On the Convergence of a Noisy Gradient Method for Non-convex Distributed Resource Allocation: Saddle Point Escape

This paper considers a class of distributed resource allocation problems where each agent privately holds a smooth, potentially non-convex local objective, subject to a globally coupled equality constraint. Built upon the existing method, Laplacian-weighted Gradient Descent, we propose to add random perturbations to the gradient iteration to enable efficient escape from saddle points and achieve second-order convergence guarantees. We show that, with a sufficiently small fixed step size, the iterates of all agents reach an approximate second-order stationary point with high probability. Numerical experiments confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach, demonstrating improved performance over standard weighted gradient descent in non-convex scenarios.

Emergent Vibronic Spectral Hierarchy in a Kagome Flat-Band Insulator

Electron-phonon coupling is usually understood in terms of electronic quasiparticles interacting with dispersive lattice vibrations. Much less is known about the complementary limit in which the relevant phonon mode is itself localized or weakly dispersive. Here we investigate this regime in the kagome compound Rb$_{2}$Ni$_{3}$S$_{4}$, which undergoes an unconventional insulating transition near $T^{*} \approx$ 260-280~K. Combining polarization-resolved Raman spectroscopy with temperature-dependent x-ray diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy, and electrical, thermal, and magnetic measurements, we show that the transition involves electronic localization without a conventional structural or magnetic order parameter. Raman spectra reveal a giant Franck-Condon progression associated with a nearly dispersionless 333.7~cm$^{-1}$ phonon, decorated by an equally spaced comb-like fine structure with a characteristic spacing of 40.6~cm$^{-1}$. The comb spacing is insensitive to magnetic field, whereas its spectral weight is strongly field tunable. Rather than treating either hierarchy alone as pure phonon effect, we interpret their nested coexistence as evidence for a strongly coupled electron-vibrational manifold involving a localized lattice coordinate. These results identify dispersionless phonons as an active route to vibronic correlations in solids and suggest that such electron-vibrational self-trapping is closely associated with the insulating phase of Rb$_{2}$Ni$_{3}$S$_{4}$.

Anisotropic Electronic Correlations in the Spin Density Wave State of La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_7$

The bilayer nickelate superconductor La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_7$ undergoes a density wave transition near 150 K that has attracted intensive scrutiny, yet its microscopic origin remains elusive. Here we report polarization-resolved electronic Raman scattering measurements on high-quality single crystals of La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_7$. Below 150\,K, we observe a pronounced, symmetry-dependent redistribution of spectral weight in B$_{1g}$ and B$_{2g}$ channels, consistent with the formation of spin-density-wave (SDW) gaps. Quantitative analysis reveals momentum-selective SDW gap amplitudes, with intermediate-to-strong coupling near X/Y points of the Brillouin zone and weaker coupling along the diagonal direction, indicating an unconventional SDW driven by anisotropic electronic correlations. Our results establish the electronic character of the SDW in La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_7$, and provide a microscopic foundation for understanding the emergence of high-temperature superconductivity under pressure in nickelates.

On The Minkowski Problem With Respect To A Mixed Euclidean-Gaussian Density

In this paper, we pose a new class of Minkowski problems corresponding to the mixed Euclidean-Gaussian volume. Using the flow method, we prove the existence of smooth normalized solutions for the corresponding Monge-Ampère-type equation in the symmetric case. Then, by approximation, we obtain the existence of origin-symmetric solutions to the mixed Euclidean-Gaussian Minkowski problem.

Scaling up fine-grained intracranial vessel annotations in computed tomography angiography

In this work, we present SemanticVessel, a dataset for fine-grained brain vessel segmentation in computed tomography angiography scans. Based on the detailed contrast provided by dynamic 4D-CTA scans, we generate segmentation traces for arteries and veins. We then use intensity-guided region growing to obtain segmentations of the majority of vascular territories in the human brain, which are refined and annotated with 20 unique arterial classes by an expert radiologist. Unlike existing datasets, where minor arteries are discarded as background content, we merge these minor arteries into a generic arterial class. Due to the multiple-phase acquisition of dynamic 4D-CTA, labels for a single phase can be re-used for other phases in the same series, greatly increasing the size of our dataset with no additional annotation cost. The results show that models trained with the additional generic artery class produce better fine-grained segmentations across the board. We will make our code, annotation GUI, and model weights available to the scientific community. Code, weights, and data will be made available on https://github.com/alceballosa/robust-vessel-segmentation

To $1/2$-logconcavity and beyond: Geometric properties of Dirichlet eigenfunctions

We prove that, on a bounded open convex domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$, the first Dirichlet eigenfunction of the Laplacian or the Ornstein--Uhlenbeck operator is $α$-logconcave for every $α\in(0,1/2]$. This extends the recent $1/2$-logconcavity theorem of Crasta--Fragalà for the Laplacian to the weighted Gaussian setting and, simultaneously, to a broader range of exponents. More precisely, if $u$ denotes the first eigenfunction normalized by $\|u\|_\infty=1$, then for every $α\in(0,1/2]$, the function $-\bigl(-\log(κu(x))\bigr)^α$ is concave in $Ω$ provided the scaling parameter $κ$ lies below an explicit threshold $κ_α(Ω)\in(0,1)$, which depends on the first Dirichlet eigenvalue and on the diameter of~$Ω$. For the Ornstein--Uhlenbeck operator, $κ_α(Ω)$ also depends on the distance between $Ω$ and the origin. Moreover, we establish a local counterpart: for every $κ\in(0,1)$, the function $\bigl(-\log(κu)\bigr)^α$ is convex on a convex neighborhood $Ω_κ$ of the unique maximum point of~$u$. We also provide counterexamples showing that unscaled $1/2$-logconcavity may fail for the first Dirichlet eigenfunction of a Schrödinger operator with a smooth convex potential, and for the first Dirichlet eigenfunction of a weighted Laplacian associated with an affine log-concave weight.

Convergence Analysis of Noisy Distributed Gradient Descent for Non-convex Optimization -- Saddle Point Escape

A variant of consensus based distributed gradient descent (\textbf{DGD}) is studied for finite sums of smooth but possibly non-convex functions. In particular, the local gradient term in the fixed step-size iteration of each agent is randomly perturbed to evade saddle points. Under regularity conditions, it is established that for sufficiently small step size and noise variance, each agent converges with high probability to a specified radius neighborhood of a common second-order stationary point, i.e., local minimizer. The rate of convergence is shown to be comparable to centralized first-order algorithms. Numerical experiments are presented to validate the efficacy of the proposed approach over standard \textbf{DGD} in a non-convex setting.

AI-Driven SERS for Non-invasive and Label-Free Extracellular Vesicle Detection Across Cellular Origins in Tears and Sweat

Wearable sensing technology capable of point-of-care, continuous and non-invasive analysis of exosomes in biofluid such as tears and sweat is an essential part for future personalized medicine. Major detection and identification methods of cell secreted Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) often require labeling and are time-consuming, resulting in low efficiency in EV mechanism research and disease diagnosis. While the label-free Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been combined with deep learning model for EV identification in blood, their application to non-invasive detection of EVs in tears and sweat are missing. Here, we filled this gap by developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method based on salt-induced nanoparticle aggregation for fast EV identification in tears and sweat with high accuracy. Significantly, our label-free detection and AI differentiation of EVs from 6 cell lines (HepG2, Hela, 143B, LO-2, BMSC, H8) achieved the identification of EVs in tear fluids from 7 different disease sources with accuracies >92%. Our results showed that this platform can not only distinguish EVs from multiple cell sources but also generate highly reproducible and selective EV signals in tear fluids without a need for chemical labeling or separation steps. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that silver atoms (Ag) form electrostatic interactions with oxygen atoms of multiple amino acid residues in proteins, suggesting a high affinity. This strategy realizes ultra-sensitive and anti-interference detection of EVs, providing a new idea for the rapid diagnosis of clinical diseases.

Hunyuan3D 2.0: Scaling Diffusion Models for High Resolution Textured 3D Assets Generation

We present Hunyuan3D 2.0, an advanced large-scale 3D synthesis system for generating high-resolution textured 3D assets. This system includes two foundation components: a large-scale shape generation model -- Hunyuan3D-DiT, and a large-scale texture synthesis model -- Hunyuan3D-Paint. The shape generative model, built on a scalable flow-based diffusion transformer, aims to create geometry that properly aligns with a given condition image, laying a solid foundation for downstream applications. The texture synthesis model, benefiting from strong geometric and diffusion priors, produces high-resolution and vibrant texture maps for either generated or hand-crafted meshes. Furthermore, we build Hunyuan3D-Studio -- a versatile, user-friendly production platform that simplifies the re-creation process of 3D assets. It allows both professional and amateur users to manipulate or even animate their meshes efficiently. We systematically evaluate our models, showing that Hunyuan3D 2.0 outperforms previous state-of-the-art models, including the open-source models and closed-source models in geometry details, condition alignment, texture quality, and etc. Hunyuan3D 2.0 is publicly released in order to fill the gaps in the open-source 3D community for large-scale foundation generative models. The code and pre-trained weights of our models are available at: https://github.com/Tencent/Hunyuan3D-2

In-orbit Test of the Weak Equivalence Principle with Atom Interferometry

The Weak Equivalence Principle (WEP) is a central pillar of general relativity. Its precise test with quantum systems in space offers a unique window onto new physics. Here we report the first in-orbit quantum test of the WEP. A dual-species (85Rb/87Rb) atom interferometer is realized aboard the China Space Station. Methods of platform motion suppression, fluorescence detection switching, and two-photon detuning switching are developed to eliminate phase noise and improve measurement accuracy. A test uncertainty of 2.8*10-8 is obtained from 280 days of WEP test data, and a test result of (-3.1+/-4.6)*10-7 is achieved after error estimation. This improves prior atom-interferometric WEP tests in microgravity by three orders of magnitude. This work paves the way for space-borne quantum inertial sensors and their application to future fundamental physics in space.

Log-concavity of solutions of parabolic equations related to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator and applications

In this paper, we investigate the log-concavity of the kernel for the parabolic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in a bounded, convex domain. Consequently, we get the preservation of the log-concavity of the initial datum by the related flow. As an application, we give another proof of a Brunn-Minkowski type inequality for the first eigenvalue of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator and of the log-concavity of the related first eigenfunction (both results have been proved in [9], by different methods).

Geometric properties of solutions to elliptic PDE's in Gauss space and related Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities

We prove a Brunn-Minkowski type inequality for the first (nontrivial) Dirichlet eigenvalue of the weighted $p$-operator \[ -Δ_{p,γ}u=-\text{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2} \nabla u)+(x,\nabla u)|\nabla u|^{p-2}, \] where $p>1$, in the class of bounded Lipschitz domains in $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also prove that any corresponding positive eigenfunction is log-concave if the domain is convex.

Robust automatic brain vessel segmentation in 3D CTA scans using dynamic 4D-CTA data

In this study, we develop a novel methodology for annotating the brain vasculature using dynamic 4D-CTA head scans. By using multiple time points from dynamic CTA acquisitions, we subtract bone and soft tissue to enhance the visualization of arteries and veins, reducing the effort required to obtain manual annotations of brain vessels. We then train deep learning models on our ground truth annotations by using the same segmentation for multiple phases from the dynamic 4D-CTA collection, effectively enlarging our dataset by 4 to 5 times and inducing robustness to contrast phases. In total, our dataset comprises 110 training images from 25 patients and 165 test images from 14 patients. In comparison with two similarly-sized datasets for CTA-based brain vessel segmentation, a nnUNet model trained on our dataset can achieve significantly better segmentations across all vascular regions, with an average mDC of 0.846 for arteries and 0.957 for veins in the TopBrain dataset. Furthermore, metrics such as average directed Hausdorff distance (adHD) and topology sensitivity (tSens) reflected similar trends: using our dataset resulted in low error margins (adHD of 0.304 mm for arteries and 0.078 for veins) and high sensitivity (tSens of 0.877 for arteries and 0.974 for veins), indicating excellent accuracy in capturing vessel morphology. Density Prediction of Income Distribution Based on Mixed Frequency Data

Modeling large dependent datasets in modern time series analysis is a crucial research area. One effective approach to handle such datasets is to transform the observations into density functions and apply statistical methods for further analysis. Income distribution forecasting, a common application scenario, benefits from predicting density functions as it accounts for uncertainty around point estimates, leading to more informed policy formulation. However, predictive modeling becomes challenging when dealing with mixed-frequency data. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a mixed data sampling regression model for probability density functions (PDF-MIDAS). To mitigate variance inflation caused by high-frequency prediction variables, we utilize exponential Almon polynomials with fewer parameters to regularize the coefficient structure. Additionally, we propose an iterative estimation method based on quadratic programming and the BFGS algorithm. Simulation analyses demonstrate that as the sample size for estimating density functions and observation length increase, the estimator approaches the true value. Real data analysis reveals that compared to single-sequence prediction models, PDF-MIDAS incorporating high-frequency exogenous variables offers a wider range of application scenarios with superior fitting and prediction performance.

Doubly Robust Uniform Confidence Bands for Group-Time Conditional Average Treatment Effects in Difference-in-Differences

We consider a panel data analysis to examine the heterogeneity in treatment effects with respect to groups, periods, and a pre-treatment covariate of interest in the staggered difference-in-differences setting of Callaway and Sant'Anna (2021). Under standard identification conditions, a doubly robust estimand conditional on the covariate identifies the group-time conditional average treatment effect given the covariate. Focusing on the case of a continuous covariate, we propose a three-step estimation procedure based on nonparametric local polynomial regressions and parametric estimation methods. Using uniformly valid distributional approximation results for empirical processes and weighted/multiplier bootstrapping, we develop doubly robust inference methods to construct uniform confidence bands for the group-time conditional average treatment effect function and a variety of useful summary parameters. The accompanying R package didhetero allows for easy implementation of our methods.

Convergence Analysis of EXTRA in Non-convex Distributed Optimization

Optimization problems involving the minimization of a finite sum of smooth, possibly non-convex functions arise in numerous applications. To achieve a consensus solution over a network, distributed optimization algorithms, such as \textbf{EXTRA} (decentralized exact first-order algorithm), have been proposed to address these challenges. In this paper, we analyze the convergence properties of \textbf{EXTRA} in the context of smooth, non-convex optimization. By interpreting its updates as a nonlinear dynamical system, we show novel insights into its convergence properties. Specifically, i) \textbf{EXTRA} converges to a consensual first-order stationary point of the global objective with a sublinear rate; and ii) \textbf{EXTRA} avoids convergence to consensual strict saddle points, offering second-order guarantees that ensure robustness. These findings provide a deeper understanding of \textbf{EXTRA} in a non-convex context.

The strong log-concavity for first eigenfunction of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in the class of convex bodies

In this paper, we prove that the first (positive) Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator \[ L(u)=Δu-(\nabla u,x), \] is strongly log-concave if the domain is bounded and convex, which improves the conclusion in [6]. We also provide a characterization of the equality case of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the principal frequency of $L(u)$ in the class of convex bodies.
