Central charge

Proceeding in exactly the same way as in the derivation of the temperature of a dual CFT for the extremal black hole in the Kerr/CFT correspondence, it is found that the temperature of a chiral, dual CFT for the Schwarzschild black hole is $T=1/2\pi$. Comparing Cardy's formula with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and using $T$, it is found that the central charge for the Schwarzschild black hole is of the form $c=12J_{\rm in}$, where $J_{\rm in}$ is the intrinsic angular momentum of the black hole, $J_{\rm in}=A/8\pi G$. It is shown that the central charge for any four-dimensional (4D) extremal black hole is of the same form. The possible universality of this form is briefly discussed.

The entropy and mean separation between energy levels of black hole

According to the widely accepted statistical interpretation of black hole entropy the mean separation between energy levels of black hole should be exponentially small. But this sharply disagrees with the value obtained from the quantization of black hole area. It is shown that the new statistical interpretation of black hole entropy proposed in my paper arXiv:0911.5635 gives the correct value.

Information transfer from black holes via white holes

It is shown that a black hole can be in two states: one with positive and other with negative surface gravity $k$. The state with $k<0$ corresponds to a white hole. In this state there is no information loss. In the quantization of black hole area the surface of a black hole is divided into a system of independent patches, each of which can be in two states: one with $k>0$ and other with $k<0$. Then the entropy goes like the area and information can be recovered from the black hole.

Black hole motion in Euclidean space as a diffusion process II

A diffusion equation approach to black hole thermodynamics in Euclidean sector is proposed. A diffusion equation for a generic in Euclidean sector is derived from the Bloch equation. Black hole thermodynamics is also derived and it is found, in particular, that the entropy of a generic Kerr-Newman black hole is the same, apart from the logarithmic corrections, as the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole.

Contradictory implications of the nonadditive entropy

It is shown that the concept of nonadditive black hole entropy leads to the contradictory implications in the framework of statistical thermodynamics. In particular, a black hole with the nonadditive entropy cannot be in thermal equilibrium with ordinary matter. Moreover, such black holes are mutually exclusive, i.e. they cannot compose a single system.

Microcanonical distribution for black hole with allowance for nonadditivity

It is shown that with allowance for nonadditivity the (canonical) distribution for a black hole transforms to a (microcanonical) distribution which depends on nonadditive integrals of the motion and represents a nonlinear function of energy - the square of black hole mass. From a comparison with the standard microcanonical distribution it is found that the statistical weight of black hole should be proportional to the black hole area. A definition of the black hole entropy consistent with the statistical weight is proposed.

What is the maximum rate at which entropy of a string can increase?

According to Susskind, a string falling toward a black hole spreads exponentially over the stretched horizon due to repulsive interactions of the string bits. In this paper such a string is modeled as a self-avoiding walk and the string entropy is found. It is shown that the rate at which information/entropy contained in the string spreads is the maximum rate allowed by quantum theory. The maximum rate at which the black hole entropy can increase when a string falls into a black hole is also discussed.

Kolmogorov-Sinai and Bekenstein-Hawking entropies

It is shown that instability of stringy matter near the event horizon of a black hole (the spreading effect) can be characterized by the Lyapunov exponents. The Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy is the sum of all the positive Lyapunov exponents and equals to the inverse gravitational radius. Due to a replacement of the configuration space of a string by its phase space at distance of order of the string scale, the relation between the Kolmogorov-Sinai and Bekenstein-Hawking entropies is established. The KS entropy of a black hole measures the rate at which information about the state of a string collapsing into the black hole is lost with time as it spreads over the horizon.

The Poincaré recurrence time for the de Sitter space with dynamical chaos

For an ordinary thermodynamical system the Poincaré recurrence time is exponentially large in the Boltzmann entropy of the system. It turns out, that for a system with dynamical chaos it is determined by the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy and can be considerably shorter. It is shown in this note that for the de Sitter space with strong mixing properties the mean recurrence time is equal to the inverse Hubble constant. This means that our universe can have a finite lifetime bounded by the current age of the universe. After this time, the universe should recycle itself and this process has neither a beginning nor an end.

A note on vacuum energy from the de Sitter spectrum

It is shown that a well-known relation between entropy of a system and its energy spectrum being applied to the early universe determines the present vacuum energy and the time scale on which this energy can manifest itself. Given the present vacuum energy, the relation imposes a constraint on the initial inflationary state.
