DialogSum: A Real-Life Scenario Dialogue Summarization Dataset

Proposal of large-scale datasets has facilitated research on deep neural models for news summarization. Deep learning can also be potentially useful for spoken dialogue summarization, which can benefit a range of real-life scenarios including customer service management and medication tracking. To this end, we propose DialogSum, a large-scale labeled dialogue summarization dataset. We conduct empirical analysis on DialogSum using state-of-the-art neural summarizers. Experimental results show unique challenges in dialogue summarization, such as spoken terms, special discourse structures, coreferences and ellipsis, pragmatics and social common sense, which require specific representation learning technologies to better deal with.

A High-dimensional Sparse Fourier Transform in the Continuous Setting

In this paper, we theoretically propose a new hashing scheme to establish the sparse Fourier transform in high-dimensional space. The estimation of the algorithm complexity shows that this sparse Fourier transform can overcome the curse of dimensionality. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first polynomial-time algorithm to recover the high-dimensional continuous frequencies.

Nuclear reaction measurements of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets

To get the energy spectrum distribution and cross-sections of emitted light charged particles and explore the nuclear reaction, a experiment of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets has been carried out at Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Science. 30, 60 and 120 degree relative to the incident beam have been detected using three sets of telescope detectors. The results indicate that there is a tendency that heavier targets have larger double differential cross-sections and the emitted fragments are more likely to go forward. Besides, the decrease of cross-sections of fragments producing with the increasing emitted angles may follow some kind of pattern.

DNA-GCN: Graph convolutional networks for predicting DNA-protein binding

Predicting DNA-protein binding is an important and classic problem in bioinformatics. Convolutional neural networks have outperformed conventional methods in modeling the sequence specificity of DNA-protein binding. However, none of the studies has utilized graph convolutional networks for motif inference. In this work, we propose to use graph convolutional networks for motif inference. We build a sequence k-mer graph for the whole dataset based on k-mer co-occurrence and k-mer sequence relationship and then learn DNA Graph Convolutional Network (DNA-GCN) for the whole dataset. Our DNA-GCN is initialized with a one-hot representation for all nodes, and it then jointly learns the embeddings for both k-mers and sequences, as supervised by the known labels of sequences. We evaluate our model on 50 datasets from ENCODE. DNA-GCN shows its competitive performance compared with the baseline model. Besides, we analyze our model and design several different architectures to help fit different datasets.

Signal Acquisition of Luojia-1A Low Earth Orbit Navigation Augmentation System with Software Defined Receiver

Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite navigation signal can be used as an opportunity signal in case of a Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) outage, or as an enhancement means of traditional GNSS positioning algorithms. No matter which service mode is used, signal acquisition is the prerequisite of providing enhanced LEO navigation service. Compared with the medium orbit satellite, the transit time of the LEO satellite is shorter. Thus, it is of great significance to expand the successful acquisition time range of the LEO signal. Previous studies on LEO signal acquisition are based on simulation data. However, signal acquisition research based on real data is very important. In this work, the signal characteristics of LEO satellite: power space density in free space and the Doppler shift of LEO satellite are individually studied. The unified symbol definitions of several integration algorithms based on the parallel search signal acquisition algorithm are given. To verify these algorithms for LEO signal acquisition, a software-defined receiver (SDR) is developed. The performance of those integration algorithms on expanding the successful acquisition time range is verified by the real data collected from the Luojia-1A satellite. The experimental results show that the integration strategy can expand the successful acquisition time range, and it will not expand indefinitely with the integration duration.

Adversarial Attack on Large Scale Graph

Recent studies have shown that graph neural networks (GNNs) are vulnerable against perturbations due to lack of robustness and can therefore be easily fooled. Currently, most works on attacking GNNs are mainly using gradient information to guide the attack and achieve outstanding performance. However, the high complexity of time and space makes them unmanageable for large scale graphs and becomes the major bottleneck that prevents the practical usage. We argue that the main reason is that they have to use the whole graph for attacks, resulting in the increasing time and space complexity as the data scale grows. In this work, we propose an efficient Simplified Gradient-based Attack (SGA) method to bridge this gap. SGA can cause the GNNs to misclassify specific target nodes through a multi-stage attack framework, which needs only a much smaller subgraph. In addition, we present a practical metric named Degree Assortativity Change (DAC) to measure the impacts of adversarial attacks on graph data. We evaluate our attack method on four real-world graph networks by attacking several commonly used GNNs. The experimental results demonstrate that SGA can achieve significant time and memory efficiency improvements while maintaining competitive attack performance compared to state-of-art attack techniques. Secure Deep Graph Generation with Link Differential Privacy

Many data mining and analytical tasks rely on the abstraction of networks (graphs) to summarize relational structures among individuals (nodes). Since relational data are often sensitive, we aim to seek effective approaches to generate utility-preserved yet privacy-protected structured data. In this paper, we leverage the differential privacy (DP) framework to formulate and enforce rigorous privacy constraints on deep graph generation models, with a focus on edge-DP to guarantee individual link privacy. In particular, we enforce edge-DP by injecting proper noise to the gradients of a link reconstruction-based graph generation model, while ensuring data utility by improving structure learning with structure-oriented graph discrimination. Extensive experiments on two real-world network datasets show that our proposed DPGGAN model is able to generate graphs with effectively preserved global structure and rigorously protected individual link privacy.

Analysis of Screening Effects on Terahertz Photoconductive Devices using a Fully-Coupled Multiphysics Approach

The terahertz current generated by a photoconductive device (PCD) saturates as the power of the input optical pump is increased. This behavior is induced by various screening effects that stem from the interactions between electromagnetic (EM) fields and semiconductor carriers. In this work, these screening effects are numerically analyzed for the first time using a fully-coupled multiphysics approach. Unlike the previously developed simulation frameworks, this approach rigorously models the nonlinear coupling between the EM fields and the carriers and therefore is capable of accounting for the screening effects. It is demonstrated that the results obtained using this multiphysics approach and actual experiments are in excellent agreement. The optical- and radiation-field screening effects are identified in the simulation results and the optical-field screening is found to play a more dominant role in the saturation of the PCD output under high optical pump power levels.

Efficient Discontinuous Galerkin Scheme for Analyzing Nanostructured Photoconductive Devices

Incorporation of plasmonic nanostructures in the design of photoconductive devices (PCDs) has significantly improved their optical-to-terahertz conversion efficiency. However, this improvement comes at the cost of increased complexity for the design and simulation of these devices. Indeed, accurate and efficient modeling of multiphysics processes and intricate device geometries of nanostructured PCDs is challenging due to the high computational cost resulting from multiple characteristic scales in time and space. In this work, a discontinuous Galerkin (DG)-based unit-cell scheme for efficient simulation of PCDs with periodic nanostructures is proposed. The scheme considers two physical stages of the device and models them using two coupled systems: a system of Poisson and drift-diffusion equations describing the nonequilibrium steady state, and a system of Maxwell and drift-diffusion equations describing the transient stage. A "potential-drop" boundary condition is enforced on the opposing boundaries of the unit cell to mimic the effect of the bias voltage. Periodic boundary conditions are used for carrier densities and electromagnetic fields. The unit-cell model described by these coupled equations and boundary conditions is discretized using DG methods. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed DG-based unit-cell scheme has the same accuracy in predicting the THz photocurrent as the DG framework that takes into account the whole device, while it significantly reduces the computational cost.

Personalized Bundle Recommendation in Online Games

In business domains, \textit{bundling} is one of the most important marketing strategies to conduct product promotions, which is commonly used in online e-commerce and offline retailers. Existing recommender systems mostly focus on recommending individual items that users may be interested in. In this paper, we target at a practical but less explored recommendation problem named bundle recommendation, which aims to offer a combination of items to users. To tackle this specific recommendation problem in the context of the \emph{virtual mall} in online games, we formalize it as a link prediction problem on a user-item-bundle tripartite graph constructed from the historical interactions, and solve it with a neural network model that can learn directly on the graph-structure data. Extensive experiments on three public datasets and one industrial game dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Further, the bundle recommendation model has been deployed in production for more than one year in a popular online game developed by Netease Games, and the launch of the model yields more than 60\% improvement on conversion rate of bundles, and a relative improvement of more than 15\% on gross merchandise volume (GMV).

Reinforcement Learning with a Disentangled Universal Value Function for Item Recommendation

In recent years, there are great interests as well as challenges in applying reinforcement learning (RL) to recommendation systems (RS). In this paper, we summarize three key practical challenges of large-scale RL-based recommender systems: massive state and action spaces, high-variance environment, and the unspecific reward setting in recommendation. All these problems remain largely unexplored in the existing literature and make the application of RL challenging. We develop a model-based reinforcement learning framework, called GoalRec. Inspired by the ideas of world model (model-based), value function estimation (model-free), and goal-based RL, a novel disentangled universal value function designed for item recommendation is proposed. It can generalize to various goals that the recommender may have, and disentangle the stochastic environmental dynamics and high-variance reward signals accordingly. As a part of the value function, free from the sparse and high-variance reward signals, a high-capacity reward-independent world model is trained to simulate complex environmental dynamics under a certain goal. Based on the predicted environmental dynamics, the disentangled universal value function is related to the user's future trajectory instead of a monolithic state and a scalar reward. We demonstrate the superiority of GoalRec over previous approaches in terms of the above three practical challenges in a series of simulations and a real application.

Hysteresis bifurcation and application to delayed Fitzhugh-Nagumo neural systems

Hysteresis dynamics has been described in a vast number of biological experimental studies. Many such studies are phenomenological and a mathematical appreciation has not attracted enough attention. In the paper, we explore the nature of hysteresis and study it from the dynamical system point of view by using the bifurcation and perturbation theories. We firstly make a classification of hysteresis according to the system behaviours transiting between different types of attractors. Then, we focus on a mathematically amenable situation where hysteretic movements between the equilibrium point and the limit cycle are initiated by a subcritical Hopf bifurcation and a saddle-node bifurcation of limit cycles. We present a analytical framework by using the method of multiple scales to obtain the normal form up to the fifth order. Theoretical results are compared with time domain simulations and numerical continuation, showing good agreement. Although we consider the time-delayed FitzHugh-Nagumo neural system in the paper, the generalization should be clear to other systems or parameters. The general framework we present in the paper can be naturally extended to the notion of bursting activity in neuroscience where hysteresis is a dominant mechanism to generate bursting oscillations.

Robust Kalman filter-based dynamic state estimation of natural gas pipeline networks

To obtain the accurate transient states of the big scale natural gas pipeline networks under the bad data and non-zero mean noises conditions, a robust Kalman filter-based dynamic state estimation method is proposed using the linearized gas pipeline transient flow equations in this paper. Firstly, the dynamic state estimation model is built. Since the gas pipeline transient flow equations are less than the states, the boundary conditions are used as supplementary constraints to predict the transient states. To increase the measurement redundancy, the zero mass flow rate constraints at the sink nodes are taken as virtual measurements. Secondly, to ensure the stability under bad data condition, the robust Kalman filter algorithm is proposed by introducing a time-varying scalar matrix to regulate the measurement error variances correctly according to the innovation vector at every time step. At last, the proposed method is applied to a 30-node gas pipeline networks in several kinds of measurement conditions. The simulation shows that the proposed robust dynamic state estimation can decrease the effects of bad data and achieve better estimating results.

On the origin of GeV spectral break for Fermi blazars: 3C 454.3

The GeV break in spectra of the blazar 3C 454.3 is a special observation feature that has been discovered by the {\it Fermi}-LAT. The origin of the GeV break in the spectra is still under debate. In order to explore the possible source of GeV spectral break in 3C 454.3, a one-zone homogeneous leptonic jet model, as well as the {\it McFit} technique are utilized for fitting the quasi-simultaneous multi-waveband spectral energy distribution (SED) of 3C 454.3. The outside border of the broad-line region (BLR) and inner dust torus are chosen to contribute radiation in the model as external, seed photons to the external-Compton process, considering the observed $γ$-ray radiation. The combination of two components, namely the Compton-scattered BLR and dust torus radiation, assuming a broken power-law distribution of emitted particles, provides a proper fitting to the multi-waveband SED of 3C 454.3 detected 2008 Aug 3 - Sept 2 and explains the GeV spectral break. We propose that the spectral break of 3C 454.3 may originate from an inherent break in the energy distribution of the emitted particles and the Klein-Nishina effect. A comparison is performed between the energy density of the 'external' photon field for the whole BLR $U_{\rm BLR}$ achieved via model fitting and that constrained from the BLR data. The distance from the position of the $γ$-ray radiation area of 3C 454.3 to the central black hole could be constrained at $\sim 0.78$pc ($\sim 4.00 R_{\rm BLR}$, the size of the BLR).

GraphGallery: A Platform for Fast Benchmarking and Easy Development of Graph Neural Networks Based Intelligent Software

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have recently shown to be powerful tools for representing and analyzing graph data. So far GNNs is becoming an increasingly critical role in software engineering including program analysis, type inference, and code representation. In this paper, we introduce GraphGallery, a platform for fast benchmarking and easy development of GNNs based software. GraphGallery is an easy-to-use platform that allows developers to automatically deploy GNNs even with less domain-specific knowledge. It offers a set of implementations of common GNN models based on mainstream deep learning frameworks. In addition, existing GNNs toolboxes such as PyG and DGL can be easily incorporated into the platform. Experiments demonstrate the reliability of implementations and superiority in fast coding. Accessing the data in the failed disk (degraded read) with low latency is crucial for an erasure-coded storage system. In this work, the maximum distance separable (MDS) array code with the property of degraded-read friendly (DRF) is discussed. For the DRF MDS array code with 2 redundant nodes and the sub-packetization level of 2, the lower bound of its access bandwidth is derived.

Deep Reinforcement Learning with Spatio-temporal Traffic Forecasting for Data-Driven Base Station Sleep Control

To meet the ever increasing mobile traffic demand in 5G era, base stations (BSs) have been densely deployed in radio access networks (RANs) to increase the network coverage and capacity. However, as the high density of BSs is designed to accommodate peak traffic, it would consume an unnecessarily large amount of energy if BSs are on during off-peak time. To save the energy consumption of cellular networks, an effective way is to deactivate some idle base stations that do not serve any traffic demand. In this paper, we develop a traffic-aware dynamic BS sleep control framework, named DeepBSC, which presents a novel data-driven learning approach to determine the BS active/sleep modes while meeting lower energy consumption and satisfactory Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Specifically, the traffic demands are predicted by the proposed GS-STN model, which leverages the geographical and semantic spatial-temporal correlations of mobile traffic. With accurate mobile traffic forecasting, the BS sleep control problem is cast as a Markov Decision Process that is solved by Actor-Critic reinforcement learning methods. To reduce the variance of cost estimation in the dynamic environment, we propose a benchmark transformation method that provides robust performance indicator for policy update. To expedite the training process, we adopt a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) approach, together with an explorer network, which can strengthen the exploration further. Extensive experiments with a real-world dataset corroborate that our proposed framework significantly outperforms the existing methods.

Analytical Solution of Magnetically Dominated Astrophysical Jets and Winds: Jet Launching, Acceleration, and Collimation

We present an analytical solution of a highly magnetized jet/wind flow. The left side of the general force-free jet/wind equation (the "pulsar" equation) is separated into a rotating and a nonrotating term. The two equations with either term can be solved analytically, and the two solutions match each other very well. Therefore, we obtain a general approximate solution of a magnetically dominated jet/wind, which covers from the nonrelativistic to relativistic regimes, with the drift velocity well matching the cold plasma velocity. The acceleration of a jet includes three stages. (1) The jet flow is located within the Alfvén critical surface (i.e. the light cylinder), has a nonrelativistic speed, and is dominated by toroidal motion. (2) The jet is beyond the Alfvén critical surface where the flow is dominated by poloidal motion and becomes relativistic. The total velocity in these two stages follows the same law $vΓ=ΩR$. (3) The evolution law is replaced by $vΓ\approx1/\left(θ\sqrt{2-ν}\right)$, where $θ$ is the half-opening angle of the jet and $0\leqν\leq2$ is a free parameter determined by the magnetic field configuration. This is because the earlier efficient acceleration finally breaks the causality connection between different parts in the jet, preventing a global solution. The jet has to carry local charges and currents to support an electromagnetic balance. This approximate solution is consistent with known theoretical results and numerical simulations, and it is more convenient to directly compare with observations. This theory may be used to constrain the spin of black holes in astrophysical jets.
