Inelastic $B-L$ scalar dark matter and the LUX-ZEPLIN event

We show that our previously proposed inelastic scalar dark matter (DM) model in gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry naturally accounts for the $2.6\sigma$ high-energy recoil event recently reported by the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) collaboration. To satisfy the thermal relic abundance, TeV-scale scalar DM $S$ with $m_S \simeq m_{Z'}/2$ for resonant annihilation and the gauge coupling constant $g_{B-L} \sim 0.5$ are required, where $m_{Z^\prime}$ is the mass of $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson $Z^{\prime}$. The resulting predicted DM-nucleon inelastic cross section of $\sigma_\mathrm{SI} \sim 10^{-45}$ cm${}^2$ is in excellent agreement with the LZ event. This scenario can be decisively tested for future collider searches for $Z^\prime$ boson resonance.

Stochastic gravitational wave spectrum from cosmic string emitting gauge bosons and Majorana fermions

The effect of particle radiation on the spectrum of the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) from cosmic strings is studied. We consider cosmic strings in an Abelian-Higgs model coupling with Majorana fermion whose mass is generated by the Higgs field, motivated by a gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ model, in which the Majorana fermions are identified with right-handed neutrinos. Taking the energy loss by particle radiation into account, we evaluate the resultant SGWB spectrum and demonstrate the emergence of very high frequency cutoff due to the particle radiation.

Dark photon and U(1)$_{B-L}$ gauge boson from dark Higgs boson decays at FASER and SHiP

We study the sensitivity to dark photons and U(1)$_{B-L}$ gauge bosons produced via dark Higgs boson decays at the FASER and SHiP experiments. In addition to pair production of these vector bosons from both on-shell and off-shell dark Higgs boson decays, a new production process of single vector boson associated with the standard model particles is taken into account. Constraints on the parameter space of dark photon are derived with including the latest results from the FASER experiment. The expected sensitivity regions to the dark photon and U(1)$_{B-L}$ gauge boson of the future FASER2 and SHiP experiments are presented. The sensitivity to the U(1)$_{B-L}$ model with freeze-in sterile neutrino dark matter is also discussed.

Renormalization Group Running of the Minimal Leptophilic Dark Matter Model toward a UV Completion

We study the renormalization group running of the coupling constants in a minimal leptophilic dark matter model in which a Standard Model singlet fermion, acting as the dark matter (DM) candidate, couples exclusively to right-handed charged leptons via a new charged scalar mediator. Reproduction of the observed thermal relic abundance of the DM candidate requires sizable Yukawa couplings, and such sizable Yukawa couplings can significantly affect the renormalization group evolution of the model parameters. We examine the conditions that the model remains perturbative and the vacuum stability is maintained up to high-energy scales. We find that the parameter space is severely constrained to ensure the perturbativity and the vacuum stability up to the Planck scale. In particular, the masses of the dark matter and the charged scalar mediator should be smaller than about 350 GeV and can be tested by future collider experiments. The lower bound of the dark matter mass that is larger than a few GeV is also obtained by perturbativity.

Constraints on the varying electron mass and early dark energy in light of ACT DR6 and DESI DR2 and the implications for inflation

Primarily motivated by the Hubble tension, we analyze the varying electron mass model and axionlike early dark energy model (EDE) using baryon acoustic oscillation data from DESI DR2 data and including the recent results from ACT DR6. Our analysis indicates that $m_{e} / m_{e0} = 1.0081 \pm 0.0046 $ and the energy fraction of EDE is constrained as $f_\mathrm{EDE} < 0.016$. Since those cosmological models fit with different spectral index $n_s$, we show the posterior of those models on the ($n_s-r$) plane and point out that, for example, Starobinsky inflation works for varying electron mass model while the standard supersymmetric hybrid inflation is preferred in the EDE model.

Smooth hybrid inflation in light of ACT DR6 data

Smooth hybrid inflation is a hybrid inflation model which is free from topological defects and predicts the density perturbation with the spectral index of about $0.97$. We show that the prediction on the spectral index is robust regardless the power of nonrenormalizable terms and meets with the latest results reported by Atacama Cosmology Telescope. Viable scenarios for baryogenesis and dark matter are also discussed.

New rare meson decay constraints on a light vector in $U(1)_{B-L}, U(1)_R$ and the dark photon

We evaluate constraints from flavor changing rare meson decays to a light vector boson $X$, followed by the decay of the on-shell $X$ into the SM fermions. The flavor changing meson decay emitting the light $X$ is induced by loop processes where the up-type quarks, the $W$ boson, or charged scalar bosons are running inside loops. We calculate all one-loop diagrams with neglecting all masses of light quarks except for the top quark in a general anomaly free extra $U(1)$ model. Our theoretical evaluation of the branching ratio of charged $B$ meson decay and charged kaon decay is compared to experimental results, and we derive new constraints for dark photon, $U(1)_{B-L}$ and $U(1)_R$ models.

Constraints on the simultaneous variation of the fine structure constant and electron mass in light of DESI BAO data

We study the cosmological constraints of the time variation of the electron mass $m_e$ and the fine-structure constant $\alpha$, using data of cosmic microwave background, supernovae light curve and baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) data including the recent DESI BAO DR2 measurements. The results are slightly depending on the BAO data set included in the analysis. The latest DESI BAO DR2 data strongly indicates that $m_e$ or $\alpha$ is slightly larger than the previous data from 6DF+SDSS and DESI BAO DR1. We also compare the varying $m_e$ model, the varying $\alpha$ model, and the simultaneous variation of $m_e$ and $\alpha$. When considering the Hubble tension, a larger electron mass is the most promising option and the variation of the fine-structure constants does not alleviate the tension.

Redshift-space distortion constraints on the neutrino mass and models to alleviate the Hubble tension

We discuss the neutrino mass and Hubble tension solutions and examine their effects on the redshift-space distortion (RSD) observations. An analysis with RSD data indicates smaller amplitude of perturbation. Including RSD data results in a slightly weaker upper limit on the neutrino mass than that derived for data without RSD, which is common in other extended models too. We have evaluated the impacts of RSD observations on some extended models, including the varying electron mass model, a time-dependent dark energy model with two parameter equations of state (EOS), and a model where the number of neutrino species is free. When we estimate the cosmological parameters for data including RSD, we found that the EOS parameter for dark energy is larger than that of the cosmological constant, and the effective number of neutrino species is smaller than the standard value, which infers a smaller present Hubble parameter $H_0$. From the viewpoint of cosmological tensions, the varying electron mass model with nonzero neutrino mass option looks promising to relax the Hubble tension and the $S_8$ tension simultaneously.

Discovery potential of a long-lived partner of inelastic dark matter at MATHUSLA in $U(1)_{X_3}$ extension of the standard model

We investigate the discovery potential at the MATHUSLA experiment of a long-lived particle (LLP), which is the heavier state of inelastic scalar dark matter (DM) in third generation-philic $U(1)$ ($U(1)_{X_3}$) extension of the standard model. Since the heavier state and DM state form the complex scalar charged under the $U(1)_{X_3}$, it is natural that the heavier state $P$ is almost degenerate with the DM state and hence long-lived. We find that third generation-philic right-handed $U(1)$, $U(1)_{R_3}$, model is the most interesting, because third generation-philic models are less constrained by the current experimental results and right-handed $U(1)$ interactions leave visible final decay products without produing neutrinos. For a benchmark of the model parameters consistent with the current phenomenological constraints, we find that the travel distance of the LLP can be $\mathcal{O}(100)$ m and the LLP production cross section at the 14 TeV LHC can be $\mathcal{O}(10)$ fb. Thus, we conclude that the LLP can be discovered at the MATHUSLA with a sufficiently large number of LLP decay events inside the MATHUSLA detector.

Stable dark matter from Pauli blocking in the degenerate fermion background with Quantum Field Theory

We study a mechanism to make dark matter stable based on the Pauli blocking in the fermion background. In the background where fermions occupy the states, the decay of dark matter to those final states is not allowed, as a result, DM becomes stable. We derive the evolution equations of the distribution function in the quantum field theory and compare it with the Boltzmann equation. We apply this mechanism to a realistic model of neutrino and dark matter.

DESI constraints on the varying electron mass model and axion-like early dark energy

Baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) is one of the important standard rulers in cosmology. The results of the latest BAO measurements by Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey have been reported. Cosmology with the varying electron mass model and the early dark energy models are regarded as interesting models to resolve the Hubble tension. We present constraints on the varying electron mass model and early dark energy models in new DESI data as well as cosmic microwave background by Planck and the conventional BAO data from 6dF, MGS, and DR12 and supernovae light curve data into analysis. Since new DESI BAO data indicate a slightly longer sound horizon $r_dh$ than the other BAO observations, for the varying electron mass model, the larger $H_0 =69.44\pm 0.84 $ km$/$s$/$Mpc is indicated.

Freeze-in sterile neutrino dark matter in a feebly gauged $B-L$ model

We consider the gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ model and examine the situation where the sterile neutrino is a dark matter candidate produced by the freeze-in mechanism. In our model, the dark matter $N$ is mainly produced by the decay of a $U(1)_{B-L}$ breaking scalar boson $\phi$. We point out that the on-shell production of $\phi$ through annihilation of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson $Z'$ plays an important role. We find that the single production of $Z'$ from the gluon bath in the early Universe can become the main production modes for $Z'$ in some parameter regions. To prevent $N$ from being overproduced, we show that the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge coupling constant $g_{B-L}$ must be as small as $10^{-16}$--$10^{-10}$. We also consider the case where the decay of $\phi$ into $N$ is kinematically forbidden. In this case, $N$ is generated by the scattering of $Z'$ and the $g_{B-L}$ takes values of $10^{-10}$--$10^{-6}$, which can be explored in collider experiments like FASER and SHiP.

Constraints on sterile neutrinos and the cosmological tensions

We investigate cosmological bounds on sterile neutrino masses in the light of the Hubble and $S_8$ tensions. We argue that non-zero masses for sterile neutrinos are inferred at 2$\sigma$ level in some extended models such as varying dark energy equation of state, when a direct measurement of the Hubble constant $H_0$ and weak lensing measurement of dark energy survey (DES) are taken into account. Furthermore, the Hubble and $S_8$ tensions are also reduced in such a framework. We also consider the case where a non-flat Universe is allowed and show that a slightly open Universe may be favored in models with sterile neutrinos in the context of the cosmological tensions.

Intergenerational gauged $B-L$ model and its implication to muon $g-2$ anomaly and thermal dark matter

We study the flavor dependent $U(1)_{B_i-L_j}$ models, where an $i$th generation of quarks and $j(\neq i)$th generation of leptons are charged. By solving the anomaly free condition for the matter sector of the SM fermions and three generations of right-handed (RH) neutrinos, we find that the $j$th generation of RH neutrino is not necessarily charged under the $U(1)_{B_i-L_j}$ gauge symmetry with the charge $-1$ and the other (neither $i$th nor $j$th) generation of RH neutrino can also be. As a general solution for the anomaly cancellation conditions, the other two RN neutrinos than the charge $-1$ RH neutrino may have non-vanishing charge and be stable due to the gauge invariance, and hence it is a candidate for dark matter (DM) in our Universe. We apply this result to a $B_3-L_2$ model and consider a light thermal DM and a solution to the muon $g-2$ anomaly. We identify the parameter region to have the DM mass range from MeV to sub-GeV and simultaneously solve the muon $g-2$ anomaly. We also derive the constraints on the gauge kinetic mixing parameter by using the latest Borexino phase-II data.

Probing for chiral $Z^\prime$ gauge boson through scattering measurement experiments

Motivated by the observation of tiny neutrino mass can not be explained within the framework of Standard Model (SM), we consider extra gauge extended scenarios in which tiny neutrino masses are generated through seesaw mechanism. These scenarios are equipped with beyond the standard model (BSM) neutral gauge boson called $Z^\prime$ in the general $U(1)_X$ symmetry which is a linear combination of $U(1)_Y$ and $U(1)_{B-L}$. In this case, left and right handed fermions interact differently with the $Z^\prime$. The $Z^\prime$ gives rise to different processes involving neutrino-nucleon, neutrino-electron, electron-nucleus and electron-muon scattering processes. By comparing with proton, electron beam-dump experiments data, recast data from searches for the long-lived and dark photon at BaBaR, LHCb and CMS experiments, the electron and muon $g-2$ data, and the data of the dilepton and dijet searches at the LEP experiment, we derive bounds on the gauge coupling and the corresponding gauge boson mass for different $U(1)_X$ charges and evaluate the prospective limits from the future beam-dump scenarios at DUNE, FASER(2) and ILC. We conclude that large parameter regions could be probed by scattering, beam-dump and collider experiments in future.

Variation of the fine structure constant in the light of recent helium abundance measurement

We point out that the recent result of primordial helium-4 ($^4$He) abundance measurement by EMPRESS, which has reported a smaller $^4$He abundance than other measurements, can be well fitted by assuming a time-variation of the fine structure constant $\alpha$ which is slightly smaller than the present value during big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We find that the EMPRESS result in combination with deuterium abundance measurement indicates $-2.6\% <\Delta\alpha/\alpha <-1.4 \%$ (68\% C.L.) where $\Delta \alpha$ is the difference between the values of $\alpha$ at the BBN and present epochs, while $-1.2\% <\Delta\alpha/\alpha <0.4 \%$ (68\% C.L.) is obtained from other previous $^4$He abundance data. We also investigate its effects in the framework where the effective number of neutrino species and the lepton asymmetry, which are other typical interpretations of the EMPRESS result, are allowed to vary. Once a smaller $\alpha$ is adopted, the EMPRESS result can be explained without assuming any non-standard values for the effective number of neutrino species and lepton asymmetry.

Light cold dark matter from non-thermal decay

We investigate the mass range and the corresponding free-streaming length scale of dark matter produced non-thermally from decay of heavy objects which can be either dominant or sub-dominant at the moment of decay. We show that the resulting dark matter could be very light well below keV scale with a free-streaming length satisfying the Lyman-{\alpha} constraints. We demonstrate two explicit examples for such light cold dark matter.
