Vertical and horizontal Square Functions on a Class of Non-Doubling Manifolds

We consider a class of non-doubling manifolds $\mathcal{M}$ that are the connected sum of a finite number of $N$-dimensional manifolds of the form $\mathbb{R}^{n_{i}} \times \mathcal{M}_{i}$. Following on from the work of Hassell and the second author \cite{hs2019}, a particular decomposition of the resolvent operators $(Δ+ k^{2})^{-M}$, for $M \in \mathbb{N}^{*}$, will be used to demonstrate that the vertical square function operator $$ Sf(x) := \left( \int^{\infty}_{0} \left|t \nabla (I + t^{2} Δ)^{-M}f(x)\right|{2} \frac{dt}{t}\right)^{\frac{1}{2}} $$ is bounded on $L^{p}(\mathcal{M})$ for $1 < p < n_{min} = \min_{i} n_{i}$ and weak-type $(1,1)$. In addition, it will be proved that the reverse inequality $\left\Vert f \right\Vert_{p} \lesssim \left\Vert S f\right\Vert_{p}$ holds for $p \in (n_{min}',n_{min})$ and that $S$ is unbounded for $p \geq n_{min}$ provided $2 M < n_{min}$. Similarly, for $M > 1$, this method of proof will also be used to ascertain that the horizontal square function operator $$ sf(x) := \left(\int^{\infty}_{0} \left|t^{2}Δ(I + t^{2} Δ)^{-M}f(x)\right|^{2} \, \frac{dt}{t}\right)^{\frac{1}{2}} $$ is bounded on $L^{p}(\mathcal{M})$ for all $1 < p < \infty$ and weak-type $(1,1)$. Hence, for $p \geq n_{min}$, the vertical and horizontal square function operators are not equivalent and their corresponding Hardy spaces $H^p$ do not coincide.

Unboundedness of potential dependent Riesz transforms for totally irregular measures

We prove that, for totally irregular measures $μ$ on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with $d\geq3$, the $(d-1)$-dimensional Riesz transform $$ T_{A,μ}^{V}f(x) = \int_{\mathbb{R}^d} \nabla_{1}\mathcal{E}_{A}^{V}(x,y) f(y) \, d μ(y) $$ adapted to the Schrödinger operator $L_{A}^{V} = -\mathrm{div} A \nabla + V$ with fundamental solution $\mathcal{E}_{A}^{V}$ is not bounded on $L^{2}(μ)$. This generalises recent results obtained by Conde-Alonso, Mourgoglou and Tolsa for free-space elliptic operators with Hölder continuous coefficients $A$ since it allows for the presence of potentials $V$ in the reverse Hölder class $RH_{d}$. We achieve this by obtaining new exponential decay estimates for the kernel $\nabla_{1} \mathcal{E}_{A}^{V}$ as well as Hölder regularity estimates at local scales determined by the potential's critical radius function.

Quadratic sparse domination and Weighted Estimates for non-integral Square Functions

We prove a quadratic sparse domination result for general non-integral square functions $S$. That is, we prove an estimate of the form \begin{equation*} \int_{M} (S f)^{2} g \, \mathrm{d}μ\le c \sum_{P \in \mathcal{S}} \left(\frac{1}{\lvert 5P \rvert}\int_{5 P} \lvert f\rvert^{p_{0}} \, \mathrm{d}μ\right)^{2/p_{0}} \left(\frac{1}{\lvert 5P \rvert} \int_{5 P} \lvert g\rvert^{q_{0}^*}\,\mathrm{d}μ\right)^{1/q_{0}^*} \lvert P\rvert, \end{equation*} where $q_{0}^{*}$ is the Hölder conjugate of $q_{0}/2$, $M$ is the underlying doubling space and $\mathcal{S}$ is a sparse collection of cubes on $M$. Our result will cover both square functions associated with divergence form elliptic operators and those associated with the Laplace-Beltrami operator. This sparse domination allows us to derive optimal norm estimates in the weighted space $L^{p}(w)$.

The Kato Square Root Problem for Divergence Form Operators with Potential

The Kato square root problem for divergence form elliptic operators with potential $V : \mathbb{R}^{n} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ is the equivalence statement $\left\Vert (L + V)^{\frac{1}{2}} u\right\Vert_{2} \simeq \left\Vert \nabla u \right\Vert_{2} + \left\Vert V^{\frac{1}{2}} u \right\Vert_{2}$, where $L + V := - \mathrm{div} A \nabla + V$ and the perturbation $A$ is an $L^{\infty}$ complex matrix-valued function satisfying an accretivity condition. This relation is proved for any potential with range contained in some positive sector and satisfying $\left\Vert |V|^{\fracα{2}} u\right\Vert_{2} + \left\Vert (-Δ)^{\fracα{2}} \right\Vert_{2} \lesssim \left\Vert ( |V| - Δ)^{\fracα{2}}u \right\Vert_{2}$ for all $u \in D(|V| -Δ)$ and some $α\in (1,2]$. The class of potentials that will satisfy such a condition is known to contain the reverse Hölder class $RH_{2}$ and $L^{\frac{n}{2}}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ in dimension $n > 4$. To prove the Kato estimate with potential, a non-homogeneous version of the framework introduced by A. Axelsson, S. Keith and A. McIntosh for proving quadratic estimates is developed. In addition to applying this non-homogeneous framework to the scalar Kato problem with zero-order potential, it will also be applied to the Kato problem for systems of equations with zero-order potential.

Weights of Exponential Growth and Decay for Schrödinger-type operators

Fix $d \geq 3$ and $1 < p < \infty$. Let $V : \mathbb{R}^{d} \rightarrow [0,\infty)$ belong to the reverse Hölder class $RH_{d/2}$ and consider the Schrödinger operator $L_{V} := - Δ+ V$. In this article, we introduce classes of weights $w$ for which the Riesz transforms $\nabla L_{V}^{-1/2}$, their adjoints $L_{V}^{-1/2} \nabla$ and the heat maximal operator $\sup_{t > 0} e^{- t L_{V}} |f|$ are bounded on the weighted Lebesgue space $L^{p}(w)$. The boundedness of the $L_{V}$-Riesz potentials $L_{V}^{-α/2}$ from $L^{p}(w)$ to $L^ν(w^{ν/p})$ for $0 < α\leq 2$ and $\frac{1}ν = \frac{1}{p} - \fracα{d}$ will also be proved. These weight classes are strictly larger than a class previously introduced by B. Bongioanni, E. Harboure and O. Salinas that shares these properties and they contain weights of exponential growth and decay. The classes will also be considered in relation to different generalised forms of Schrödinger operator. In particular, the Schrödinger operator with measure potential $- Δ+ μ$, the uniformly elliptic operator with potential $- \mathrm{div} A \nabla + V$ and the magnetic Schrödinger operator $(\nabla - i a)^{2} + V$ will all be considered. It will be proved that, under suitable conditions, the standard operators corresponding to these second-order differential operators are bounded on $L^{p}(w)$ for weights $w$ in these classes.

A Hardy-Littlewood Maximal Operator Adapted to the Harmonic Oscillator

This paper constructs a Hardy-Littlewood type maximal operator adapted to the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L} := -Δ+ |x|^{2}$ acting on $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$. It achieves this through the use of the Gaussian grid $Δ^γ_{0}$, constructed by J. Maas, J. van Neerven and P. Portal with the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in mind. At the scale of this grid, this maximal operator will resemble the classical Hardy-Littlewood operator. At a larger scale, the cubes of the maximal function are decomposed into cubes from $Δ^γ_{0}$ and weighted appropriately. Through this maximal function, a new class of weights is defined, $A_{p}^{+}$, with the property that for any $w \in A_{p}^{+}$, the heat maximal operator associated with $\mathcal{L}$ is bounded from $L^{p}(w)$ to itself. This class contains any other known class that possesses this property. In particular, it is strictly larger than $A_{p}$.
