A Three-Regime Theorem for Flow-Firing

Graphical chip-firing is a discrete dynamical system where chips are placed on the vertices of a graph and exchanged via simple firing moves. Recent work has sought to generalize chip-firing on graphs to higher dimensions, wherein graphs are replaced by cellular complexes and chip firing becomes flow-rerouting along the faces of the complex. Given such a system, it is natural to ask (1) whether this firing process terminates and (2) if it terminates uniquely (e.g. is confluent). In the graphical case, these questions were definitively answered by Bjorner--Lovasz--Shor, who developed three regimes which completely determine if a given system will terminate. Building on the work of Duval--Klivans--Martin and Felzenszwalb-Klivans, we answer these questions in a context called flow-firing, where the cellular complexes are 2-dimensional.

Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ holds for some Horospherical Varieties of Picard Rank 1

Property $\mathcal{O}$ for an arbitrary complex, Fano manifold $X$, is a statement about the eigenvalues of the linear operator obtained from the quantum multiplication of the anticanonical class of $X$. Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ is a conjecture that Property $\mathcal{O}$ holds for any Fano variety. Pasquier listed the smooth non-homogeneous horospherical varieties of Picard rank 1 into five classes. Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ has already been shown to hold for the odd symplectic Grassmannians which is one of these classes. We will show that Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ holds for two more classes and an example in a third class of Pasquier's list. The theory of Perron-Frobenius reduces our proofs to be graph-theoretic in nature.

MedMeshCNN -- Enabling MeshCNN for Medical Surface Models

Background and objective: MeshCNN is a recently proposed Deep Learning framework that drew attention due to its direct operation on irregular, non-uniform 3D meshes. On selected benchmarking datasets, it outperformed state-of-the-art methods within classification and segmentation tasks. Especially, the medical domain provides a large amount of complex 3D surface models that may benefit from processing with MeshCNN. However, several limitations prevent outstanding performances of MeshCNN on highly diverse medical surface models. Within this work, we propose MedMeshCNN as an expansion for complex, diverse, and fine-grained medical data. Methods: MedMeshCNN follows the functionality of MeshCNN with a significantly increased memory efficiency that allows retaining patient-specific properties during the segmentation process. Furthermore, it enables the segmentation of pathological structures that often come with highly imbalanced class distributions. Results: We tested the performance of MedMeshCNN on a complex part segmentation task of intracranial aneurysms and their surrounding vessel structures and reached a mean Intersection over Union of 63.24\%. The pathological aneurysm is segmented with an Intersection over Union of 71.4\%. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that MedMeshCNN enables the application of MeshCNN on complex, fine-grained medical surface meshes. The imbalanced class distribution deriving from the pathological finding is considered by MedMeshCNN and patient-specific properties are mostly retained during the segmentation process.

Galkin's lower bound conjecture holds for the Grassmannian

Let Gr$(k,n)$ be the Grassmannian. The quantum multiplication by the first Chern class $c_1({\rm Gr}(k,n))$ induces an endomorphism $\hat c_1$ of the finite-dimensional vector space $\mathrm{QH}^*({\rm Gr}(k,n))_{|q=1}$ specialized at $q=1$. Our main result is a case that a conjecture by Galkin holds. It states that the largest real eigenvalue of $\hat{c}_1$ is greater than or equal to $\dim {\rm Gr}(k,n)$+1 with equality if and only if Gr$(k,n)=\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$.

On the asymptotic behavior of the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function

Kostant's partition function counts the number of distinct ways to express a weight of a classical Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ as a sum of positive roots of $\mathfrak{g}$. We refer to each of these expressions as decompositions of a weight. Our main result considers an infinite family of weights, irrespective of Lie type, for which we establish a closed formula for the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function and then prove that the (normalized) distribution of the number of positive roots in the decomposition of any of these weights converges to a Gaussian distribution as the rank of the Lie algebra goes to infinity. We also extend these results to the highest root of the classical Lie algebras and we end our analysis with some directions for future research.

When is the $q$-multiplicity of a weight a power of $q$?

Berenshtein and Zelevinskii provided an exhaustive list of pairs of weights $(\lambda,\mu)$ of simple Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$ (up to Dynkin diagram isomorphism) for which the multiplicity of the weight $\mu$ in the representation of $\mathfrak{g}$ with highest weight $\lambda$ is equal to one. Using Kostant's weight multiplicity formula we describe and enumerate the contributing terms to the multiplicity for subsets of these pairs of weights and show that, in these cases, the cardinality of these contributing sets is enumerated by (multiples of) Fibonacci numbers. We conclude by using these results to compute the associated $q$-multiplicity for the pairs of weights considered, and conjecture that in all cases the $q$-multiplicity of such pairs of weights is given by a power of $q$.

Demazure Flags, Chebyshev polynomials, Partial and Mock theta functions

We study the level $m$--Demazure flag of a level $\ell$--Demazure module for $\frak{sl}_2[t]$. We define the generating series $A_n^{\ell \rightarrow m}(x,q)$ which encodes the $q$--multiplicity of the level $m$ Demazure module of weight $n$. We establish two recursive formulae for these functions. We show that the specialization to $q=1$ is a rational function involving the Chebyshev polynomials. We give a closed form for $A_n^{\ell \rightarrow \ell+1}(x,q)$ and prove that it is given by a rational function. In the case when $m=\ell+1$ and $\ell=1,2$, we relate the generating series to partial theta series. We also study the specializations $A_n^{1\rightarrow 3}(q^k,q)$ and relate them to the fifth order mock-theta functions of Ramanujan.

Modules with Demazure Flags and Character Formulae

In this paper we study a family of finite-dimensional graded representations of the current algebra of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ which are indexed by partitions. We show that these representations admit a flag where the successive quotients are Demazure modules which occur in a level $\ell$-integrable module for $A_1^1$ as long as $\ell$ is large. We associate to each partition and to each $\ell$ an edge-labeled directed graph which allows us to describe in a combinatorial way the graded multiplicity of a given level $\ell$-Demazure module in the filtration. In the special case of the partition $1^s$ and $\ell=2$, we give a closed formula for the graded multiplicity of level two Demazure modules in a level one Demazure module. As an application, we use our result along with the results of Naoi and Lenart et al., to give the character of a $\mathfrak{g}$-stable level one Demazure module associated to $B_n^1$ as an explicit combination of suitably specialized Macdonald polynomials. In the case of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, we also study the filtration of the level two Demazure module by level three Demazure modules and compute the numerical filtration multiplicities and show that the graded multiplicites are related to (variants of) partial theta series.
