Hausdorff moment sequences and hypergeometric functions

P\'olya in 1926 showed that the hypergeometric function $F(z)=\null_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ has a totally monotone sequence as its coefficients; that is, $F$ is the generating function of a Hausdorff moment sequence, when $0\le a\le 1$ and $0\le b\le c.$ In this paper, we give a complete characterization of such hypergeometric functions $F$ in terms of complex parameters $a,b,c.$ To this end, we study the class of general properties of generating functions of Hausdorff moment sequences and, in particular, we provide a sufficient condition for the class by making use of a Phragm\`en-Lindel\"of type theorem. As an application, we give also a necessary and sufficient condition for a shifted hypergeometric function to be universally starlike.

Schwarz Lemma and Schwarz-Pick Lemma for solutions of the $\alpha$-harmonic equation

In this paper, the Schwarz type and Schwarz-Pick type inequalities for solutions of $\alpha$-harmonic equation for $\alpha>-1$ are investigated. By making use of the integral of trigonometric functions, we obtain the two types of inequalities in terms of hypergeometric functions which improve the corresponding results due to Khalfallah et al. (Complex Var. Elliptic Equ., 2023) and Li et al. (Bull. Malays. Math. Sci. Soc., 2022).

Universal convexity and range problems of shifted hypergeometric functions

In the present paper, we study the shifted hypergeometric function $f(z)=z\Gauss(a,b;c;z)$ for real parameters with $0<a\le b\le c$ and its variant $g(z)=z\Gauss(a,b;c;z^2).$ Our first purpose is to solve the range problems for $f$ and $g$ posed by Ponnusamy and Vuorinen in their 2001 paper. Ruscheweyh, Salinas and Sugawa developed in their 2009 paper the theory of universal prestarlike functions on the slit domain $\C\setminus[1,+\infty)$ and showed universal starlikeness of $f$ under some assumptions on the parameters. However, there has been no systematic study of universal convexity of the shifted hypergeometric functions except for the case $b=1.$ Our second purpose is to show universal convexity of $f$ under certain conditions on the parameters.

On geometric properties of ratio of two hypergeometric functions

R. K\"ustner proved in his 2002 paper that the function $w_{a,b,c}(z)=$ $F(a+1,b;c;z)/F(a,b;c;z)$ maps the unit disk $|z|<1$ onto a domain convex in the direction of the imaginary axis under some condition on the real parameters $a,b,c.$ Here $F(a,b;c;z)$ stands for the Gaussian hypergeometric function. In this paper, we study the order of convexity of $w_{a,b,c}.$ In particular, we partially solve the problem raised by the afore-mentioned paper by K\"ustner.

Mapping properties of the zero-balanced hypergeometric functions

In the present paper, the order of convexity of z\Gauss(a,b;c;z) is first given under some conditions on the positive real parameters a, b and c. Then we show that the image domains of the unit disc \D under some shifted zero-balanced hypergeometric functions z\Gauss(a,b;a+b;z) are convex and bounded by two horizontal lines which solves the problem raised by Ponnusamy and Vuorinen in \cite{PonVuor:2001

On the order of convexity for the shifted hypergeometric functions

In the present paper, we study the order of convexity of $z\Gauss(a,b;c;z)$ with real parameters $a, b$ and $c$ where $\Gauss(a,b;c;z)$ is the Gaussian hypergeometric function. First we obtain some conditions for $z\Gauss(a,b;c;z)$ with no any finite orders of convexity by considering its asymptotic behavior around $z=1$. Then the order of convexity of $z\Gauss(a,b;c;z)$ is demonstrated for some ranges of real parameters $a,b$ and $c$. In the last section, we give some examples as the applications of the main results.

Geometric properties of the shifted hypergeometric functions

We will provide sufficient conditions for the shifted hypergeometric function $z_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ to be a member of a specific subclass of starlike functions in terms of the complex parameters $a,b$ and $c.$ For example, we study starlikeness of order $\alpha,$ $\lambda$-spirallikeness of order $\alpha$ and strong starlikeness of order $\alpha.$ In particular, those properties lead to univalence of the shifted hypergeometric functions on the unit disk.

Spirallikeness of shifted hypergeometric functions

In the present paper, we study spirallikenss (including starlikeness) of the shifted hypergeometric function $f(z)=z_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ with complex parameters $a,b,c,$ where $_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ stands for the Gaussian hypergeometric function. First, we observe the asymptotic behaviour of $_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ around the point $z=1$ to obtain necessary conditions for $f$ to be $\lambda$-spirallike for a given $\lambda$ with $- \pi/2< \lambda<\pi/2.$ We next give sufficient conditions for $f$ to be $\lambda$-spirallike. As special cases, we obtain sufficient conditions of strong starlikeness and examples of spirallike, but not starlike, shifted hypergeometric functions.

Notes on convex functions of order $\alpha$

Marx and Strohh\"acker showed around in 1933 that $f(z)/z$ is subordinate to $1/(1-z)$ for a normalized convex function $f$ on the unit disk $|z|<1.$ Brickman, Hallenbeck, MacGregor and Wilken proved in 1973 further that $f(z)/z$ is subordinate to $k_\alpha(z)/z$ if $f$ is convex of order $\alpha$ for $1/2\le\alpha<1$ and conjectured that this is true also for $0<\alpha<1/2.$ Here, $k_\alpha$ is the standard extremal function in the class of normalized convex functions of order $\alpha$ and $k_0(z)=z/(1-z).$ We prove the conjecture and study geometric properties of convex functions of order $\alpha.$ In particular, we prove that $(f+g)/2$ is starlike whenever $f$ and $g$ both are convex of order $3/5.$

Quasiconformal extendibility of integral transforms of Noshiro-Warschawski functions

Since the nonlinear integral transforms $J_{\alpha}[f](z) = \int_{0}^{z}(f'(u))^{\alpha} du$ and $I_{\alpha}[f](z) =\int_0^z (f(u)/u)^{\alpha} du$ with a complex number $\alpha$ have been introduced, a great number of studies were dedicated to deriving sufficient conditions for univalence on the unit disk. On the other hand, little is known about the conditions that $J_{\alpha}[f]$ or $I_{\alpha}[f]$ produces a holomorphic univalent function in the unit disk which extends to a quasiconformal map on the complex plane. In this paper we discuss quasiconformal extendibility of the integral transforms $J_{\alpha}[f]$ and $I_{\alpha}[f]$ for holomorphic functions which satisfy the Noshiro-Warschawski criterion. Various approaches using pre-Schwarzian derivatives, differential subordinations and Loewner theory are taken to this problem.

Variability regions of close-to-convex functions

M. Biernacki gave concrete forms of the variability regions of $z/f(z)$ and $zf'(z)/f(z)$ of close-to-convex functions $f$ for a fixed $z$ with $|z|<1$ in 1936. The forms are, however, not necessarily convenient to determine the shape of the full variability region of $zf'(z)/f(z)$ over all close-to-convex functions $f$ and all points $z$ with $|z|<1.$ We will propose a couple of other forms of the variability regions and see that the full variability region of $zf'(z)/f(z)$ is indeed the complex plane minus the origin. We also apply them to study the variability regions of $\log[z/f(z)]$ and $\log[zf'(z)/f(z)].$

Coefficient estimates for close-to-convex functions with argument $\beta$

This paper deals with coefficient estimates for close-to-convex functions with argument $\beta$ ($-\pi/2<\beta<\pi/2$). By using Herglotz representation formula, sharp bounds of coefficients are obtained. In particluar, we solve the problem posed by A. W. Goodman and E. B. Saff in $\cite{GS}$. Finally some complicted computations yield the explicit estimate of the third coefficient.

The titled Carathodory class and its applications

This survey mainly deals with the tilted Carath{é}odory class by angle $λ$ (denoted by $\mathcal{P}_λ$) an element of which maps the unit disc into the tilted right half-plane $\{w: \Re e^{iλ} w>0\}$. Firstly we will characterize $\mathcal{P}_λ$ from different aspects. In section 3, various estimates of functionals over $\mathcal{P}_λ$ are deduced from the known corresponding estimates of $\mathcal{P}_{0}$ or elementary functional analysis. Finally some subsets of analytic functions related to $\mathcal{P}_λ$ including close-to-convex functions with argument $λ$, $λ$-spirallike functions, $λ$-Robertson functions and analytic functions whose derivative is in $\mathcal{P}_λ$ are also considered as applications

Boundedness, univalence and quasiconformal extension of Robertson functions

This article contains several results for λ-Robertson functions, i.e., analytic functions $f$ defined on the unit disk $D$ satisfying $f(0) = f'(0)-1=0$ and $Re e^{-iλ} {1+zf"(z)/f'(z)} > 0$ in $D$, where $λε(-π/2,π/2)$. We will discuss about conditions for boundedness and quasiconformal extension of Robertson functions. In the last section we provide another proof of univalence for Robertson functions by using the theory of Löwner chains.
