Certain Semi-L\'evy Driven CARMA Processes: Estimation and Forecasting

Continuous-time autoregressive moving average (CARMA) process driven by simple semi-L\'evy process has periodically correlated property with many potential application in finance. In this paper, we study on the estimation of the parameters of the simple semi-L\'evy CARMA (SSLCARMA) process based on the Kalman recursion technique. We implement this method in conjunction with the state-space representation of the associated process. The accuracy of estimation procedure is assessed in a simulated study. We fit a SSLCARMA(2,1) process to intraday realized volatility of Dow Jones Industrial Average data. Finally, We show that this process provides better in-sample forecasts of these data than the L\'evy driven CARMA process after de-seasonalized them.

Semi-Levy driven continuous-time GARCH process

We study the class of semi-Levy driven continuous-time GARCH, denoted by SLD-COGARCH, process. The statistical properties of this process are characterized. We show that the state process of such process can be described by a random recurrence equation with the periodic random coeffcients. We establish sufficient conditions for the existence of a strictly periodically stationary solution of the state process which causes the volatility process to be strictly periodically stationary. Furthermore, it is shown that the increments with constant length of such SLD-COGARCH process are themselves a discrete-time periodically correlated (PC) process. We apply some tests to verify the PC behavior of these increments by the simulation studies. Finally, we show that how well this model fits a set of high-frequency financial data.

Continuous-time GARCH process driven by semi-L\'evy process

In this paper we study the simple semi-L\'evy driven continuous-time generalized autoregressive conditionally heteroscedastic (SS-COGARCH) process. The statistical properties of this process are characterized. This process has the potential to approximate any semi-L\'evy driven COGARCH processes. We show that the state representation of such SS-COGARCH process can be described by a random recurrence equation with periodic random coefficients. The almost sure absolute convergence of the state process is proved. The periodically stationary solution of the state process is shown which cause the volatility to be periodically stationary under some suitable conditions. Also it is shown that the increments with constant length of such SS-COGARCH process is itself a periodically correlated (PC) process. Finally, we apply some test to investigate the PC behavior of the increments (with constant length) of the simulated samples of proposed SS-COGARCH process.

Multi-scale Invariant Fields: Estimation and Prediction

Extending the concept of multi-selfsimilar random field we study multi-scale invariant (MSI) fields which have component-wise discrete scale invariant property. Assuming scale parameters as $\lambda_i>1$, $i=1,\ldots,d$ and the parameter space as $(1, \infty)^d$, the first scale rectangle is referred to the rectangle $ (1, \lambda_1)\times \ldots \times (1, \lambda_d)$. Applying certain component-wise geometric sampling of MSI field, the harmonic-like representation and spectral density of the sampled MSI field are characterized. Furthermore, the covariance function and spectral density of the sampled Markov MSI field are presented by the variances and covariances of samples inside first scale rectangle. As an example of MSI field, a two-dimensional simple fractional Brownian sheet (sfBs) is demonstrated. Also real data of the precipitation in some area of Brisbane in Australia for two days (25 and 26 January 2013) are examined. We show that precipitation on this area has MSI property and estimate it as a simple MSI field with stationary increments inside scale intervals. This structure enables us to predict the precipitation in surface and time. We apply the mean absolute percentage error as a measure for the accuracy of the predictions.

Hurst estimation of scale invariant processes with drift and stationary increments

The characteristic feature of the discrete scale invariant (DSI) processes is the invariance of their finite dimensional distributions by dilation for certain scaling factor. DSI process with piecewise linear drift and stationary increments inside prescribed scale intervals is introduced and studied. To identify the structure of the process, first we determine the scale intervals, their linear drifts and eliminate them. Then a new method for the estimation of the Hurst parameter of such DSI processes is presented and applied to some period of the Dow Jones indices. This method is based on fixed number equally spaced samples inside successive scale intervals. We also present some efficient method for estimating Hurst parameter of self-similar processes with stationary increments. We compare the performance of this method with the celebrated FA, DFA and DMA on the simulated data of fractional Brownian motion.

Structure of continuous-time ARMA process driven by semi-Levy measure

A class of continuous-time autoregressive moving average (CARMA) process driven by simple semi-Levy measure is defined and its properties are studied. We discuss some new insights on the structure of the semi-Levy measure which is described as periodically divisible measure. This consideration enable us to provide statistical property of the introduced process. We show that this process is well defined without having to assume further conditions on the measure. We find a kernel representation of the process and present the properties of first and second moments of it. Finally we show the efficiency of our model by implying simulated data.

Certain Periodically Correlated Multi-component Locally Stationary Processes

By introducing $X^{ls}(t)$ as a random mixture of two stationary processes where the time dependent random weights have exponentially convex covariance, we show that this process has a multi-component locally stationary covariance function in Silverman's sense. We also define $X^p(t)$ as a certain continuous time periodically correlated (PC) process where its covariance function is generated by the covariance function of a discrete time through defining some simple random measure on real line. We also impose a bi-periodic correlation for this PC process with $X^{ls}(t)$. The existence of such random measure is proved. Then by defining $X(t)=X^{ls}(t)+X^p(t)$ as a certain periodically correlated multi-component locally stationary process, the covariance structure and time varying spectral representation of such processes are characterized.

Spectral Analysis of Multi-dimensional Self-similar Markov Processes

In this paper we consider a discrete scale invariant (DSI) process $\{X(t), t\in {\bf R^+}\}$ with scale $l>1$. We consider to have some fix number of observations in every scale, say $T$, and to get our samples at discrete points $\alpha^k, k\in {\bf W}$ where $\alpha$ is obtained by the equality $l=\alpha^T$ and ${\bf W}=\{0, 1,...\}$. So we provide a discrete time scale invariant (DT-SI) process $X(\cdot)$ with parameter space $\{\alpha^k, k\in {\bf W}\}$. We find the spectral representation of the covariance function of such DT-SI process. By providing harmonic like representation of multi-dimensional self-similar processes, spectral density function of them are presented. We assume that the process $\{X(t), t\in {\bf R^+}\}$ is also Markov in the wide sense and provide a discrete time scale invariant Markov (DT-SIM) process with the above scheme of sampling. We present an example of DT-SIM process, simple Brownian motion, by the above sampling scheme and verify our results. Finally we find the spectral density matrix of such DT-SIM process and show that its associated $T$-dimensional self-similar Markov process is fully specified by $\{R_{j}^H(1),R_{j}^H(0),j=0, 1,..., T-1\}$ where $R_j^H(\tau)$ is the covariance function of $j$th and $(j+\tau)$th observations of the process.

Characterization of Discrete Time Scale Invariant Markov Sequences

By considering special sampling of discrete scale invariant (DSI) processes we provide a sequence which is in correspondence to multi-dimensional self-similar process. By imposing Markov property we show that the covariance functions of such discrete scale invariant Markov (DSIM) sequences are characterized by variance, and covariance of adjacent samples in the first scale interval. We also provide a theoretical method for estimating spectral density matrix of corresponding multi-dimensional self-similar Markov process. Some examples such as simple Brownian motion with drift and scale invariant autoregressive model of order one are presented and these properties are investigated. By simulating DSIM sequences we provide visualization of their behavior and investigate these results. Finally we present a new method to estimate Hurst parameter of DSI processes and show that it has much better performance than maximum likelihood method for simulated data.
