High-resolution neutron diffraction determination of noncollinear antiferromagnetic order in the honeycomb magnetoelectric Fe$_{4}$Nb$_{2}$O$_{9}$

Magnetoelectric systems offer potential for device applications exploiting coupled states between electric and magnetic properties. Among magnetoelectric materials, \FNO has attracted special attention because of its pronounced dielectric signal at high magnetic transition temperatures. However, the magnetic ground state, which is essential information for understanding its unusual magnetoelectricity, remains unclarified. Here, we report a noncollinear magnetic ground state of Fe$_{4}$Nb$_{2}$O$_{9}$. To examine the magnetoelectric effect associated with sequential magnetic and structural transitions upon cooling, we conducted combined x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, dielectric constant, and magnetodielectric experiments. Powder neutron diffraction experiments revealed a series of magnetic Bragg peaks and clear splitting of peaks via structural transition. Magnetic Rietveld refinements, combined with group theory analysis, determined a noncollinear antiferromagnetic structure including a significant $c$-axis moment component at 1.5 K. This study provides insights into the understanding of its magnetoelectric properties.

Crystal Growth & Physical Property Characterization of Mixed Topological Insulator BiSbTe$_3$

This article reports the synthesis of a single crystalline mixed topological insulator (TI) BiSbTe$_3$ and its detailed structural and magneto-transport properties. The single crystalline samples of BiSbTe$_3$ are grown by the melt-growth process and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and Raman spectroscopy. The single crystal XRD peaks dictated the growth direction along the c-axis. The Raman spectrum elucidated the characteristic peaks of the mixed topological insulator. The broadening of Raman peaks exhibited the formation of Te-Bi-Te and Te-Sb-Te bonds and associated vibrational modes. The single crystals are characterized by magneto-transport measurements down to 2 K and up to 14 Tesla transverse magnetic field. The residual resistance ratio (R200 K/R0 K) is found to be 3.64, which endorses the metallic nature of the synthesized crystal. The relative resistance turns out to be higher for the mixed TI than the pure TIs i.e., Bi$_2$Te$_3$ or Sb$_2$Te$_3$. The lower Debye temperature (82.64 K) of BiSbTe$_3$ connotes the presence of effective electron-phonon interaction at quite low temperatures in comparison to pure TI, which explains the observed suppression in magnetoresistance (MR) for the mixed TI. At 2 K, an MR of 150 percent is observed for BiSbTe$_3$, which is suppressed in contrast to the pure TIs i.e., Bi$_2$Te$_3$ or Sb$_2$Te$_3$. Though the MR% is suppressed significantly, its non-saturating linear behavior indicates the topological nature of the studied mixed TI. The modified Hikami-Larkin-Nagaoka (HLN) equation analysis of magneto-conductivity of mixed TI revealed that the conductivity has not only a surface states driven 2D component but also contributions from the bulk charge carriers and quantum scattering.

Magneto transport and first principle study of strong topological insulator gray Arsenic

This article reports the synthesis of a single crystalline gray Arsenic (As) via the Bismuth flux method. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern revealed the single phase of the grown crystal, which crystallized in the rhombohedral structure with the space group R3m. The sharp XRD peaks observed on mechanically exfoliated thin flakes of the same ensured high crystallinity of the same with growth direction along the c-axis. The resistivity measurements illustrated its metallic nature throughout, right from 300K down to 2K. The measured residual resistivity ratio of the sample is 180, which endorses the high metallic nature of the as-synthesized As single crystal. The transverse magnetic field-dependent resistivity (RH) measurements elucidated huge magneto-resistance (MR) at 2K and 14Tesla transverse magnetic fields. Also seen are the SDH oscillations, indicating the presence of topological surface states. The non-trivial band topology and edge states in As are confirmed by first principle calculations.

Approximation by a new sequence of operators involving Laguerre polynomials

This paper offers a newly created integral approach for operators employing the orthogonal modified Laguerre polynomials and P\u{a}lt\u{a}nea basis. These operators approximate the functions over the interval $[0,\infty)$. Further, the moments are established for the proposed operators, and the universal Korovkin's theorem is used to derive the approximation properties of the operators. We examine convergence using a variety of analytical methods, including the Lipschitz class, Peetre's K-functional, the second-order modulus of smoothness, and the modulus of continuity. Moreover, an asymptotic formula associated with the Voronovskaja-type is established. The approximation is estimated through the weighted modulus of continuity, and convergence of the proposed operators in weighted spaces of functions is investigated as well. Ultimately, we employ numerical examples and visual representations to validate the theoretical findings.

Superconductivity at 9 K in Pb-Bi Alloy

In the present work, we report the synthesis of Pb-Bi alloy with enhanced Tc of up to 9K, which is higher than that of Pb. The alloy is synthesized via a solid-state reaction route in the vacuum-encapsulated quartz tube at 7000C in an automated furnace. The synthesized sample is characterized by X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and Energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDAX) for its phase purity and elemental composition. Rietveld refinement of XRD reveals that the end product is a majority hexagonal Pb7Bi3, with minor rhombohedral Bi. The electronic transport measurement shows metallic behavior with the Debye temperature of 108K and a superconductivity transition temperature (Tc) below 9K, which is the maximum to date for any reported Pb-Bi alloy, Pb or Bi at ambient pressure. Partial substitution of Bi at the Pb site may modify the free density of electronic states within the BCS model to attain the optimum Tc, which is higher by around 2K from the reported Tc of Pb. The superconductor phase diagram derived from magneto-transport measurements reveals that the synthesized alloy is a conventional superconductor with an upper critical field (Hc2) of 3.9 Tesla, which lies well within the Pauli paramagnetic limit. The magnetization measurements carried out following ZFC(Zero Field Cool) protocols infer that the synthesized alloy is a bulk superconductor below 9K. The isothermal M-H(Magnetization vs. Field) measurements performed below Tc establish it as a type-II superconductor. The specific heat capacity measurements show that the Pb-Bi alloy is a strongly coupled bulk superconductor below around 9K with possibly two superconducting gaps.

Weak Anti-Localization Effect in Topological Ni$_3$In$_2$S$_2$ Single Crystal

Ni$_3$In$_2$S$_2$ is the most recent entrant into the family of topological insulator (TI) materials, the same exhibits very high MR in a low-temperature regime. Here, we report the crystal growth, the structural, micro-structural, and magneto-transport study of Ni$_3$In$_2$S$_2$ down to 2.5K under an applied field of up to 14Tesla. The phase purity and growth direction of a single crystal is studied by performing XRD on both powder and flake and further Rietveld analysis is also carried out. The electrical transport measurements are studied and the grown crystal showed metallic behaviour down to 2.5K, with an R300K/R2K ratio of around 7. A significant variation in magnetoresistance (MR) values is observed as the temperature is increased from 2.5K to 200K under an applied field of up to 14 Tesla. Interestingly the low T (2.5K), MR shows a clear V-type characteristic TI cusp. Magnetoconductivity data at low fields (1Tesla) is fitted with the Hikami Larkin Nagaoka (HLN) model, which showed the presence of a weak anti-localization effect in the synthesized Ni$_3$In$_2$S$_2$ crystal at low temperatures. We have successfully grown near single-phase Ni$_3$In$_2$S$_2$ and its TI behavior is demonstrated by magneto-transport measurements.

Optimizing Hierarchical Queries for the Attribution Reporting API

We study the task of performing hierarchical queries based on summary reports from the {\em Attribution Reporting API} for ad conversion measurement. We demonstrate that methods from optimization and differential privacy can help cope with the noise introduced by privacy guardrails in the API. In particular, we present algorithms for (i) denoising the API outputs and ensuring consistency across different levels of the tree, and (ii) optimizing the privacy budget across different levels of the tree. We provide an experimental evaluation of the proposed algorithms on public datasets.

Absence of superconductivity in LK-99 at ambient conditions

The report of synthesis of modified Lead apatite (LK-99) with evidence of superconductivity at more than boiling water temperature has steered the whole scientific community. There have been several failures to reproduce superconductivity in LK-99 including partial successes. Here, we have continued our efforts to synthesize phase pure LK-99 with improved precursors. The process has been followed as suggested by Sukbae Lee et. al., [1,2]. The phase purity of each precursor is evidenced by Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and well fitted by Rietveld refinement. The PXRD confirms the synthesis of phase pure polycrystalline LK-99 with apatite structure. The freshly synthesized sample does not show any signature of superconductivity levitation on a magnet (diamagnetism). The magnetization measurements on SQUID also show that LK-99 is diamagnetic at 280 K, there is no sign of superconductivity in LK-99 at room temperature. Moreover, we have also performed first principle calculations to investigate the electronic band structure of the LK-99 near Fermi level. Our study verifies that the Cu doped lead apatite (LK-99) has bands crossing at Fermi level, indicating generation of strong correlation in the system.

Synthesis of possible room temperature superconductor LK-99:Pb$_9$Cu(PO$_4$)$_6$O

The quest for room-temperature superconductors has been teasing scientists and physicists, since its inception in 1911 itself. Several assertions have already been made about room temperature superconductivity but were never verified or reproduced across the labs. The cuprates were the earliest high transition temperature superconductors, and it seems that copper has done the magic once again. Last week, a Korean group synthesized a Lead Apatite-based compound LK-99, showing a T$_c$ of above 400$^\circ$K. The signatures of superconductivity in the compound are very promising, in terms of resistivity (R = 0) and diamagnetism at T$_c$. Although, the heat capacity (C$_p$) did not show the obvious transition at T$_c$. Inspired by the interesting claims of above room temperature superconductivity in LK-99, in this article, we report the synthesis of polycrystalline samples of LK-99, by following the same heat treatment as reported in [1,2] by the two-step precursor method. The phase is confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, performed after each heat treatment. The room temperature diamagnetism is not evidenced by the levitation of a permanent magnet over the sample or vice versa. Further measurements for the confirmation of bulk superconductivity on variously synthesized samples are underway. Our results on the present LK-99 sample, being synthesized at 925$^\circ$C, as of now do not approve the appearance of bulk superconductivity at room temperature. Further studies with different heat treatments are though, yet underway.

Drastic suppression of CDW (charge density wave) by Pd addition in TiSe2

TiSe2 is a known Topological semimetal (TSM) having both the semi-metallic and topological characters simultaneously and the Charge density wave (CDW) at below 200K. In the current short article, we study the impact of Pd addition on the CDW character of TiSe2 and the possible induction of superconductivity at low temperatures. Bulk samples of TiSe2 and Pd0.1TiSe2 are synthesized by solid-state reaction route, which is further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), respectively, for their structural and micro-structural details. The vibrational modes of both samples are being analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, showing the occurrence of both A1g and Eg modes. CDW of pure TiSe2 seen at around 200K in electrical transport measurements, in terms of sharp semi-metallic to metallic transition peak with hysteresis in cooling/warming cycles is not seen in Pd0.1TiSe2, and rather a near metallic transport is seen down to 2K. Although superconductivity is not seen down to 2K, the CDW transition is seemingly completely suppressed in Pd0.1TiSe2. Pd addition in TiSe2 suppresses CDW drastically. Trials are underway to induce superconductivity in Pd-added TiSe2. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show primary evidence of suppression of CDW by adding Pd in TiSe2 due to an increase in the density of states.

Growth, structure, micro-structure and magneto transport of an easy route synthesized bulk polycrystalline TiSe2

This article reports an easy route synthesis of bulk polycrystalline TiSe2. Phase purity and microstructure are determined through powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) respectively. Vibrational modes of TiSe2 as being analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, show the occurrence of both Ag and Eg modes. Charge density wave (CDW) is observed in transport measurements of TiSe2 with hysteresis in cooling and warming measurements at around 180K. Further, studied TiSe2 showed negative magnetoresistance (MR) below the CDW and a small positive MR above the CDW.

Effect of magnetic (Nd) doping on electrical and magnetic properties of topological Sb2Te3 single crystal

Here, we report the growth and characterization of single crystals of NdxSb2-xTe3, by solid state reaction route via self-flux method. The phase and layered growth are confirmed through x-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopy respectively. A slight contraction in lattice parameters is seen after Nd doping. Also a minute shift in vibrational modes of recorded Raman spectra has been observed by doping of Nd in Sb2Te3. The magneto-resistance values under magnetic field of 5Tesla for Sb2Te3 are 75 percent at 2.5K and 60 percent at 20K, but only 40 percent at 5K for Nd0.1Sb1.9Te3. DC magnetic measurements exhibit expected diamagnetic and paramagnetic behaviors for pure and Nd doped crystals respectively. A cusp-like behavior is observed in magneto conductivity of both pure and Nd doped crystals at low magnetic fields below 1 Tesla which is analyzed using Hikami Larkin Nagaoka (HLN) model. For Sb2Te3 the fitted parameters alpha values are -1.02 and -0.58 and the phase coherence lengths are 50.8(6)nm & 34.9(8)nm at temperatures 2.5K and 20K respectively. For Nd0.1Sb1.9Te3, alpha is -0.29 and coherence length is 27.2(1) nm at 5K. The {\alpha} values clearly show the presence of weak anti localization effect in both, pure and Nd doped samples. Also with Nd doping, the contribution of bulk states increases in addition to conducting surface states in overall conduction mechanism.

Excited-state dynamics of structurally characterized crystal of SnxSb1-x

The topological behavior of heavy metal alloys opens a vast area for incredible research and future technology. Here, we extend our previous report about the superconducting properties of Sn0.4Sb0.6 along with the compositional variation of Sn and Sb in SnxSb1-x (with (X=0.5 and 0.6)) to study the detailed optical properties. Structural and morphological details of grown crystal are carried from the previous study. Further, the samples are excited by a pump of 2.61 eV with a broad probe of 0.77-1.54 eV in the NIR regime for transient reflectance ultrafast studies (TRUS) measurements. The differential reflectance profile shows an unprecedented negative magnitude, and the average power-dependent analysis of this negative trend has been analyzed. This article not only provides evidence of band filling phenomenon in the samples but also shows that with the variation of average power, there is a definite increase in the excited charge carriers, and thereby enhancing the band filling response. The estimated value of the bandgap between the band filled states and valence state is also determined from these studies. The nonlinear properties and bandgap analysis of the studied topological alloys and similar materials help in the advancement of various nonlinear optical applications.

Type-II Superconductivity below 4K in Sn0.4Sb0.6

In this article, we report the occurrence of superconductivity in Sn0.4Sb0.6 single crystal at below 4K. Rietveld refined Powder XRD data confirms the phase purity of as grown crystal, crystallizing in rhombohedral R-3m space group with an elongated (2xc) unit cell in c-direction. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) image and EDAX measurement confirm the laminar growth and near to desired stoichiometry ratio. Raman Spectroscopy data shows the vibrational modes of Sn-Sb and Sb-Sb modes at 110 and 135cm-1. ZFC (Zero-Field-Cooled) magnetization measurements done at 10Oe showed sharp superconducting transitions at 4K along with a minor step at 3.5K. On the other hand, Paramagnetic Meissner Effect (PME) is observed in FC measurements. Magnetization vs applied field (M-H) plots at 2, 2.2, 2.5, 2.7, 3, 3.2, 3.5, and 3.7K shows typical Type-II nature of observed superconductivity with lower and upper critical fields (Hc1 and Hc2) at 69.42Oe and 630Oe respectively at 2K. Type-II superconductivity is also confirmed by calculated Ginzburg-Landau Kappa parameter value of 3.55. Characteristics length viz. coherence length and penetration depth are also calculated. Weak granular coupling is observed from R-T plot, in which resistance is not dropping to zero down to 2K.

Classification of Flames in Computer Mediated Communications

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) has brought about a revolution in the way the world communicates with each other. With the increasing number of people, interacting through the internet and the rise of new platforms and technologies has brought together the people from different social, cultural and geographical backgrounds to present their thoughts, ideas and opinions on topics of their interest. CMC has, in some cases, gave users more freedom to express themselves as compared to Face-to-face communication. This has also led to rise in the use of hostile and aggressive language and terminologies uninhibitedly. Since such use of language is detrimental to the discussion process and affects the audience and individuals negatively, efforts are being taken to control them. The research sees the need to understand the concept of flaming and hence attempts to classify them in order to give a better understanding of it. The classification is done on the basis of type of flame content being presented and the Style in which they are presented.
