A Brain-inspired Hierarchical Framework for Zero-Shot Robot Task Reasoning and Execution

Robots that follow open-ended language instructions need to connect semantic intent to visual scene understanding, geometric feasibility, object states, and physical interaction conditions. End-to-end Vision-Language-Action policies have improved cross-task generalization, but they typically map visual and language inputs directly to robot actions, leaving limited explicit structure for long-horizon decomposition, physical verification, and recovery. We present \method, a zero-shot hierarchical framework functionally inspired by the division of roles in the human brain, comprising visual perception and state inference, language grounding and action-sequence generation from a shared atomic action library, cost-based plan selection, and real-robot execution and verification. The framework grounds commands in explicit object states, composes reusable atomic actions into task-conditioned sequences, ranks alternative sequences by execution cost, and verifies intermediate physical outcomes from refreshed observations. In the evaluation, \method{} completes 10/10 clean board trials, 10/10 pick-and-place trials, and 4/5 pyramid stacking trials for both the flat and irregular initial-layout conditions; the corresponding mean task progress is $99.03\%$, $100.00\%$, and $96.67\%$ respectively. Across all evaluated conditions, \method{} achieves higher success rates than ReKep, Dream2Flow, and $\pi_{0.5}$ benchmarks, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining explicit object-state reasoning, compositional atomic actions, cost-based plan selection, and closed-loop execution verification.

InvariantCloud: A Globally Invariant, Uniquely Indexed Point Cloud Framework for Robust 6-DoF Tactile Pose Tracking

Recent advances in imitation learning and vision-language models highlight the need for high-fidelity tactile perception, with 6-DoF tactile object pose estimation providing a crucial foundation for precise robotic manipulation. We introduce InvariantCloud, a 6-DoF pose estimation framework that leverages the global invariance of surface marker constellations on vision-based tactile sensors. In contrast to recent approaches, our one-shot globally invariant point cloud registration suppresses cumulative drift and overcomes long-standing limitations in accurately estimating yaw (Z-axis) rotation. Experimental verifications show that InvariantCloud achieves superior yaw tracking accuracy and re-localization repeatability compared to existing benchmarks, demonstrating its precision and robustness in long-sequence manipulation tasks.

A physics-guided data-driven feedforward tracking controller for systems with unmodeled dynamics -- applied to 3D printing

A hybrid (i.e., physics-guided data-driven) feedforward tracking controller is proposed for systems with unmodeled linear or nonlinear dynamics. The controller is based on the filtered basis function (FBF) approach, hence it is called a hybrid FBF controller. It formulates the feedforward control input to a system as a linear combination of a set of basis functions whose coefficients are selected to minimize tracking errors. The basis functions are filtered using a combination of two linear models to predict and minimize the tracking errors. The first model is physics-based and remains unaltered during the execution of the controller, while the second is data-driven and is continuously updated during the execution of the controller. To ensure its practicality and safe learning, the proposed hybrid FBF controller is equipped with the ability to handle delays in data acquisition and to detect impending instability due to its inherent data-driven feedback loop. Its effectiveness is demonstrated via application to vibration compensation of a 3D printer with unmodeled linear and nonlinear dynamics. Thanks to the proposed hybrid FBF controller, the tracking accuracy of the 3D printer is significantly improved in experiments involving high-speed printing, compared to a standard FBF controller that does not incorporate a data-driven model. Furthermore, the ability of the hybrid FBF controller to detect and, hence, potentially avoid impending instability is demonstrated offline using data collected online from experiments.

Ultrafast disinfection of SARS-CoV-2 viruses

The wide use of surgical masks has been proven effective for mitigating the spread of respiration diseases, such as COVID-19, alongside social distance control, vaccines, and other efforts. With the newly reported variants, such as Delta and Omicron, a higher spread rate had been found compared to the initial strains. People might get infected even by inhaling fewer loading of viruses. More frequent sterilization of surgical masks is needed to protect the wearers. However, it is challenging to sterilize the commodity surgical masks with a fast and effective method. Herein, we reported the sterilization of the SARS-CoV-2 viruses within an ultra-short time, while retaining the mask performance. Silver thin film is coated on commercial polyimide film by physical vapor deposition and patterned by laser scribing to form a Joule heating electrode. Another layer of the gold thin film was coated onto the opposite side of the device to promote the uniformity of the Joule heating through nano-heat transfer regulation. As a result, the surgical mask can be heated to inactivation temperature within a short time and with high uniformity. By Joule-heating the surgical mask with the temperature at 90 {\deg}C for 3 minutes, the inactivation of the SARS-CoV-2 showed an efficacy of 99.89%. Normal commodity surgical masks can be sterilized faster, more frequently, and efficiently against SARS-CoV-2 viruses and the new invariants.
