Convolutions of Goss and Pellarin $L$-series

We establish special value results of convolutions of Goss and Pellarin $L$-series attached to Drinfeld modules that take values in Tate algebras. Applying the class module formula of Demeslay to certain rigid analytic twists of one Drinfeld module by another, we extend the special value formula for the Pellarin $L$-function associated to the Carlitz module and the Anderson-Thakur function to Drinfeld modules of arbitrary rank and their rigid analytic trivializations. By way of the theory of Schur polynomials these identities take the form of specializations of convolutions of Rankin-Selberg type. These convolution $L$-series are also identified with covolumes of Stark units.

Function Field Analogue of Shimura's Conjecture on Period Symbols

In this paper we introduce the notion of Shimura's period symbols over function fields in positive characteristic and establish their fundamental properties. We further formulate and prove a function field analogue of Shimura's conjecture on the algebraic independence of period symbols. Our results enable us to verify the algebraic independence of the coordinates of any nonzero period vector of an abelian t-module with complex multiplication whose CM type is non-degenerate and defined over an algebraic function field. This is an extension of Yu's work on Hilbert-Blumenthal t-modules.

Effective rigid analytic trivializations for Drinfeld modules

We develop tools for constructing rigid analytic trivializations for Drinfeld modules as infinite products of Frobenius twists of matrices, from which we recover the rigid analytic trivialization given by Pellarin in terms of Anderson generating functions. One advantage is that these infinite products can be obtained from only a finite amount of initial calculation, and consequently we obtain new formulas for periods and quasi-periods, similar to the product expansion of the Carlitz period. We further link to results of Gekeler and Maurischat on the $\infty$-adic field generated by the period lattice.

Hyperderivatives of periods and quasi-periods for Anderson $t$-modules

We investigate periods, quasi-periods, logarithms, and quasi-logarithms of Anderson $t$-modules, as well as their hyperderivatives. We develop a comprehensive account of how these values can be obtained through rigid analytic trivializations of abelian and $\mathbf{A}$-finite $t$-modules. To do this we build on the exponentiation theorem of Anderson and investigate quasi-periodic extensions of $t$-modules through Anderson generating functions. By applying these results to prolongation $t$-modules of Maurischat, we integrate hyperderivatives of these values together with previous work of Brownawell and Denis in this framework.

Hyperderivative power sums, Vandermonde matrices, and Carlitz multiplication coefficients

We investigate interconnected aspects of hyperderivatives of polynomials over finite fields, q-th powers of polynomials, and specializations of Vandermonde matrices. We construct formulas for Carlitz multiplication coefficients using hyperderivatives and symmetric polynomials, and we prove identities for hyperderivative power sums in terms of specializations of the inverse of the Vandermonde matrix. As an application of these results we give a new proof of a theorem of Thakur on explicit formulas for Anderson's special polynomials for log-algebraicity on the Carlitz module. Furthermore, by combining results of Pellarin and Perkins with these techniques, we obtain a new proof of Anderson's theorem in the general case.

The de Rham isomorphism for Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras

Introduced by Anglès, Pellarin, and Tavares Ribeiro, Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras are closely connected to Anderson log-algebraicity identities, Pellarin $L$-series, and Taelman class modules. In the present paper we define the de Rham map for Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras, and we prove that it is an isomorphism under natural hypotheses. As part of this investigation we determine further criteria for the uniformizability and rigid analytic triviality of Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras.

A rapid introduction to Drinfeld modules, $t$-modules, and $t$-motives

The present article aims to provide a brief account of the theories of Drinfeld modules and Anderson's $t$-modules and $t$-motives. As such the article is not meant to be comprehensive, but we have endeavored to summarize aspects of the theory that are of current interest and to include a number of examples.

Log-algebraic identities on Drinfeld modules and special L-values

We formulate and prove a log-algebraicity theorem for arbitrary rank Drinfeld modules defined over the polynomial ring F_q[theta]. This generalizes results of Anderson for the rank one case. As an application we show that certain special values of Goss L-functions are linear forms in Drinfeld logarithms and are transcendental.

Special L-values and shtuka functions for Drinfeld modules on elliptic curves

We make a detailed account of sign-normalized rank 1 Drinfeld A-modules, for A the coordinate ring of an elliptic curve over a finite field, in order to provide a parallel theory to the Carlitz module for F_q[t]. Using precise formulas for the shtuka function for A, we obtain a product formula for the fundamental period of the Drinfeld module. Using the shtuka function we find identities for deformations of reciprocal sums and as a result prove special value formulas for Pellarin L-series in terms of an Anderson-Thakur function. We also give a new proof of a log-algebraicity theorem of Anderson.

Theta operators, Goss polynomials, and v-adic modular forms

We investigate hyperderivatives of Drinfeld modular forms and determine formulas for these derivatives in terms of Goss polynomials for the kernel of the Carlitz exponential. As a consequence we prove that v-adic modular forms in the sense of Serre, as defined by Goss and Vincent, are preserved under hyperdifferentiation. Moreover, upon multiplication by a Carlitz factorial, hyperdifferentiation preserves v-integrality.

An effective criterion for Eulerian multizeta values in positive characteristic

Characteristic p multizeta values were initially studied by Thakur, who defined them as analogues of classical multiple zeta values of Euler. In the present paper we establish an effective criterion for Eulerian multizeta values, which characterizes when a multizeta value is a rational multiple of a power of the Carlitz period. The resulting "t-motivic" algorithm can tell whether any given multizeta value is Eulerian or not. We also prove that if zeta_A(s_1,...,s_r) is Eulerian, then zeta_A(s_2,...,s_r) has to be Eulerian. When r=2, this was conjectured (and later on conjectured for arbitrary r) by Lara Rodriguez and Thakur for the zeta-like case from numerical data. Our methods apply equally well to values of Carlitz multiple polylogarithms at algebraic points and zeta-like multizeta values.

A finite field hypergeometric function associated to eigenvalues of a Siegel eigenform

Although links between values of finite field hypergeometric functions and eigenvalues of elliptic modular forms are well known, we establish in this paper that there are also connections to eigenvalues of Siegel modular forms of higher degree. Specifically, we relate the eigenvalue of the Hecke operator of index $p$ of a Siegel eigenform of degree 2 and level 8 to a special value of a ${}_4F_3$-hypergeometric function.

Identities for Anderson generating functions for Drinfeld modules

Anderson generating functions are generating series for division values of points on Drinfeld modules, and they serve as important tools for capturing periods, quasi-periods, and logarithms. They have been fundamental in recent work on special values of positive characteristic L-series and in transcendence and algebraic independence problems. In the present paper we investigate techniques for expressing Anderson generating functions in terms of the defining polynomial of the Drinfeld module and determine new formulas for periods and quasi-periods.

The Mahler measure of a Calabi-Yau threefold and special L-values

The aim of this paper is to prove a Mahler measure formula of a four-variable Laurent polynomial whose zero locus defines a Calabi-Yau threefold. We show that its Mahler measure is a rational linear combination of a special L-value of the normalized newform in S_4(Gamma_0(8)) and a Riemann zeta value. This is equivalent to a new formula for a 6F5-hypergeometric series evaluated at 1.

Explicit formulas for Drinfeld modules and their periods

We provide explicit series expansions for the exponential and logarithm functions attached to a rank r Drinfeld module that generalize well known formulas for the Carlitz exponential and logarithm. Using these results we obtain a procedure and an analytic expression for computing the periods of rank 2 Drinfeld modules and also a criterion for supersingularity.

Geometric Gamma values and zeta values in positive characteristic

In analogy with values of the classical Euler Gamma-function at rational numbers and the Riemann zeta-function at positive integers, we consider Thakur's geometric Gamma-function evaluated at rational arguments and Carlitz zeta-values at positive integers. We prove that, when considered together, all of the algebraic relations among these special values arise from the standard functional equations of the Gamma-function and from the Euler-Carlitz relations and Frobenius p-th power relations of the zeta-function.
