Joint Subcarrier and Power Allocation for Multi-User OFDM ISAC Systems

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is envisioned as a key enabling technology for 6G networks. Efficient resource sharing between communication and sensing is a fundamental challenge in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) ISAC systems, particularly in multi-user scenarios, where channel diversity can be exploited to improve resource utilization. This paper investigates joint subcarrier assignment and power allocation for a downlink multi-user OFDM ISAC system, with the objective of minimizing the delay Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) subject to constraints on the normalized integrated sidelobe level (ISL) over the region of interest (RoI), per-user data rates, and total transmit power. We first derive a convex formulation for sensing power allocation given fixed subcarrier assignments, and then develop an equivalent mixed-integer conic formulation of the joint optimization problem. To obtain computationally tractable solutions, we propose a conic relaxation-guided fix-and-optimize (CRG-FO) algorithm that integrates continuous relaxation, power re-optimization under fixed subcarrier assignments, and restricted neighborhood search. Simulation results demonstrate that joint subcarrier and power allocation reduces the distance CRLB relative to uniform subcarrier and power allocation across the tested ISL thresholds, rate loads, and user configurations. Power optimization on uniform sensing supports captures most of this gain, while adaptive subcarrier assignment provides only modest additional improvement.

IndusAgent: Agentic Reinforcement Learning for Cross-Category Industrial Anomaly Detection

Small defects in unfamiliar product categories can be difficult to distinguish from benign appearance variations in a global view. Additional reasoning over the same view may leave this ambiguity unresolved. We introduce IndusAgent, a Qwen3-VL-8B inspection policy trained through supervised fine-tuning and tool-augmented reinforcement learning for cross-category industrial anomaly detection. The policy selects among six tools for cropping, enhancement, measurement, within-image comparison, texture analysis, and external visual opinions from Qwen3-VL-Max, then integrates returned observations into a structured diagnosis. Indus-CoT provides 3,000 trajectories from 26 Real-IAD categories, generated with actual tool feedback and screened against annotations after teacher generation. GRPO optimizes an accuracy-gated objective that conditions localization, type, and tool rewards, including call costs, on final diagnostic correctness while retaining an independent format reward. Across five benchmarks, IndusAgent achieves 83.5% mean balanced accuracy, compared with 79.4% for direct Max inference under the common protocol. Across three training seeds, the five-benchmark mean balanced accuracy is 80.5\% for a weight-matched ungated control and 83.5% for the gated policy. Evaluation uses disjoint product categories and a fixed defect vocabulary.

Four-Level Quantized Soft Information Aided Hard-Decision Decoder for Product-like Codes

We propose a novel low-complexity soft-aided hard-decision decoding scheme for product-like codes, termed iterative bounded-distance decoding (iBDD) with graded scaled reliability and bit-flipping (GSRF). This scheme operates on four-level quantized soft information. It incorporates a graded scaled reliability rule to assign decoding confidence to the bounded-distance decoding result, and employs a bit-flipping rule based on bit-level and component-code-level reliability. A selective re-decoding rule is designed to further facilitate the error performance while keeping the number of BDD attempts in reasonably low levels. The decoding parameter design of iBDD-GSRF is investigated for product codes and staircase codes, respectively. Simulation results on both codes verify that iBDD-GSRF achieves a gain of more than 0.4 dB over the conventional iBDD, comparable to several existing unquantized soft-aided decoders.

Iterative Bounded Distance Decoding With 2-Bit Reliability Marker For Product-Like Codes

We propose a novel soft-aided hard-decision decoding scheme for product codes based on two-bit quantized reliability markers. In particular, one bit is used for a two-level tolerance miscorrection check to validate the bounded distance decoding (BDD) result, while the other identifies bits to be randomly flipped upon BDD failure and miscorrection. List decoding is incorporated to further facilitate the error performance. Density evolution is performed for the design of the quantization thresholds. Compared to iterative BDD, the proposed scheme requires only moderate increases in memory and computational overhead. Simulation results verify that our scheme outperforms several unquantized soft-aided decoders, while maintaining small memory costs and low BDD attempts.

Programmable Intrinsic Circularly Polarized Emission

Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is central to chiral photonics, yet programming circularly polarized emission at the nanoscale remains challenging. Here, we program intrinsic CPL at its microscopic origin in laser-written all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals embedded in glass. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveals a core-shell-like variation in interplanar spacing associated with intrinsic CPL, consistent with torsional lattice distortion. The torsional lattice distortion breaks inversion symmetry, while density functional theory calculations show that it lifts the spin degeneracy of the band-edge electronic states. Power-dependent measurements further reveal a transition from birefringence-mediated circular polarization to intrinsic CPL, accompanied by the emergence of a distinct core-shell-like lattice distortion in the nanocrystals. By tuning the incident linear polarization angle and focal depth, we deterministically control both the handedness and magnitude of the intrinsic CPL, with |glum| of approximately 4 ^ 10^-3. These results show that programmable intrinsic CPL originates from the structural and electronic properties of the emitting nanocrystals, enabling circularly polarized emission to be controlled at its microscopic origin and spatially encoded within a monolithic material.

A 0.35 mm Silicon Carbide Diffractive Waveguide with Dual Parameter Apodization for Full Color Augmented Reality

Augmented reality eyewear offers a transformative interface poised to reshape human information interaction. In this context, silicon carbide (SiC) offers unique advantages for diffractive waveguides with its high refractive index and excellent thermal conductivity. However, in single-layer full-color displays, existing SiC waveguides generally remain thicker than 0.5 mm to reduce the bounce count of total internal reflection, thereby avoiding severe spatial variations in luminance and color. Here, we demonstrate a 0.35 mm SiC diffractive waveguide with an ultra-lightweight of only 1.98 g. The challenge of spatial non-uniformity is addressed by dual-parameter apodized gratings with continuously varying depth and duty cycle, enabling fine spatial control over local diffraction efficiency. To realize high-throughput production, a parallel gradient transfer method compatible with nanoimprint lithography is introduced, enabling wafer-scale patterning of four lens pairs per 8-inch SiC wafer. Furthermore, magnesium fluoride planarization suppresses grating visibility and achieves a high see-through transmittance of 92%. Optical simulations confirm that this architecture achieves balanced full-color transmission across a 30-degree field of view. This strategy provides a scalable route toward ultra-light and visually unobtrusive glasses, opening new opportunities for practical consumer-grade wearable displays.

Direct experimental measurement of femtonewton-scale momentum transfer force from electron beams

Electron beams (e-beams) are ubiquitous in imaging, patterning, and propulsion. This prevalence is rooted in the profound mastery of their wave-particle duality and energy-transfer pathways. Yet, a fundamental dimension remains largely unexplored: while the mechanical effect (i.e., the momentum transfer to a target) is theoretically known, quantification of its femtonewton-range force has remained elusive. This discrepancy represents a missing piece of the puzzle toward a comprehensive understanding of e-beam-matter interactions, and ultimately limits the multi-dimensional exploitation of e-beams. A force sensor combining femtonewton sensitivity, immunity to electromagnetic noise, compatibility with vacuum, and absolute calibration is critical to bridge the gap between theory and experiment. Here the FINEST (Femtonewton Interferometric Nanomechanical Electron-beam Sensing Technology) sensor is proposed and successfully tested to measure the force of an e-beam. FINEST is an optical-pressure-calibrated 3D spring-type optical sensor that operates reliably under e-beam conditions. Femtonewton-scale forces from 2-30 keV e-beams are directly measured, ranging from 505 fN to 13 pN. Both linear scaling with beam current and a non-monotonic energy dependence (peaking near 10 keV) are observed. Based on this calibrated force, the mechanical contribution to e-beam ice etching was quantitatively confirmed; its effect is orders of magnitude lower than the total etch depth and lacks noticeable energy dependence. By achieving the first direct experimental measurement of e-beam momentum transfer, this work adds a long-missing dimension to the physical landscape of e-beam processes. These findings provide a quantitative basis for furthering the multi-dimensional exploitation of e-beams, potentially transforming our approach to precision nanofabrication, sensing, and fundamental electron physics research.

In-situ integrated nonlocal Huygens metasurfaces enable robust vortex beams from multimode fibers

A fundamental hurdle for multimode fiber (MMF) integrated photonics is achieving robust and deterministic wavefront shaping against fiber perturbation, which induces random modal interference and scrambles the real-space output into speckle patterns. Existing wavefront shaping methods typically rely on pixelated phase or polarization pre-compensation, rendering them highly sensitive to fiber deformation. Here, we show that in-situ integration of a silicon nonlocal metasurface onto an MMF end facet enables direct conversion of arbitrary speckle patterns into optical vortex beams without pre-compensation. The metasurface supports overlapped Mie resonances and nonlocal bound states in the continuum (BICs), yielding high-transmission bands by satisfying the generalized nonlocal Huygens condition. Through momentum-space coupling between MMF modes and Huygens-BICs with topological polarization-vortex nature, the output maintains doughnut-shaped profiles under static and dynamic perturbations, demonstrating exceptional robustness against fiber deformation. This approach provides a compact, alignment-tolerant platform for robust structured light generation in MMFs for endoscopy, optical trapping and communications.

Design of APSK Constellations Approaching the Communication-Sensing Pareto Boundary for ISAC

We propose a semi-analytical design framework for amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) signaling for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), focusing on i.i.d. uniform discrete input distributions for practicality and analytical tractability. First, we establish APSK design criteria in which communication performance is measured by the gap to capacity and linked to the minimum Euclidean distance, while sensing performance is characterized by the symbol-energy variance. Based on these criteria, we develop a structured APSK construction whose key parameters follow explicit scaling laws. Then we prove that this construction achieves a constant gap to capacity independent of the signal-to-noise ratio. Building upon this foundation, we further construct a parametric APSK family that bridges the communication-optimal and sensing-optimal designs, with the communication and sensing (C&S) tradeoff controlled by the number of rings and energy allocation among rings. Simulation results show that the resulting APSK family achieves C&S performance very close to the Pareto boundary achieved with time-independent, circularly symmetric, and otherwise unconstrained continuous input distributions.

Monolithic Multifocal Diamond Metalens for High-Power Laser Systems

High-power laser systems increasingly rely on multi-beam processing to enhance manufacturing throughput. However, conventional multifocal systems remain constrained by bulky architectures, stringent alignment requirements, and susceptibility to laser-induced degradation under intense irradiation. Here, we demonstrate a monolithic multifocal diamond metalens with a 7.2 mm aperture that maintains exceptional thermal stability and power tolerance. The device employs high-aspect-ratio truncated-cone diamond nanopillars to generate two focal spots separated by 200 μm at a focal length of 4 mm. Under sustained 25 W pulsed-laser irradiation for 1 h, the diamond metalens exhibits a focal shift of only 25.5 μm, resulting in a maximum processing-depth variation of 33.2 μm during 4H silicon carbide (SiC) laser scribing, far below the 319.1 μm deviation observed for a commercial objective lens combined with a beam-splitting diffractive optical element (DOE). Even under extreme optical loading, the metalens withstands continuous-wave laser irradiation up to 8.25 kW for 30 s without structural degradation, while complementary pulsed testing yields a laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of 2.45 J/(cm^2) for diamond. This work broadens the operating envelope of transmissive meta-optics to extreme optical loads, opening new opportunities across high-power photonic systems.

OAMP-Aided Joint Channel Estimation and Data Detection for ODDM Systems

In this work, to address the challenge of joint channel estimation and data detection (JED) for orthogonal delay-Doppler (DD) division multiplexing (ODDM) in doubly selective channels, we propose an orthogonal approximate message passing (OAMP)-aided JED (OAMP-JED) receiver. We first formulate a bilinear cross-domain JED model, which can be linearized into separate channel estimation and data detection subproblems. The proposed OAMP-JED receiver alternately executes two OAMP modules for these subproblems, effectively coupled through a variational noise term to account for model uncertainty. Leveraging OAMP's error orthogonality, we derive closed-form scalar-variance updates to enable efficient and principled soft information exchange between the modules, thereby mitigating error propagation during JED. Simulation results show that, for both uncoded and coded ODDM, OAMP-JED achieves a lower bit error rate (BER) than benchmark schemes. Moreover, its BER performance closely approaches that of OAMP with perfect CSI.

On the Rate Region of I.I.D. Discrete Signaling and Treating Interference as Noise for the Gaussian Broadcast Channel

We revisit the Gaussian broadcast channel (GBC) and explore the rate region achieved by purely discrete inputs with treating interference as noise (TIN) decoding. Specifically, we introduce a simple scheme based on superposition coding with identically and independently distributed (i.i.d.) inputs drawn from discrete constellations, e.g., pulse amplitude modulations (PAM). Most importantly, we prove that the resulting achievable rate region under TIN decoding is within a constant gap to the capacity region of the GBC, where the gap is independent of all channel parameters. In addition, we show via simulation that the weak user can achieve a higher rate with PAM than with Gaussian signaling in some cases.

Manifold partitioning induced sequential optical reasoning and decision framework for photonic computing

Real-world data are intrinsically embedded in highly entangled manifolds, making the extraction of separable representations a central challenge for artificial intelligent (AI) systems. While optical neural networks (ONNs) offer ultrafast and energy-efficient data processing, their capacity is constrained by limited physical depth. Here, we introduce a sequential optical reasoning and decision (SORD) framework, an architecture that performs time-sequenced hierarchical inference by decomposing global tasks into coarse-to-fine steps via geometry-guided data partitioning. At each step, SORD executes small reasoning via dynamic operator selection, effectively reducing the overall task complexity without scaling up physical architecture. Experimentally, SORD enables a single-layer diffractive ONN to achieve otherwise intractable 100-class optical fiber speckle classification with 94% accuracy and a system energy efficiency of 23.3 TOPS/W. This high-fidelity recognition is further examined in a human-machine interface, featuring real-time interactive all-optical sensing. Overall, our work establishes a scalable and hardware-efficient approach to expanding the effective expressivity of compact photonic AI systems, and may advance their deployment in applications requiring real-time sensing, inference, and control.

The 3-adic valuations of Stirling numbers of the first kind

Let $v_3$ denote the usual $3$-adic valuation, and let $s(n, k)$ be the unsigned Stirling number of the first kind. In this paper, for $a\in\{1,2\}$, we determine the values of $v_3(s(a3^n, k))$ for all $1\le k\le a3^n$. More precisely, for each admissible pair $(m, k)$, we obtain an explicit formula for $v_3(s(a3^n, a3^m-k))$. The proof combines properties of the $m$-th Stirling numbers of the first kind with a detailed analysis of the relevant $3$-adic orders. As a consequence, we prove the case $p=3$ of a conjecture of Hong and Qiu proposed in 2020. We also derive formulas near the diagonal, comparison results for the adjacent orders $a3^n$ and $a3^n+1$, sharp upper bounds for the families $v_3(s(3^n, k))$ and $v_3(s(2\cdot3^n, k))$, and partial confirmations of conjectures of Lengyel and of Leonetti and Sanna.

Guaranteed Image Classification via Goal-oriented Joint Semantic Source and Channel Coding

To enable critical applications such as remote diagnostics, image classification must be guaranteed under bandwidth constraints and unreliable wireless channels through joint source and channel coding (JSCC) design. However, most existing JSCC methods focus on minimizing image distortion, implicitly assuming that all image regions contribute equally to classification performance, thereby overlooking their varying importance for the task. In this paper, we propose a goal-oriented joint semantic source and channel coding (G-JSSCC) framework that applies \emph{various} levels of source coding compression and channel coding protection across image regions based on their semantic importance. Specifically, we design a semantic information extraction method that identifies and ranks various image regions based on their contributions to classification, where the contribution is measured by the shapely value from explainable artificial intelligence (AI). Based on that, we design a semantic source coding and a semantic channel coding method, which allocates higher-quality compression and stronger error protection to image regions of great semantic importance. In addition, we define a new metric, termed coding efficiency, to evaluate the effectiveness of the source and channel coding in the classification task. Simulations show that our proposed G-JSSCC framework improves classification probability by 2.70 times, reduces transmission cost by 38%, and enhances coding efficiency by 5.91 times, compared to the benchmark scheme using uniform compression and an idealized channel code to uniformly protect the whole image.

A Novel ISAC Waveform Based on Orthogonal Delay-Doppler Division Multiplexing with FMCW

In this work, we propose the orthogonal delay-Doppler (DD) division multiplexing (ODDM) modulation with frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) (ODDM-FMCW) waveform to enable integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) with a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). We first propose a square-root-Nyquist-filtered FMCW (SRN-FMCW) waveform to address limitations of conventional linear FMCW waveforms in ISAC systems. To better integrate with ODDM, we generate SRN-FMCW by embedding symbols in the DD domain, referred to as a DD-SRN-FMCW frame. A DD chirp compression receiver is designed to obtain the channel response efficiently. Next, we construct the proposed ODDM-FMCW waveform for ISAC by superimposing a DD-SRN-FMCW frame onto an ODDM data frame. A comprehensive performance analysis of the ODDM-FMCW waveform is presented, covering peak-to-average power ratio, spectrum, ambiguity function, and Cramer-Rao bound for delay and Doppler estimation. Numerical results show that the proposed ODDM-FMCW waveform delivers excellent ISAC performance in terms of root mean square error for sensing and bit error rate for communications.

Ice-assisted soft-landing deposition for van der Waals integration

Van der Waals integration enables the creation of electronic and optoelectronic devices with unprecedented performance and novel functionalities beyond the existing material limitations. However, it is typically realized using a physical pick-up-and-place process to minimize interfacial damages and is hardly integrated into conventional lithography and metallization procedures. Here we demonstrate a simple in situ transfer strategy for van der Waals integration, in which a thin film of amorphous water ice acts as a buffer layer to shield against the bombardment of energetic clusters during metallization. After ice sublimation, the deposited metal film can be gently and in situ placed onto underlying substrates, to form an atomically clean and damage-free metal-semiconductor interface. This strategy allows ultra-clean and non-destructive fabrication of high-quality contacts on monolayer MoS2, which is extremely beneficial to produce a high-performance 2D field-effect transistor with an ultra-high on/off ratio of 1010, mobility of 80 (cm2 V-1s-1), and also with reduced Fermi level pinning effect. We also demonstrate the batch production of CVD-grown MoS2 transistor arrays with uniform electrical characteristics. Such a gentle and ultra-clean fabrication approach has been further extended to materials with high reactivity, such as halide perovskites. Our method can be easily integrated with mature semiconductor manufacturing technology and may become a generic strategy for fabricating van der Waals contacted devices.
