Light-Front Transverse Nucleon Charge and Magnetisation Densities

Nucleon elastic electromagnetic form factors obtained using both the three-body and quark + fully-interacting-diquark pictures of nucleon structure are employed to calculate an array of light-front transverse densities for the proton and neutron and their dressed valence-quark constituents, viz. flavour separations of the proton and neutron results. These two complementary descriptions of nucleon structure deliver mutually compatible predictions, which match expectations based on modern parametrisations of available data, where such are available. Amongst other things, it is found that transverse-plane valence $u$- and $d$-quark Dirac radii are practically indistinguishable; but regarding kindred Pauli radii, the $d$ quark value is roughly 10% greater than that of the $u$-quark. Moreover, magnetically, the valence $d$ quark is far more active than the valence $u$ quark, probably because it has much greater orbital angular momentum. Both pictures of nucleon structure agree in predicting that, in a polarised nucleon, the transverse-plane charge densities are no longer rotationally invariant. Instead, for a $+\hat x$ polarised nucleon, positive charge is displaced in the $+\hat y$ direction, with the opposite effect for negative charge.

Policy-Guided MCTS for near Maximum-Likelihood Decoding of Short Codes

In this paper, we propose a policy-guided Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) decoder that achieves near maximum-likelihood decoding (MLD) performance for short block codes. The MCTS decoder searches for test error patterns (TEPs) in the received information bits and obtains codeword candidates through re-encoding. The TEP search is executed on a tree structure, guided by a neural network policy trained via MCTS-based learning. The trained policy guides the decoder to find the correct TEPs with minimal steps from the root node (all-zero TEP). The decoder outputs the codeword with maximum likelihood when the early stopping criterion is satisfied. The proposed method requires no Gaussian elimination (GE) compared to ordered statistics decoding (OSD) and can reduce search complexity by 95\% compared to non-GE OSD. It achieves lower decoding latency than both OSD and non-GE OSD at high SNRs.

The CCOR Compact Coronagraphs for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-19 (GOES-19) and the Space Weather Follow On (SWFO) Missions

The CCOR Compact Coronagraph is a series of two operational solar coronagraphs sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They were designed, built, and tested by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The CCORs will be used by NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center to detect and track Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and predict the Space Weather. CCOR-1 is on board the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite -U (GOES-U, now GOES-19/GOES-East). GOES-U was launched from Kennedy Space Flight Center, Florida, on 25 June 2024. CCOR-2 is on board the Space Weather Follow On at Lagrange point 1 (SWFO-L1). SWFO-L1 is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2025. SWFO will be renamed SOLAR-1 once it reaches L1. The CCORs are white-light coronagraphs that have a field of view and performance similar to the SOHO LASCO C3 coronagraph. CCOR-1 FOV spans from 4 to 22 Rsun, while CCOR-2 spans from 3.5 to 26 Rsun. The spatial resolution is 39 arcsec for CCOR-1 and 65 arcsec for CCOR-2. They both operate in a band-pass of 470 - 740 nm. The synoptic cadence is 15 min and the latency from image capture to the forecaster on the ground is less than 30 min. Compared to past generation coronagraphs such as the Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO), CCOR uses a compact design; all the solar occultation is done with a single multi-disk external occulter. No internal occulter is used. This allowed a substantial reduction in size and mass compared to SECCHI COR-2, for example, but with slightly lower signal-to-noise ratio. In this article, we review the science that the CCORs will capitalize on for the purpose of operational space weather prediction. We give a description of the driving requirements and accommodations, and provide details on the instrument design. In the end, information on ground processing and data levels is provided.

Crystal growth, structure and physical properties of quasi-one-dimensional tellurides Fe$_{4-x}$VTe$_{4-y}$ ($x=1.01$, $y=0.74$) and V$_{4.64}$Te$_4$

A new ternary compound Fe$_{4-x}$VTe$_{4-y}$ ($x=1.01$, $y=0.74$) with Ti5Te4-type structure is identified. Fe and V atoms tend to occupy different crystallographic positions and form quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) Fe-V chains along the c-axis. Millimeter-sized single crystal of Fe$_{2.99}$VTe$_{3.26}$ (FVT) with slender-stick shape could be grown by chemical vapor transport method which reflects its quasi-1D crystal structure. Magnetization measurements reveal that FVT orders antiferromagnetically below T$_N$=93 K with strong easy ab-plane magnetic anisotropy. Although a weak glassy-like behavior appears below 10 K, FVT is dominant by long-range antiferromagnetic order in contrast to the spin-glass state in previously reported isostructural Fe$_{5}$Te$_{4}$. We also synthesize V$_{4.64}$Te$_4$ with similar quasi-1D V-chains and find it has weak anomalies at 144 K on both resistivity and susceptibility curves. However, no clear evidence is found for the development of magnetic or charge order. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Curie-Weiss fit reveal that the effective moments for Fe$^{2+}$ and V$^{4+}$ in both compounds have large deviations from the conventional local moment model, which may possibly result from the formation of Fe/V metal-metal bondings. Furthermore the resistivity of both FVT and V$_{4.64}$Te$_4$ exhibits semiconducting-like temperature-dependent behavior but with average values close to typical bad metals, which resembles the transport behavior in the normal state of Fe-based superconductors. These quasi-1D compounds have shown interesting physical properties for future condensed matter physics research.

Critical Behavior of the SDW Transition in Underdoped Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 (x <=0.05): 75As NMR Investigation

We investigate the nature of the SDW (Spin Density Wave) transition in the underdoped regime of an iron-based high Tc superconductor Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 by 75As NMR, with primary focus on a composition with x = 0.02 (T_SDW = 99 K).We demonstrate that critical slowing down toward the three dimensional SDW transition sets in at the tetragonal to orthorhombic structural phase transition, Ts = 105 K, suggesting strong interplay between structural distortion and spin correlations. In the critical regime between Ts and T_SDW, the dynamical structure factor of electron spins S(q,Wn) measured with the longitudinal NMR relaxation rate 1/T1 exhibits a divergent behavior obeying a power law, 1/T1~S(q, Wn)~(T/T_SDW-1)^a with the critical exponent a ~ 0.33.

Evolution of Anisotropic In-plane Resistivity with doping level in Ca$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ Single Crystals

We measured the in-plane resistivity anisotropy in the underdoped Ca$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals. The anisotropy (indicated by $\rho_{\rm b} - \rho_{\rm a}$) appears below a temperature well above magnetic transition temperature $T_{\rm N}$, being positive ($\rho_{\rm b} - \rho_{\rm a} > 0$) as $x\leq$ 0.14. With increasing the doping level to $x$ = 0.19, an intersection between $\rho_{\rm b}$ and $\rho_{\rm a}$ is observed upon cooling, with $\rho_{\rm b} - \rho_{\rm a} < 0$ at low-temperature deep inside a magnetically ordered state, while $\rho_{\rm b} - \rho_{\rm a}> 0$ at high temperature. Subsequently, further increase of hole concentration leads to a negative anisotropy $\rho_{\rm b} - \rho_{\rm a} < 0$ in the whole temperature range. These results manifest that the anisotropic behavior of resistivity in the magnetically ordered state depends strongly on the competition of the contributions from different mechanisms, and the competition between the two contributions results in a complicated evolution of the anisotropy of in-plane resistivity with doping level.

Phase diagram and physical properties of NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As single crystals

A series of high quality NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As single crystals has been grown by a self-flux technique, which were systematically characterized via structural, transport, thermodynamic, and high pressure measurements. Both the structural and magnetic transitions are suppressed by Cu doping, and bulk superconductivity is induced by Cu doping. Superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) is initially enhanced from 9.6 to 11.5 K by Cu doping, and then suppressed with further doping. A phase diagram similar to NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As is obtained except that insulating instead of metallic behavior is observed in extremely overdoped samples. $T_c$'s of underdoped, optimally doped, and overdoped samples are all notably enhanced by applying pressure. Although a universal maximum transition temperature ($T_c^{max}$) of about 31 K under external pressure is observed in underdoped and optimally doped NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As, $T_c^{max}$ of NaFe$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$As is monotonously suppressed by Cu doping, suggesting that impurity potential of Cu is stronger than Co in NaFeAs. The comparison between Cu and Co doping effect in NaFeAs indicates that Cu serves as an effective electron dopant with strong impurity potential, but part of the doped electrons are localized and do not fill the energy bands as predicted by the rigid-band model.

Calorimetric study in single crystal of CsFe$_2$As$_2$

We measured resistivity and specific heat of high-quality CsFe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals, which were grown by using a self-flux method. The CsFe$_2$As$_2$ crystal shows sharp superconducting transition at 1.8 K with the transition width of 0.1 K. The sharp superconducting transition and pronounced jump in specific heat indicate high quality of the crystals. Analysis on the superconducting-state specific heat supports unconventional pairing symmetry in CsFe$_2$As$_2$.

Physical properties in hole-doped SrFe$_{2-x}$Cu$_x$As$_2$ single crystals

We report the structural, magnetic and electronic transport properties of SrFe$_{2-x}$Cu$_x$As$_2$ single crystals grown by self-flux technique. SrCu$_2$As$_2$ and SrFe$_2$As$_2$ both crystallize in ThCr$_2$Si$_2$-type (122-type) structure at room temperature, but exhibit distinct magnetic and electronic transport properties. The x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) Cu-2p core line position, resistivity, susceptibility and positive Hall coefficient indicate that SrCu$_2$As$_2$ is an sp-band metal with Cu in the 3d$^{10}$ electronic configuration corresponding to the valence state Cu$^{1+}$. The almost unchanged Cu-2p core line position in SrFe$_{2-x}$Cu$_x$As$_2$ compared with SrCu$_2$As$_2$ indicates that partial Cu substitutions for Fe in SrFe$_2$As$_2$ may result in hole doping rather than the expected electron doping. No superconductivity is induced by Cu substitution on Fe sites, even though the structural/spin density wave(SDW) transition is gradually suppressed with increasing Cu doping.

Pressure effects on superconducting properties of single-crystalline Co doped NaFeAs

Resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements under external pressure were performed on single-crystals NaFe1-xCoxAs (x=0, 0.01, 0.028, 0.075, 0.109). The maximum Tc enhanced by pressure in both underdoped and optimally doped NaFe1-xCoxAs is the same, as high as 31 K. The overdoped sample with x = 0.075 also shows a positive pressure effect on Tc, and an enhancement of Tc by 13 K is achieved under pressure of 2.3 GPa. All the superconducting samples show large positive pressure coefficient on superconductivity, being different from Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2. However, the superconductivity cannot be induced by pressure in heavily overdoped non-superconducting NaFe0.891Co0.109As. These results provide evidence for that the electronic structure is much different between superconducting and heavily overdoped non-superconducting NaFe1-xCoxAs, being consistent with the observation by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.

A crossover in phase diagram of NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As determined by electronic transport measurements

We report electronic transport measurements on single crystals of NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As system. We found that the cotangent of Hall angle, cot$\theta_{\rm H}$, follows $T^4$ for the parent compound with filamentary superconductivity and $T^2$ for the heavily-overdoped non-superconducting sample. While it exhibits approximately $T^3$-dependence in all the superconducting samples, suggesting this behaivor is associated with bulk superconductivity in ferropnictides. A deviation develops below a characteristic temperature $T^*$ well above the structural and superconducting transitions, accompanied by a departure from power-law temperature dependence in resistivity. The doping dependence of $T^*$ resembles the crossover line of pseudogap phase in cuprates.

Anomalous impurity effects in the iron-based superconductor KFe$_2$As$_2$

High-quality K(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ single crystals have been grown by using KAs flux method. Instead of increasing the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ through electron doping, we find that Co impurities rapidly suppress $T_{\rm c}$ down to zero at only $x \approx$ 0.04. Such an effective suppression of $T_{\rm c}$ by impurities is quite different from that observed in Ba$_{0.5}$K$_{0.5}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ with multiple nodeless superconducting gaps. Thermal conductivity measurements in zero field show that the residual linear term $\kappa_0/T$ only change slightly with $3.4\%$ Co doping, despite the sharp increase of scattering rate. The implications of these anomalous impurity effects are discussed.

Phase Diagram and Calorimetric Properties of NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As

We measured the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility to map out the phase diagram of single crystalline NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As. Replacement of Fe by Co suppresses both the structural and magnetic transition, while enhances the superconducting transition temperature ($T_{\rm c}$) and superconducting component fraction. Magnetic susceptibility exhibits temperature-linear dependence in the high temperatures up to 500 K for all the superconducting samples, but such behavior suddenly breaks down for the non-superconducting overdoped crystal, suggesting that the superconductivity is closely related to the T-linear dependence of susceptibility. Analysis on the superconducting-state specific heat for the optimally doped crystal provides strong evidence for a two-band s-wave order parameter with gap amplitudes of $\Delta_1(0)/k_{\rm B}T_{\rm c}$= 1.78 and $\Delta_2(0)/k_{\rm B}T_{\rm c}$=3.11, being consistent with the nodeless gap symmetry revealed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiment.

Metamagnetic transition in Ca$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$Co$_2$As$_2$($x$ = 0 and 0.1) single crystals

We report the magnetism and transport measurements of CaCo$_2$As$_2$ and Ca$_{0.9}$Sr$_{0.1}$Co$_2$As$_2$ single crystals. Antiferromagnetic transition was observed at about 70 K and 90 K for CaCo$_2$As$_2$ and Ca$_{0.9}$Sr$_{0.1}$Co$_2$As$_2$, respectively. Magnetism and magnetoresistance measurements reveal metamagnetic transition from an antiferromagnetic state to a ferromagnetic state with the critical field of 3.5 T and 1.5 T respectively along c-axis for these two materials at low temperature. For the field along ab-plane, spins can also be fully polarized above the field of 4.5 T for Ca$_{0.9}$Sr$_{0.1}$Co$_2$As$_2$. While for CaCo$_2$As$_2$, spins can not be fully polarized up to 7 T. We proposed the cobalt moments of these two materials should be ordered ferromagnetically within the ab-plane but antiferromagnetically along the c-axis(A-type AFM).

Enhanced Superconductivity by Rare-earth Metal-doping in Phenanthrene

We successfully synthesized La- and Sm-doped phenanthrene powder samples and discovered superconductivity at $T_{\rm c}$ around 6 K in them. The $T_{\rm c}$s are 6.1 K for LaPhenanthrene and 6.0 K for SmPhenanthrene, which are enhanced by about 1 K and 0.5 K compared to those in $A_3$Phenanthrene ($A$=K and Rb) and in $Ae_{1.5}$Phenanthrene ($Ae$ = Sr and Ba) superconductors respectively. The superconductive shielding fractions for LaPhenanthrene and SmPhenanthrene are 46.1%$ and 49.8$%$ at 2 K, respectively. The little effect of the doping of the magnetic ion Sm$^{3+}$ on $T_c$ and the positive pressure dependence coefficient on $T_{\rm c}$ strongly suggests unconventional superconductivity in the doped phenanthrene superconductors. The charge transfer to organic molecules from dopants of La and Sm induces a redshift of 7 cm$^{-1}$ per electron for the mode at 1441 cm$^{-1}$ in the Raman spectra, which is almost the same as those observed in $A_3$Phenanthrene ($A$=K and Rb) and $Ae_{1.5}$Phenanthrene ($Ae$ = Sr and Ba) superconductors.

Transport Properties and Electronic Phase Diagram of Single-Crystalline Ca$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$) ((Fe$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$)$_2$As$_2$)$_5$

Sizable single-crystalline samples of Ca$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$)((Fe$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$)$_2$As$_2$)$_5$ (the 10-3-8 phase) with 0$\leq x<$0.1 have been grown and systematically characterized via X-Ray diffraction, magnetic, and transport measurements. The undoped sample is a heavily doped semiconductor with no sign of magnetic order down to 2 K. With increasing Pt content, the metallic behavior appears and superconductivity is realized for $x\geq$0.023. $T_{\rm c}$ rises to its maximum of approximately 13.6 K at the doping level of $x\sim$0.06, and then decreases for higher $x$ values. The electronic phase diagram of the 10-3-8 phase was mapped out based on the transport measurements. The mass anisotropy parameter $\Gamma\sim$10 obtained from resistive measurements in magnetic fields indicates a relatively large anisotropy in the iron-based superconductor family. This strong 2D character may lead to the absence of magnetic order. A linear $T$-dependence of susceptibility at high temperature is observed, indicating that spin fluctuations exist in the underdoped region as in most of the Fe-pnictide superconductors.

Transport and magnetic properties of La-doped CaFe$_2$As$_2$

We measured the transport properties and susceptibility of single crystals Ca$_{1-x}$La$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$(x=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.19 and 0.25). Large in-plane resistivity anisotropy similar to that in Co-doped 122 iron-pnictides is observed although no transition metals were introduced in the FeAs-plane. The in-plane resistivity anisotropy gradually increases with La doping below T$_{SDW}$, being different from the hole-doped 122 superconductors. The susceptibilities of the samples show that La doping leads to suppression of SDW and induces a Curie-Weiss-like behavior at low temperature, which is much stronger than the other 122 iron-based superconductors.

Phase diagram as a function of doping level and pressure in Eu$_{1-x}$La$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ system

We establish the phase diagram of Eu$_{1-x}$La$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ system as a function of doping level x and the pressure by measuring the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility. The pressure can suppress the spin density wave (SDW) and structural transition very efficiently, while enhance the antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition temperature T$_N$ of Eu$^{2+}$. The superconductivity coexists with SDW order at the low pressure, while always coexists with the Eu$^{2+}$ AFM order. The results suggests that Eu$^{2+}$ spin dynamics is disentangeld with superconducting (SC) pairing taken place in the two-dimensional \emph{Fe-As} plane, but it can strongly affect superconducting coherence along c-axis.
