On the photon mass generation in Rarita-Schwinger QED

This work examines the dynamical mass generation for the photon in Rarita-Schwinger QED. We focus our attention on the cases of $ω=2,3$ dimensional spacetime. In these frameworks, it is well known that in the usual QED, the photon field (dynamically) acquires a gauge invariant mass (the Schwinger and Chern-Simons mass, respectively). We wish to scrutinize this phenomenon in terms of the Rarita-Schwinger fields. The presence of higher-derivative terms is shown as the leading contributions to the $1$PI function $\langle AA \rangle$ at one-loop order. We study the pole structure of the photon's complete propagator to unveil the main effects of the Rarita-Schwinger fields on the photon's mass. In addition, we present some remarks about the renormalizability of this model (in different dimensions) due to the presence of higher-derivative corrections at one-loop.

On the gauge invariance of the higher-derivative Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons action

In this work, we study the perturbative generation of the gauge invariant effective action for the non-Abelian gauge field in a $(2+1)$-dimensional spacetime. We present a detailed analysis of the two, three and four-point functions in order to determine the non-Abelian Chern-Simons terms (parity odd) and Yang-Mills terms (parity even). Moreover, these terms are supplemented by the higher-derivative corrections which resulted in the Alekseev-Arbuzov-Baikov effective action (parity even) plus the higher-derivative (HD) corrections to the Chern-Simons terms (parity odd). In order to highlight some features about the perturbative generation of the effective action, we present a discussion based on the dimensional analysis, which allows us to establish the general structure of the permissible terms to guarantee the gauge invariance of the higher-derivative parts.

Induced CP-violation in the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian

In this paper, we examine the behaviour of the Euler-Heisenberg effective action in the presence of a novel axial coupling among the gauge field and the fermionic matter. This axial coupling is responsible to induce a CP-violating term in the extended form of the Euler-Heisenberg effective action, which is generated naturally through the analysis of the box diagram. However, this anomalous model is not a viable extension of QED, and we explicitly show that the induced CP-violating term in the Euler-Heisenberg effective Lagrangian is obtained only by adding an axial coupling to the ordinary QED Lagrangian. In order to perform our analysis, we use a parametrization of the vector and axial coupling constants, $g_{v}$ and $g_{a}$, in terms of a new coupling $β$. Interestingly, this parametrization allows us to explore a hidden symmetry under the change of $g_{v}\leftrightarrow g_{a}$ in some diagrams. This symmetry is explicitly observed in the analysis of the box diagram, where we determine the $λ_i$ coefficients of $\cal{L}_{\rm ext.}^{\rm \small EH}=λ_{1}\cal{F}^{2}+λ_{2}\cal{G}^{2}+λ_{3}\cal{F}\cal{G}$, specially the coefficient $λ_3$ related with the CP-violating term due to the axial coupling. As a phenomenological application of the results, we compute the relevant cross section for the light by light scattering through the extended Euler-Heisenberg effective action.

Induced non-Abelian Chern-Simons effective action in very special relativity

In this paper, we study the one-loop induced effective action for a non-abelian gauge field in the very special relativity (VSR) framework in a $(2+1)$-dimensional spacetime. We show that there are new graphs contributing to the amplitudes of gluon $n$-point functions, e.g. $\langle GG\rangle$, $\langle GGG \rangle$ and $\langle GGGG \rangle$, originating from the non-local couplings generated in VSR. Using the one-loop analysis of the relevant graphs, we evaluate the VSR corrections to the induced kinetic term of the non-abelian gauge field action in three dimensions. Next, by applying the Ward identity, we determine the general tensorial structure for the amplitude of $\langle GG\rangle$ in VSR, which is valid at any order of the loop analysis. Moreover, we discuss the leading VSR corrections to the non-abelian Chern-Simons and Yang-Mills action through the analysis of $\langle GG\rangle$, $\langle GGG \rangle$ and $\langle GGGG \rangle$. In order to highlight the VSR effects, we present the VSR modification of non-abelian Chern-Simons effective action and then obtain the equation of motion for the non-abelian gauge field. As a result, we observe that the well-known pure gauge solution does not hold in the presence of VSR effects.

Impossibility of obtaining a CP-violating Euler-Heisenberg effective theory from a viable modification of QED

In this paper, we examine the CP-violating term of the Euler-Heisenberg action. We focus in the aspects related with the generation of such a term from a QED-like model in terms of the effective action approach. In particular, we show that the generation of the CP-violating term is closely related with both of vector and axial fermionic bilinears. Although, these anomalous models are not a "viable" extension of QED, we argue that the CP-violating term in the photon sector is obtained only from this class of models, and not from any fundamental field theory.

Path integral analysis of the axial anomaly in Very Special Relativity

In this note, we revise the problem of the axial anomaly in the framework of very special relativity following Fujikawa's path integral approach. We show nonperturbatively that no VSR contribution is present in the path integral measure in $(3+1)$-dimensional spacetime. Furthermore, we extend our results to $(1+1)$ dimensions, as well as to the two-dimesional curved spacetime.

Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly in VSR electrodynamics

In this paper, we examine the problem of anomalies of the fermionic currents in the context of the very special relativity (VSR). We consider the VSR contributions to the triangle amplitude $\left\langle J_{5}^λ J^μ J^ν \right\rangle $, which allows the evaluation of the vector and axial Ward identities. Actually, we observe that the VSR nonlocal effects respect the vector Ward identity, and it also contributes in a very interesting and unique way for the Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly.

Induced Maxwell-Chern-Simons Effective Action in Very Special Relativity

In this paper, we study the one-loop induced photon's effective action in the very special relativity electrodynamics in $(2+1)$ spacetime (VSR-QED$_{3}$). Due to the presence of new nonlocal couplings resulting from the VSR gauge symmetry, we have additional graphs contributing to the $\langle AA\rangle$ and $\langle AAA \rangle$ amplitudes. From these contributions, we discuss the VSR generalization of the Abelian Maxwell-Chern-Simons Lagrangian, consisting in the dynamical part and the Chern-Simons-like self-couplings, respectively. We use the VSR-Chern-Simons electrodynamics to discuss some non-Ohmic behavior on topological materials, in particular VSR effects on Hall's conductivity. In the dynamical part of the effective action, we observe the presence of a UV/IR mixing, due to the entanglement of the VSR nonlocal effects to the quantum higher-derivative terms. Furthermore, in the self-coupling aspect, we verify the validity of the Furry's theorem in the VSR-QED$_{3}$ explicitly.

One-loop Photon's Effective Action in the Noncommutative Scalar QED$_{3}$

In this paper, we consider the evaluation of the effective action for photons coupled to charged scalar fields in the framework of a $(2+1)$-dimensional noncommutative spacetime. In order to determine the noncommutative Maxwell Lagrangian density, we follow a perturbative approach, by integrating out the charged scalar fields, to compute the respective graphs for the vev's $\left\langle AA \right\rangle$, $\left\langle AAA \right\rangle$ and $\left\langle AAAA \right\rangle$. Surprisingly, it is shown that these contributions are planar and that, in the highly noncommutative limit, correspond to the Maxwell effective action and its higher-derivative corrections. It is explicitly verified that the one-loop effective action is gauge invariant, as well as under discrete symmetries: parity, time reversal and charge conjugation. Moreover, a comparison of the main results with the noncommutative QED$_{3}$ is established. In particular, the main difference is the absence of parity violating terms in the photon's effective action coming from integrating out the charged scalar fields.

Thermal effects of Very Special Relativity Quantum Electrodynamics

In this paper we compute the high-temperature effective Lagrangian for the quantum electrodynamics defined in the framework of Very Special Relativity (VSR). The main aspect of the VSR setting is that it modifies the gauge invariance, admitting now different types of interactions appearing in a nonlocal form. In order to explore the richness of these new couplings, we employ the usual Matsubara imaginary-time formalism to evaluate the effective Lagrangian at one and two-loop order. We illustrate the leading VSR Lorentz violation modifications by computing high-temperature internal energy density and establishing a comparison with the expected contribution.

Noncommutative Jackiw-Pi model: One-loop renormalization

In this paper, we study the quantum behavior of the noncommutative Jackiw-Pi model. After establishing the Becchi-Rouet-Store-Tyutin (BRST) invariant action, the perturbative renormalizability is discussed, allowing us to introduce the renormalized mass and gauge coupling. We then proceed to compute the one-loop correction to the basic 1PI functions, necessary to determine the renormalized parameters (mass and charge), next we discuss the physical behaviour of these parameters.

Perturbative effective action for the photon in noncommutative QED$_{2}$ and exactness of the Schwinger mass

In this paper, we discuss the noncommutative QED$_2$ in the S-matrix framework. We are interested in perturbatively proving that the exact Schwinger mass $μ^2=\frac{e^2}π$ does not receive noncommutative corrections to any order in loop expansion. In this sense, the S-matrix approach is useful since it allows us to work with the effective action $Γ[A]$ (interaction term) to compute the corresponding gauge field 1PI two-point function at higher orders. Furthermore, by means of $α^*$-cohomology, we generalize the QED$_2$ S-matrix analysis in the Moyal star product to all translation-invariant star products.

One-loop $\mathbfβ$ function of noncommutative scalar $QED_{4}$

In this paper, we consider the $β$ function at one-loop approximation for noncommutative scalar QED. The renormalization of the full theory, including the basic vertices, and the renormalization group equation are fully established. Next, the complete set of the one-loop diagrams corresponding to the first-order radiative corrections to the basic functions is considered: gauge, charged scalar and ghost fields self-energies, and three- and four-point vertex functions $\left<ϕ^†ϕA\right>$ and $\left<ϕ^†ϕA A\right>$, respectively. We pay special attention to the noncommutative contributions to the renormalization constants. To conclude, the one-loop $β$ function of noncommutative scalar QED is then computed and comparison to known results is presented.

Three-dimensional noncommutative Yukawa theory: Induced effective action and propagating modes

In this paper, we establish the analysis of noncommutative Yukawa theory, encompassing neutral and charged scalar fields. We approach the analysis by considering carefully the derivation of the respective effective actions. Hence, based on the obtained results, we compute the one-loop contributions to the neutral and charged scalar field self-energy, as well as to the Chern-Simons polarization tensor. In order to properly define the behaviour of the quantum fields, the known UV/IR mixing due to radiative corrections is analysed in the one-loop physical dispersion relation of the scalar and gauge fields.

Noncommutative Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory (I): One-loop dispersion relation analysis

In this paper, we study the three-dimensional noncommutative Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. In the present analysis, a complete account for the gauge field two-point function renormalizability is presented and physical significant quantities are carefully established. The respective form factor expressions from the gauge field self-energy are computed at one-loop order. More importantly, an analysis of the gauge field dispersion relation, in search of possible noncommutative anomalies and infrared finiteness, is performed for three special cases, with particular interest in the highly noncommutative limit.

Higher derivative Chern-Simons extension in the noncommutative QED$_{3}$

The noncommutative (NC) massive quantum electrodynamics in $2+1$ dimensions is considered. We show explicitly that the one-loop effective action arising from the integrating out the fermionic fields leads to the ordinary NC Chern-Simons and NC Maxwell action at the long wavelength limit (large fermion mass). In the next to leading order, the higher-derivative contributions to NC Chern-Simons are obtained. Moreover, the gauge invariance of the outcome action is carefully discussed. We then consider the higher-derivative modification into the pure NC Chern-Simons Lagrangian density and evaluate the one-loop correction to the pole of the photon propagator.

Higgs production in $e^{-}e^{+}$ collisions as a probe of noncommutativity

We examine the sensitivity of the angular distribution of the Higgs boson in the process of $e^+e^-\to Z H$ and the total cross section in the minimal noncommutative standard model (mNCSM) framework to set lower limit on the noncommutative charactristic scale ($Λ$). Contrary to the standard model case, in this process the Higgs boson tends to be emitted anisotropically in the transverse plane. Based on this fact, the profile likelihood ratio is used to set lower limit on $Λ$. The lower limit is presented as a function of the integrated luminosity. We show that at the center-of-mass energy of 1.5 TeV and with 500 fb$^{-1}$ of data, the noncommutative characteristic energy scale $Λ$ can be excluded up to 1.2 TeV.

Gauge Invariant Cutoff QED

A hidden generalized gauge symmetry of a cutoff QED is used to show the renormalizability of QED. In particular, it is shown that corresponding Ward identities are valid all along the renormalization group flow. The exact Renormalization Group flow equation corresponding to the effective action of a cutoff lambda phi^4 theory is also derived. Generalization to any gauge group is indicated.
