Highly efficient acousto-optic modulation using nonsuspended thin-film lithium niobate-chalcogenide hybrid waveguides

A highly efficient on-chip acousto-optic modulator, as a key component, occupies an exceptional position in microwave-to-optical conversion. Homogeneous thin-film lithium niobate is preferentially employed to build the suspended configuration forming the acoustic resonant cavity to improve the modulation efficiency of the device. However, the limited cavity length and complex fabrication recipe of the suspended prototype restrain further breakthrough in the modulation efficiency and impose challenges for waveguide fabrication. In this work, based on a nonsuspended thin-film lithium niobate-chalcogenide glass hybrid Mach-Zehnder interferometer waveguide platform, we propose and demonstrate a built-in push-pull acousto-optic modulator with a half-wave-voltage-length product as low as 0.03 V cm, presenting a modulation efficiency comparable to that of the state-of-the-art suspended counterpart. Based on the advantage of low power consumption, a microwave modulation link is demonstrated using our developed built-in push-pull acousto-optic modulator. The nontrivial acousto-optic modulation performance benefits from the superior photoelastic property of the chalcogenide membrane and the completely bidirectional participation of the antisymmetric Rayleigh surface acoustic wave mode excited by the impedance-matched interdigital transducer, overcoming the issue of amplitude differences of surface acoustic waves applied to the Mach-Zehnder interferometer two arms in traditional push-pull acousto-optic modulators.

Stability and exponential decay for the 2D anisotropic Boussinesq equations with horizontal dissipation

The hydrostatic equilibrium is a prominent topic in fluid dynamics and astrophysics. Understanding the stability of perturbations near the hydrostatic equilibrium of the Boussinesq systems helps gain insight into certain weather phenomena. The 2D Boussinesq system focused here is anisotropic and involves only horizontal dissipation and horizontal thermal diffusion. Due to the lack of the vertical dissipation, the stability and precise large-time behavior problem is difficult. When the spatial domain is $\mathbb R^2$, the stability problem in a Sobolev setting remains open. When the spatial domain is $\mathbb T\times \mathbb R$, this paper solves the stability problem and specifies the precise large-time behavior of the perturbation. By decomposing the velocity $u$ and temperature $θ$ into the horizontal average $(\bar u, \barθ)$ and the corresponding oscillation $(\widetilde u, \widetilde θ)$, and deriving various anisotropic inequalities, we are able to establish the global stability in the Sobolev space $H^2$. In addition, we prove that the oscillation $(\widetilde u, \widetilde θ)$ decays exponentially to zero in $H^1$ and $(u, θ)$ converges to $(\bar u, \barθ)$. This result reflects the stratification phenomenon of buoyancy-driven fluids.

Global regularity for the 2D MHD equations with horizontal dissipation and horizontal magnetic diffusion

This paper establishes the global regularity of classical solution to the 2D MHD system with only horizontal dissipation and horizontal magnetic diffusion in a strip domain $\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{R}$ when the initial data is suitable small. To prove this, we combine the Littlewood-Paley decomposition with anisotropic inequalities to establish a crucial commutator estimate. We also analysis the asymptotic behavior of the solution. In addition, the global existence and uniqueness of classical solution is obtained for the 2D simplified tropical climate model with only horizontal dissipations.

Temperature dependent threshold for amplified emission from hybrid lead perovskite films

The optical amplification emission of hybrid lead perovskite attracted great research interests. We systematically examined and compared temperature dependent optical amplification behavior of a series of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite films of (MA/FA)Pb(Br/I)3. The optical amplification threshold of the films showed considerable exponential increase towards the temperature increasing. We figured out that the critical temperature for the four films presented a sequence of FA+I < MA+I < FA+Br < MA+Br. Our systematical study is crucial for in depth understanding the fundamental mechanism of amplified emission of hybrid perovskite materials.

On the striated regularity for the 2D anisotropic Boussinesq system

In this paper, we investigate the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to 2D Boussinesq system with anisotropic thermal diffusion or anisotropic viscosity and with striated initial data. Using the key idea of Chemin to solve 2-D vortex patch of ideal fluid, namely the striated regularity can help to bound the gradient of the velocity, we can prove the global well-posedness of the Boussinesq system with anisotropic thermal diffusion with initial vorticity being discontinuous across some smooth interface. In the case of an anisotropic horizontal viscosity we can study the propagation of the striated regularity for the smooth temperature patches problem.

Neural Architecture Search for Deep Face Recognition

By the widespread popularity of electronic devices, the emergence of biometric technology has brought significant convenience to user authentication compared with the traditional password and mode unlocking. Among many biological characteristics, the face is a universal and irreplaceable feature that does not need too much cooperation and can significantly improve the user's experience at the same time. Face recognition is one of the main functions of electronic equipment propaganda. Hence it's virtually worth researching in computer vision. Previous work in this field has focused on two directions: converting loss function to improve recognition accuracy in traditional deep convolution neural networks (Resnet); combining the latest loss function with the lightweight system (MobileNet) to reduce network size at the minimal expense of accuracy. But none of these has changed the network structure. With the development of AutoML, neural architecture search (NAS) has shown excellent performance in the benchmark of image classification. In this paper, we integrate NAS technology into face recognition to customize a more suitable network. We quote the framework of neural architecture search which trains child and controller network alternately. At the same time, we mutate NAS by incorporating evaluation latency into rewards of reinforcement learning and utilize policy gradient algorithm to search the architecture automatically with the most classical cross-entropy loss. The network architectures we searched out have got state-of-the-art accuracy in the large-scale face dataset, which achieves 98.77% top-1 in MS-Celeb-1M and 99.89% in LFW with relatively small network size. To the best of our knowledge, this proposal is the first attempt to use NAS to solve the problem of Deep Face Recognition and achieve the best results in this domain.
