Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relations in Chaotic Andreev Billiards

We investigate how particle-hole symmetry, quantum interference, and tunnel barriers shape thermodynamic uncertainty relations in chaotic Andreev billiards. Using random-matrix theory and the Mahaux-Weidenmüller scattering approach, we study charge conductance and shot noise across the four Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes, from the single-channel extreme quantum limit to the multichannel semiclassical regime and from ideal to opaque contacts. We characterize thermodynamic precision through two complementary ensemble observables: either by averaging the sample-resolved noise-to-conductance ratio, or from the separately averaging noise and conductance. Their pronounced discrepancy in the extreme quantum regime reveals the non-self-averaging character of mesoscopic transport and persists over a broad range of barrier transparencies. For ideal contacts, the first provides a sensitive fingerprint of the Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry class. In the opaque regime, this hierarchy changes. Despite these strong symmetry- and barrier-dependent effects, the standard thermodynamic uncertainty relation remains satisfied throughout all regimes investigated. Our results establish thermodynamic uncertainty as a symmetry-sensitive probe of universal transport in chaotic normal-superconducting systems.

Steadfast perpendicular exchange coupling in an ultrathin CoO/PtFe double-layer: strain and spin orientation

We report on the exchange coupling and magnetic properties of a strained ultrathin CoO/PtFe double-layer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The cobalt oxide growth by reactive molecular beam epitaxy on a Pt-terminated PtFe/Pt(001) surface gives rise to an hexagonal surface and a monoclinic distorted CoO 3nm film at room temperature. This distorted ultrathin CoO layer couples with the PtFe(001) layer establishing a robust perpendicular exchange bias shift. Soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy provides a full description of the spin orientations in the CoO/PtFe doublelayer. The exchange bias shift is preserved up to the Neel antiferromagnetic ordering temperature of TN=293 K. This unique example of selfsame value for blocking and ordering temperatures, yet identical to the bulk ordering temperature, is likely related to the original strain induced distortion and strengthened interaction between the two well-ordered spin layers.

Magnetic relaxation in bilayers of yttrium iron garnet/platinum due to the dynamic coupling at the interface

We show that in ferromagnetic (FM)/normal metal (NM) bilayers the dynamic coupling at the interface transfers an additional magnetic relaxation from the heavily damped motion of the conduction electron spins in the NM layer to the FM spins. While the FM relaxation rates due to two-magnon scattering and spin pumping decrease rapidly with increasing FM film thickness, the damping due to the dynamic coupling does not depend on the FM film thickness. The proposed mechanism explains the very large broadening of ferromagnetic resonance lines in thick films of yttrium iron garnet after deposition of a Pt layer.
