Quantum inversion of the vacuum hierarchy and multi-kink unbinding in the non-degenerate double sine-Gordon model
We study the quantum corrections to the vacuum energies and to the binding of the multi-kinks of the non-degenerate double sine-Gordon model. With normal ordering defined at the meson mass of the primary vacuum, the one-loop calculation predicts an inversion of the classical vacuum hierarchy, in which quantum fluctuations favour the central secondary vacuum above a coupling set by the classical splitting of the vacua and their meson mass ratio. Matrix-product-state calculations for $n=4$ confirm the inversion, and extrapolation of the bulk energy densities in the lattice spacing supports its persistence in the continuum. The crossing lies below the one-loop prediction, by $22$ percent at $α=0.3$, and is reproduced closely by the Gaussian effective potential. Finite-chain calculations at $α=0.3$ show that the central region of the multi-kink of topological charge $Q=4$ expands as the difference of the vacuum energies falls, as a collective-coordinate description predicts, and that beyond the crossing it grows with the size of the system. The composite therefore approaches the loss of its binding with a correction to its total mass still under a tenth of the classical value.
