The Dry Ten Martini Problem for $C^2$ cosine-type quasiperiodic Schr\"odinger operators

This paper solves ``The Dry Ten Martini Problem'' for $C^2$ cosine-type quasiperiodic Schr\"odinger operators with large coupling constants and Diophantine frequencies, a model originally introduced by Sinai in 1987 \cite{sinai}. This shows that the analyticity assumption on the potential is not essential for obtaining a dry Cantor spectrum and can be replaced by a certain geometric condition in the low regularity case. In addition, we prove the homogeneity of the spectrum and the absolute continuity of the integrated density of states (IDS).

Intrinsic Symplectic Structure and Sharp Arithmetic Universality

We show that formal eigenvalue equations of analytic one-frequency Schr\"od-inger operators admit intrinsic analytic $Sp(2k,\C)$ structures, where $k=k(E)$ is the T-acceleration in global theory. For trigonometric potentials those structures govern the center dynamics of partially hyperbolic dual cocycles; for general analytic potentials they persist, without loss of analyticity, as an intrinsic object even when the dual operator has infinite range and no cocycles exist. For $k=1$, we also introduce the concept of projectively real cocycles: complex symplectic systems whose projective action is algebraically conjugate, up to a scalar phase, to that of a real $\SL(2,\R)$ cocycle. This allows us to define a rotation pair and establish a rotation--IDS correspondence in the general analytic setting, where standard dynamical methods fail. Using these tools, we solve two spectral arithmetic conjectures: universality of the sharp arithmetic transition in frequency (AAJ) and of the absolute continuity of the integrated density of states for all frequencies, throughout the class of non-critical Type I operators, an open and conjecturally dense set. We also prove universality of sharp $1/2$-H\"older continuity of the integrated density of states for Type I operators with Diophantine frequencies, establishing part of You's conjecture. These results also provide the first duality-based spectral framework for general analytic potentials, overcoming the symmetry and finite-range restrictions present in previous work.

Sharp Spectral Gaps, Arithmetic Localization, and Reducibility via Resonance Analys

This paper establishes several sharp spectral results for analytic quasiperiodic Schrodinger operators. Key contributions include: (1) exact exponential decay rates for spectral gaps of the almost Mathieu operator, addressing a question raised by Goldstein; (2) sharp arithmetic Anderson localization for a class of quasiperiodic operators on higher-dimensional lattices, which in particular resolves and generalizes Jitomirskaya's phase transition conjecture; and (3) stratified growth patterns for extended eigenfunctions revealing universal partial hierarchical structures for subcritical quasiperiodic Schrodinger operators. The proofs are based on novel frameworks-structured quantitative almost reducibility and sharp quantitative duality-to overcome the longstanding challenge of taming infinitely many rotation-number resonances, which enables us to obtain optimal arithmetic reducibility results for analytic SL(2,R)-cocycles, thereby solving another Jitomirskaya's conjecture. These methods enable a first comprehensive treatment of resonance-driven dynamical asymptotics.

Kotani theory, Puig's argument, and stability of The Ten Martini Problem

We solve the ten martini problem (Cantor spectrum with no condition on irrational frequencies, previously only established for the almost Mathieu) for a large class of one-frequency quasiperiodic operators, including nonperturbative analytic neighborhoods of several popular explicit families. The proof is based on the structural analysis of dual cocycles as introduced in [35]. As a part of the proof, we develop several general ingredients of independent interest: Kotani theory, for a class of finite-range operators over general minimal underlying dynamics, making the first step towards and providing a partial solution of the Kotani-Simon problem, simplicity of point spectrum for the same class, and the all-frequency version of Puig's argument.

On the almost reducibility conjecture

Avila's Almost Reducibility Conjecture (ARC) is a powerful statement linking purely analytic and dynamical properties of analytic one frequency $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ cocycles. It is also a fundamental tool in the study of spectral theory of analytic one-frequency Schr\"odinger operators, with many striking consequencies, allowing to give a detailed characterization of the subcritical region. Here we give a proof, completely different from Avilas, for the important case of Schr\"odinger cocycles and non-exponentially approximated frequencies, allowing, in particular, to obtain all the desired spectral consequences.

Multiplicative Jensen's formula and quantitative global theory of one-frequency Schr\"odinger operators

We introduce the concept of dual Lyapunov exponents, leading to a multiplicative version of the classical Jensen's formula for one-frequency analytic Schr\"odinger cocycles. This formula, in particular, gives a new proof and a quantitative version of the fundamentals of Avila's global theory \cite{avila}, fully explaining the behavior of complexified Lyapunov exponent through the dynamics of the dual cocycle. In particular, concepts of (sub/super) critical regimes and acceleration are all explained (in a quantitative way) through the duality approach. This leads to a number of powerful spectral and physics applications

Hofstadter butterflies and metal/insulator transitions for moir\'e heterostructures

We consider a tight-binding model recently introduced by Timmel and Mele for strained moir\'e heterostructures. We consider two honeycomb lattices to which layer antisymmetric shear strain is applied to periodically modulate the tunneling between the lattices in one distinguished direction. This effectively reduces the model to one spatial dimension and makes it amenable to the theory of matrix-valued quasi-periodic operators. We then study the charge transport and spectral properties of this system, explaining the appearance of a Hofstadter-type butterfly and the occurrence of metal/insulator transitions that have recently been experimentally verified for non-interacting moir\'e systems. For sufficiently incommensurable moir\'e lengths, described by a diophantine condition, as well as strong coupling between the lattices, which can be tuned by applying physical pressure, this leads to the occurrence of localization phenomena.

Arithmetic version of anderson localization for quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators with even cosine type potentials

We propose a new method to prove Anderson localization for quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators and apply it to the quasiperiodic model considered by Sinai and Fröhlich-Spencer-Wittwer. More concretely, we prove Anderson localization for even $C^2$ cosine type quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators with large coupling constants, Diophantine frequencies and Diophantine phases.

Global rigidity for ultra-differentiable quasiperiodic cocycles and its spectral applications

For quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators with one-frequency analytic potentials, from dynamical systems side, it has been proved that the corresponding quasiperiodic Schrödinger cocycle is either rotations reducible or has positive Lyapunov exponent for all irrational frequency and almost every energy. From spectral theory side, the "Schrödinger conjecture" and the "Last's intersection spectrum conjecture" have been verified. The proofs of above results crucially depend on the analyticity of the potentials. People are curious about if the analyticity is essential for those problems, see open problems by Fayad-Krikorian and Jitomirskaya-Mar. In this paper, we prove the above mentioned results for ultra-differentiable potentials.

Hölder regularity of the integrated density of states for quasi-periodic long-range operators on $\ell^2(\Z^d)$

We prove the Hölder continuity of the integrated density of states for a class of quasi-periodic long-range operators on $\ell^2(\Z^d)$ with large trigonometric polynomial potentials and Diophantine frequencies. Moreover, we give the Hölder exponent in terms of the cardinality of the level sets of the potentials, which improves, in the perturbative regime, the result obtained by Goldstein and Schlag \cite{gs2}. Our approach is a combination of Aubry duality, generalized Thouless formula and the regularity of the Lyapunov exponents of analytic quasi-periodic $GL(m,\C)$ cocycles which is proved by quantitative almost reducibility method.

Ballistic transport for one-dimensional quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators

In this paper, we show that one-dimensional discrete multi-frequency quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators with smooth potentials demonstrate ballistic motion on the set of energies on which the corresponding Schrödinger cocycles are smoothly reducible to constant rotations. The proof is performed by establishing a local version of strong ballistic transport on an exhausting sequence of subsets on which reducibility can be achieved by a conjugation uniformly bounded in the $\mathrm{C}^{\ell}$-norm. We also establish global strong ballistic transport under an additional integral condition on the norms of conjugation matrices. The latter condition is quite mild and is satisfied in many known examples.

Reducibility of finitely differentiable quasi-periodic cocycles and its spectral applications

In this paper, we prove the generic version of Cantor spectrum for quasi-periodic Schrödinger operators with finitely smooth and small potentials, and we also show pure point spectrum for a class of multi-frequency $C^k$ long-range operators on $\ell^2(\Z^d)$. These results are based on reducibility properties of finitely differentiable quasi-periodic $SL(2,\R)$ cocycles. More precisely, we prove that if the base frequency is Diophantine, then a $C^k$ $SL(2,\R)$-valued cocycle is reducible if it is close to a constant cocycle, sufficiently smooth and the rotation number of it is Diophantine or rational with respect to the frequency.

The precise regularity of the Lyapunov exponent for $C^2$ Cos-type quasiperiodic Schr\"odinger cocycles with large couplings

In this paper, we study the regularity of the Lyapunov exponent for quasiperiodic Schr\"odinger cocycles with $C^2$ cos-type potentials, large coupling constants, and a fixed Diophantine frequency. We obtain the absolute continuity of the Lyapunov exponent. Moreover, we prove the Lyapunov exponent is $\frac{1}{2}$-H\"older continuous. Furthermore, for any given $r\in (\frac12, 1)$, we can find some energy in the spectrum where the local regularity of the Lyapunov exponent is between $(r-\epsilon)$-H\"older continuity and $(r+\epsilon)$-H\"older continuity.

Arithmetic version of Anderson localization via reducibility

The arithmetic version of Anderson localization (AL), i.e., AL with explicit arithmetic description on both the localization frequency and the localization phase, was first given by Jitomirskaya \cite{J} for the almost Mathieu operators (AMO). Later, the result was generalized by Bourgain and Jitomirskaya \cite{bj02} to a class of {\it one dimensional} quasi-periodic long-range operators. In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on an arithmetic version of Aubry duality and quantitative reducibility. Our method enables us to prove the same result for the class of quasi-periodic long-range operators in {\it all dimensions}, which includes \cite{J, bj02} as special cases.
