Diving into booklet wormholes

ArXiv:2508.17898 proposed the booklet wormhole as the holographic dual of the GHZ state. This paper extends the investigation into this geometry, particularly focusing on the junction conditions for matter fields. We show that the symmetry of the GHZ state requires the bulk to admit special Killing vector fields that standard manifolds cannot realize. Moreover, these bulk symmetries require unprecedented quantum non-local junction conditions at the multi-way interface: Observers entering from different horizons will perceive different states inside the wormhole, where the junction conditions appear as constraints on the observables of different sets of observers. We finally discuss how to render booklet wormholes traversable via boundary deformations. A localized wave packet injected from one page generally evolves into a non-local mixed state on each remaining page, with the information encoded in the entanglement between different pages.

The holographic dual of the GHZ state

Current holographic research mostly focuses on a subset of quantum systems with a classical gravity dual. Although the precise boundary of this subset remains unknown, certain constraints are recognized; for instance, holographic entropies obey inequalities that are violated by general quantum states such as the GHZ states. This paper, however, proposes a gravity dual for the GHZ states -- a non-manifold geometry termed the booklet wormhole. We demonstrate an exact match for all entropy properties with the GHZ state, as well as the identity of the Euclidean partition functions for both systems. The booklet wormhole circumvents the conventional holographic entropy inequalities because different topologies are inevitably included in the gravitational path integral, even in the large-$N$ limit. This provides the first explicit holographic duality with a non-perturbative quantum effect. Remarkably, the construction is simple, and the dual state is maximally entangled, making it ideal for gedanken experiments.

From reasonable postulates to generalised Hamiltonian systems

Hamiltonian mechanics describes the evolution of a system through its Hamiltonian. The Hamiltonian typically also represents the energy observable, a Noether-conserved quantity associated with the time-invariance of the law of evolution. In both quantum and classical mechanics, Hamiltonian mechanics demands a precise relationship between time evolution and observable energy, albeit using slightly different terminology. We distil basic conditions satisfied in both quantum and classical mechanics, including canonical coordinate symmetries and inner product invariance. We express these conditions in the framework of generalised probabilistic theories, which includes generalizing the definition of energy eigenstates in terms of time-invariant properties of the Hamiltonian system. By postulating these conditions to hold, we derive a unified Hamiltonian system model. This unified framework describes quantum and classical mechanics in a consistent language, facilitating their comparison. We moreover discuss alternative theories: an equation of motion given by a mixture of commutation relations, an information-restricted version of quantum theory, and Spekken's toy theory. The findings give a deeper understanding of the Hamiltonian in quantum and classical theories and point to several potential research topics.

Unification of energy concepts in generalised phase space theories

We consider how to describe Hamiltonian mechanics in generalised probabilistic theories with the states represented as quasi-probability distributions. We give general operational definitions of energy-related concepts. We define generalised energy eigenstates as the purest stationary states. Planck's constant plays two different roles in the framework: the phase space volume taken up by a pure state and a dynamical factor. The Hamiltonian is a linear combination of generalised energy eigenstates. This allows for a generalised Liouville time-evolution equation that applies to quantum and classical Hamiltonian mechanics and more. The approach enables a unification of quantum and classical energy concepts and a route to discussing energy in a wider set of theories.

Recent highlights from GENIE v3

The release of GENIE v3.0.0 was a major milestone in the long history of the GENIE project, delivering several alternative comprehensive neutrino interaction models, improved charged-lepton scattering simulations, a range of beyond the Standard Model simulation capabilities, improved experimental interfaces, expanded core framework capabilities, and advanced new frameworks for the global analysis of neutrino scattering data and tuning of neutrino interaction models. Steady progress continued following the release of GENIE v3.0.0. New tools and a large number of new physics models, comprehensive model configurations, and tunes have been made publicly available and planned for release in v3.2.0. This article highlights some of the most recent technical and physics developments in the GENIE v3 series.

Neutrino-Nucleon Cross-Section Model Tuning in GENIE v3

We summarise the results of a study performed within the GENIE global analysis framework, revisiting the GENIE bare-nucleon cross-section tuning and, in particular, the tuning of a) the inclusive cross-section, b) the cross-section of low-multiplicity inelastic channels (single-pion and double-pion production), and c) the relative contributions of resonance and non-resonance processes to these final states. The same analysis was performed with several different comprehensive cross-section model sets available in GENIE Generator v3. In this work we performed a careful investigation of the observed tensions between exclusive and inclusive data, and installed analysis improvements to handle systematics in historic data. All tuned model configurations discussed in this paper are available through public releases of the GENIE Generator. With this paper we aim to support the consumers of these physics tunes by providing comprehensive summaries of our alternate model constructions, of the relevant datasets and their systematics, and of our tuning procedure and results.

Coupled-Channel-Induced $S-D$ mixing of Charmonia and Testing Possible Assignments for $Y(4260)$ and $Y(4360)$

The mass spectrum and the two-body open-charm decays of the $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ charmonium states are studied with the coupled-channel effects taken into account. The coupled-channel-induced mixing effects among the excited vector charmonia are studied. Based on our calculations of the masses and the decay widths, we find that the tension between the observed properties of $Y(4260)/Y(4360)$ and their conventional charmonia interpretations could be softened.

Derivation of the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations at large $N_c$ limit and symmetry preserving truncations

We develop a framework for deriving Dyson-Schwinger Equations (DSEs) and Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE) in QCD at large $N_c$ limit. The starting point is a modified form (with auxiliary fields) of QCD generating functional. This framework provides a natural order-by-order truncation scheme for DSEs and BSE, and the kernels of the equations up to any order are explicitly given. Chiral symmetry (at chiral limit) is preserved in any order truncation, so it exemplifies the symmetry preserving truncation scheme. It provides a method to study DSEs and BSE beyond the Rainbow-Ladder truncation, and is especially useful to study contributions from non-Abelian dynamics (those arise from gluon self-interactions). We also derive the equation for the quark-ghost scattering kernel, and discuss the Slavnov-Taylor identity connecting the quark-gluon vertex, the quark propagator and the quark-ghost scattering kernel.

Strong decays of $D_{3}^{\ast}(2760)$, $D_{s3}^{\ast}(2860)$, $B_{3}^{\ast}$, and $B_{s3}^{\ast}$

In this paper, we study the OZI-allowed two-body strong decays of $3^-$ heavy-light mesons. Experimentally the charmed $D_{3}^{\ast}(2760)$ and the charm-strange $D_{s3}^{\ast}(2860)$ states with these quantum numbers have been discovered. For the bottomed $B(5970)$ state, which was found by the CDF Collaboration recently, its quantum number has not been decided yet and we assume its a $3^-$ meson in this paper. The theoretical prediction for the strong decays of bottom-strange state $B_{s3}^\ast$ is also given. The relativistic wave functions of $3^-$ heavy mesons are constructed and their numerical values are obtained by solving the corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equation with instantaneous approximation. The transition matrix is calculated by using the PCAC and low energy theorem, following which, the decay widths are obtained. For $D_{3}^\ast(2760)$ and $D_{s3}^\ast(2860)$, the total strong decay widths are 72.6 MeV and 47.6 MeV, respectively. For $B_3^\ast$ with $M=5978$ MeV and $B_{s3}^\ast$ with $M=6178$ MeV, their strong decay widths are 22.9 MeV and 40.8 MeV, respectively.

The Strong Decays of X(3940) and X(4160)

The new mesons $X(3940)$ and $X(4160)$ have been found by Belle Collaboration in the processes $e^+e^-\to J/\psi D^{(*)}\bar D^{(*)}$. Considering $X(3940)$ and $X(4160)$ as $\eta_c(3S)$ and $\eta_c(4S)$ states, the two-body open charm OZI-allowed strong decay of $\eta_c(3S)$ and $\eta_c(4S)$ are studied by the improved Bethe-Salpeter method combine with the $^3P_0$ model. The strong decay width of $\eta_c(3S)$ is $\Gamma_{\eta_c(3S)}=(33.5^{+18.4}_{-15.3})$ MeV, which is closed to the result of $X(3940)$, therefore, $\eta_c(3S)$ is a good candidate of $X(3940)$. The strong decay width of $\eta_c(4S)$ is $\Gamma_{\eta_c(4S)}=(69.9^{+22.4}_{-21.1})$ MeV, considering the errors of the results, it's closed to the lower limit of $X(4160)$. But the ratio of the decay width $\frac{\Gamma(D\bar D^*)}{\Gamma (D^*\bar D^*)}$ of $\eta_c(4S)$ is larger than the experimental data of $X(4160)$. According to the above analysis, $\eta_c(4S)$ is not the candidate of $X(4160)$, and more investigations of $X(4160)$ is needed.
