The uniform asymptotics for real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification II: lower bounds and asymptotics

This is the second of two papers on the uniform asymptotics for real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification. Using the modified tropical correspondence theorem established in the first paper of this series, we introduce a combinatorial invariant that serves as a lower bound for real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification. We derive a uniform lower bound for the large-degree and large-genus logarithmic asymptotics of these combinatorial invariants. This uniform lower bound yields the following results: (1) We establish a uniform lower bound for the large-degree and large-genus logarithmic asymptotics of real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification and their complex analogues. In particular, we provide a partial answer to an open question proposed by Dubrovin, Yang and Zagier on the uniform bound for simple Hurwitz numbers. (2) We prove logarithmic equivalence between real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification and their complex analogues as the degree tends to infinity and only simple branch points are added. (3) As the genus tends to infinity and only simple branch points are added, we show that the logarithms of real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification and their complex analogues are of the same order.

On a new region for the Lane-Emden conjecture in higher dimensions

We study the Lane-Emden conjecture, which asserts the non-existence of non-trivial, non-negative solutions to the Lane-Emden system \[ -\Delta u = v^p, \quad -\Delta v = u^q, \quad x \in \mathbb{R}^n\] in the subcritical regime. By employing an Obata-type integral inequality, Picone's identity, and exploiting the scaling invariance of the system, we prove that the conjecture holds for any dimension $n \geq 5$ and exponents satisfying $p\geq 1,q\geq 1$, and \[ \frac{1}{p+1} + \frac{1}{q+1} \geq 1 - \frac{2}{n} + \frac{4}{n^2}. \]

Symmetry and classification of positive solutions of some weighted elliptic equations

We study the weighted elliptic equation \begin{equation} -div(|x|^{-2a}\nabla u)=|x|^{-bp}|u|^{p-2}u~~~\mbox{in}~\mathbb{R}^N ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(0.1)\end{equation} with $N\geq 2$, which arises from the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Under the assumptions of finite energy and $a_1+a_2=N-2$, for nonnegative solutions we prove the equivalence between equation (0.1) with $a=a_1$ and equation (0.1) with $a=a_2$. Without finite energy assumptions, for $2\leq p<2^*$ we give the optimal parameter range in which nonnegative solutions of (0.1) in $\mathbf{L}^\infty_{Loc}(\mathbb{R}^N)$ must be radially symmetric, and give a complete classification for these solutions in this range.

Multi-color Wavefront Sensor using Talbot effect for High-order Harmonic Generation

We present a novel method for multi-color wavefront measurement of high-order harmonic generation beams using the Talbot effect, validated both theoretically and experimentally for the first time. Each harmonic maintains a unique wavefront and produces an independent set of self-images along the optical axis.We achieved the wavefronts reconstruction of three harmonics in a single measurement scan, expanding the spectrally-resolved capability of the conventional Talbot effect wavefront sensor. This breakthrough introduces a novel tool for studying the multi-color wavefront in high-order harmonic generation, unlocking the potential to investigate spatiotemporal ultrafast nonlinear dynamics in attosecond pulse formation on a shot-by-shot basis.

The uniform asymptotics for real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification I: the tropical correspondence

This is the first of two papers on the uniform asymptotics for real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification. Real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification count the number of real ramified coverings of the complex projective line $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$ by real Riemann surfaces of genus $g$, where the ramification profiles over $0$ and $\infty$ are $\lambda$ and $\mu$ respectively, and the ramification profiles over the remaining real branch points consist of either $(3,1,\ldots,1)$ or $(2,1,\ldots,1)$. We apply a modified version of the tropical computation framework developed by Markwig and Rau for real Hurwitz numbers (Math. Z. 281 (2015), no. 1-2, 501-522) to compute the real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification. The new ingredient in our computation is the application of real simple resolution, a technique that enables us to resolve a triple branch point into a pair of simple branch points. Using real simple resolution, we establish a correspondence between real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification and weighted counts of tropical covers. This modified tropical correspondence simplifies the asymptotic analysis of real double Hurwitz numbers with triple ramification.

On the Lane-Emden conjecture

We consider the Lane-Emden conjecture which states that there is no non-trivial non-negative solution for the Lane-Emden system whenever the pair of exponents is subcritical. By Sobolev embeddings on $S^{N-1}$ and scale invariance of the solutions, we show this conjecture holds in a new region. Our methods can also be used to prove the Lane-Emden conjecture in space dimension $N\leq 4$, that is to give a different proof of the main result of Souplet in Adv. Math. 2009.

Unipolar Resistance Switching in Amorphous High-k dielectrics Based on Correlated Barrier Hopping Theory

We have proposed a kind of nonvolatile resistive switching memory based on amorphous LaLuO3, which has already been established as a promising candidate of high-k gate dielectric employed in transistors. Well-developed unipolar switching behaviors in amorphous LaLuO3 make it suited for not only logic but memory applications using the conventional semiconductor or the emerging nano/CMOS architectures. The conduction transition between high- and low- resistance states is attributed to the change in the separation between oxygen vacancy sites in the light of the correlated barrier hopping theory. The mean migration distances of vacancies responsible for the resistive switching are demonstrated in nanoscale, which could account for the ultrafast programming speed of 6 ns. The origin of the distributions in switching parameters in oxides can be well understood according to the switching principle. Furthermore, an approach has also been developed to make the operation voltages predictable for the practical applications of resistive memories.
