On a Noncommutative Iwasawa Main Conjecture for Function Fields

We formulate and prove an analogue of the non-commutative Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $\ell$-adic representations of the Galois group of a function field of characteristic $p$. We also prove a functional equation for the resulting non-commutative $L$-functions. As corollaries, we obtain non-commutative generalisations of the main conjecture for Picard-$1$-motives of Greither and Popescu and a main conjecture for abelian varieties over function fields in precise analogy to the $\operatorname{GL}_2$ main conjecture of Coates, Fukaya, Kato, Sujatha and Venjakob.

Non-commutative $L$-functions for $p$-adic representations over totally real fields

We prove a unicity result for the $L$-functions appearing in the non-commutative Iwasawa main conjecture over totally real fields. We then consider continuous representations $\rho$ of the absolute Galois group of a totally real field $F$ on adic rings in the sense of Fukaya and Kato. Using our unicity result, we show that there exists a unique sensible definition of a non-commutative $L$-function for any such $\rho$ that factors through the Galois group of a possibly infinite totally real extension. We also consider the case of CM-extensions and discuss the relation with the equivariant main conjecture for realisations of abstract $1$-motives of Greither and Popescu.

Unit L-functions for étale sheaves of modules over noncommutative rings

Let $s\colon X\rightarrow \operatorname{Spec} \mathbb{F}$ be a separated scheme of finite type over a finite field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic $p$, let $Λ$ be a not necessarily commutative $\mathbb{Z}_p$-algebra with finitely many elements, and let $\mathcal{F}^\bullet$ be a perfect complex of $Λ$-sheaves on the étale site of $X$. We show that the ratio $L(\mathcal{F}^\bullet,T)/L(R s_!\mathcal{F}^\bullet,T)$, which is a priori an element of $K_1(Λ[[T]])$, has a canonical preimage in $K_1(Λ[T])$. We use this to prove a version of the noncommmutative Iwasawa main conjecture for $p$-adic Lie coverings of $X$.

On a Localisation Sequence for the K-Theory of Skew Power Series Rings

Let $B=A[[t;σ,δ]]$ be a skew power series ring such that $σ$ is given by an inner automorphism of $B$. We show that a certain Waldhausen localisation sequence involving the K-theory of $B$ splits into short split exact sequences. In the case that $A$ is noetherian we show that this sequence is given by the localisation sequence for a left denominator set $S$ in $B$. If $B=Z_p[[G]]$ happens to be the Iwasawa algebra of a $p$-adic Lie group $G\isomorph H\rtimes Z_p$, this set $S$ is Venjakob's canonical Ore set. In particular, our result implies that $$ 0--> K_{n+1}(Z_p[[G]])--> K_{n+1}(Z_p[[G]]_S)--> K_n(Z_p[[G]],Z_p[[G]]_S)--> 0 $$ is split exact for each $n\geq 0$. We also prove the corresponding result for the localisation of $Z_p[[G]][\frac{1}{p}]$ with respect to the Ore set $S^*$. Both sequences play a major role in non-commutative Iwasawa theory.

On a noncommutative Iwasawa main conjecture for varieties over finite fields

In 2005 Coates, Fukaya, Kato, Sujatha, and Venjakob formulated a noncommutative Iwasawa main conjecture for l-adic Lie extensions of number fields. To provide evidence for this main conjecture we formulate and prove an analogous statement for l-adic Lie extensions of separated schemes of finite type over a finite field of characteristic prime to l.

Noncommutative Main Conjectures of Geometric Iwasawa Theory

We give a survey on noncommutative main conjectures of Iwasawa theory in a geometric setting, i.e. for separated schemes of finite type over a finite field, as stated and proved by Burns and the author. We will also comment briefly on versions of the main conjecture for function fields.

On determinant functors and $K$-theory

In this paper we introduce a new approach to determinant functors which allows us to extend Deligne's determinant functors for exact categories to Waldhausen categories, (strongly) triangulated categories, and derivators. We construct universal determinant functors in all cases by original methods which are interesting even for the known cases. Moreover, we show that the target of each universal determinant functor computes the corresponding $K$-theory in dimensions 0 and 1. As applications, we answer open questions by Maltsiniotis and Neeman on the $K$-theory of (strongly) triangulated categories and a question of Grothendieck to Knudsen on determinant functors. We also prove additivity theorems for low-dimensional $K$-theory and obtain generators and (some) relations for various $K_{1}$-groups.

On the equivariant main conjecture of Iwasawa theory

Recently, D. Burns and C. Greither (Invent. Math., 2003) deduced an equivariant version of the main conjecture for abelian number fields. This was the key to their proof of the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture. A. Huber and G. Kings (Duke Math. J., 2003) also use a variant of the Iwasawa main conjecture to prove the Tamagawa number conjecture for Dirichlet motives. We use the result of the second pair of authors and the Theorem of Ferrero-Washington to reprove the equivariant main conjecture in a slightly more general form. The main idea of the proof is essentially the same as in the paper of D. Burns and C. Greither, but we can replace complicated considerations of Iwasawa $mu$-invariants by a considerably simpler argument.
