Curvaton Scenario in the Presence of Two Dilatons Coupled to the Scalar Curvature

The possibility of the realization of a curvaton scenario is studied in a theory in which two dilatons are introduced along with coupling to the scalar curvature. It is shown that when the two dilatons have an approximate O(2) symmetric coupling, a scalar field playing the role of the curvaton may exist in the framework of this theory without introducing any other scalar field for the curvaton. Thus the curvaton scenario can be realized, and in the simple version of the curvaton scenario, in which the curvaton potential is quadratic, the curvature perturbation with a sufficient amplitude and a nearly scale-invariant spectrum suggested by observations obtained from WMAP can be generated.

Generation of Large-Scale Magnetic Fields from Dilaton Inflation in Noncommutative Spacetime

Generation of large-scale magnetic fields is studied in dilaton electromagnetism in noncommutative inflationary cosmology, taking into account the effects of the spacetime uncertainty principle motivated by string theory. We show that it is possible to generate large-scale magnetic fields with sufficient strength to account for the observed fields in galaxies and clusters of galaxies through only adiabatic compression without dynamo amplification mechanism in models of power-law inflation based on spacetime noncommutativity without introducing a huge hierarchy between the dilaton's potential and its coupling to the electromagnetic fields.

Large-scale magnetic fields from inflation in dilaton electromagnetism

The generation of large-scale magnetic fields is studied in dilaton electromagnetism in inflationary cosmology, taking into account the dilaton's evolution throughout inflation and reheating until it is stabilized with possible entropy production. It is shown that large-scale magnetic fields with observationally interesting strength at the present time could be generated if the conformal invariance of the Maxwell theory is broken through the coupling between the dilaton and electromagnetic fields in such a way that the resultant quantum fluctuations in the magnetic field has a nearly scale-invariant spectrum. If this condition is met, the amplitude of the generated magnetic field could be sufficiently large even in the case huge amount of entropy is produced with the dilution factor $\sim 10^{24}$ as the dilaton decays.
