Equivariant Framed 1-Manifolds and the Pontryagin-Thom Isomorphism

The Pontryagin-Thom theorem gives an isomorphism between the cobordism group of framed $n$-dimensional manifolds, $\omega_n$, and the $n^{th}$ stable homotopy group of the sphere spectrum, $\pi_n(\mathbb{S})$. The equivariant analogue of this theorem, gives an isomorphism between the equivariant cobordism group of $V$-framed $G$-manifolds, $\omega_V^G$, and the $V^{th}$ equivariant stable homotopy group of the $G$-sphere spectrum, $\pi_V^G(\mathbb{S})$, for a finite group $G$ and a $G$-representation, $V$. In this paper, we explicitly identify the images of each element of $\omega_1^{C_2}$ and $\omega_\sigma^{C_2}$ in $\pi_1^{C_2}(\mathbb{S})$ and $\pi_\sigma^{C_2}(\mathbb{S})$ under the equivariant Pontryagin-Thom isomorphism.

Comparing Periodic Point Invariants for Parameterized Families of Maps

We compare different periodic point invariants for families of maps parameterized over a compact manifold. Malkiewich and Ponto showed that, in the case of a single map, the Fuller trace is equivalent to the collection of Reidmeister traces of iterates. In this paper, we show that, in contrast to the case of a single map, the fiberwise Fuller trace is a strictly more sensitive invariant than the collection of fiberwise Reidemeister traces of iterates. This resolves a conjecture of Malkiewich and Ponto.

The Pontryagin-Thom theorem for families of framed equivariant manifolds

The Pontryagin-Thom theorem gives an isomorphism from the cobordism group of framed $n$-manifolds to the $n$th stable homotopy group of the sphere spectrum. In this paper, we prove the generalization of the Pontryagin-Thom theorem for families of framed equivariant manifolds parameterized over a compact base space.

Scissors congruence K-theory for equivariant manifolds

We introduce a scissors congruence $K$-theory spectrum which lifts the equivariant scissors congruence groups for compact $G$-manifolds with boundary, and we show that on $\pi_0$ this is the source of a spectrum level lift of the Burnside ring valued equivariant Euler characteristic of a compact $G$-manifold. We also show that the equivariant scissors congruence groups for varying subgroups assemble into a Mackey functor, which is a shadow of a conjectural higher genuine equivariant structure.

Orlicz-Sobolev inequalities and the Dirichlet problem for infinitely degenerate elliptic operators

We investigate a connection between solvability of the Dirichlet problem for an infinitely degenerate elliptic operator and the validity of an Orlicz-Sobolev inequality in the associated subunit metric space. For subelliptic operators it is known that the classical Sobolev inequality is sufficient and almost necessary for the Dirichlet problem to be solvable with a quantitative bound on the solution [11]. When the degeneracy is of infinite type, a weaker Orlicz-Sobolev inequality seems to be the right substitute [7]. In this paper we investigate this connection further and reduce the gap between necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of the Dirichlet problem.

Configuration Spaces for the Working Undergraduate

Configuration spaces form a rich class of topological objects which are not usually presented to an undergraduate audience. Our aim is to present configuration spaces in a manner accessible to the advanced undergraduate. We begin with a slight introduction to the topic before giving necessary background on algebraic topology. We then discuss configuration spaces of the Euclidean plane and the braid groups they give rise to. Lastly, we discuss configuration spaces of graphs and the various techniques which have been developed to pursue their study.
