PT$^3$: Prototype-Guided Self-Supervised Pretraining for Generalizable mmWave Human Point Cloud Representation

Multi-source millimeter-wave (mmWave) observations offer an opportunity to learn human representations reusable across sensing tasks. However, sparse detections and multipath effects make these observations unstable, challenging existing point cloud pretraining methods. We propose PT$^3$, a prototype-guided self-supervised pretraining framework for mmWave human point clouds. PT$^3$ represents local states in spatial regions as sparse compositions of shared prototypes and learns their temporal evolution through autoregressive prediction. Observation consistency further stabilizes representations under radar perturbations. After pretraining on unlabeled sequences from multiple sources, the same frozen encoder supports action classification, dense point generation, joint pose estimation, and future motion prediction on datasets not used for pretraining. Across these tasks, PT$^3$ outperforms the compared pretraining baselines and achieves competitive or superior performance to task-specific models.

ProtoEEG: Structured Prototype Alignment for EEG Visual Decoding

EEG visual decoding remains difficult because scalp recordings are noisy, spatially coarse, and variable across trials and subjects. Most systems align each trial with a dense image embedding, although that embedding mixes semantic content with instance-specific texture, pose, and background. This target can demand details absent from EEG and provides no explicit account of the visual factors supporting a prediction. We propose \textbf{ProtoEEG}, a prototype-mediated framework that reformulates EEG--image alignment as soft composition over a shared learnable visual codebook. A trainable EEG encoder and a frozen visual teacher produce assignment distributions over the same $K=64$ prototypes. Their weighted reconstructions form a structured representation for retrieval and image generation. Prototype contrast supplies the main cross-modal training signal, distribution alignment coordinates codebook use across modalities, an instance anchor preserves fine-grained discrimination, and diversity regularization prevents redundant prototypes. The shared assignment profile also makes the learned bottleneck directly testable through prototype retention, random selection, and identity shuffling. Across five seeds, ProtoEEG reaches 64.0\% Top-1 and 91.5\% Top-5 on THINGS-EEG2 200-way retrieval. After retraining on EEG-ImageNet, it obtains 44.8\% Top-1 and 73.8\% Top-5 in 80-way retrieval. ProtoEEG also ranks first on all seven reconstruction metrics. Removing prototype contrast lowers Top-1 by 56.9 percentage points, while shuffling prototype identities reduces it to 0.5\%. Prototype analyses further show distributed assignments and broad codebook use rather than one-prototype routing. These results support structured alignment targets as a practical alternative to increasing encoder or teacher capacity alone.

Neural State Prediction: Obstructing Shortcut Learning in EEG Foundation Models

EEG foundation models increasingly use masked prediction to learn from unlabeled recordings, but optimizing this objective does not ensure transferable neural representations. A central challenge is that stable positional cues and local correlations can make masked regions predictable without integrating distributed neural context. To reduce this reliance on low-information prediction paths, we introduce Neural State Prediction (NSP), a latent-predictive framework that constrains both the prediction target and the available context. NSP uses a Target Encoder updated by an exponential moving average (EMA) to define latent supervision. Identity residualization removes additive effects associated with channel identity and relative time from the targets, while topology-separated context excludes their immediate spatial and temporal neighborhood from the visible input. We pretrain NSP on 2.2 million EEG segments from TUEG and evaluate it across 30 downstream datasets spanning clinical diagnosis, sleep staging, emotion recognition, motor imagery, event-related potentials, cognitive-state decoding, and language retrieval. Under full-parameter multi-task fine-tuning on EEG-FM-Bench, NSP achieves 63.94 macro balanced accuracy across 14 datasets, exceeding the strongest evaluated baseline by 2.35 percentage points. Controlled component ablations assess the contribution of each mechanism, while matched context controls and held-out interventions characterize the role of context geometry, signal content, and positional information. Jointly designing latent targets and their context offers a promising direction for EEG foundation models that learn from distributed signal structure.

DACA-Net: A Degradation-Aware Conditional Diffusion Network for Underwater Image Enhancement

Underwater images typically suffer from severe colour distortions, low visibility, and reduced structural clarity due to complex optical effects such as scattering and absorption, which greatly degrade their visual quality and limit the performance of downstream visual perception tasks. Existing enhancement methods often struggle to adaptively handle diverse degradation conditions and fail to leverage underwater-specific physical priors effectively. In this paper, we propose a degradation-aware conditional diffusion model to enhance underwater images adaptively and robustly. Given a degraded underwater image as input, we first predict its degradation level using a lightweight dual-stream convolutional network, generating a continuous degradation score as semantic guidance. Based on this score, we introduce a novel conditional diffusion-based restoration network with a Swin UNet backbone, enabling adaptive noise scheduling and hierarchical feature refinement. To incorporate underwater-specific physical priors, we further propose a degradation-guided adaptive feature fusion module and a hybrid loss function that combines perceptual consistency, histogram matching, and feature-level contrast. Comprehensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method effectively restores underwater images with superior colour fidelity, perceptual quality, and structural details. Compared with SOTA approaches, our framework achieves significant improvements in both quantitative metrics and qualitative visual assessments.
