Riemannian submersions

For Riemannian submersions, we establish some estimates for the spectrum of the total space in terms of the spectrum of the base space and the geometry of the fibers. In particular, for Riemannian submersions of complete manifolds with closed fibers of bounded mean curvature, we show that the spectrum of the base space is discrete if and only if the spectrum of the total space is discrete.

Positive harmonic functions on groups and covering spaces

We show that if $p \colon M \to N$ is a normal Riemannian covering, with $N$ closed, and $M$ has exponential volume growth, then there are non-constant, positive harmonic functions on $M$. This was conjectured by Lyons and Sullivan in \cite{LS}.
