Castelnuovo-Mumford Regularity and Combinatorial Invariants of Trees

This work establishes combinatorial bounds on the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of edge ideals for trees and their multi-whiskered variants. For a tree \( T \), we give bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of \( I(T) \) in terms of the order, diameter, and number of pendant vertices. Furthermore, we present an upper bound for multi-whiskered trees \( T_{\mathbf{a}} \), demonstrating that the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of \( I(T_{\mathbf{a}}) \) is bounded by the same invariants of the underlying tree \( T \). A principal consequence of this work is the derivation of corresponding inequalities for two key combinatorial invariants of \( T \), namely the induced matching number \( \operatorname{im}(T) \) and the independence number \( \alpha(T) \).

Early Detection of Late Blight Tomato Disease using Histogram Oriented Gradient based Support Vector Machine

The tomato is one of the most important fruits on earth. It plays an important and useful role in the agricultural production of any country. This research propose a novel smart technique for early detection of late blight diseases in tomatoes. This work improve the dataset with an increase in images from the field (the Plant Village dataset) and proposed a hybrid algorithm composed of support vector machines (SVM) and histogram-oriented gradients (HOG) for real-time detection of late blight tomato disease. To propose a HOG-based SVM model for early detection of late blight tomato leaf disease. To check the performance of the proposed model in terms of MSE, accuracy, precision, and recall as compared to Decision Tree and KNN. The integration of advanced technology in agriculture has the potential to revolutionize the industry, making it more efficient, sustainable, and profitable. This research work on the early detection of tomato diseases contributes to the growing importance of smart farming, the need for climate-smart agriculture, the rising need to more efficiently utilize natural resources, and the demand for higher crop yields. The proposed hybrid algorithm of SVM and HOG has significant potential for the early detection of late blight disease in tomato plants. The performance of the proposed model against decision tree and KNN algorithms and the results may assist in selecting the best algorithm for future applications. The research work can help farmers make data-driven decisions to optimize crop yield and quality while also reducing the environmental impact of farming practices.

Improved Web Accessibility Evaluation of Open Learning Contents for Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Web content should be accessible to normal and disabled communities on electronic devices. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) has created standard guidelines called Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Mobile Web Best Practice (MWBP) is also proposed by WAI for accessibility of websites on desktop computers and mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, iPads, iPhones, and iPods. Educational Resources that provide free licensed learning content are used to test the WCAG. The disabled community also has equal rights to gain access to these learning materials through electronic devices. The main purpose of this research is to evaluate these selected open educational learning materials for individuals with only learning disabilities. This research provides several recommendations to improve the accessibility level of the Learning Management Systems. Future research includes developing a more accessible learning management system with minimized or no accessibility errors. Disability includes physical impairments, mental disorders, lack of cognition, learning and emotional disability. Some individuals have multiple disorders. Learning disabilities are one of them. People have difficulty learning because of an unknown factor or low intelligence quotient (IQ).

Machine Learning Based Missing Values Imputation in Categorical Datasets

In order to predict and fill in the gaps in categorical datasets, this research looked into the use of machine learning algorithms. The emphasis was on ensemble models constructed using the Error Correction Output Codes framework, including models based on SVM and KNN as well as a hybrid classifier that combines models based on SVM, KNN,and MLP. Three diverse datasets, the CPU, Hypothyroid, and Breast Cancer datasets were employed to validate these algorithms. Results indicated that these machine learning techniques provided substantial performance in predicting and completing missing data, with the effectiveness varying based on the specific dataset and missing data pattern. Compared to solo models, ensemble models that made use of the ECOC framework significantly improved prediction accuracy and robustness. Deep learning for missing data imputation has obstacles despite these encouraging results, including the requirement for large amounts of labeled data and the possibility of overfitting. Subsequent research endeavors ought to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of deep learning algorithms in the context of the imputation of missing data.

Algebraic Properties of Edge Ideals of Corona Product of Certain Graphs

We study the algebraic invariants namely depth, Stanley depth, regularity and projective dimension of the residue class rings of the edge ideals associated with the corona product of various classes of graphs with any graph. We also give an expression for the Krull dimension of the residue class rings of the edge ideals associated with the corona product of any two graphs. As a consequence, we characterize some Cohen-Macaulay graphs.

Depth and Stanley depth of the edge ideals of the strong product of some graphs

In this paper we study depth and Stanley depth of the edge ideals and quotient rings of the edge ideals, associated to classes of graphs obtained by taking the strong product of two graphs. We consider the cases when either both graphs are arbitrary paths or one is an arbitrary path and the other is an arbitrary cycle. We give exact formulae for values of depth and Stanley depth for some sub classes. We also give some sharp upper bounds for depth and Stanley depth in the general cases.

PD-ML-Lite: Private Distributed Machine Learning from Lighweight Cryptography

Privacy is a major issue in learning from distributed data. Recently the cryptographic literature has provided several tools for this task. However, these tools either reduce the quality/accuracy of the learning algorithm---e.g., by adding noise---or they incur a high performance penalty and/or involve trusting external authorities. We propose a methodology for {\sl private distributed machine learning from light-weight cryptography} (in short, PD-ML-Lite). We apply our methodology to two major ML algorithms, namely non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) and singular value decomposition (SVD). Our resulting protocols are communication optimal, achieve the same accuracy as their non-private counterparts, and satisfy a notion of privacy---which we define---that is both intuitive and measurable. Our approach is to use lightweight cryptographic protocols (secure sum and normalized secure sum) to build learning algorithms rather than wrap complex learning algorithms in a heavy-cost MPC framework. We showcase our algorithms' utility and privacy on several applications: for NMF we consider topic modeling and recommender systems, and for SVD, principal component regression, and low rank approximation.

Depth and Stanley depth of the edge ideals of the powers of paths and cycles

Let $k$ be a positive integer. We compute depth and Stanley depth of the quotient ring of the edge ideal associated to the $k^{th}$ power of a path on $n$ vertices. We show that both depth and Stanley depth have the same values and can be given in terms of $k$ and $n$. For $n\geq 2k+1$, let $n\equiv 0,k+1,k+2,\dots, n-1(\mod(2k+1))$. Then we give values of depth and Stanley depth of the quotient ring of the edge ideal associated to the $k^{th}$ power of a cycle on $n$ vertices and tight bounds otherwise, in terms of $n$ and $k$. We also compute lower bounds for the Stanley depth of the edge ideals associated to the $k^{th}$ power of a path and a cycle and prove a conjecture of Herzog presented in \cite{HS} for these ideals.

Skin-color based videos categorization

On dedicated websites, people can upload videos and share it with the rest of the world. Currently these videos are cat- egorized manually by the help of the user community. In this paper, we propose a combination of color spaces with the Bayesian network approach for robust detection of skin color followed by an automated video categorization. Exper- imental results show that our method can achieve satisfactory performance for categorizing videos based on skin color.

Monomial ideals of minimal depth and trivial modifications

Let $S$ be a polynomial algebra over a field. We study classes of monomial ideals (as for example lexsegment ideals) of $S$ having minimal depth. In particular, Stanley's conjecture holds for these ideals. Also we show that if Stanley's conjecture holds for a square free monomial ideal then it holds for all its trivial modifications.

Stanley depth and complete $k$-partite hypergraphs

We give an upper bound for the Stanley depth of the edge ideal of a complete $k$-partite hypergraph and as an application we give an upper bound for the Stanley depth of a monomial ideal in a polynomial ring $S$. We also give a lower and an upper bound for the cyclic module $S/I$ associated to the complete $k$-partite hypergraph.

math.AC

Stanley depth of edge ideals

We give an upper bound for the Stanley depth of the edge ideal $I$ of a $k$-partite complete graph and show that Stanley's conjecture holds for $I$. Also we give an upper bound for the Stanley depth of the edge ideal of a $k$-uniform complete bipartite hypergraph.

Lexsegment ideals are sequentially Cohen-Macaulay

The associated primes of an arbitrary lexsegment ideal $I\subset S=K[x_1,...,x_n]$ are determined. As application it is shown that $S/I$ is a pretty clean module, therefore, $S/I$ is sequentially Cohen-Macaulay and satisfies Stanley's conjecture.

Values and bounds of the Stanley depth

We give different bounds for the Stanley depth of a monomial ideal $I$ of a polynomial algebra $S$ over a field $K$. For example we show that the Stanley depth of $I$ is less or equal with the Stanley depth of any prime ideal associated to $S/I$. Also we show that the Stanley conjecture holds for $I$ and $S/I$ when the associated prime ideals of $S/I$ are generated by disjoint sets of variables.
