Spin-1/2 XX chains with modulated Gamma interaction

We study the spin-1/2 XX chain with a modulated Gamma interaction (GI), which results from the superposition of uniform and staggered Gamma terms. We diagonalize the Hamiltonian of the model exactly using the Fermionization technique. We then probe the energy gap and identify the gapped and gapless regions. We also examine the staggered chiral, staggered nematic and dimer order parameters to determine the different phases of the ground state phase diagram with their respective long-range orders. Our findings indicate that the model undergoes first-order, second-order, gapless-gapless, and gapped-gapped phase transitions.

Simplified-DPN treatment of the neutron transport equation

In this paper the simplified double-spherical harmonics SDPN, approximation of the neutron transport equation is proposed. The SDPN equations are derived from the multi-group DPN equations for N=1,2,3 (comparable to the SP3, SP5, and SP7 equations, respectively), and are converted into the form of second order multi-group diffusion equations. The finite element method with the variational approach is then used to numerically solve these equations. The computational performance of the SDPN method is compared with the SPN on several fixed-source and criticality test problems. The results show that the SDPN formulation generally results in parameters like criticality eigenvalue, disadvantage factors, absorption rate, etc. more accurately than the SPN, even up to an order of magnitude more precise, while the computational effort is the same for both methods.

Molecular dynamic simulation on the density of titanium dioxide and silver water-based nanofluids

This study utilizes molecular dynamics simulations to scrutinize the influence of type and volume fraction of nanoparticle on the density of nanofluids, i.e. silver (as a hydrophilic case) and titanium dioxide (as a hydrophobic case) water-based nanofluids. Ionic structure of TiO2 distinguishes the solid-liquid interactions with those in silver-water nanofluid. The thickness of nanolayer is estimated from density profile formed around the nanoparticle and is included in the density calculation. It is found that the type of interatomic potential between the nanoparticle and surrounding water can highly affect the thickness of nanolayer. The hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of nanoparticle is of great importance in nanolayer density and its thickness. It is observed that the difference between the traditional binary mixture and the ternary mixture formula for calculating the density of nanofluid increases by increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticle. This indicates that the effect of nanolayer gets more considerable at high volume fractions.

Some inequalities on $h$-convex functions

In this paper, we state some characterizations of $h$-convex function is defined on a convex set in a linear space. By doing so, we extend the Jensen-Mercer inequality for $h$-convex function. We will also define $h$-convex function for operators on a Hilbert space and present the operator version of the Jensen-Mercer inequality. Lastly, we propound the complementary inequality of Jensen's inequality for $h$-convex functions.

Quantum state tomography across the exceptional point in a single dissipative qubit

Open systems with gain and loss, described by non-trace-preserving, non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, have been a subject of intense research recently. The effect of exceptional-point degeneracies on the dynamics of classical systems has been observed through remarkable phenomena such as the parity-time symmetry breaking transition, asymmetric mode switching, and optimal energy transfer. On the other hand, consequences of an exceptional point for quantum evolution and decoherence are hitherto unexplored. Here, we use post-selection on a three-level superconducting transmon circuit with tunable Rabi drive, dissipation, and detuning to carry out quantum state tomography of a single dissipative qubit in the vicinity of its exceptional point. Quantum state tomography reveals the PT symmetry breaking transition at zero detuning, decoherence enhancement at finite detuning, and a quantum signature of the exceptional point in the qubit relaxation state. Our observations demonstrate rich phenomena associated with non-Hermitian physics such as non-orthogonality of eigenstates in a fully quantum regime and open routes to explore and harness exceptional point degeneracies for enhanced sensing and quantum information processing.
