Measurement of the hyperon weak radiative decay $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ at BESIII

The hyperon weak radiative decay $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is measured via the process $J/\psi\to\Xi^0\bar\Xi^0$. The absolute branching fraction of $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is determined to be $(3.69\pm 0.21_{\text{stat}}\pm0.12_{\text{syst}})\times 10^{-3}$, based on $(10.087\pm 0.044)\times 10^{9}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The decay asymmetry parameter is measured, with a complete angular analysis of the cascade decay chain, to be $\alpha_{\gamma} = -0.807\pm 0.095_{\text{stat}}\pm 0.011_{\text{syst}}$.

Measurement of the Inclusive Cross Sections of Prompt $J/\psi$ and $\psi(3686)$ Production in $e^{+}e^{-}$ Annihilation from $\sqrt{s}=3.808$ to $4.951$ GeV

The inclusive cross sections of prompt $J/\psi$ and $\psi(3686)$ production are measured at center-of-mass energies from 3.808 to 4.951 GeV. The dataset used is 22 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The results obtained are in agreement with the previous BESIII measurements of exclusive $J/\psi$ and $\psi(3686)$ production. The average values obtained for the cross sections measured in the center-of-mass energy ranges from 4.527 to 4.951 GeV for $J/\psi$ and from 4.843 to 4.951 GeV for $\psi(3686)$, where the impact of known resonances is negligible, are $14.0\pm1.7\pm3.1$ pb and $15.3\pm3.0$ pb, respectively. For $J/\psi$, the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. For $\psi(3686)$, the uncertainty is total. These values are useful for testing charmonium production models.

Precision measurement of the branching fraction of \boldmath $J/\psi\rightarrow K^+K^-$ via $\psi(2S)\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$

Using a sample of $448.1 \times 10^6$ $\psi(2S)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of the decay $J/\psi\rightarrow K^+K^-$ via $\psi(2S)\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$. The branching fraction of $J/\psi\rightarrow K^+K^-$ is determined to be $\mathcal{B}_{K^+K^-}=(3.072\pm 0.023({\rm stat.})\pm 0.050({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$, which is consistent with previous measurements but with significantly improved precision.

Search for the leptonic decays $D^{*+}\to e^+\nu_e$ and $D^{*+}\to \mu^+\nu_\mu$

We present the first search for the leptonic decays $D^{*+}\to e^+\nu_e$ and $D^{*+}\to \mu^+\nu_\mu$ by analyzing a data sample of electron-positron collisions recorded with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32~fb$^{-1}$. No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on the branching fractions for $D^{*+}\to e^+\nu_e$ and $D^{*+}\to \mu^+\nu_\mu$ are set to be $1.1 \times 10^{-5}$ and $4.3 \times 10^{-6}$ at 90\% confidence level, respectively.

Measurement of $e^{+}e^{-}\to \omega\eta^{\prime}$ cross sections at $\sqrt{s}=$ 2.000 to 3.080 GeV

The Born cross sections for the process $e^{+}e^{-}\to \omega\eta^{\prime}$ are measured at 22 center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV using data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. A resonant structure is observed with a statistical significance of 9.6$\sigma$. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass to be $M_R=(2153\pm30\pm31)~{\rm{MeV}}/c^{2}$ and its width to be $\Gamma_{R}=(167\pm77\pm7)~\rm{MeV}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Observation of the semileptonic decays $D^0\rightarrow K_S^0\pi^-\pi^0 e^+ \nu_e$ and $D^+\rightarrow K_S^0\pi^+\pi^- e^+ \nu_e$

By analyzing $e^+e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the \text{BESIII} detector, the first observation of the semileptonic decays $D^0\rightarrow K_S^0\pi^-\pi^0 e^+ \nu_e$ and $D^+\rightarrow K_S^0\pi^+\pi^- e^+ \nu_e$ is reported. With a dominant hadronic contribution from $K_1(1270)$, the branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow {K}_1(1270)^-(\to K^0_S\pi^-\pi^0)e^+\nu_e)=(1.69^{+0.53}_{-0.46}\pm0.15)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0(\to K^0_S\pi^+\pi^-)e^+\nu_e)=(1.47^{+0.45}_{-0.40}\pm0.20)\times10^{-4}$ with statistical significance of 5.4$\sigma$ and 5.6$\sigma$, respectively. When combined with measurements of the $K_1(1270)\to K^+\pi^-\pi$ decays, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+\nu_e)=(1.05^{+0.33}_{-0.28}\pm0.12\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0e^+\nu_e)=(1.29^{+0.40}_{-0.35}\pm0.18\pm0.15)\times10^{-3}$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainties originate from the assumed branching fractions of the $K_1(1270)\to K\pi\pi$ decays.

Precise Measurement of Born Cross Sections for $e^+e^-\to D\bar{D}$ at $\sqrt{s} = 3.80-4.95$ GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$, a measurement of Born cross sections for the $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ around the mass range of $G(3900)$, $\psi(4040)$, $\psi(4160)$, $Y(4260)$, and $\psi(4415)$, etc., are foreseen. These results offer crucial experimental insights into the nature of hadron production in the open-charm region.

Study of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV at BESIII

With the data samples taken at center-of-mass energies from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis on the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ process is performed. The Born cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ and its intermediate processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\rho\pi$ and $\rho(1450)\pi$ are measured as functions of $\sqrt{s}$. The results for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ are consistent with previous results measured with the initial state radiation method within one standard deviation, and improve the uncertainty by a factor of ten. By fitting the line shapes of the Born cross sections for the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\rho\pi$ and $\rho(1450)\pi$, a structure with mass $M = 2119\pm11\pm15\ {\rm MeV}/c^2$ and width $\Gamma=69\pm30\pm5 {\rm MeV}$ is observed with a significance of $5.9\sigma$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. This structure can be intepreteted as an excited $\omega$ state.

Observation of structures in the processes $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c1}$ and $\omega\chi_{c2}$

We present measurements of the Born cross sections for the processes $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c1}$ and $\omega\chi_{c2}$ at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.308 to 4.951 GeV. The measurements are performed with data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.0 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Assuming the $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c2}$ signals come from a single resonance, the mass and width are determined to be $M=(4413.6\pm9.0\pm0.8)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $\Gamma=(110.5\pm15.0\pm2.9)$ MeV, respectively, which is consistent with the parameters of the well-established resonance $\psi(4415)$. In addition, we also use one single resonance to describe the $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c1}$ lineshape, and determine the mass and width to be $M=(4544.2\pm18.7\pm1.7)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $\Gamma=(116.1\pm33.5\pm1.7)$ MeV, respectively. The structure of this lineshape, observed for the first time, requires further understanding.

$\mathcal R(3780)$ Resonance Interpreted as the $1^3D_1$-Wave Dominant State of Charmonium from Precise Measurements of the Cross Section of $e^+e^-\rightarrow$ Hadrons

We report the precise measurements of the cross section of $e^+e^-\rightarrow$ hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We thereby perform the most precise study of the cross sections and find a complex system composed of three resonances of $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$. For the first time, we measure the $\mathcal R(3810)$ electronic width to be $(19.4 \pm 7.4 \pm 12.1)$ eV. For the $\mathcal R(3760)$ resonance, we measure the mass to be $(3751.9\pm 3.8\pm 2.8)$ MeV/$c^2$, the total width to be $(32.8 \pm 5.8 \pm 8.7)$ MeV, and the electronic width to be $(184\pm 75\pm 86)$ eV. For the $\mathcal R(3780)$ resonance, we measure its mass to be $(3778.7\pm 0.5\pm 0.3)$ MeV/$c^2$, total width to be $(20.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 1.7)$ MeV, and electronic width to be $(265\pm 67\pm 83)$ eV. Forty-seven years ago, the $\psi(3770)$ resonance was discovered, and was subsequently interpreted as the $1^3D_1$-wave dominant state of charmonium. However, our analysis of the total-hadron cross sections indicates that the $\psi(3770)$ is not a single state, but a complex system composed of the $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$ resonances. Among these, we interpret the $\mathcal R(3780)$ is a resonance dominated by the $1^3D_1$ charmonium state.

Search for the decay $\chi_{c1}(3872)\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\chi_{c1}$

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10.9 fb$^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.16 to 4.34 GeV with the BESIII detector, we search for the decay $\chi_{c1}(3872) \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\chi_{c1}$ in the radiative production $e^{+}e^{-} \to \gamma \chi_{c1}(3872)$. No significant signal is observed, and the ratio for the branching fraction of $\chi_{c1}(3872) \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\chi_{c1}$ to $\chi_{c1}(3872) \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi$ is measured as $\mathcal{R}\equiv\frac{\mathcal{B}[\chi_{c1}(3872) \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\chi_{c1}]}{\mathcal{B}[\chi_{c1}(3872) \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-} J/\psi]}<0.18$ at 90$\%$ confidence level. The upper limit on the product of the cross section $\sigma[e^{+}e^{-}\to\gamma\chi_{c1}(3872)]$ and the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}[\chi_{c1}(3872)\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\chi_{c1}]$ at each center-of-mass energy is also given. These measurements favor the non-conventional charmonium nature of the $\chi_{c1}(3872)$ state.

Observation of significant flavor-SU(3) breaking in the kaon wave function at $12~{\rm GeV}^2<Q^2<25~{\rm GeV}^2$ and discovery of the charmless decay $\psi(3770)\to K_S^0K_L^0$

We present cross sections for the reaction $e^+e^-\to K_S^0K_L^0$ at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.51 GeV to 4.95 GeV using data samples collected in the BESIII experiment, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 26.5 fb$^{-1}$. The ratio of neutral-to-charged kaon form factors at large momentum transfers ($12~{\rm GeV}^2<Q^2<25~{\rm GeV}^2$) is determined to be $0.21\pm 0.01$, which indicates a small but significant effect of flavor-SU(3) breaking in the kaon wave function, and consequently excludes the possibility that flavor-SU(3) breaking is the primary reason for the strong experimental violation of the pQCD prediction $|F(\pi^{\pm})|/|F(K^{\pm})|=f^2_{\pi}/f^2_{K}$, where $F(\pi^{\pm})$ and $F(K^{\pm})$ are the form factors, and $f_{\pi}$ and $f_{K}$ are the decay constants of charged pions and kaons, respectively. We also observe a significant signal for the charmless decay $\psi(3770)\to K_S^0K_L^0$ for the first time. Within a $1\sigma$ contour of the likelihood value, the the branching fraction for $\psi(3770)\to K_S^0K_L^0$ is determined to be ${\cal B}=(2.63_{-1.59}^{+1.40})\times 10^{-5}$, and the relative phase between the continuum and $\psi(3770)$ amplitudes is $\phi=(-0.39_{-0.10}^{+0.05})\pi$. The branching fraction is in good agreement with the $\mathcal{S}$- and $\mathcal{D}$-wave charmonia mixing scheme proposed in the interpretation of the "$\rho\pi$ puzzle" between $J/\psi$ and $\psi(3686)$ decays.

Determination of spin-parity quantum numbers of X(2370) as $0^{-+}$ from $J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}\eta^{\prime}$

Based on $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial wave analysis of the decay $J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}\eta^{\prime}$ is performed. The mass and width of the $X(2370)$ are measured to be $2395 \pm 11 ({\rm stat})^{+26}_{-94}({\rm syst})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$ and $188^{+18}_{-17}({\rm stat})^{+124}_{-33}({\rm syst})~\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. The corresponding product branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}[J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma X(2370)] \times \mathcal{B}[X(2370) \rightarrow f_{0}(980)\eta^{\prime}] \times \mathcal{B}[f_{0}(980) \rightarrow K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}] = \left( 1.31 \pm 0.22 ({\rm stat})^{+2.85}_{-0.84}({\rm syst}) \right) \times 10^{-5}$. The statistical significance of the $X(2370)$ is greater than $11.7\sigma$ and the spin-parity is determined to be $0^{-+}$ for the first time. The measured mass and spin-parity of the $X(2370)$ are consistent with the predictions of the lightest pseudoscalar glueball.

First observation of $\Lambda_c^+\rightarrow\Lambda K^+\pi^0$ and evidence of $\Lambda_c^+\rightarrow\Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^-$

We present the first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^0$ with a significance of $5.7\sigma$ and the first evidence of $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^-$ decay with a significance of $3.1\sigma$, based on $e^+e^-$ annihilation data recorded by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of $6.4~{\rm fb^{-1}}$, in the center-of-mass energy range from $4.600~{\rm GeV}$ to $4.950~{\rm GeV}$. We determine the branching fractions of $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^0$ and $\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^-$ relative to their Cabibbo-favored counterparts to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^0)}{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda \pi^+\pi^0)} = (2.09\pm0.39_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.07_{\mathrm{syst.}}) \times 10^{-2}$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^-)}{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+ \rightarrow \Lambda \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-)} = (1.13\pm0.41_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.06_{\mathrm{syst.}}) \times 10^{-2}$, respectively. Moreover, by combining our measured result with the world average of $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda^+_c\to \Lambda\pi^+\pi^0)$, we obtain the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+ \to \Lambda K^+\pi^0) = (1.49\pm0.27_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.05_{\mathrm{syst.}}\pm0.08_{\mathrm{ref.}}) \times 10^{-3}$. This result significantly departs from theoretical predictions based on quark $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry, which is underpinned by the presumption of meson pair $S$-wave amplitude dominance.

Improved measurement of the decays $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+(0)}\pi^{-(0)}$ and search for the rare decay $\eta' \to 4\pi^{0}$

Using a sample of 10 billion $J/{\psi}$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$, $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ and $\eta' \to 4 \pi^{0}$ are studied via the process $J/{\psi}\to\gamma\eta'$. The branching fractions of $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ and $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ $\pi^{0}$ are measured to be $( 8.56 \pm 0.25({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.23({\rm syst.}) ) \times {10^{ - 5}}$ and $(2.12 \pm 0.12({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.10({\rm syst.})) \times {10^{ - 4}}$, respectively, which are consistent with previous measurements but with improved precision. No significant $\eta' \to 4 \pi^{0}$ signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction of this decay is determined to be less than $1.24 \times {10^{-5}}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level. In addition, an amplitude analysis of $\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ is performed to extract the doubly virtual isovector form factor $\alpha$ for the first time. The measured value of $\alpha=1.22 \pm 0.33({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.04({\rm syst.})$, is in agreement with the prediction of the VMD model.

Study of the decay $J/\psi \to \phi \pi^{0}\eta$

Based on $(10.09 \pm 0.04) \times 10^9$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis of the decay $J/\psi \to \phi \pi^{0}\eta$ is performed. We observe for the first time two new structures on the $\phi\eta$ invariant mass distribution, with statistical significances of $24.0\sigma$ and $16.9\sigma$; the first with $J^{\rm PC}$ = $1^{+-}$, mass M = (1911 $\pm$ 6 (stat.) $\pm$ 14 (sys.))~MeV/$c^{2}$, and width $\Gamma = $ (149 $\pm$ 12 (stat.) $\pm$ 23 (sys.))~MeV, the second with $J^{\rm PC}$ = $1^{--}$, mass M = (1996 $\pm$ 11 (stat.) $\pm$ 30 (sys.))~MeV/$c^{2}$, and width $\Gamma$ = (148 $\pm$ 16 (stat.) $\pm$ 66 (sys.))~MeV. These measurements provide important input for the strangeonium spectrum. In addition, the $f_0(980)-a_0(980)^0$ mixing signal in $J/\psi \to \phi f_0(980) \to \phi a_0(980)^0$ and the corresponding electromagnetic decay $J/\psi \to \phi a_0(980)^0$ are measured with improved precision, providing crucial information to understand the nature of $a_0(980)^0$ and $f_0(980)$.

Evidence of the Singly Cabibbo Suppressed decay $\Lambda_c^+\to p\pi^0$

Evidence for the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay $\Lambda_c^+\to p\pi^0$ is reported for the first time with a statistical significance of $3.7\sigma$ based on 6.0 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.843 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The absolute branching fraction of $\Lambda_c^+\to p\pi^0$ is measured to be $(1.56^{+0.72}_{-0.58}\pm0.20)\times 10^{-4}$. Combining with the branching fraction of $\Lambda_c^+\to n\pi^+$, $(6.6\pm1.3)\times10^{-4}$, the ratio of the branching fractions of $\Lambda_c^+\to n\pi^+$ and $\Lambda_c^+\to p\pi^0$ is calculated to be $3.2^{+2.2}_{-1.2}$. As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the non-factorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of $\Lambda_c^+\to p\eta$ is measured to be $(1.63\pm0.31_{\rm stat}\pm0.11_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-3}$.
