On certain arithmetic functions involving exponential divisors

The integer $d$ is called an exponential divisor of $n=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{a_i}>1$ if $d=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{c_i}$, where $c_i \mid a_i$ for every $1\le i \le r$. The integers $n=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{a_i}, m=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{b_i}>1$ having the same prime factors are called exponentially coprime if $(a_i,b_i)=1$ for every $1\le i\le r$. In the paper we investigate asymptotic properties of certain arithmetic functions involving exponential divisors and exponentially coprime integers.

Regular integers modulo n

Let $n=p_1^{ν_1}... p_r^{ν_r} >1$ be an integer. An integer $a$ is called regular (mod $n$) if there is an integer $x$ such that $a^2x\equiv a$ (mod $n$). Let $\varrho(n)$ denote the number of regular integers $a$ (mod $n$) such that $1\le a\le n$. Here $\varrho(n)=(ϕ(p_1^{ν_1})+1)... (ϕ(p_r^{ν_r})+1)$, where $ϕ(n)$ is the Euler function. In this paper we first summarize some basic properties of regular integers (mod $n$). Then in order to compare the rates of growth of the functions $\varrho(n)$ and $ϕ(n)$ we investigate the average orders and the extremal orders of the functions $\varrho(n)/ϕ(n)$, $ϕ(n)/\varrho(n)$ and $1/\varrho(n)$.

Extremal orders of compositions of certain arithmetical functions

We study the exact extremal orders of compositions $f(g(n))$ of certain arithmetical functions, including the functions $σ(n)$, $ϕ(n)$, $σ^*(n)$ and $ϕ^*(n)$, representing the sum of divisors of $n$, Euler's function and their unitary analogues, respectively. Our results complete, generalize and refine known results.

An order result for the exponential divisor function

The integer $d=\prod_{i=1}^s p_i^{b_i}$ is called an exponential divisor of $n=\prod_{i=1}^s p_i^{a_i}>1$ if $b_i \mid a_i$ for every $i\in \{1,2,...,s\}$. Let $τ^{(e)}(n)$ denote the number of exponential divisors of $n$, where $τ^{(e)}(1)=1$ by convention. The aim of the present paper is to establish an asymptotic formula with remainder term for the $r$-th power of the function $τ^{(e)}$, where $r\ge 1$ is an integer. This improves an earlier result of {\sc M. V. Subbarao} [5].

On a class of arithmetic convolutions involving arbitrary sets of integers

Let $d,n$ be positive integers and $S$ be an arbitrary set of positive integers. We say that $d$ is an $S$-divisor of $n$ if $d|n$ and gcd $(d,n/d)\in S$. Consider the $S$-convolution of arithmetical functions given by (1.1), where the sum is extended over the $S$-divisors of $n$. We determine the sets $S$ such that the $S$-convolution is associative and preserves the multiplicativity of functions, respectively, and discuss other basic properties of it. We give asymptotic formulae with error terms for the functions $σ_S(n)$ and $τ_S(n)$, representing the sum and the number of $S$-divisors of $n$, respectively, for an arbitrary $S$. We improve the remainder terms of these formulae and find the maximal orders of $σ_S(n)$ and $τ_S(n)$ assuming additional properties of $S$. These results generalize, unify and sharpen previous ones. We also pose some problems concerning these topics.

On the asymptotic densities of certain subsets of $\bf N^k$

We determine the asymptotic density $δ_k$ of the set of ordered $k$-tuples $(n_1,...,n_k)\in \N^k, k\ge 2$, such that there exists no prime power $p^a$, $a\ge 1$, appearing in the canonical factorization of each $n_i$, $1\le i\le k$, and deduce asymptotic formulae with error terms regarding this problem and analogous ones. We give numerical approximations of the constants $δ_k$ and improve the error term of formula (1.2) due to {\sc E. Cohen}. We point out that our treatment, based on certain inversion functions, is applicable also in case $k=1$ in order to establish asymptotic formulae with error terms regarding the densities of subsets of $\N$ with additional multiplicative properties. These generalize an often cited result of {\sc G. J. Rieger}.

Remarks on generalized Ramanujan sums and even functions

We prove a simple formula for the main value of $r$-even functions and give applications of it. Considering the generalized Ramanujan sums $c_A(n,r)$ involving regular systems $A$ of divisors we show that it is not possible to develop a Fourier theory with respect to $c_A(n,r)$, like in the the usual case of classical Ramanujan sums $c(n,r)$.

The maximal order of a class of multiplicative arithmetical functions

We prove simple theorems concerning the maximal order of a large class of multiplicative functions. As an application, we determine the maximal orders of certain functions of the type $σ_A(n)= \sum_{d\in A(n)} d$, where A(n) is a subset of the set of all positive divisors of $n$, including the divisor-sum function $σ(n)$ and its unitary and exponential analogues. We also give the minimal order of a new class of Euler-type functions, including the Euler-function $ϕ(n)$ and its unitary analogue.

On exponentially coprime integers

The integers $n=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{a_i}$ and $m=\prod_{i=1}^r p_i^{b_i}$ having the same prime factors are called exponentially coprime if $(a_i,b_i)=1$ for every $1\le i\le r$. We estimate the number of pairs of exponentially coprime integers $n,m\le x$ having the prime factors $p_1,...,p_r$ and show that the asymptotic density of pairs of exponentially coprime integers having $r$ fixed prime divisors is $(ζ(2))^{-r}$.
