The SU(N) Holstein Model

From the condensed matter physics perspective, the most natural single orbital tight-binding Hamiltonians, and hence the most widely studied, contain two fermionic species, corresponding to spin up and spin down electrons. In cold atom systems, however, SU(N) symmetry, in which $N > 2$ fermionic species reside within a single band, also occurs. In order to understand such experiments, the SU(N) Hubbard model has been increasingly studied. Here we present determinant Quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the SU(N) {\it Holstein} Hamiltonian, in which $N$ fermionic species couple to a single local phonon mode. We show that at half filling it has an insulating charge density wave phase (CDW) at low temperatures, in which empty sites alternate with sites with $N$ particles. We determine the $N=3$ CDW phase diagram in the temperature, $T$, versus electron-phonon coupling, $\alpha$, plane at fixed phonon frequency $\omega_0$ and half-filling $\rho=1.5$. The critical temperature $T_c$ for $N=3$ can be as high as twice the maximum attainable for $N=2$. We also obtain the $N$ dependence of $T_c$ for a representative, fixed, $\omega_0$ and $\alpha$.

ViP-VL: Vietnamese Self-supervised Speech Pretraining Model with Vector-Quantization Learning

We present ViP-VL, an efficient Vietnamese Self-supervised speech Pretraining model leveraging Vector-quantization Learning. To bridge the gap between high-resolution audio and efficient processing, ViP-VL incorporates Acoustic Stacking and Receptive Field Alignment to enable a synchronized 8x subsampling rate within the ChunkFormer architecture, while further enhancing representation robustness through a specialized Mask Selection Strategy during pretraining on the BEST-RQ framework. Pretrained on 17,000 hours of unlabeled Vietnamese speech, our model establishes new state-of-the-art results across four major downstream tasks: Automatic Speech Recognition, Speech Emotion Recognition, Dialect Classification, and Speaker Verification. To facilitate future research and the development of high-performance Vietnamese speech technologies, we publicly release our pretrained weights and implementation at github.com/khanld/chunkformer.

Spin and Charge Conductivity in the Square Lattice Fermi-Hubbard Model

Dynamical properties are notoriously difficult to compute in numerical treatments of the Fermi-Hubbard model, especially in two spatial dimensions. However, they are essential in providing us with insight into some of the most important and less well-understood phases of the model, such as the pseudogap and strange metal phases at relatively high temperatures, or unconventional superconductivity at lower temperatures, away from the commensurate filling. Here, we use the numerical linked-cluster expansions to compute spin and charge optical conductivities of the model at different temperatures and strong interaction strengths via the exact real-time-dependent correlation functions of the current operators. We mitigate systematic errors associated with having a limited access to the long-time behavior of the correlators by introducing fits and allowing for non-zero Drude weights when appropriate. We compare our results to available data from optical lattice experiments and find that the Drude contributions can account for the theory-experiment gap in the DC spin conductivity of the model at half filling in the strong-coupling region. Our method helps paint a more complete picture of the conductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model and opens the door to studying dynamical properties of quantum lattice models in the thermodynamic limit.

Vector magnetometry using cavity-enhanced microwave readout in nitrogen-vacancy diamond

We demonstrate $4\pi$-steradian vector magnetic field sensing using an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a single-crystal diamond coupled to a microwave (MW) cavity. The MW cavity enhances the spin-photon coupling which enables efficient, high-contrast spin-state readout via MW interrogation and removes the need for bulky optical collection components. An applied AC bias magnetic field lifts the zero-field degeneracy of the four crystallographic NV orientations, allowing each orientation to be individually addressed and used for vector reconstruction of the magnetic field. The resulting magnetometer has a 40\% contrast (20x higher than typical for optical spin-ensemble readout) and achieves a single-axis sensitivity of 250 pT/$\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ which is flat from DC to 1 kHz. Noise models of the composite spin-cavity system establish MW amplitude noise as the dominant noise source and predict a thermal noise limit of 2 pT/$\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$.

Improving Code Switching with Supervised Fine Tuning and GELU Adapters

There are few code switching datasets, labeled or unlabled, that exist today. As a result, ASR requires new methods to utilize the vast monolingual data and models that exist. This paper uses OpenAI's open source ASR model, Whisper, which has been pre-trained on 680K hours of audio to perform monolingual ASR tasks. In Part 1, this paper examines how exploiting Whisper's monolingual ability to individually tokenize training text, called "Switching Tokenizers Method", improves transcription accuracy. In Part 2, we combine the Switching Tokenizers Method from part 1 and train a GELU based adapter on the encoder. These two methods reduced Total Mixed Error Rate (MER) to 9.4% for the ASCEND dataset, 6% for SEAME devman and 9.7% for SEAME devsge, outperforming current SoTA methods.

nuReality: A VR environment for research of pedestrian and autonomous vehicle interactions

We present nuReality, a virtual reality 'VR' environment designed to test the efficacy of vehicular behaviors to communicate intent during interactions between autonomous vehicles 'AVs' and pedestrians at urban intersections. In this project we focus on expressive behaviors as a means for pedestrians to readily recognize the underlying intent of the AV's movements. VR is an ideal tool to use to test these situations as it can be immersive and place subjects into these potentially dangerous scenarios without risk. nuReality provides a novel and immersive virtual reality environment that includes numerous visual details (road and building texturing, parked cars, swaying tree limbs) as well as auditory details (birds chirping, cars honking in the distance, people talking). In these files we present the nuReality environment, its 10 unique vehicle behavior scenarios, and the Unreal Engine and Autodesk Maya source files for each scenario. The files are publicly released as open source at www.nuReality.org, to support the academic community studying the critical AV-pedestrian interaction.

Photoluminescence decomposition analysis: a technique to characterize NV creation in diamond

Treatment of lab-grown diamond by electron irradiation and annealing has enabled quantum sensors based on negatively-charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV$^\text{-}$) centers to demonstrate record sensitivities. \cite{Clevenson2015,Wolf2015,Barry2016,Chatzidrosos2017}. Here we investigate the irradiation and annealing process applied to 28 diamond samples using a new ambient-temperature, all-optical approach. As the presence of the neutrally-charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV$^\text{0}$) center is deleterious to sensor performance, this photoluminescence decomposition analysis (PDA) is first employed to determine the concentration ratio of NV$^\text{-}$ to NV$^0$ in diamond samples from the measured photoluminescence spectrum. The analysis hinges on (i) isolating each NV charge state's emission spectrum and (ii) measuring the NV$^\text{-}$ to NV$^0$ emission ratio, which is found to be 2.5$\pm$0.5 under low-intensity 532 nm illumination. Using the PDA method, we measure the effects of irradiation and annealing on conversion of substitutional nitrogen to NV centers. Combining these measurements with a phenomenological model for diamond irradiation and annealing, we extract an estimated monovacancy creation rate of $0.52\pm 0.26$ cm$^{\text{-1}}$ for 1 MeV electron irradiation and an estimated monovacancy diffusion coefficient of 1.8 nm$^2$/s at 850~$^\circ$C. Finally we find that irradiation doses $\gtrsim 10^{18}$ e$^\text{-}$/cm$^2$ deteriorate the NV$^\text{-}$ decoherence time $T_2$ whereas $T_1$ is unaffected up to the the maximum investigated dose of $5\times 10^{18}$ e$^\text{-}$/cm$^2$.

Decoherence of dipolar spin ensembles in diamond

We present a combined theoretical and experimental study of solid-state spin decoherence in an electronic spin bath, focusing specifically on ensembles of nitrogen vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond and the associated substitutional nitrogen spin bath. We perform measurements of NV spin free induction decay times $T_2^*$ and spin-echo coherence times $T_2$ in 25 diamond samples with nitrogen concentrations [N] ranging from 0.01 to 300\,ppm. We introduce a microscopic model and perform numerical simulations to quantitatively explain the degradation of both $T_2^*$ and $T_2$ over four orders of magnitude in [N]. Our results resolve a long-standing discrepancy observed in NV $T_2$ experiments, enabling us to describe NV ensemble spin coherence decay shapes as emerging consistently from the contribution of many individual NV.
