On the K-theory of C*-algebras for substitution tilings (a pedestrian version)

Under suitable conditions, a substitution tiling gives rise to a Smale space, from which three equivalence relations can be constructed, namely the stable, unstable, and asymptotic equivalence relations. We denote with $S$, $U$, and $A$ their corresponding $C^*$-algebras in the sense of Renault. In this article we show that the $K$-theories of $S$ and $U$ can be computed from the cohomology and homology of a single cochain complex with connecting maps for tilings of the line and of the plane. Moreover, we provide formulas to compute the $K$-theory for these three $C^*$-algebras. Furthermore, we show that the $K$-theory groups for tilings of dimension 1 are always torsion free. For tilings of dimension 2, only $K_0(U)$ and $K_1(S)$ can contain torsion.

Cohomology of the continuous hull of a combinatorial pentagonal tiling

In the article "Construction of the continuous hull for the combinatorics of a regular pentagonal tiling of the plane" we constructed the continuous hull for the combinatorics of "A regular pentagonal tiling of the plane", and in the article "Continuous hull of a combinatorial pentagonal tiling as an inverse limit" we showed how we could write this hull as an inverse limit. In this paper we show how to compute the cohomology of the hull and its topological K-theory.

Continuous hull of a combinatorial pentagonal tiling as an inverse limit

In the article "Construction of the continuous hull for the combinatorics of a regular pentagonal tiling of the plane" we constructed a compact topological space for the combinatorics of "A regular pentagonal tiling of the plane", which we call the continuous hull. We also constructed a substitution map on the space which turns out to be a homeomorphism, and so the pair given by the continuous hull and the substitution map yields a dynamical system. In this paper we show how we can write this dynamical system as another dynamical system given by an inverse limit and a right shift map.

Construction of the discrete hull for the combinatorics of a regular pentagonal tiling of the plane

The article 'A "regular" pentagonal tiling of the plane' by P. L. Bowers and K. Stephenson defines a conformal pentagonal tiling. This is a tiling of the plane with remarkable combinatorial and geometric properties. However, it doesn't have finite local complexity in any usual sense, and therefore we cannot study it with the usual tiling theory. The appeal of the tiling is that all the tiles are conformally regular pentagons. But conformal maps are not allowable under finite local complexity. On the other hand, the tiling can be described completely by its combinatorial data, which rather automatically has finite local complexity. In this paper we give a construction of the discrete hull just from the combinatorial data. The main result of this paper is that the discrete hull is a Cantor space.

A non FLC regular pentagonal tiling of the plane

In this paper we describe the pentagonal tiling of the plane defined in the article "A regular pentagonal tiling of the plane" by P. L. Bowers and K. Stephenson as a conformal substitution tiling and summarize many of its properties given in the mentioned article. We show furthermore why such tiling is not FLC with respect to the set of conformal isomorphisms.
