Observables in Schr\"odinger CFTs: How Aliens Built the Pyramids

We discuss the algebraic structure of observables in Schr\"odinger CFTs. These operators have zero mass (or particle number) and generically transform in staggered ''pyramid representations'' built from ''alien operators,'' as we explain with the doubled state-operator correspondence. We comment on implications for the space of non-relativistic CFTs, thermal physics, and generalize the exceptional symmetry conservation laws of Bekaert, Meunier, and Moroz, and Golkar and Son. We show that alien operators are analogous to double-twist operators in Lorentzian CFT, with systematic cross-channel corrections from massless particles when they exist.

Loop Corrected Supercharges from Holomorphic Anomalies

We describe the loop corrections to supercharges in supersymmetric quantum field theories using the holomorphic twist formalism. We begin by reviewing the relation between supercharge corrections and the "twice-generalized" Konishi anomaly, which corrects the semi-chiral ring. In the holomorphic twist, these corrections appear as BRST anomalies and are computed using the higher operations of an underlying $L_\infty$ conformal algebra. We then apply this formalism to obtain the complete one-loop corrections to the supercharge of four-dimensional Lagrangian supersymmetric gauge theories, including $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM, where it admits a remarkably compact expression in terms of superfields.

Revisiting Schr\"odinger CFTs: Factorization, Massless Particles, and a Path to the Bootstrap

We revisit Schr\"odinger CFTs from a modern point of view. We introduce the ''harmonic trap geometry,'' analogous to the cylinder picture in relativistic CFTs, and demonstrate a state-operator correspondence that applies to all operators, including descendant, massless, and ''normal-ordered operators.'' A thermofield double construction plays an extremely important role. We systematically classify all physical spectra in the harmonic trap and their unitarity bounds, extending earlier results to include both massless and massive states of all spins, providing a new analytic treatment of unitarity bounds, and establishing foundations for a bootstrap. In our reformulation, previously known perturbative non-renormalization theorems follow immediately from non-perturbative factorization at fixed points and along RG flows. Massless states are described by an effective 1d CFT, as predicted by DLCQ, and violate the non-renormalization theorems. We include a self-consistent review of Schr\"odinger CFTs in our framework, making the paper accessible to anyone with a field theory background.

Do null defects dream of conformal symmetry?

We initiate the study of null line defects in Lorentzian conformal field theories in various dimensions. We show that null lines geometrically preserve a larger set of conformal isometries than their timelike and spacelike counterparts, explain a connection to non-relativistic systems, and constrain correlation functions using conformal Ward identities. We argue that having conformal symmetry, and especially maximal conformal symmetry, is extremely constraining -- nearly trivializing systems. We consider the (3+1)d scalar pinning field and null Wilson line examples in depth, compare their results to ultraboosted limits of timelike and spacelike systems, and argue that shockwave-type solutions are generic. A number of physical consistency conditions compel us to consider defect correlators as distributions on a restricted subspace of Schwartz test functions. Consequently, we provide a resolution to the longstanding problem of ultraboosted limits of gauge potentials in classical electromagnetism. We briefly analyze semi-infinite sources for the scalar in ($4-\epsilon$)-dimensions, consider solutions on the Lorentzian cylinder, and introduce the ''perfect null polygon'' which emerges for compatibility between Gauss' law and ultraboosted limits.

Multiparticle States for the Flat Hologram

We use the extrapolate dictionary to revisit the spectrum of operators in Celestial CFT. Under the Celestial CFT map, each state in the 4D Hilbert space should map to one in the 2D Hilbert space. This implies that, beyond the familiar single particle states/operators, there should be multiparticle operators appearing in the celestial OPE. We extend the existing flat-space dictionary by constructing composite primaries from both Carrollian and Celestial perspectives. In the process, we demonstrate some subtleties in deriving the Poincar\'e primary condition from the Carrollian limit, clarify the compatibility of principal series representations with highest weight representations and unitarity in Celestial CFT, and discuss how the celestial OPE block expansion emerges from a 2D CFT standpoint.

Holographic Foliations: Self-Similar Quasicrystals from Hyperbolic Honeycombs

Discrete geometries in hyperbolic space are of longstanding interest in pure mathematics and have come to recent attention in holography, quantum information, and condensed matter physics. Working at a purely geometric level, we describe how any regular tessellation of ($d+1$)-dimensional hyperbolic space naturally admits a $d$-dimensional boundary geometry with self-similar ''quasicrystalline'' properties. In particular, the boundary geometry is described by a local, invertible, self-similar substitution tiling, that discretizes conformal geometry. We greatly refine an earlier description of these local substitution rules that appear in the 1D/2D example and use the refinement to give the first extension to higher dimensional bulks; including a detailed account for all regular 3D hyperbolic tessellations. We comment on global issues, including the reconstruction of bulk geometries from boundary data, and introduce the notion of a ''holographic foliation'': a foliation by a stack of self-similar quasicrystals, where the full geometry of the bulk (and of the foliation itself) is encoded in any single leaf in a local invertible way. In the $\{3,5,3\}$ tessellation of 3D hyperbolic space by regular icosahedra, we find a 2D boundary quasicrystal admitting points of 5-fold symmetry which is not the Penrose tiling, and record and comment on a related conjecture of William Thurston. We end with a large list of open questions for future analytic and numerical studies.

Higher Operations in Perturbation Theory

We discuss the role of formal deformation theory in quantum field theories and present various ``higher operations'' which control their deformations, (generalized) OPEs, and anomalies. Particular attention is paid to holomorphic-topological theories where we systematically describe and regularize the Feynman diagrams which compute these higher operations in free and perturbative scenarios, including examples with defects. We prove geometrically that the resulting higher operations satisfy expected ``quadratic axioms,'' which can be interpreted physically as a form of Wess-Zumino consistency condition for BRST symmetry. We discuss a higher-dimensional analogue of Kontsevich's formality theorem, which proves the absence of perturbative corrections in TQFTs with two or more topological directions. We discuss at some length the relation of our work to the theory of factorization algebras and provide an introduction to the subject for physicists.

Semi-Chiral Operators in 4d ${\cal N}=1$ Gauge Theories

We discuss the properties of quarter-BPS local operators in four dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory using the formalism of holomorphic twists. We study loop corrections both to the space of local operators and to algebraic operations which endow the twisted theory with an infinite symmetry algebra. We classify all single-trace quarter-BPS operators in the planar approximation for $SU(N)$ gauge theory and propose a holographic dual description for the twisted theory. We classify perturbative quarter-BPS operators in $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ gauge theories with sufficiently small quantum numbers and discuss possible non-perturbative corrections to the answer. We set up analogous calculations for some theories with matter.

Feynman Diagrams in Four-Dimensional Holomorphic Theories and the Operatope

We study a class of universal Feynman integrals which appear in four-dimensional holomorphic theories. We recast the integrals as the Fourier transform of a certain polytope in the space of loop momenta (aka the ``Operatope''). We derive a set of quadratic recursion relations which appear to fully determine the final answer. Our strategy can be applied to a very general class of twisted supersymmetric quantum field theories.

Notes on Resonances and Unitarity from Celestial Amplitudes

We study the celestial description of the $O(N)$ sigma model in the large $N$ limit as introduced by Coleman, Jackiw and Politzer. Focusing on three dimensions, we analyze the implications of a UV complete, all-loop order 4-point amplitude of pions in terms of correlation functions defined on the celestial circle. We find these retain many key features from the previously studied tree-level case, such as their relation to Generalized Free Field theories and crossing-symmetry, but also incorporate new properties such as IR/UV softness and S-matrix metastable states. In particular, to understand unitarity, we propose a form of the optical theorem that controls the imaginary part of the correlator based solely on the presence of these resonances. We also explicitly analyze the conformal block expansions and factorization of four-point functions into three-point functions. We find that summing over resonances is key for these factorization properties to hold. We end with some topics for future study.

Duality Defects in $E_8$

We classify all non-invertible Kramers-Wannier duality defects in the $E_8$ lattice Vertex Operator Algebra (i.e. the chiral $(E_8)_1$ WZW model) coming from $\mathbb{Z}_m$ symmetries. We illustrate how these defects are systematically obtainable as $\mathbb{Z}_2$ twists of invariant sub-VOAs, compute defect partition functions for small $m$, and verify our results against other techniques. Throughout, we focus on taking a physical perspective and highlight the important moving pieces involved in the calculations. Kac's theorem for finite automorphisms of Lie algebras and contemporary results on holomorphic VOAs play a role. We also provide a perspective from the point of view of (2+1)d Topological Field Theory and provide a rigorous proof that all corresponding Tambara-Yamagami actions on holomorphic VOAs can be obtained in this manner. We include a list of directions for future studies.

Orbifold groupoids

We review the properties of orbifold operations on two-dimensional quantum field theories, either bosonic or fermionic, and describe the "Orbifold groupoids" which control the composition of orbifold operations. Three-dimensional TQFT's of Dijkgraaf-Witten type will play an important role in the analysis. We briefly discuss the extension to generalized symmetries and applications to constrain RG flows.

Two More Fermionic Minimal Models

In this short note, we comment on the existence of two more fermionic unitary minimal models not included in recent work by Hsieh, Nakayama, and Tachikawa. These theories are obtained by fermionizing the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry of the m=11 and m=12 exceptional unitary minimal models. Furthermore, these should be the only missing cases.

D-functions and immanants of unitary matrices and submatrices

Motivated by recent results in multiphoton interferometry, we expand a result of Kostant on immanants of an arbitrary $m\times m$ unitary matrix $T\in$ su$(m)$ to the submatrices of $T$. Specifically, we show that immanants of principal submatrices of a unitary matrix $T$ are a sum $\sum_{t} D^{(\lambda)}_{tt}(\Omega)$ of the diagonal $D$-functions of group element $\Omega$, with $t$ determined {by} the choice of submatrix, and the irrep $(\lambda)$ determined by the immanant under consideration. We also provide evidence that this result extends to some submatrices that are not principal diagonal, and we discuss how this result can be extended to cases where $T$ carries an su$(m)$ representation that is different from the defining representation.
