Qualitative and Generalized Differentiation Properties of Optimal Value Functions with Applications to Duality

This paper investigates general and generalized differentiation properties of the optimal value function associated with perturbed optimization problems. Fundamental results on nearly convex sets and functions in infinite-dimensional spaces are then established. We proceed by analyzing general properties of the optimal value function, including its domain, epigraph, strict epigraph, near convexity, semicontinuity, and Lipschitz-type continuity in both convex and nonconvex settings. Subsequently, we derive calculus rules and representation formulas for the $\epsilon$-subdifferentials of the optimal value function and its Fenchel conjugate. We then develop a duality framework for constrained optimization problems with set-valued constraints using the Fenchel conjugate for set-valued mappings. This approach provides new perspectives on duality in generalized settings.

Pulsar Timing at the Deep Space Network

The 70-m DSN's Deep Space Station antenna 14 (DSS-14) at Goldstone has recently been outfitted with instrumentation to enable pulsar searching and timing operation. Systems capable of similar operations are undergoing installation at DSS-63, and are planned for DSS-43. The Goldstone system is the first of these to become operational, with a 640 MHz bandwidth stretching from 1325-1965 MHz. Initial results from the pulsar timing pipeline show short-term residuals of < 100 ns for pulsar B1937+21. Commissioning obsefvations at DSS-14 to obtain a baseline set of TOA measurements on several millisecond pulsars are currently underway.

In-medium nucleon-nucleon cross-sections with non-spherical Pauli blocking

We present a formalism to solve the Bethe-Goldstone scattering equation without the use of partial wave expansion which is alternative to the one we developed in a previous work. The present approach is more suitable for the calculation of in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections, which are the focal point of this paper. The impact of removing the spherical approximation on the angle and energy dependence of, particularly, in-medium proton-proton and proton-neutron differential cross sections is discussed along with its potential implication.

Solution of the Bethe-Goldstone Equation without Partial Wave Decomposition

We present a method for solving the nucleon-nucleon scattering equation without the use of a partial wave expansion of the scattering amplitude. After verifying the accuracy of the numerical solutions, we proceed to apply the method to the in-medium scattering equation (the Bethe-Goldstone equation) in three dimensions. A focal point is a study of Pauli blocking effects calculated in the (angle-dependent) three-dimensional formalism as compared to the usual spherical approximation. We discuss our results and their implications.

The impact of charge symmetry and charge independence breaking on the properties of neutrons and protons in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter

We investigate the effects of charge independence and charge symmetry breaking in neutron-rich matter. We consider neutron and proton properties in isospin-asymmetric matter at normal densities as well as the high-density neutron matter equation of state and the bulk properties of neutron stars. We find charge symmetry and charge independence breaking effects to be very small.
