Holomorphic projective connections on surfaces and osculating spaces

We study complex analytic projective connections on surfaces in projective n-spaces in terms of the "second" neighborhood of the surface in the ambient space, and in terms of the osculating behavior of the integral curves. We also investigate the action of a remarkable rational transformation on projective connections, and give the geometrical interpretation of joint invariants of a group closely related to the study of equivalence classes of projective connections on surfaces.

The Birkhoff-Grothendieck theorem

We give a historical presentation of the Grothendieck theorem on the splitting of vector bundles over the Riemann sphere, and explore some of its links with the Riemann-Hilbert-Birkhoff problems and the Birkhoff factorization theorem.

Some remarkable autonomous systems

We study the links of the Darboux-Halphen-Ramanujan system, with contact geometry, canonical coordinates of some $3$-dimensional Frobenius manifolds and projective connections on Riemann surfaces. One of our important goals is to highlight the role of contact geometry in this setting. We also study autonomous systems "derived" from the potential given by the Group-determinant, of any cyclic group $\Z/n\Z$, $n\geqslant3$, and the Klein group $\Z/2\Z\times\Z/2\Z$.

Representation Theory and Differential Equations

We study the geometry and partial differential equations arising from the consideration of group-determinants, and representation theory. The simplest and most striking such example is undoubtedly that of the Humbert operator, associated with the cyclic group Z/3Z. This operator appears as a natural extension of the Laplacian in dimension 2. Another originality of our work is to show that the spectral theory of operators associated with Frobenius determinants is closely linked to finite Fourier transform theory.

Geometric Methods in Partial Differential Equations

We study the interplay between geometry and partial differential equations. We show how the fundamental ideas we use require the ability to correctly calculate the dimensions of spaces associated to the varieties of zeros of the symbols of those differential equations. This brings to the center of the analysis several classical results from algebraic geometry, including the Cayley-Bacharach theorem and some of its variants as Serret's theorem, and the Brill-Noether Restsatz theorem.

Frobenius determinants and Bessel Functions

We study the geometry and partial differential equations arising from the consideration of Frobenius determinants, also called-group-determinants. This leads us to address some aspects of twistor theory as well as some extensions of Bessel functions.

Holomorphic projective connections on surfaces

We study complex analytic (possibly singular) projective connections on the plane. We characterize some of them in terms of their families of integral curves. We also give a beginning of classification of second order odes polynomial in the first and second derivatives, and with holomorphic coefficients.

Affine geometry of second order ODEs

We apply the Cartan equivalence method to the study of real analytic second order ODEs under the local real analytic diffeomorphism of $\C^2$ which are area-preserving. This enables us to give a characterization of the second order ODEs which are equivalent to $y^{\prime\prime}=0$ under such transformations. Moreover we associate to certain of these second order ODEs which satisfy an invariant condition given by the vanishing of a relative differential invariant, an affine normal Cartan connection on the first jet space whose curvature contains all the area-preserving relative differential invariants.
