Sharp nonuniqueness for the forced 2D Navier-Stokes and dissipative SQG equations

We prove a sharp nonuniqueness result for the forced generalized SQG equation. First, this yields nonunique $\dot{H}^s$- energy solutions below the Miura-Ju class. In particular, this shows that the solutions constructed by Resnick and Marchand for the dissipative SQG equation are not necessarily unique. Second, this establishes nonuniqueness below the Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin class for the 2D Navier-Stokes equation, as well as below the Constantin-Wu and Dong-Chen-Zhao-Liu classes for the dissipative SQG equation.

Unstable vortices, sharp non-uniqueness with forcing, and global smooth solutions for the SQG equation

We prove non-uniqueness of weak solutions to the forced $\alpha$-SQG equation with Sobolev regularity $W^{s,p}$ in the supercritical regime $s < \alpha + \frac{2}{p}$, covering the 2D Euler equation ($\alpha = 0$), the Surface Quasi-Geostrophic equation ($\alpha = 1$), and the intermediate cases. A key step is the construction of smooth, compactly supported vortices that exhibit non-linear instability. As a by-product, we show existence of global smooth solutions to the (unforced) $\alpha$-SQG equation that are neither rotating nor traveling.

A proof of Vishik's nonuniqueness Theorem for the forced 2D Euler equation

We give a simpler proof of Vishik's nonuniqueness Theorem for the forced 2D Euler equation in the vorticity class $L^1\cap L^p$ with $2<p<\infty$. The main simplification is an alternative construction of a smooth and compactly supported unstable vortex, which is split into two steps: Firstly, we construct a piecewise constant unstable vortex, and secondly, we find a regularization through a fixed point argument. This simpler structure of the unstable vortex yields a simplification of the other parts of Vishik's proof.

Weak solutions of Anisotropic (and crystalline) inverse mean curvature flow as limits of $p$-capacitary potentials

We construct weak solutions of the anisotropic inverse mean curvature flow (A-IMCF) under very mild assumptions both on the anisotropy (which is simply a norm in $\mathbb R^N$ with no ellip\-ticity nor smoothness requirements, in order to include the crystalline case) and on the initial data. By means of an approximation procedure introduced by Moser, our solutions are limits of anisotropic $p$-harmonic functions or $p$-capacitary functions (after a change of variable), and we get uniqueness both for the approximating solutions (i.e., uniqueness of $p$-capacitary functions) and the limiting ones. Our notion of weak solution still recovers variational and geometric definitions similar to those introduced by Huisken-Ilmanen, but requires to work within the broader setting of $BV$-functions. Despite of this, we still reach classical results like the continuity and exponential growth of perimeter, as well as outward minimizing properties of the sublevel sets. Moreover, by assuming the extra regularity given by an interior rolling ball condition (where a sliding Wulff shape plays the role of a ball), the solutions are shown to be continuous and satisfy Harnack inequalities. Finally, examples of explicit solutions are built.

Characterization of the subdifferential and minimizers for the anisotropic p-capacity

We obtain existence of minimizers for the $p$-capacity functional defined with respect to a centrally symmetric anisotropy for $1 < p<\infty$, including the case of a crystalline norm in $\mathbb R^N$. The result is obtained by a characterization of the corresponding subdifferential and it applies for unbounded domains of the form $\mathbb R^N \setminus \overline{\Omega}$ under mild regularity assumptions (Lipschitz-continuous boundary) and no convexity requirements on the bounded domain $\Omega$. If we further assume an interior ball condition (where the Wulff shape plays the role of a ball), then any minimizer is shown to be Lipschitz continuous.

Nonlocal doubly nonlinear diffusion problems with nonlinear boundary conditions

We study the existence and uniqueness of mild and strong solutions of nonlocal nonlinear diffusion problems of $p$-Laplacian type with nonlinear boundary conditions posed in metric random walk spaces. These spaces include, among others, weighted discrete graphs and $\mathbb{R}^N$ with a random walk induced by a nonsingular kernel. We also study the case of nonlinear dynamical boundary conditions. The generality of the nonlinearities considered allow us to cover the nonlocal counterparts of a large scope of local diffusion problems: Stefan problems, Hele-Shaw problems, diffusion in porous media problems, obstacle problems, and more. Nonlinear semigroup theory is the basis for this study.

The Heat Flow on Metric Random Walk Spaces

In this paper we study the Heat Flow on Metric Random Walk Spaces, which unifies into a broad framework the heat flow on locally finite weighted connected graphs, the heat flow determined by finite Markov chains and some nonlocal evolution problems. We give different characterizations of the ergodicity and prove that a metric random walk space with positive Ollivier-Ricci curvature is ergodic. Furthermore, we prove a Cheeger inequality and, as a consequence, we show that a Poincar\'{e} inequality holds if, and only if, an isoperimetric inequality holds. We also study the Bakry-\'{E}mery curvature-dimension condition and its relation with functional inequalities like the Poincar\'{e} inequality and the transport-information inequalities.
