The Sharp Rate of Probabilistically Strong Convergence to the KPZ Equation

One of the most common descriptions of solutions of singular SPDEs is their characterisation as the limit of solutions of renormalised smooth random PDEs. We quantify the speed of this convergence in the case of the KPZ equation. In particular, we show that the na\"ive guess that the rate is given by the distance of the noise regularity from the endpoint regularity for well-posedness is not correct. Instead, we obtain convergence at the larger rate $1/2$ and show that this rate is sharp. This is achieved by considering the equation satisfied by the rescaled error, which is critical for variance blowup, and showing that this equation has a limit given by an affine linear singular SPDE driven by a new, independent noise. This result can be alternatively interpreted as identifying the asymptotic size and law of fluctuations of the solutions of the KPZ equation driven by mollified noise around their singular limit.

Overcoming the spatial order barrier for nonlinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise

We introduce a fully discrete numerical scheme for semilinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise that overcomes the previous order barrier for the spatial convergence rate. The scheme achieves a strong convergence rate of $M^{-1+\epsilon}$ in time and $N^{-3/2+\epsilon}$ in space for any $\epsilon>0$, where $M^{-1}$ and $N^{-1}$ are the temporal, respectively the spatial, meshsizes. This substantially improves the standard spatial error bounds of order $N^{-1/2}$ in the literature.

It\^o perspective on variance renormalisation

We show that the It\^o solutions of the nonlinear stochastic heat equation $$ \partial_t u^\varepsilon- \Delta u^\varepsilon =\varepsilon^{3/4} g (u^\varepsilon) \nabla \xi_\varepsilon, $$ where $ \xi_\varepsilon$ denotes the mollification in space at scale $\varepsilon>0$ of a space-time white noise $\xi$, converge in law, as $\varepsilon\to 0$, to the solution of the stochastic heat equation with right-hand side $cg'g(u)\xi$ with a constant $c>0$. Since the noise $\nabla\xi$ is supercritical, the small prefactor is not unexpected to obtain a limit, but the exponent $3/4$ is not predicted by naive scaling arguments. The case $g(u)=u$, modulo a Cole-Hopf transform, corresponds to the result of [Hai25] for the KPZ equation. Our argument is relatively short and relies solely on stochastic analytic techniques.

Variance renormalisation in regularity structures -- the case of $2d$ gPAM

We consider the variance renormalisation of a singular SPDE for which a Da Prato-Debussche trick is not applicable. The example taken is the $2$-dimensional generalised parabolic Anderson model (gPAM), driven by a much rougher than white noise, necessitating both a multiplicative and an additive renormalisation. To handle the discrepancy between the regularity structures of the approximate and the limiting equations, we consider models that lift $0$ noises to nontrivial models, in analogy with ``pure area'' from rough paths. The convergence to such a model is shown for the BPHZ model over the vanishing noise via graphical computations.

Uniqueness for stochastic differential equations in Hilbert spaces with irregular drift

We present a versatile framework to study strong existence and uniqueness for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) in Hilbert spaces with irregular drift. We consider an SDE in a separable Hilbert space $H$ \begin{equation*} dX_t= (A X_t + b(X_t))dt +(-A)^{-\gamma/2}dW_t,\quad X_0=x_0 \in H, \end{equation*} where $A$ is a self-adjoint negative definite operator with purely atomic spectrum, $W$ is a cylindrical Wiener process, $b$ is $\alpha$-H\"older continuous function $H\to H$, and a nonnegative parameter $\gamma$ such that the stochastic convolution takes values in $H$. We show that this equation has a unique strong solution provided that $\alpha > \alpha^*(\gamma)$, with an explicit function $\alpha^*$ that takes values in $(0,1)$ for all $\gamma\in[0,3)$. This substantially extends the seminal work of Da Prato and Flandoli (2010) as no structural assumption on $b$ is imposed. The range of admissible $\alpha$ is also extended. To obtain this result, we do not use infinite-dimensional Kolmogorov equations but instead develop a new technique combining L\^e's theory of stochastic sewing in Hilbert spaces, Gaussian analysis, and a method of Lasry and Lions for approximation in Hilbert spaces.

Regularisation by Gaussian rough path lifts of fractional Brownian motions

The aim of the paper is to show the probabilistically strong well-posedness of rough differential equations with distributional drifts driven by the Gaussian rough path lift of fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(1/3,1/2)$. We assume that the noise is nondegenerate and the drift lies in the Besov-H\"older space $\mathcal{C}^\alpha$ for some $\alpha>1-1/(2H)$. The latter condition matches the one of the additive noise case, thereby providing a multiplicative analogue of Catellier-Gubinelli in the regime $H\in(1/3,1/2)$.

Weak coupling limit of KPZ with rougher than white noise

We consider the KPZ equation in $1$ spatial dimension with noise that is rougher than white by an exponent $\gamma>1/4$. Under a weak coupling limit, formally removing the nonlinearity from the equation, we show using regularity structures that the renormalised solutions converge to a Gaussian limit that is different from the solution of the linear part of the equation. The regime of this effect has a nontrivial overlap with the subcritical regime $\gamma<1/2$.

Higher order approximation of nonlinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise

We consider strong approximations of $1+1$-dimensional stochastic PDEs driven by additive space-time white noise. It has been long proposed (Davie-Gaines '01, Jentzen-Kloeden '08), as well as observed in simulations, that approximation schemes based on samples from the stochastic convolution, rather than from increments of the underlying Wiener processes, should achieve significantly higher convergence rates with respect to the temporal timestep. The present paper proves this. For a large class of nonlinearities, with possibly superlinear growth, a temporal rate of (almost) $1$ is proven, a major improvement on the rate $1/4$ that is known to be optimal for schemes based on Wiener increments. The spatial rate remains (almost) $1/2$ as it is standard in the literature.

Analytically weak solutions to stochastic heat equations with spatially rough noise

In [HHL+17] the authors showed existence and uniqueness of solutions to the nonlinear one-dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by a Gaussian noise that is white in time and rougher than white in space (in particular, its covariance is not a measure). Here we present a simple alternative to derive such results by considering the equations in the analytically weak sense, using either the variational approach or Krylov's $L^p$-theory. Various improvements are obtained as corollaries.

Quasi-generalised KPZ equation

We derive the renormalised equation for the quasi-generalised KPZ equation with space-time white noise. We complement the program initiated by Gerencs\'er and Hairer for solving quasi-linear equations using regularity structures by an algebraic machinery that gives a systematic tool to remove non-local counterterms and provide a precise expression of the renormalised equation that is consistent with the semilinear case. The solution theory satisfies the chain rule and a natural notion of It\^o isometry, which can be combined to obtain global in time solution.

A central limit theorem for the Euler method for SDEs with irregular drifts

The goal of this article is to establish a central limit theorem for the Euler-Maruyama scheme approximating multidimensional SDEs with elliptic Brownian diffusion, under very mild regularity requirements on the drift coefficients. When the drift is H\"older continuous, we show that the limiting law of the rescaled fluctuations around the true solution is characterised as the unique solution of a hybrid Young-It\^o differential equation. When the drift has positive Sobolev regularity, this limit is characterised by the solution of a transformed SDE. Our result is an extension of the results of Jacod-Kurtz-Protter (1991, 1998) in which SDEs with differentiable coefficients were considered. To compensate for the lack of regularity of the drifts, we utilize the regularisation effect from the non-degenerate noise.

The Milstein scheme for singular SDEs with H\"older continuous drift

We study the $L^p$ rate of convergence of the Milstein scheme for SDEs when the drift coefficients possess only H\"older regularity. If the diffusion is elliptic and sufficiently regular, we obtain rates consistent with the additive case. The proof relies on regularisation by noise techniques, particularly stochastic sewing, which in turn requires (at least asymptotically) sharp estimates on the law of the Milstein scheme, which may be of independent interest.

Strong convergence of parabolic rate $1$ of discretisations of stochastic Allen-Cahn-type equations

Consider the approximation of stochastic Allen-Cahn-type equations (i.e. $1+1$-dimensional space-time white noise-driven stochastic PDEs with polynomial nonlinearities $F$ such that $F(\pm \infty)=\mp \infty$) by a fully discrete space-time explicit finite difference scheme. The consensus in literature, supported by rigorous lower bounds, is that strong convergence rate $1/2$ with respect to the parabolic grid meshsize is expected to be optimal. We show that one can reach almost sure convergence rate $1$ (and no better) when measuring the error in appropriate negative Besov norms, by temporarily `pretending' that the SPDE is singular.

Solution theory of fractional SDEs in complete subcritical regimes

We consider stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by a fractional Brownian motion with a drift coefficient that is allowed to be arbitrarily close to criticality in a scaling sense. We develop a comprehensive solution theory that includes strong existence, path-by-path uniqueness, existence of a solution flow of diffeomorphisms, Malliavin differentiability and $\rho$-irregularity. As a consequence, we can also treat McKean-Vlasov, transport and continuity equations.

Path-by-path regularisation through multiplicative noise in rough, Young, and ordinary differential equations

Differential equations perturbed by multiplicative fractional Brownian motions are considered. Depending on the value of the Hurst parameter $H$, the resulting equation is pathwise viewed as an ODE, YDE, or RDE. In all three regimes we show regularisation by noise phenomena by proving the strongest kind of well-posedness with irregular drift: strong existence and path-by-path uniqueness. In the Young and smooth regime $H>1/2$ the condition on the drift coefficient is optimal in the sense that it agrees with the one known for the additive case [CG16, Ger22]. In the rough regime $H\in(1/3,1/2)$ we assume positive but arbitrarily small drift regularity for strong well-posedness, while for distributional drift we obtain weak existence.

Strong rate of convergence of the Euler scheme for SDEs with irregular drift driven by Levy noise

We study the strong rate of convergence of the Euler--Maruyama scheme for a multidimensional stochastic differential equation (SDE) $$ dX_t = b(X_t) \, dt + dL_t, $$ with irregular $\beta$-H\"older drift, $\beta > 0$, driven by a L\'evy process with exponent $\alpha \in (0, 2]$. For $\alpha \in [2/3, 2]$, we obtain strong $L_p$ and almost sure convergence rates in the entire range $\beta > 1 - \alpha/2$, where the SDE is known to be strongly well-posed. This significantly improves the current state of the art, both in terms of convergence rate and the range of $\alpha$. Notably, the obtained convergence rate does not depend on $p$, which is a novelty even in the case of smooth drifts. As a corollary of the obtained moment-independent error rate, we show that the Euler--Maruyama scheme for such SDEs converges almost surely and obtain an explicit convergence rate. Additionally, as a byproduct of our results, we derive strong $L_p$ convergence rates for approximations of nonsmooth additive functionals of a L\'evy process. Our technique is based on a new extension of stochastic sewing arguments and L\^e's quantitative John-Nirenberg inequality.

Optimal rate of convergence for approximations of SPDEs with non-regular drift

A fully discrete finite difference scheme for stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by a $1+1$-dimensional white noise is studied. The optimal strong rate of convergence is proved without posing any regularity assumption on the non-linear reaction term. The proof relies on stochastic sewing techniques.

Boundary renormalisation of SPDEs

We consider the continuum parabolic Anderson model (PAM) and the dynamical $\Phi^4$ equation on the $3$-dimensional cube with boundary conditions. While the Dirichlet solution theories are relatively standard, the case of Neumann/Robin boundary conditions gives rise to a divergent boundary renormalisation. Furthermore for $\Phi^4_3$ a `boundary triviality' result is obtained: if one approximates the equation with Neumann boundary conditions and the usual bulk renormalisation, then the limiting process coincides with the one obtained using Dirichlet boundary conditions.
